The recent experiences I've had at Funkadelic (solo drumming sessions) have all been very positive…read more The equipment has been well maintained and the rooms, comfortable. The staff have been consistently friendly and helpful. Additionally, the studio hosts many jams and other events which demonstrate a true (and sadly rare) dedication to supporting local musicians. I get a great vibe from Funkadelic, and am very glad they are still around, when so many other rehearsal studios have disappeared.

Funkadelic Studios also dba MJ Studios Inc. which resides on the third floor of an office building…read more Funkadelic Studios houses a total of thirteen (13) active rooms well equipped with sound, lighting as there is also a recording music studio on the premises. Admission for $5.00 with patrons' hand stamped allows patrons to hop six rooms (only six rooms were reserved for this event) in the course of the night. One room for a chill out lounge room; one room for percussion and wind instruments; one room for spoken word poetry open-mic reading; and another for vocals. Room size vary in all thirteen rooms which gives a quaint audience for musicians/artists to be acquainted and comfortable of performing in front a live audience overcoming stage freight. Funkadelic Studios felt like a bar where located all on the same street of a live performance hop from room to room without ever leaving the building. For emerging musician artists and or established musicians Funkadelic Studios is a perfect venue for practice or debuting one's talent. A fellow prolific poet invited me for the spoken word poetry event which to my utter dismay the event did not begin until 9pm. There are soda machines and musical tool machines serving as emergency backup should musicians instruments brake a chord or lost a guitar pick. The rooms are insulated for soundproof as required by law and are equipped with functional A/C ventilation. I rate Funkadelic Studios for lack of food. I would not recommend Funkadelic Studios for youngsters under age 21 as the hours of operation for events, volume of noise, explicit language used are not kid-friendly.

Way over priced for quality!…read more Had a friend bring in some tracks we did together for mixing. When I heard the mixes, couldn't believe how much they charged for what we got back. Don't want to talk too much specifically about the project, but let me just say for the money that we spent we could have gotten something better ourselves in garage band. These guys are hacks.

There's a nice waiting area by the front desk and the bathrooms are clean and comfortable. The midtown location is a great central meeting spot, especially when you have cast members flung across all boroughs. Pricing is extremely reasonable compared to similar studios in the area. Also, there was another rehearsal going on next door to ours, and we couldn't hear each other at all. Sunlight feels very safe in terms of Covid-19 guidelines: right now everyone is required to wear a mask in public spaces, and they check vaccine verification at the front desk. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a space to hold a rehearsal or class.
