It was my first time coming in to a recording studio and I was really nervous. We were recording a short music video (both audio and video) for our wedding. I am no musician but my fiancé is; she had been and brought her student to many different recording studio, and she said this is the one that she recommend the most. In order to have a satisfying recording, spending enough time on both recording and editing is very important. We worked with James and the engineer was Jerry. I can't thank them enough for being so patient and giving me all the confident I needed. Schedule-wise, they are so accommodating. I recently took my middle-school students (www.pono.nyc) to Threshold Recording Studios to record a song they had written. The sound engineer, Derek, gave them a tour of the studio and did a fantastic job of explaining the recording process and guiding them through their session. He answered all of their questions and helped them feel confident. It was exciting for the students to feel like professional recording artists, and their recording sounds great! They knew our goal and constraints, and worked with all of them, in a relaxed fashion. Intimate studio too. The recording was exactly what we wanted. The first thing you notice is how comfortable the space is, and then how cool and well-maintained the equipment is. These are clearly pros. I went in for a two hour session and got three great sounding acoustic tunes out of it (great sounding on their end anyway, I can't vouch for my performance), because of how efficient and accommodating they were. Really can't recommend these guys highly enough. They were bright and excited to work from the moment I stepped through the vault doors. Great place for all genres and all levels of performers. I am very impressed with Threshold's professionalism. Any studio can buy fancy equipment, but it's only as good as the engineers that run that equipment. I feel very lucky to have worked with two wonderful engineers, Jeremy and Alan. They work hard to ensure the client is getting what he wants, and what's more, they are able to work with singers and musicians and communicate to them what they need to do to get the proper sound. I usually know if something is wrong, but knowing WHY it's wrong and knowing how to correct the problem is an invaluable skill that the engineers at Threshold possess. They are able to take tracks that at times I think are unsalvageable, and they actually can make them work. I am very thankful to them for their professionalism. We had a superb experience here. My husband turned 50 and as a surprise we recorded on of his favourite songs with some 20 friends and family. Threshold made us feel very welcome and were very tolerant of our lack to 'talent'. In the end we did sound like Superstars. I usually don't post reviews but thought it might be helpful to do so for parents who have musically talented kids who want to record their own music. After extensive research on the internet looking for a recording studio that would work with a twelve year old who wrote an original song and has never been in a recording studio, I found the website of Threshold Recording Studios NYC. After looking over their website, I saw this statement "Threshold excels in crafting original, radio ready songs & broadcast media with organizations, aspiring musicians & established artists of ALL AGES and genres." I immediately called Threshold and got in touch with James Walsh, the owner and executive producer. I told James that I was interested in having my son, record a song he wrote and have it videotaped in a studio. He asked me how old David was and I said twelve. I thought James would tell me that he was too young to use their studio but on the contrary, James was excited about working with David. He said he works with kids all the time and would record and videotape David performing the song plus give David the opportunity to experience how a song is mixed, mastered and produced. We spent nearly 5 hours at the studio, which was immaculate, comfortable, well equipped and had a relaxed vibe to it. James and Mike, the engineer, had infinite patience, provided suggestions and guidance and had David working the controls. Recording at Threshold Studios was pure pleasure. The studio is well-appointment and comfortable, and the rates are highly competitive. Mike is a skilled recording engineer who brought an easygoing, encouraging manner to our project. He makes it clear from the start that he can provide as much or as little artistic input as you wish -- and then he honors your preference. (You would do well to listen to his ideas; he's very musical himself.) Mike is good with time management as well, keeping everything on schedule and helping you prioritize as you go.
