REALLY TERRIBLE experience. I was looking for a large studio for recital and checked out the availability with the front desk. Front desk was nice and he said we can only book the room with the 'manger'. Well then I wrote the polite email to ask for the reservation. Someone responded so rudely and rejected my request without providing any further suggestion or help - the reason 'rooms of that size are only used for large scale, all day, auditions and lockouts'. 'room of that size can only be booked out two weeks in advance' which totally not mentioned in their website, brochures or even told by they staffs. The WORST and RIDICULOUS customer service that I've ever had.

Butch, is this one of your staff?

Removing one more star because I got the following message. I suspected it was a staff from RG, maybe Winston himself. Odd thing is, this person sent me this message 2 months AFTER he/she voted my post as "funny." Wonder who the loser is to let me live inside his/her head for so long and sent me a message at 2AM EST. This person also seems to take issue with my name but he/she is cowardly enough to use the very authentic "Dt N" After I complained to Yelp about his/her message, Dt N deleted the message and unvoted the review. But he/she should know there is such thing as a screenshot, like the photo here.

Ripley Grier is a great rehearsal and audition space. Aside from the irritating way of waiting in line to show ID while getting your picture taken, this place is a breeze from the moment you get off on the 16th Floor. Your first experience here may be shocking. Meredith M. puts it perfectly. It's exactly like the condo of an "artsy", old, Floridian cat lady. I kind of love it. As their website puts it (and I love this...): "Harmonious environments created using Feng Shui principles." Enough said. The studios range in size from small to large and every size in between. There is ample space to wait for auditions (even if the company you're auditioning for is cheep and by-passed the renting of a holding room). It does get confusing when you are trying to find some studios, but take a little time, look at the LCD TV when you get off the elevator, follow the signs and you are there! I love the Cafe they have. No other audition/rehearsal studio can boast this addition. Great staff...some of the best that I've encountered at studio spaces.

I love all the locations of RGS! I always feel welcomed when auditioning, and always rent warm up rooms here.

Front desk staff at 520 is mean and awful. Wish there were other affordable options in the area.

Beautiful studio! My daughter attended a Broadway intensive and we loved the facility. Can't wait to come back!

Despite claims the staff made about technicians routinely servicing their pianos, this instrument was not in tune and had not been reguated so the action had what piano technicians call "lost motion," which means there is space between the end of keys and the moving parts of the action. This creates a sloppy feeling in the keys, and thus a sub-standard playing experience. Lost motion is easily corrected and this lasts for a long time so either the cause is poor technician skill or the Michiko does not pay enough to maintain this instrument. Sound from other nearby rehearsal studios was a distraction.

The collective had arranged for one of the larger rooms so they could have some audience members, the full company and be able to stream it online as it happened. Spatially speaking they had a reasonable stage that held everyone involved. A full four piece band, some singers and some traditional Japanese instrument players and a grand piano. To the other side of the room was the soundboard and a setup of chairs. They had about 20 or so chairs to sit in and the audience would be a mix of invited friends, the media and the other members of the collective. Overall a nice group. The sound in this room was wonderful and you heard everything nice and clear and it was quite enjoyable. The space itself was clean and had a number of bathrooms and a WiFi signal to login to. I asked the friendly staffer what else the venue had and they said there were numerous smaller rooms like phone booths almost that people use to practice singing only or their voiceover and podcast work. Good idea. While I don't know if I will ever be there again I enjoyed my time here and thing the talented people who are reading this Yelp should look into the place in case it serves their needs.

Funkadelic Studios - Open mic night

The staff have been consistently friendly and helpful. Additionally, the studio hosts many jams and other events which demonstrate a true (and sadly rare) dedication to supporting local musicians. I get a great vibe from Funkadelic, and am very glad they are still around, when so many other rehearsal studios have disappeared.

Funkadelic Studios also dba MJ Studios Inc. which resides on the third floor of an office building…read more Funkadelic Studios houses a total of thirteen (13) active rooms well equipped with sound, lighting as there is also a recording music studio on the premises. Admission for $5.00 with patrons' hand stamped allows patrons to hop six rooms (only six rooms were reserved for this event) in the course of the night. One room for a chill out lounge room; one room for percussion and wind instruments; one room for spoken word poetry open-mic reading; and another for vocals. Room size vary in all thirteen rooms which gives a quaint audience for musicians/artists to be acquainted and comfortable of performing in front a live audience overcoming stage freight. Funkadelic Studios felt like a bar where located all on the same street of a live performance hop from room to room without ever leaving the building. For emerging musician artists and or established musicians Funkadelic Studios is a perfect venue for practice or debuting one's talent. A fellow prolific poet invited me for the spoken word poetry event which to my utter dismay the event did not begin until 9pm. There are soda machines and musical tool machines serving as emergency backup should musicians instruments brake a chord or lost a guitar pick. The rooms are insulated for soundproof as required by law and are equipped with functional A/C ventilation. I rate Funkadelic Studios for lack of food. I would not recommend Funkadelic Studios for youngsters under age 21 as the hours of operation for events, volume of noise, explicit language used are not kid-friendly.
