It's not every day I am in front of a camera, and those flashbacks of the Olan Mills elementary school pictures still haunt me. Before the shoot, Christopher talked to me to understand my creative endeavors and how I planned to use the photo, which was critical to capturing the emotion I wanted to convey. We then reviewed shots, making adjustments along the way. Within two hours, we were able to talk about objectives, do the photo shoot, retouch the final image and then Christopher sent me a link to my photo. Easy breezy! I highly recommend Kaleidoscope Pictures for your next head shot, portrait or whatever you'd like to capture. ~Kym

Representing a small business with a limited budget, my efforts of finding the right fit for my client was challenging. Kaleidoscope Pictures delivered. My client and I were thrilled with not only the high quality videos but the entire process. Christopher and his team were helpful, flexible, responsive in all communications and a joy to work with. I would definitely work with them again and would not hesitate to recommend them.

So far, so great... 6 stars!…read more I switched to AbelCine recently after experiencing some unusually rude salespeople at B&H this year (not in the camera department, mind you, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth). This caused me to seek out alternatives, and after taking an excellent course at AbelCine, it really sealed the deal. As knowledgable as some of the camera people are at B&H, these folks are actually far more knowledgeable. They have *working* knowledge of the latest of everything in pro video. It's like a dream come true. These people are SMART, and stay up to date. If you dig a little, you quickly find out that these are the folks who help set up many professional TV programs and movies with their gear. (And the consulting to put it together right, and use it properly for the best results) For instance, they put together the Sony FS700 package and dressed it up with the right rigging, lens and sound for Anthony Bourdain's new CNN show "Parts Unknown". This was brilliant, and took the new show to a whole new level! Ever notice the new sharpness of the show, and the cool slowmo? Well, thank AbelCine for that! Same thing with you... What they can do for an already incredible show like Anthony Bourdains, they can do for you. They're really nice folks, and don't seem to talk down to people who aren't as well versed. They're like the video equivalent of what Coffey Sound used to be in Hollywood for audio. I have literally been searching for a place like this for years and years now. B&H was close (and was fun to shop before they became too aggressive this year), but this is the real deal if you need someone to help you get pro TV and cinema level results. I think they're under-reviewed because people view as a trade secret or something... And folks keep this secret selfishly to themselves. But seriously, try 'em -- maybe take a course or something like I first did. They're so damn smart, they can take you and your productions to a whole new level, too! (And yes, they do things mere mortals can afford, as well... But do keep in mind, this is really the shop you want to go to when you want to make money from your video work) PS -- They also offer one of the better selections of rental cameras and lenses I've seen. Even uber expensive stuff, like Alexas and Phantom cameras. Even real film cameras! You can also rent things you could never normally afford to spice up a production, or you could rent something cheaper that you're considering buying (like an afford Canon or what have you). It really is good to rent gear before you buy it. They have so many camera body and lens options here to try, you'll be in awe!

Though there were a couple of staff people onsite, the best way to view this is like a rehearsal space for the bands where you have the control of the space you are renting. The layout of where we were was nicely setup. There were a number of small cubicles where I was told sometimes people rent to use as a remote office but since this was a television production, we just needed the large room and the couple of smaller ones for staff, talent and crew. It was very clean and the staff I met very helpful and friendly. As the Covid officer my task was monitoring how everyone was behaving in these pandemic times. Are you wearing a mask, do you have a temperature, do you have proof of vaccination etc. While it sounds tedious this is work that is aimed at keeping you safe and sound. The studio seemed to provide numerous folding chairs and some tables and there is an open WiFi signal for those doing work there which made it easier to keep in touch with the managers. As someone who doesn't need to rent such a space for a production I cannot speak to pricing but there were about 30 in total and everyone had room. There are a number of bathrooms and one larger one that even has a shower if you are one who ends up pulling an all-nighter. They even have a fully functional kitchen but the supplies are all on the person renting the space. I think this is a proper location for Broadway and film rehearsals or podcasting or setting up a smaller video production. I hope to work there again. Nice going Gum Studios. Thanks for the branded swag as well (hand sanitizer, pen and pencil, charger and some buttons). I'm a fan,

In photographs I typically have either RBF or a double chin because I'm usually laughing. I also cringe at the standard posed wedding photography and knew right off the bat that it would be a mission to find a wedding photographer that would be up for the challenge. So if you're like me, you may dread the thought of choosing a wedding photographer. It was by chance that I came across CMP's photographs while browsing on Pinterest. They immediately caught my eye; they were editorial, intimate and full of personality. Bottom line - stunning. Fortunately CMP had one photographer available for our date -- Danny. We lucked out because he is not only extremely talented in his craft, but also a total gem of a person. The photographs from our engagement shoot (WHICH COMES WITH YOUR PACKAGE AND IS AN AMAZING BENEFIT OF CMP'S SERVICES) made it immediately clear that Danny has a superb eye and was able to capture our personality as a couple. I've been non-stop spamming friends and family with our wedding photographs since we've received them; and which Danny delivered in record time. I'm in complete awe of how Danny was able to capture the vibe of our wedding in such a natural way. It goes without saying that wedding photographs aren't just for the couple, but also for the friends and family. So I want to share some verbatim messages I received from our attendees (who include people who work in the fashion industry, my highly critical family and people who have gone to at least 8 weddings last year) which really underscore Danny's stellar photography skills: "HOLY $H!T YOUR WEDDING PHOTOS!! I'm obsessed with all of them!" "The photos really capture you guys" "I'm done. Unwell this aesthetic. who is this photographer?!" "Your photographer was on it! They did a really great job!" "This photographer is magic brah" Last but not least, I want to recognize qualities of CMP that while searching for a wedding photographer I had not recognized were absolutely essential until I saw them in action: (1) a commitment to easy scheduling for discussing your needs and dates and for the engagement shoot; (2) clear instructions and constant communication on when the photographs will be delivered, guides for the photo shoots and how to view your photos; (3) a photographer with great personality that puts everyone at ease; and (4) flexibility and ability to provide for their customer's needs and implement their customer's vision. All in all, due to Danny -- our knight in shining corduroy -- we will live happily ever after.

Their ability to capture authenticity, beauty, meaning-- and even the sublime-- went way above and beyond any of our expectations. I was absolutely captivated by their portfolio-- the narrative, colors, composition, perspective. We were having a very small casual wedding, so I honestly wondered, would it still make sense to invest ourselves in photos? I am so glad that we did. I searched high and low online, but I kept coming back to their portfolio --beautiful yet edgy, current, and distinctive. After meeting with Mike at his Bushwick studio, we decided to go for it. I keep thinking of the word Zeitgeist (if that happens to mean something to you)-- the idea that art and culture are intertwined, that individuals and their works are products of their time and culture-- this is what you have with Mike & Chellise-- the ability not only to create beautiful amazing portraits and memories of important moments but also to be part of the artistic and inspired zeitgeist of Brooklyn/NY now. It's like you have the chance to be doing your band photoshoot, except that it happens to be your engagement photoshoot. My partner and I both didn't want traditional engagement photos-- we both love modern and contemporary art, cinema, and the eclectic visionaries who bring their own individual perspective to their work (Cindy Sherman, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Vito Acconci, Ryan Trecartin, Laurel Nakadate, to name a few). In particular, we enjoy the rich saturated hues and style of 1960s Italian (a la Dario Argento) and French New Wave cinema, so we wanted to recreate those moments in our portraits. Mike and Chellise and Kelli made it happen. And our portrait session photoshoot was as fun, memorable, and as exciting as our wedding itself... and the photos are simply incredible. Not only that, but they bring genuine positive and relaxed energy, which is really important, especially for the wedding day. Mike and his team are friendly, professional, timely, and super-efficient and effective. You could not ask for better event/portrait/wedding photographers. True talented artists.

Literally had to bombard him or call him day after day. He was MIA for the important moments, and multiple people had to go looking for where he was all the time. Work was super amateur. I'm Indian and we have Indian dances and he recorded the brides ENTIRE DANCE FROM A BACK VIEW. We had multiple events that he recorded - 3 to be exact totaling probably 11-14 hours all together, but the raw footage he sent us is ONLY 5 hours. His work blatantly is horrible. He didn't even have guidance or ideas for good pictures. I was picking the scenery/ poses instead of the photographer/ owner of the company himself Corey! I have friends who have better pictures of me and themselves at my wedding than what Corey "professionally" took! If u paid a deposit, get it back. If you're stuck with him, don't pay him in full until you get your pictures/ video. You'll know what I mean! From my wedding of 3 different events over 12-14 hours... I have a total of 4 pictures of me and my husband that I like.

He went through everything I could expect to receive with his videographer package, promised me multiple times the services would be for the ENTIRE day with full reception included, and he also spoke to HIS experience with Greek weddings and made me believe he would be filming the wedding. When the day came, another random subcontractor showed up to film and disappeared 2.5 hours early from the reception without a word. Aside from the bridal party, we had 0 footage of anyone dancing at the reception because of this. He reimbursed me slightly, but I will still never have the footage which is upsetting. It is now 12 weeks after the wedding, and I still have not received my 30-90min ceremony film that I was promised, and Corey will hardly respond to my emails and calls, but when he did, he decided to blame the videographer he hired for this. The videographer then told me Corey never paid him at all for any of his work and wouldn't let him create the film for me, so I have no idea who is telling me the truth, or why I still haven't received everything I paid for, but the process has been so miserable. I do not recommend Faymus Media to anyone. They tell you one thing and do another, and have no regard for customer service or make any attempt to fix their wrongs or deliver on their promises. Then I checked out Build it Green across the street. They carry a lot of used appliances, doors, and building supplies that have been refurbished. If you're interested in building & renovating with reclaimed pieces, this is a good place to start. Next door is Gowanus Ballroom. Around the back is the Arts complex, and housed within is Farmigo, a small food tech startup. You don't know what food tech is? Neither did I until Meetup recommended this event. It's pretty cool, they host these monthly storytelling sessions. They're all about the local food movement. At the event I met some really interesting people, who were doing startups, non-profits, and social-good stuff, and lived in the neighborhood. They even had some really amazing snacks on hand, and some craft beer to top it off. Farmigo is what would happen if you took the Avon-lady party idea, and brought it to local farmer distribution. They have farmigo parties, people order from local farms in upstate new york, or the north east region. Then buyers pickup at these various drop points, some of them happen as a sort of community party that's a lot like a tupperware party from the 70's & 80's. Farmigo makes it all happen, by providing the online platform to connect everybody together. After the talk, I went to grab my bike. In another part of the arts complex, giant sculptures are being formed & burning man scale giant art is being forged. Wow, cool stuff. Can't wait to come back next week. If you drive, just a friendly advice - there's not a lot of parking spaces available. You would have to take a chance and park at the Lowe's parking lot or down a few blocks. Gowanus Loft is located in a somewhat dead neighborhood. While walking up to our space, it was quite confusing to get around, but luckily there were signs pointing to where our party was. The Gowanus Loft doesn't have much decor. It felt very much like a warehouse we were entering into or an old art gallery. The stairway was very narrow. The space we had was spacious and just enough room to walk around, mingle, and hang out. The food I think was provided by an outside caterer. It was delicious and amazing! In addition, we had an open bar. The restrooms are single stalls and reeked of cigarette scent. Yuck! To make matters worse, there was only ONE sink and that sink didn't seem to work very well either or not work at all. I wasn't 100% impressed with this space because it didn't seem holiday party-worthy. I'm not sure what the other guests thought of it, but we've done better the last two years because we used an event space at the Fairfield Inn in Gownaus, Brooklyn.
