Lily has been cutting my hair here almost since The Cut opened many years ago. She is the best!

I booked here based on the strong reviews, but unfortunately my experience didn't match the rating. I should have researched the location more beforehand, because the salon felt much more like a budget chain experience despite the premium pricing. When booking online, I selected "long hair" at the listed $65 price. Thankfully I confirmed the pricing upon arrival, because later during the appointment I was told my hair was "longer than long" and would actually cost $75. That felt frustrating and unclear. The haircut itself also didn't feel worth the price. The stylist didn't seem particularly confident, and overall the service lacked the attention and professionalism I would expect at this price point. I also wasn't greeted when I arrived, wasn't offered a place to put my belongings, and after my wash I was left walking back dripping wet without much assistance. The stylist who did my hair also came across as very cold and rude throughout the appointment, even though I tried to be friendly and kind. That said, there was another woman working there who seemed genuinely warm and welcoming to other customers, so maybe I was just unlucky with who I was paired with. At the end, my hair was straightened without really asking whether that was how I wanted it styled. When I asked about curling it instead, I was told the straightening counted as the one complimentary style. They eventually offered to curl it anyway, but only after I explained I hadn't wanted it straightened in the first place. Overall, this felt more comparable to a basic chain salon experience while charging significantly more. As someone with long women's hair, I personally wouldn't return or recommend it based on my experience. read more

I'm used to spending ridiculous amounts of money to get my almost black hair bleached, and then bright pink. This is my third time going to this amazing establishment and a surprise and delight every single time.. this time I got a haircut and bleach and pink. Normally this would cost me about $1200 at a high-end salon and I would have to wait months for an appointment.. these guys took me in the next day and probably gave me the best haircut bleach and dye I've ever had. I'm from New York City and lived in Los Angeles so I have extremely high standards. The guy who cut my hair, didn't speak any English but somehow I knew how to give me the best haircut of my life. They were fast faster and better than any place. I've been to in Manhattan or Los Angeles. The place may look a little old and you might not get champagne, but you do get treats and soda. They are fast and efficient and extraordinarily detailed. I'm actually sad that I just moved to North Carolina because it's gonna take me a long time before finding another place as good as this one. read more

I have been coming here since 2008. Best place by far. I saw Lily 2 days before easter. Got my normal haircut, beard trim and hair wash/blow dry. Never rushed. The staff here is super awesome and always friendly. Prices are always beyond fair. If you are not a regular I recommend you always calling first to make an appointment. I recently moved to the area and was on the hunt for a salon that could match my playful, slightly edgy vibe. I believe I paid $55 plus tip, which in my opinion is a great value for the level of care and precision I received. So...I used to come here when it first opened a long time ago. While visiting Seattle, I decided to come here because I needed a haircut and didn't know where else to go on short notice. I came in as a walk-in, which they were able to accommodate since it was a weekday in the middle of the day. I waited about 20 minutes while they took care of customers. I said I wanted a haircut, but then after looking at the menu, I thought that the package deal was a really good deal because it involved a shampoo and conditioner, scalp massage, and a mini facial. The lady who took care of my hair spoke to the other lady who seemed like the boss in Vietnamese, then proceeded to tell me that since my hair is long and that this package is for men only that it would cost me $75 for the same package. That sounds stupid. I ended up getting a haircut only. I don't really like vague or unclear pricing that comes across as bait and switch. My haircut was really nice, the lady understood what I wanted and gave me exactly that - although she tried to poach for her private salon since she didn't like working there. I had a fantastic experience here! Called a week ahead and scheduled an appointment. Went in, consulted with what I wanted and immediately was taken to get a hair wash and conditioning, free of charge for first time clients. It was really nice to have someone else wash my heavy head of hair. I had a gentlemen do my hair and I have to say he was very thorough! He put heat spray in my hair and had the blow dryer going through my hair. Then he cut and straighten my hair. I loved it with each cut. I could already feel my head of hair get light. I honestly felt like a million bucks when I walked out. I recently started looking for a new place to get a haircut. I ended up getting a perm which is not what I was interested in or intending on doing at first. I had thought about getting one in the past, but was afraid it would look too curly. My hair is naturally super straight but she was able to do a light perm. It turned out great!! I've been going to the cut for almost 5 years now and sadly I'll be moving out of Seattle so today was my last day of service with them. For 5 years I've never had a bad experience with them and they give the best color/cut every single time. They really care about the health of your hair and make sure that you're comfortable. I particularly had black box dye in my hair and previously dyed red underneath that and they were so helpful and honest about how light they can get me to keep the integrity of my hair. You don't need to ask for a specific stylist because all of them are sweet and amazing. You won't find another salon this affordable that also has great service. I stopped by the Cut twice within in a month, 1st visit was end of April for a cut, and 2nd visit was a couple weeks later for a color. Lily did both services for me and I couldn't have been happier! The haircut: I hadn't gotten a haircut since before COVID, so 1.5 years with no hair cut. Lily took off 4 inches or so and added layers. I was super happy with my cut when I left the salon! The color: I went back a couple weeks later for color. She suggested balayage and I wanted to cover my grays. She did both. I haven't had my hair professionally colored in over 10 years. So I was not used to sitting in the chair for a few hours. But when I left, I loved how the color turned out! I also got the cut and color separate because I wanted my hair color to look good for my wedding. I got married last weekend, and the color and cut looked great with my wedding hair do. This was absolutely horrific i went in for a haircut, told him what i wanted and he just started going at it with no proper parting, no getting it wet, no washing, instead he straightened it and kept cutting . This was the worst haircut i ever got i left before they could make it way to short and more uneven it was 2 different lengths in the same chunk of hair and i didn't ask for layers so i don't know what was happening. I just got my hair cut/color done here today and it was a great experience! All of the staff are friendly and professional. They are taking Covid-19 precautions very well. The salon was clean, sanitized, and everyone wore masks, so I felt safe throughout the whole process. The hair stylists are very detail-oriented; they clearly walk through the hair coloring process to make sure you get the desired results. I have dark thick hair that needed color correction, and I was going for an ashy/bronde balayage. They were able to get the color just right with a beautiful seamless blend. I also received the Olaplex treatment, which left my hair feeling healthy and shiny after the whole process, highly recommend! My layered haircut looks just as good with this color too which I'm very happy about! Inspo (left) was a picture shown to stylist, pic on right is what I left with. I picked this spot due to great reviews and will never go back. Wildly bummed because it is way shorter than I asked for, unevenly layered (if you can consider the choppy pieces layers), and the same price as higher end salons that do a better job. Also, hair wash was too intense and I was unable to provide input (ex, when asking stylist to not flat iron my hair without adequate amounts of protectant, I was told I was wrong and they continued using a different heat tool with no additional protectant). I'm not sure what went wrong here, and honestly I'm more sad than anything that I'm going to have to hide my hair in a bun/ponytail until it grows out enough to get it fixed elsewhere. read more

On an impulse I decided to try something new with my hair, I found The Cut on Instagram, saw their work & loved it. I called and I was able to get an appointment within the hour. I realize how lucky I got as they were pretty busy throughout the day. As soon as I entered I was greeted and waited about 10 minutes. Lily took really great care of me, she made sure I had snacks, water & overall was just super attentive and very kind to me. To start, I had previously dyed my hair deep red/brown. I adjusted my expectations as I know red can be difficult to lift & Lily told me that as well, but she did her best and I honestly love the results. If you have Asian hair this is the place to get it cut without paying an arm and leg. I have wavy, textured hair thats still pretty thin that not many places can get right. Both times I've loved my haircut. Granted I usually just ask for a trim with long layers and face framing layers so nothing too crazy but they do it well. Knocking down a star bc if you don't do a wash before a cut, they do straighten your hair and the last time they didn't use heat protectant :/ but overall they do a great job here with the actual haircut and prices are super reasonable. read more

Hate to keep docking stars, but this most recent time was the last straw. Received an undercut without asking for one. Never mentioned the word "blend," but the person who cut my hair treated my instructions (3 clippers and inches off the top) as a guy cut. Normally carefree about my hair, but this time I was very disappointed and too frustrated to go back. As a reminder there's a $2 difference if you use cash vs card and I'm still convinced prices differ per stylist so there's no consistency. This most recent time from a "shaggy" pixie to the unwanted undercut it was $27! Men's cuts don't even cost that much (there's a $5 difference if my memory is right even if paying via card) and I have as much (or rather as little of) hair as them. So im impulsively chopped off my hair one night and called The Cut the next day to see if they were able to get me in the same day for a cut, highlight, color - which I thought was impossible. They made it work, and the outcome was awesome. Monica dyed and highlighted my hair to perfection and did a great job of keeping my remaining length while adding in layers and shape! Went in for a haircut around 11am on a Thursday. Surprisingly busy! I had 3 people waiting in front of me and waiting around 30 minutes. There were 3 workers so it made sense. They have a lot of regulars! Angela cut my hair and really involved me in the process. I'm not typically picky with my haircuts but will point out when i really like it. I had V layers and really long hair-my hair was a hot mess (As seen in the photo). I wanted a U shape and asked for a couple of inches to be taken off. She talked me into cutting a few more inches as my hair was super damaged and I needed to cut more off to get the U shape. She really made sure I was okay with how much she cut and the style. I used to be a regular here for 10 years. Recently, I noticed the price increase and the bad quality of hair cuts. I always have the same thing done, the basic Bob cut. There used to be a young man that did an excellent job but now he is gone. The past 2 hair cuts were done by a woman who randomly starts cutting and does not pay attention to the different lengths I am left with. The shampoo is terrible. I can feel the residue of the shampoo and conditioner afterwards. After pay $50.00 before tip, I am never coming back. I noticed other reviewers experiencing the same thing. I went here on a friday afternoon and it seemed like it was a really popular place in Shoreline to get a haircut with a lot of foot traffic! The interior is very nice, clean, and even homie with homemade artwork on the walls! All the hair stylists were incredibly welcoming and friendly. It seems like a lot of the people getting their hair done were regulars and the stylists seemed to know them all very well! I have never got my hair dyed and was scared to because I was looking for a specific look. The stylist who helped me was named Lily. She did my hair perfectly and I left with the exact hair I wanted! She helped me figure out the dying technique I wanted and whether or not I wanted to bleach my hair. I'm used to going to full-service salons but prices keep creeping up. My $75 haircuts are basically trims that take about 10 minutes and 15 minutes to dry and style. At The Cut, I got all that for about $30. I also opted for color for a lot less $ than a fancy salon. I saw whomever was available. The stylist was a little rough with rinsing my hair, my hair color was a little darker than expected, he blow-dried and styled my hair in five minutes (surprisingly, it looked great) and he did not want feedback/did not have time for feedback (?) as he encouraged me toward the cash register while I was trying to look over my new hairdo. I sat in this salon for a couple of hours and here is what I noticed: employees appear to be Vietnamese and speak Vietnamese to each other in front of clients; clientele are mostly made up of middle aged and older people of various ethnicities getting a trim for an average time of about 15 minutes. Most people do not opt for shampoo (costs extra) but get their hair spritzed with water before a cut. There is a steady stream of walk-ins on a weekday so it's probably much busier on a Saturday; the phone rings constantly with people requesting a same-day service. It is best to bring a picture of the cut and color you want so they see exactly what you are looking for and eliminate any language barrier. They do push products at the end but it is easy to say no. read more

The place was great before the personnel changes they recently made. Now it's ok but not good for a cheap haircut. You spin the wheel and never know exactly how bad it's going to be. They will focus more on one side than the other because its their dominant hand . It's all uneven and there's patches that is completely missed . Let's wash your hair and cover it up with gel Be prepared for the confusion of how much the cut cost. So I decided it was time to schedule an appointment for a minor hair trim, and balayage. When I came in, Lily promptly greeted me, and sat me down. Lily did a fantastic job capturing what I wanted even though my hair was in such bad shape. Throughout the entire process, Lily frequently checked on me to sure I was comfortable. After many months of covid-cutting my hair at home, I happened across this place because there is a Filipino deli next door. The afternoon was warm, the sun was out, and the door to the salon was wide open. Since no customers were inside I made a quick decision to walk in and fix the mess I'd made of my hair with too many late night YouTube videos. Angela cut my hair according to the notes I gave her. I felt like I was in good hands because she used a mask and gloves while cutting. She was easy to chat with, and during the time I was in her chair the salon saw just two other clients. When I decided I wanted it a little shorter, she willingly obliged without a sideways glance or attitude. For the price I paid (around $35), the cut was fantastic. I can't ask for a better hair stylist than Lily. She's such a sweetheart, caring and thoughtful. She was so funny during my entire appointment. I usually hate sitting in a salon but Lily did a really nice job entertaining me and doing a Goodjob on my hair the entire visit. During covid, they are also taking really good precautions so don't worry about distancing. They will have you wait outside till they can have you come in so that you don't have to be in the waiting area at the same time as others. I will keep coming back here.
