I can't Thank Sher enough for introducing me to EMILY!!! Sher was fully booked and it had been a year since I had my gray colored as well as cut. Sher said she would ask her colleague and I have so much anxiety about my hair ~ I said great but will you be there and she said definitely. Sher told her about my hair issues and the color I wanted, I can't use permanent as it burns my hair. When I arrived at my appointment the next day I had no idea who the colleague was and then Emily with her incredible smile walked up to me and we immediately clicked!!! But I had no idea on the level in which we would ~ because it was without a doubt the most Amazing Hair Salon Experience I Have ever Had !!! I truly can't thank Shane enough for the amazing hairstylist's he has ~ and Sher is just so incredible to have suggested EMILY !!! Because the color is the most beautiful brown and the cut is absolutely incredible because she knew how to cut the breakage seamlessly and her energy is just so amazing that I can't even describe how she took my bride of Frankenstein hair and made it healthy looking and gave me a color that was stunning and they all work as a team and Sher completely made it happen!! It was a gift from someone I just started seeing and when I went over their house they didn't recognize me and felt that I looked 25 and I'm 58 lol - just so beautiful and a magical experience with Emily and I have never felt so comfortable and feel like myself again - best experience and like a spa day because Emily is magical This is the Best Salon in Los Angeles because Shane has a knack for catching and keeping incredibly talented hair stylists and I was so lucky to meet Sher there as she's amazing... And now I found my forever stylist in Emily and can't believe how lucky I feel!!! read more

This is hands down the best place I've been to in the whole of Western America -- and trust me, as a European (British) who grew up in London and lived in New York, I'm pretty particular when it comes to my hair. From the very first visit, I knew this place was different. Not only am I now genuinely close friends with Shane, the owner, and his wife, but also with the entire team -- who are some of the nicest, most welcoming people I've met since moving here. What really sets them apart, though, is the sheer talent across the board. I've had my hair cut and colored by so many different team members -- which says a lot, because guys tend to get pretty territorial about who cuts their hair. My wife also now goes here. I trust everyone completely. The consistency and quality are unmatched. And I have to give a special mention to Colin -- not only is he ridiculously talented, but he's one of the best humans you could meet. It's rare to find a place that combines skill, atmosphere, and genuine warmth with such a cool location and design setup. It's not just a haircut -- it's an experience, and one I look forward to every single time. read more

When I moved to LA I struggled to find a barber and a hairstyle. Being introduced to Shane was a life changing moment in 2013. I don't even have to ask for designs. I sit in the chair and I'm ready for my headshot. In the past decade my hair has become more famous than me. I owe a lot to Shane and Leslie for taking the stress of hairstyle out of my list of priorities. I trust them with my life. Which ironically is my hair. read more

Great haircut by Gerry . . . and great conversation! He cut and styled my hair exactly as I envisioned it. Highly recommend.

I ended up trying out The Cut By because my last salon was terrible at responding and scheduling. Blissfully, the folks here are so nice, respond quickly and even send a text follow up the day before your appointment (I know that last part may sound simple, but after over a decade of struggling with LA salons, it's truly a breath of fresh air). The shop itself is really clean and cute, and Jeff is a master at cutting my thick, naturally curly hair in a way that allows me to dry it curly or straight and still have it look amazing. I love this spot and I'm so happy that I found it. read more

Hands down the best cut and styling I have ever had. I was lucky enough to be referred to Shane & I have not turned back ever since. In addition to the superior quality of the work, the next best thing is the incredibly welcoming nature of everyone working there. I walk out the door feeling like a fresh and new man. Thank you TCB (The Cut By)!! read more

Shane runs the best shop in LA. The whole staff is on point. I bounce between Shane and Yvette. But there are no wrong answers. I always love getting a fresh cut and The Cut By is the gold standard. read more

Since I cant write two reviews here for two separate stylists I will leave one with two parts. Jasmine and Stef cut my hair. I came with them from another salon to this location. Let me say how incredible these two ladies are. Jasmine is a master of the fade/does braids and is an overall brilliant stylist. She is an amazing listener. Never rushes and really has amazing attention to detail. One of the finest hairstylists around and I will go wherever she does. Stef is equally as good. Stef's specialty is color. She has colored my hair and it has felt so healthy and silky even after four processes. Stef is hilarious and has become a great friend as well. I feel comfortable talking to her and her artistry/ attention to detail is incredible as well. This shop should feel so lucky to have both of them around. The talent is endless! So lucky to have found and to trust these brilliant artists with my hair :) Love these ladies! Do yourself a favor and book with them read more

Love Joan and Sher, they are absolutely the best at their craft. I'm so happy I found The Cut By. It has such a cool vibe. Sher is a true artist with highlights/color and does my hair perfectly. I love how I feel when I walk out of the salon - like a new person! read more

Best. Haircut. Ever. Shane is a master. I have thick, wavy, curly ish hair that has a mind of its own. Not easy to cut and he killed it. iI'm a client for life. read more

Got a great cut by Sherlyn. I like a more masculine cut and she understood my sensibility. I also appreciate that their cuts are priced by length, not gender. It's one of the first things I look for nowadays when deciding where to go. The atmosphere in The Cut By is super cool- maybe a little intimidatingly so? Not really a negative but I felt underdressed facing the baroque curtains, edgy modern art, velvet couches and a big vintage motorcycle in the middle of the store. There's definitely a hip (maybe hipster) vibe inside. That said, unlike many hip Hollywood salons, the prices are very reasonable. Again I appreciate that they price based on the length of the cut and the services you select. I saw they do shaves and barber services which are hard to find with covid. Will be referring my boyfriend to here as he's been itching for a close shave for months. No parking lot but there are meters all along the street in front of the shop. Will definitely return here for my next trim! read more

I generally dislike the salon culture, mostly stuffy and pretentious, so I try to avoid them. I was going to Stag Hair Parlor, but sadly the moved a little far from me. I found this gem after doing a little research and had a Cut By *wink* Liz. My hair is wavy/curly, and while not particularly difficult, I have had less than desirable outcomes. Liz knew exactly what I wanted and how to achieve the final result. So, thank you for being low key, awesome and talented. Got get your mane trimmed here. read more

Initially when I came to "The cut by" i got my hair done by Daniel. Apparently he was new there. He did a terrible job. My roots were dark, there was a harsh border between a hole inch of dark roots and newly blonde hair... Color was too yellow... hair was kind of burnt ... it looked like I did it myself at home two mo the ago... the owner of the business was nice enough to offer to fix it with the new stylist she recommended... So, I Went back to this salon to fix a poor bleach job and Sher, my new stylist, did an amazing job with Color ! I finally have a color I wanted ! Huge Thank you to Leslie, the owner, for helping me get better results! Update: Unfortunately now my hair is dry, brittle and is breaking off a lot... it will take me years to grow it out again... I might have to cut it short... () but at least I don't need to Color it for a couple of months... applying more bleach was definitely a mistake... I have very mixed feelings right now... there's nothing I can do to heal the damage now, and it breaks my heart... However, the Color looks great... definitely better than before... Only time will help me now... Still grateful to the ladies who cared enough to offer to try and fix it... I only wish we didn't bleach it more... live and learn.... Update ... it's now been a week after my second visit... the aftermath is devastating... my hair is ruined... the breakage from the last round of bleaching has left me with very little hair left and it's so dry and brittle, that I am pretty sure I will have to cut it off soon... the only section that is holding up is the one in the back of my head that I didn't let them touch... I feel bad leaving this review, cause i really liked some of the people that worked there, but the truth is - my hair is completely ruined now with no hope of repair. It will take me years to recover from this damage.... And the reason I went to that place is cause of all the great reviews.... I wish I didn't .... I have included the photos of what my hair looks like now. I would not encourage anyone going blonde at this place. Maybe other, less challenging services that are easier to correct and recover from, but definitely no bleaching. read more

SHER is the one!!!!. She's AMAZINGLY TALENTED. I had been wanting to cut my hair super short but was too scared I would get something I wouldn't like since I've always had my hair super long. I went with her and she gave me exactly what I wanted!!!!!! She pays great attention to details and listens very carefully to what you have in mind! I actually sent some of my close friends to her and they loved her so much that they only let her do their hair now. She's the best in LA, definitely recommend. read more

Great vibe. Sher cut my hair and this girl is an artist. She is also an expert with bleach and tones and I came in because I had gone to a previous person who did not do a good bleach job and there was an uneven line and she fixed it. The haircut looks so good I feel so lucky that I found this place :-)Also got a chance to meet the owner and super nice guy. I don't always get my hair cut, but when I do, it's by Shane. For 11 years and counting, Shane has been my go-to for great cuts and fun conversations. There is nobody I'd trust cutting my hair. read more

I called them cold, without a referral, and they scheduled me same day with Joey. Two hours later I was sitting in her chair and showing her pics of my previous best cuts. She got it instantly. We discussed details, and then Joey gave me one of the best haircuts of my life. It even included a hot towel at the end. I'm very pleased. The shop's decor is a comfortable cross between a classic salon and some of the earthy tones of an old-style barbershop. Though unlike a barbershop, the front door says "No Walk-Ins, Appointments Only". So schedule accordingly. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The Cut By (Joey, in my case) certainly cares about doing hair right. I'll book her again. read more

Restyling is something everyone needs now and again so you don't look like one of those old guys who appears like a teenager. You can't pull it off no matter how hard you try. This is a good place to change into your own, slightly older self under the care of someone who can help you find your new look and cut it that way a few times so you settle into it. They can probably do more than that, but that's what I used them for, and it worked. Result? I don't quite resemble my painting that I use here any more, but that's a good thing. The web- based appointment system is tricky, so try to call for follow up appointments. read more

Great service every time. Never left unhappy. Had a great cut by Sherlyn. She is amazing.

I had the same stylist for almost 10 years - so needless to say I was scared to try anywhere new out. However - I can't say enough amazing things about this place! No matter who you are (sex, style, finances, etc) - this place is for you. The style is cool and laid back. There is a stylist for any need - but Joan is hands down the BEST in town if you can get in with her. From the moment you walk in management makes you feel at home. No one is pushing extras down your throat when you checkout. You can schedule your appointments online. You feel like your visiting family and friends. Great vibe - amazing quality! This place use to be awesome with all the talented hair stylists they were really good and professional and made perfect haircuts and could give anyone any type of cut you wanted as long as you had the length. On top of that it felt like a cool hip/rock/classy place to be....now that all of the good hair stylists are gone rather it be from covid or not they have been replace by in terms of talent, the worst possible you could find. They don't understand what they're really doing or raise up to the level the company they use to work for had standards for. Now this place feels like you're at the circus of books store but they cut your hair and do a mediocre if not shit job and charge you over $70. Meanwhile Grey Matter does it perfectly. Highly recommend going to grey matter if you want what your asking for and you even better they're a lot better at cutting hair, oh ya they also charge $60 not over $70. Hope the old people come back and I can get my hair cut by some professionals, if not Grey Matter LA it is. read more

I think you have to review a haircut in two stages. First is the initial experience, and The Cut By and Wade get five stars in this department. Making appointments is quick and easy; Wade and Shane both use an on-line self-serve appointment engine that beats the heck out of making appointments over the phone. Their space is thoughtfully designed with a lot of great vintage pieces, but also very comfortable. And the appointment itself was great - Wade spent a full hour talking to me about my life and my hair (I was a first time customer), telling me things I hadn't known about my hair and how it grows, and then cutting it meticulously. After a steaming eucalyptus towel at the end, I left feeling good about the world. But you can't rate a haircut the moment you walk out the door, which is why I've waited more than three weeks to write this review. And this is the best part - for the first time in my life, my hair was cut with such expert attention to how it grows and how my head is shaped that it looks good pretty much all the time, week after week. Not just right after I've brushed it, but even if it's been wind-blown, rained on, or whatever. Wade is a master. read more

I've had my hair cut a few times from these guys, and although they do quality work, the price and attitude makes me not recommend it. Even though they have a good appointment system it might as well be all walk in's since they get priority anyways. I ended up just leaving after waiting 40 minutes this last time. For a hair cut that's $60 dollars (for men's hair no less) I would expect better. The cuts are decent, but not really anything worth that much, more like a $30 dollar cut. Overall it's more about price for quality, if you have money to burn, the straight razor shave is nice, but not necessary. read more
