I'd give it 10 stars if I could. The best meal I've eaten in Custer and it's not even close. Husband had the buffalo brisket and ate every bite. I had the walleye po'boy and it was AMAZING. Came in and was told that it was probably going to be a 15-30 min wait. Okay no problem. We asked if they needed our name for a wait list. We were told "no, we don't take reservations." We looked at one another and then asked the host, "so when someone leaves, is it just a mad dash to see who gets the table?" This was another of our let's pick them as we go places to eat. What a find! My mom and dad had the Waldorf chicken sandwich. My mom said it was excellent! My brother had the buffalo brisket and said it was delicious!! My husband had the jalepeno burger and thought the sauce was great. I had the pub sandwich and it was very tasty. We ate at Custer Wolf on Monday evening. We waited only a short time for a table, they had a great texting notification system when our table was ready. Tasha did a fabulous job of working with incoming customers. We had Hunter for a waiter and he was superb- his people skills and ability to have a conversation with customers in a genuine manner was great! Our food was delicious. Food is good. High ceilings inside and small patio outside. We sat outside and it was loud with motorcycles and traffic which takes away from the atmosphere somewhat. Impromptu drive thru Custer led us to The Custer Wolf. Reviews were great So we decided to stop. Thank goodness we did. Staff explained all the IPA/ales to us while we played a couple games of connect four. Beer was great, onion rings were even better! Yum!! When they brought the check, it came in an actual book of religious poems. Many people wrote their reviews in this book, what a great idea. Highly Recommend this place! read more

This place has the best hospitality of South Dakota! We came in hungry and in the off season, there isn't much open. Found this place on yelp and the reviews hold up! Beer, great! Food, excellent! My husband and I had the Wolf Burger and the Pasta with Pesto Sauce; absolutely amazing! The food was so flavorful, best meal we've had in South Dakota. And the staff as well as diners are very friendly, warm, and inviting. You leave feeling like they've put a piece of South Dakota in your heart! Great place! read more

Great place! We went there two times in our three day stay. We had a party of 8. They only have a couple options for a party that big so we lucked out in getting a table. Everyone was pleased with their food. We did the Reuben, salads, pasta, spicy green beans, chili, ranchers pie, onion rings. The buffalo sandwich was tasty but tough. What made the meals extra good was our server, Megan. She was friendly, happy, efficient and one of the best servers I have had. We haven't been to Custer in 4 years & The Custer Wolf was a new addition since then, so thought we'd try it out! Boy were we pleased! The servers were all so pleasant & helpful & when I saw this luscious sandwich delivered to the table next to us, I was told it was a Reuben & that it was yummy! So I ordered it from our very friendly server; asked for the sauerkraut on the side & the VERY spicy sauce on the side (all came exactly as I ordered it!). It came with one small pickle toothpicked on top & it was a great pickle, so I asked our server if I could possibly have another--he brought me a cup full of them! Also you get to pick a side & I chose salad with the Lime Cilantro dressing (wish I could have the recipe!) Hubby had the Rancher's Pie (like a Shepherd's Pie) and all of it was great! So, no need to go anywhere else in Custer. The food here was DELICIOUS. The craft beer selection may be small, but the variety was perfect. My hubby had the buffalo brisket and I had the walaye po boy. It's now dinner time, and we keep talking about how delicious the meal was. We've been traveling the black hills area for a week, and this is by far the best meal we've eaten. The service was great. So happy to find this gem in an area where you don't expect more than pub fare. Kudos to the chef for his spin on the food served. I only wish I had taken pictures for you to taste with your eyes. Excellent pub food, we enjoyed 4 very well prepared burgers, and the onion rings were PERFECTION. Steady stream of customers at 2:30 on a weekday afternoon, but food came quickly and was all excellent. I tried calling in a take out order for over 30 minutes and kept getting a busy signal. I decided to physically go to the restaurant and get a to go order. When I arrived it was still over 30 minutes until closing. I asked if there was an issue and L was told they had taken the phone off the hook because they were too busy. I asked to place a to go order and although they apologized, they said they were too busy to do a take out order. I'm assuming the food is great but the customer service was terrible. If you have food to serve and plenty of time, you don't turn away customers. read more

Just had dinner there with my husband. It was great. The service was awesome the food was delicious too. My only problem was they knew we were heading back to My. Rushmore for the evening lighting and had gotten dessert to go. We paid our bill and had received 1 dessert but waited forever for the other one.
