I went here with a party of five, my burger and fries were decent, pretty standard, the smashed potatoes and fried green beans were both good, two people from our party including the person that suggested the restaurant ordered the walleye po boy and they were both bread sandwiches, very little amount of very little peices of walleye, one of them ordered the soup of the day as a side, it was chili they asked the server if it was house made, I could tell just by looking at it that it was not house made or the house doesn't know how to make a decent chili, the wait was a bit long, probably won't be back read more

My husband and I ate here during our recent trip "out west". We decided on this restaurant because of the reviews that we read (that, and it it was just about the only restaurant open after two in the afternoon) and I'm glad we did. I loved the atmosphere. Both bathrooms were for either sex and there was a bookshelf full of board games, indicating to me that perhaps locals used the restaurant as a gathering spot. Since we had been snacking in the car while traveling we weren't overly hungry so we decided to split a meal. We got the rancher's pie and it was great. It was similar to Shepherd's pie and it was real good. The serving was quite ample and my husband and I did not walk away hungry. The service we received was awesome, but of course I have forgotten the young man's name. Sorry young man! We would definitely eat here again if we were ever to travel out that way in the future. read more

Ordered the fried green beans, pulled Buffalo sandwich, chicken tenders, and walleye po boy. Last two meals had the broccoli for a side. The po boy, fried green beans, and broccoli were pretty good. The chicken tenders were disappointing, they lacked seasoning. The Buffalo meat was also very dry. I'm sure some of their other meals listed here are great, they just weren't listed on the menu when we came. read more

Was welcomed to the Custer Wolf with receipt of a gift card in appreciation of for picking up litter in the town. What a sweet and thoughtful surprise. That was such a great way to say thank you for caring. The restaurant is conveniently located right on the corner of its Main Street. Nice atmosphere. Greeter and server did a great job with social distancing and still being very kind and attentive. For me the best was their option for vegetarians. I had the Falafel Burger with beans and rice. Delicious! It is clear that they strive to be earth friendly here. Plastic free menus and cutlery with an eco friendly take home box. Great work folks! Everything about eating here was great! The food was delicious...I had the fish and chips which was fresh and crispy. My husband had the special of the day which was a 14 oz Wagu steak and it was absolutely delicious! Our server was friendly, helpful and very hard-working. If you're concerned with Covid-19 restructions, all the employees wore masks and they were diligent with cleaning the tables and chairs in between customers. Usually in resort towns we plan on spending a lot for food that isn't very good. This restaurant is the opposite. We felt pleasantly surprised by the prices for truly excellent food! This has been our best vacation meal so far! We tried a variety of the dishes because there were 7 of us traveling. Every single meal was amazing. The chicken tenders my kids got were hand breaded, juicy, and flavorful. The jalapeño burger, BLT pasta, shredded brisket sandwich, po boy and wagu steak special were all divine. The salad dressings were all homemade and delicious. And the hand battered onion rings were absolutely not to be skipped! My husband even commented on the homemade coleslaw being wonderful - and he's not someone who generally appreciates coleslaw. 100% recommend if you are in the area! Best restaurant in the area we wished would have discovered it at the beginning of our trip not the last day. I started out with the sangria and when it is served you can see the layers & it was really good. The dinner salad was fresh and the homemade Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette dressing was amazing. Had the Vegetable Medley (vegetables sautéed with white wine) and chicken and my husband had the Shrimp Scampi pasta. Both of us were very happy with our entree. We shared a Bread Pudding for dessert and we both agreed it was the best Bread Pudding we have ever had. Our server Luke B. did a great job answering our menu questions and serving us. read more

Our server took the check and payment and yet a third brought back the card. I prefer only one person handle my credit card so that was weird. Most weird thing was getting a second, different beer- did not get a clean glass. They swished out the glass with the new beer. Not a good practice. Love the bathrooms - not gender specific, but still private. Tried the fish and chips. The fish was soggy but it actually tasted good, tartar sauce was good, the fry's were really lack luster as well. Black ale was good. Service was slow. They were busy so I was taking that into account but I was at the bar and nobody acknowledged my existence for at least 5 minutes (conservative as it really felt more like 10 but who uses a timer?). On our way through Custer, we were looking for a quick bite. What we found was incredible food and drinks and even better service!

I'm actually surprised by all of the good reviews. We came here because everything else was packed or closed due to Labor Day. We walked in, was told to sit wherever (which was fine). It went downhill after we put our order in. The waiter brought our food, and never came back. My husbands food was wrong - 20 minutes later we finally flagged a different waitress down and told her but we didn't want another burger. Everyone else was done eating and my husband was pretty livid. The waiter never came to refill our drinks - our 3 year old had to eat without anything to drink. It was ridiculous. Everyone else was being waited on hand and foot. I don't understand why we were basically thrown in the back and ignored. Unacceptable service. read more

Stopped at the Custer Wolf for dinner when our first choice had unexpectedly closed on a Wednesday, just because. Very friendly people. Megan was terrific! Had the kettle chip nachos. Excellent! Our granddaughter, who doesn't eat vegetables, even ate the tomatoes and onion. My wife had the Tomato Cremini Alfredo, and raved about it. I had the walleye poboy. Also delicious. Great little place with great food and great staff. My wife and I had to wait 45 min. because the place was full and COVID was still making it hard. But it was worth it. The chicken fingers were not like most places.....lots of juicy white meat and thin but tasty homemade buttermilk breading. We went to Custer State Park and went through the Wildlife Loop. What a blast. Since we were Hangry, we stopped in at the Custer Wolf & had some lunch. Real nice staff & very good food. I had the Buffalo brisket w/ mashed potatoes & mom had the wolleyed Po'Boy. Yummy!! They do stock at least 3 local beers on tap, Guinness, and other good beers, oh & an Ace Space cider. We stopped at this cute little place because everything else in Custer closed at 2pm! I am happy we stopped. My husband go the Pub Sandwich. This was a god sandwich and the kettle chips were nicely seasoned. My friend got the chicken tenders and onion rings. The portion was huge! I thought the tenders were a little greasy, but that is a personal preference. I got the Walleye Po'Boy and it was great! The fish was flavorful but did not taste 'fishy'. I really enjoyed the coleslaw on the sandwich. I also had the onion rings. They were fantastic! The onion was nice and sweet and the batter balanced it nicely. To top it off, they bring you the check in books, not the little check things that most restaurants use. One of the books had been filled with signatures and blurbs from people who had dined there. Had a good experience with the Custer Wolf and waiter Luke. When we were first seated indoors because of the 60 degree weather, things were good. Then the hostess, Rose, propped the outside door open and a wind tunnel came through blowing napkins off the table. I asked the waiter to have the door closed. He went to the hostess, Rose, to ask her to close it. She refused saying that it made things easier for her and the staff to go too and from from the outdoor seating. Good restaurant but Rose needs to pay attention to customers, not just what is easier for HER. read more
