A food truck in Bakersfield? Oh yes! We're moving up in the foodie world. Located on the corner of 16th Street and D Street in downtown Bako, this little food truck is a God-send for the employees of nearby Mercy Hospital and other businesses. We arrived to find half a dozen people already standing outside the truck, with a guy outside taking phone orders. He was quite busy taking those orders, so don't be surprised if you call in and can't get through; just plan on calling far enough ahead to avoid the lunch rush. In fact, calling ahead seems to be the ideal game plan. Not that the wait for long, but standing outside certainly makes it feel longer than it is. After seeing their drool-worthy Instagram photo of the Pambazo, I was sold. What is a pambazo? Well, think a torta but way messier. It's filled with potatoes and chorizo, and finished off with some of the typical torta toppings. Then (here's the kicker!) it's drenched in a red pepper sauce. Grab a handful of napkins with this sandwich; you're going to need them. In all, I was pleased with the quality and efficiency of The Curbside Kitchen; and just in time since NV Cafe closed their doors recently. I am so excited that we now have a food truck in town and a great one at that!! I wanted to try multiple items before writing a full review so of course that meant I had to make multiple trips! I do this for you, really. ;) I frequented them when they were located behind the hospital and tried a lot of things, aiming for something new every time. I had tacos, burgers, fries, breakfast burritos, and now, Arepas. Honestly, I have liked every single thing I've tried. They have great specials too, always for under ten dollars and with plenty of food and a drink too! I have had no complaints on the food or the service. The owner is super friendly and always chats it up, between taking orders. Friendly people working this place. I prefer giving my money to someone living their dream than to a corporate machine!! :) Their new location is still downtown but across from the Padre Hotel and I hope they stay because there is still so much more to try! Difficult for me to make it to downtown during this food truck's operating hours. Have only tried their food one time. I probably did not order one of the best items off their menu. That's what happens when I do not read Yelp reviews beforehand so I know what to order!! Cheeseburger is what I bought cause I was craving one at the time. It wasn't bad, but nothing special either. In N' Out is better. (3 stars) Garlic fries was my choice for the side. Now those were some yummy fries!! I have no problem recommending those flavorful fries! I have refrained from writing this review for a long time, because I really enjoyed their Horchata. I used to live very close to where they would set up, and I would come by just to get a horchata. I tried the food thrice, and all times I was very disappointed. They did have one item that I thought was ok, but there fryer broke for awhile, so I couldn't order it. I tried the tacos, the burritos, tostado and sope. I liked the sope, but every time I tried to go, their machines were down. The food probably deserves a 2 or maybe a 3, if I am being generous, but that would be on average, because once it was just not even edible. The real reason for the 1 star review is for the way the owner ran his business. He would always have a very young child, under 10 outside taking orders. The poor girl was trying very hard, but she didn't know the menu, didn't know how to answer questions, and also was overwhelmed due to the lunch rush. I understand a family business, but it's not fair to put that much pressure on the young child, or the customers that had to wait. One time the owner took my order and we started to talk about the horchata. I really loved it and told him I would be interested in buying a gallon, at a premium, once a week. He made it seem like it would be no problem for me to order the gallon, but every time I showed up to buy it from him, he made an excuse and acted like I was bothering him. Along with he horchata fiasco haha, These guys are the worst at being open or having a good set of hours. Many people would plan on these guys being open, so they would spend part of their lunch walking or driving to the location, just to find out that they decided not to open today. Every once in a while he would post online if they were not going to be open for lunch or dinner, and it just came to a point where many people were getting frustrated due to the lack of professionalism. I understand that he would get hired for private events, so he would have to leave, but he handled it very unprofessionally. I remember being on Facebook and seeing multiple people voicing displeasure of his last minute closure, or lack of alerting people. This along with the fact that his fryer was broken for months, with no real urgency to fix it. I just felt like he didn't care about his customers, and I certainly didn't feel valued as a customer. I explained my frustration many of times about the lack of reliability , and he could care less. So, no matter how good he horchata was, I stopped trying. read more

I've been dying to try this place. I was really looking forward to trying the breakfast burrito but I couldn't say no to the special of the day. Today's special was the Chilango curbside sandwich. I love the idea of it and it was executed perfectly. The service was fast and all of the staff was very friendly and helpful. The Chilango Curbside Sandwich: Queso tamale torta (I got the pork tamale), bacon, mayo, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, cilantro, and Curbside salsa. It comes with avocado & guacamole, but I requested it without. I love the way the bolillo was toasted. The tamale had such a great texture and flavor. It was perfect. My co-worker and I seem to go here at least once a week! I do not check in every single time I go, but I should! It is near my work so it is a convenient drive, but the food being really delicious is the primary reason of why we keep coming back. The food truck is located across the street from the Padre on the corner of H St. and 18th St. It is on the parking lot of an old mini mart that just recently shut down. If there is no parking on the little lot, there is a parking structure right next to it and there is no charge to park there. If you are in a hurry, you could call in your order and they will have it ready when you get there. I have tried the burgers, fries (regular, garlic, and chili cheese), tortas, tacos, sopes, and huaraches. They are all very good and the presentation is amazing. I eat with my eyes first before I devour my food. It takes a lot of strength for me to take a picture of it first to post and show you guys what my food looks like. Say what? Filipino fusion? I've heard of this food truck before (I kind of forgot where though) and it's an interesting mix of Filipino fusion with Vietnamese, Brazilian, etc. It's kind of on the edge of being two dollar signs for a food truck but it's worth trying. (Since it's a food truck, you kind of have to be creative about seating.) The Adobo Pulled Pork - Filipino and Vietnamese Fusion is a light burger since it has the veggies from the banh mi and the lightly marinated pulled pork. It's a light adobo taste so don't expect your momma's adobo in this burger. Out of everything, I recommend the Curbside Fries with the Filipino bacon aka Tocino aka one of the few loves in my life. Everything on it makes such a good combination. It's tocino, monetary jack cheese, onion, cilantro, and house aioli. I Had a great first time experience here at curbside kitchen. Today I got their daily special it was a grilled chicken flatbread with cheesy chipotle mashed potatoes topped with tortilla chips gravy and came with a side of fries and a drink. It was a great deal for $10. My boyfriend got the pastrami sandwich and it was absolutely delicious they have really great bread rolls and there pastrami is great quality and full of delicious flavor they top it with the traditional mustard and pickles and sides of yellow peppers. We got a chance to chat with the owner Chris about how he got into business. It is really nice to meet such a passionate business owner with such a love and great palette for food! I have been following these guys on instagram for a few months and finally got the chance to swing by for lunch. The special was arepas, but by the time we got there those were gone so I settled for a Carne asada sope and order of garlic fries. The sope had great flavor with salsa that had some heat. Can't wait to try the tacos next time. Sope's are $3. The Garlic fries were an additional $3 and could have easily been shared with by at least 2 people. They were very crisp and a little too salty for me and I would have liked a little more garlic on them. But, Oh how I do love a good french fry and my motto is "leave no fry behind" but I tried with all my might and left a few behind. read more

Food is good. Can be pricey but I like that they have a variety of food. Being on CSUB campus is very beneficial to us students.

Two of my co-workers invited me to lunch but since they know how much I Yelp they asked if there were any places I would like to try out. Since I've seen many Yelpers check out The Curbside Kitchen I figured lets check it out. When we first arrived there was no one else in line but after ordering the Mercy Hospital employees started filtering over. I take a glance at their menu and I automatically see the Jjuliette which is a double burger with pastrami. There are other places I've been to in Bakersfield and Delano and I absolutely love the Pastrami Burgers so I had to try theirs. I'm a fool for Chili Cheese Fries as well so I ordered those. Juliette Burger - 2.75 Stars to be exact. You hear double burger and expectations should be where the patties are a good size and juicy but this was neither to be honest. It tasted like they didn't season the patties and the patties reminded me of McDonalds. The pastrami was good but not great, the spices in it just did not burst in my mouth like I expect from pastrami. Besides those negatives, what could have probably brought this burger up was if they didn't use just a regular bun. Again, the bun reminded me of McDonalds, I would like to see if maybe they used another type or even toast the bun. Chili Cheese Fries - 3 Stars would suffice and it is the combination of the chili with the cheese and it was well balanced there but next time I will request for onions on top. The fries itself was good but I would have loved it if they were bigger sized fries like from Tommy's, but none the less I would order again. My co-workers ordered the San Diego Chicken Sandwich and regular fries and the special which I can't remember the name but I posted the picture. The San Diego sandwich was good by what he said, hopefully he writes a review of some sort since he has a Yelp account, I'm talking to you John C!!! The one who ordered the special absolutely loved his, it was a greek sandwich with falafels from what he explained with a nice spice mixture that presented some nice heat. The bread they used was toasted and was lathered with a garlic butter spread, he said 4 stars! Hopefully he writes a review as well, Brandon R! I've looked at other pictures for The Curbside Kitchen and next time I will be trying their tacos, so yes I will return soon. And people are raving about their breakfast burritos and would like to try that out too. Great value and excellent food! I've had the breakfast burrito. Just fabulous....a huge meal...for only $6 The burger and garlic fries are pretty good. The burger could use some seasoning to maybe amp it up a little but overall good. I have also had one of the street tacos. This is where they absolutely excel! I could have eaten 4 of those babies.....and at only $2.00 a piece......a very good deal! If you're in the neighborhood (behind Dignity Hospital Downtown)......or even if you need to travel a few minutes. This is the spot to head to! read more

This food truck is awesome! If you are a Bakersfield native, you are probably well aware of the lack of food trucks present in our community. I kind of am enamored at the idea of food trucks, and love seeing them in LA and abroad, but kind of gave up hope of seeing any quality ones in my hometown. I attended a fundraising event and happened to notice this one after stopping by Wienershnitzel for a hot dog (I know, no judgement). I noticed immediately how they had burgers and fries, and fancy ones at that, as well as a Salvadorian menu! What!? Thats not normal. I ended up ordering a pupusa, which is what peaked my interest to begin with. Although I am slightly ashamed to say this, I recently went to El Salvador, and the one I had at this food truck in Bakersfield, CA was actually better than the ones I had straight from the source, if my memory serves me correct. The owner was very friendly and the service was prompt. The unique thing is how cheap the food actually is. The pupusa was 3 dollars, beverages 2 or 3, and the most expensive thing on the menu was 7, a torta. The burgers hovered around 5. This means that regardless of what you get, it will geberally be cheaper than fast food, and of a much, much higher quality. I would definitely check this truck out if you get the chance. I've been looking for a great pastrami sandwich since Philladellis on Ming closed a few years back and happy to say I have found it here at Curbside Kitchen! Don't let the ads fool you, this food does not taste as good as it looks. First of all, the reason we went in the first place was because of a post we saw on Facebook advertising $5 Curbside Wet Burrito ALL SUMMER LONG. It's definitely still summer, but they would not honor the deal. In fact, the owner/cook was quite rude about it to the employee who took our order. We ordered two burgers with fries and garlic fries as well as a regular carne aside burrito. Everything was WAY salty. I couldn't even finish my food neither did my sister or fiance. I have been waiting to try this place for so long. Went to harvest festival at st philips church for Halloween and they were there. I was so excited!!!! Their burger was juicy and the hun was delicious, the meat didn't have much flavor but it was honestly the third best burger I've ever had. First is Firestone, second believe it or not in and out and third will be curbside. Today was my first time coming for lunch. I put in a phone order for today's special: Shrimp Flautas. I arrived at 12:35 and there was only 1 person ahead of me placing an order. The flautas were actually made with corn tortillas so they should've called them taquitos..... Each bite contained their spicy potato mixture and shrimp so I was pretty pleased that shrimp was actually in every bite. Overall they were just okay, nothing special. It is good to have options for lunch in the downtown area. So, When this truck parked a block away from my place of employment, we were thrilled. My coworkers and I tried the usual food truck staple of Carne Asada Tacos. They are great. Red salsa is spicy and tasty. We ventured over for a breakfast burrito, and were not disappointed again. But, I decided to get brave and try their Curbside bowl with Carne Asada as my meat of choice. Bad decision!!! Today was my 5th occasion having Curbside & almost every time has been at a different location! I've had them at CSUB, downtown, and at a private wedding at Hathaway Ranch previously - they're killing it. I just trekked to Amestoys for the first time to track them down - take care that there is no signage or truck outside when they're cooking here, you would only know Curbside is available there (inside) by word of mouth/social media. The Amestoys menu is abbreviated for now and seems to be focusing on slowly refreshing the idea of standard bar fare (they've just started serving at this location) - I hope they continue to expand to their usual shenanigans, the extended menu is where you want to be. The salsa is no joke, nice and spicy with flavor - not just hot for the sake of being hot. They post location(s) on Facebook and Instagram - catch them where you can, it's worth it. read more

Extremely disappointed. First of all the young lady taking our order was very rude and could hardly seem to put her phone down to help us. Curbside Kitchen had been a place I only visited virtually (via Instagram) and after picking my wife up from atomic kitten salon (plug), she requested that we stop by for taco Tuesday's finally! Located in the parking lot of what once used to be a long standing liquor store (I still believe they had the coldest beer in Bakersfield), curbside kitchen offers a pretty sweet location for locals and tourists to check out. There really is plenty of parking (next door is the public parking building) and enough brick wall space to double as a decent place to sit and eat. They are also located across from another favorite place of mine, the Padre Hotel, which is nice since they do have a sweet bar set up...but back to curbside. We both ordered two carna asada tacos and two al pastor tacos. Taco Tuesday tacos are a buck a piece, which is a really nice deal for as great as these tacos tasted! The pastor was especially good and the asada was nearly as savory and did not disappoint! Four tacos was perfect to fill the voided craving we both have had for a really good taco!
