The cake is the one component that always stands out. It is always moist and topped with the perfect amount of flavorful icing. The flavors they come up with are creative and really tasty. The decor is super cute and my pastries including the STL staple ooey gooey cake were yummy! the 3 stars is for the employee who decided to skip the line of customers that were in the store before her group of 4/5 friends arrived. Completely bypassed us (myself and a couple in front of me) and began taking their requests. As I was checking out, Bobby at the cash register saw my Starbucks gold member card when I pulled out the rest of my cards to pay and said he also was a gold cardholder. I told him I was headed there next, he was very vigilant on what I had in the box that he so delicately packed and told me that if I was going to go there that the cuppa coffee muffin would pair perfectly with a certain drink. The cake is creamy, soft and absolutely melts in your mouth! Think "wedding cake good". I'm drooling just thinking about it. The vanilla in the cake is beautifully showcased and is not overpowered by the frosting because it is there in the perfect amount. Red Velvet (Red Velvet Cake + Cream Cheese Frosting): Good red velvet cake is extremely few and far between. Most places end up with dry and crumbly cake and is only called red velvet because they dye the cake red, but The Cup has figured this popular cake out and does it well! Again the cake is perfectly creamy and decadent with the right amount of frosting that isn't too sweet, but complements the cake. I've said time and time again that the formula for my perfect cupcake is tasty cake + tasty frosting. I don't like or need gimmicks, fillings, toppings, crazy flavors. The beauty of The Cup's cupcakes is in its simplicity and how they have been able to perfect that simplicity. They're deceptively simple because they're so sinfully indulgent. I must only travel 2000 miles for the most awesome cupcakes?! The only thing that's disappointing is the fact that I discovered these cakes of awesomeness near the end of my vacay in the STL. Per my amiga's suggestion, I walked to this cute cupcake shop and ordered, what else, the red velvet. Cream cheese frosting was smooth in texture and the cake was so moist. There wasn't too much sugar (taste-wise) and the size of the cupcake appeared to be substantially larger than that of other vendors. I vowed to visit The Cup everyday until I left St. Louis. Alas, I failed because the shop isn't open on Sundays. T'was a sad day. The non-Cali prices were reasonable; the only thing lacking (other than Sunday closing) was the level of indifference of the staff. They weren't rude, but not necessarily pleasant. I noticed this on my first visit and I felt similar sentiments about my second visit. I asked the gentleman whether the cupcake with the coffee frosting or the vanilla frosting was better. His response: "Umm... they're different." And then silence. OH EM GEE! How enlightening! Let me tell you, if you asked me what the difference is between a butter cream frosting and cream cheese frosting- I'd say they're different... PLUS I like butter cream frosting better. We couldn't find parking, so she dropped us off to pick up the goods. From the cupcake calendar, I had chosen a Summer Crush orange cupcake. Everything about this cute cupcake is orange flavored -- the cake, the frosting, and the cute gummy bear on top! There's also cream filling inside. There were a ton of cupcakes on beautiful display, and my husband got a Peanut Butter Cup while my friend's hubby chose Red Velvet. Don't get me wrong -- I enjoyed my cupcake. But I've had better. It's definitely a matter of taste: I'm a huge dessert fan, and I LOVE rich sweets. I think someone who isn't a fan of super-rich desserts would love the cupcakes at the Cup. They're lighter, somehow. They actually don't make you feel like a Fatty McFatterson after chomping down, despite the fact that I'm sure they're average as far as cupcake nutrition facts go! We went to this place to see about them making a wedding cake. Despite that, much of this review will be about cupcakes, so keep reading. So we got here and they had 10-12 different kinds of cupcakes to choose from. They all looked really good. Given that we were here to see about them making a wedding cake (more on that later), we got to sample 4 of their cupcakes. The first was a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and bits of shaved chocolate on top. It was incredible. I normally wouldnt want chocolate cake for a wedding, but this was too good to pass up. The cake was moist and the frosting was amazing. The next one we tried was the tuxedo cupcake, which had chocolate cake, but vanilla frosting with oreo crumbs and a mini oreo on top. It was also very good, but not as good as the double chocolate. The third one we tried was the confetti cupcake, which had vanilla cake and frosting, with confetti sprinkles on top. It was good, but our least favorite of this group. Finally, we also had a yellowcake cupcake without frosting. We also got some peanut butter frosting to put on there separately. The yellowcake cake was really good, it has a perfect texture. Honestly, it stood on its own without the frosting. With the frosting, it was even better. I liked all their cupcakes, I thought they were very good, and a little bigger than I was expecting. As for the wedding cake, yes, they do make wedding cakes. Their cakes are generally a bunch of cupcakes for the guests, plus a small (10 inch?) cake on top for the bride and groom to cut. They all look very good. There are also many different options to choose from. Not only can you get any kind of cupcake they make (some are seasonal though), you can get the top covered in sprinkles, you can get cupcakes with a creamy center, you can get ones with other special things on top. There are also a number of options for the mini cake too. I really like their cupcakes, and I think they are reasonably priced, especially compared to their competition in the area. There are a few classics that are always there, a series of cupcakes that rotate weekly (repeating every four weeks or so), four seasonal flavors (that are only for their designated seasons), and special monthly ones. Really great and very moist gluten free cupcakes! the Cup is back on my great list! i have gone here years, since they opened and gotten the gf cupcakes, but the last time they were dry as a bone so I swore off the cup for awhile. I dont live near so its a drive but when Im in the area I like to get cupcakes. this time was back to being spectacular! I got one of each and both were super tender, moist and delicious frosting. Bought some cupcakes with my wife. We ate them together and were let down. The lemon cupcake was decent, though probably worth three stars only when considering quality against price. The chocolate was really disappointing and tasted like a grocery store cupcake. Cake was dry and light and buttercream tasted synthetic. For a dedicated cupcake shop, this was really surprising. For similar prices, gourmet cupcake shops like sprinkles or baked and wired have significantly better cupcakes. The shop is fun and the staff member who helped us was friendly. Tucked away behind some buildings off of the main stretch, it sits there, waiting for those who have never been or never saw the double doors leading to the sweet goodness that awaits them. Cupcakes weren't out of this world yummy and definitely not disgusting but if I wanted to waste calories on a cupcake, this was not the place. Most of the cupcakes were moist some were drying. The icing was overly sweet. We got a few cupcakes and they all had the same base cake. I guess I was looking for something a little fancier. For example, we got the Reese's cupcake. We thought the actual cake mix would have peanut butter or some sort but it was just plain ol chocolate cake. Same goes for the grasshopper, and tuxedo. The cake on the peach cobbler was not great. I was expecting chucks of peaches in the cake. The coconut cupcake was drying. The only cupcake I enjoyed would be the cardinals minus the sprinkles and icing. It had a hint of almond flavor which was tasty. I noticed at the cup, majority of the flavor is in the icing...now if it wasnt overly sweet I would have enjoyed. I had a small sample of each cupcake and the rest literally went to trash. Didn't want the wasted calories. I wouldn't mind shelling out 3-4$ on a cupcake if it was more than just a plain cake. 3/3/12: So...I'm here for the second time this week. Maybe because I'm starting my diet (again) on Sunday or Monday, not sure. It will depend on my food options at home. My favorite is the chocolate, peanut butter. I can eat so many that my sugar (or glucose for some, lol.) is ridiculously high. read more

I have been a regular at The Cup for awhile now. The location is perfect to me. I enjoy the Cwe so this is the perfect spot for cupcakes. Cupcakes here are regular in size, nothing big and fancy but they are Good. There are many to choose from so get ready to be greedy and the cupcakes will definitely melt in your mouth. A fav of ours is the Red Velvet. Service here is great. The decor is cute and clean. read more
