I've been here three times all together: twice for Bonnie Hunt (which is now cancelled) and once recently for the taping of "Don't Forget the Lyrics" (Backstreet Boys were contestants and I'm a HUGE fan!) I love this studio because there is a safe (cheap) parking structure just down the short block (the Trader Joe's parking) and driving here isn't scary. Culver City is a nice little city. The staff at this studio are super nice (except for one "security guard", which is why I marked this down one star). The wait outside isn't to bad. You stand along the street against the building. Bonnie Hunt and Don't Forget... are filmed in different building. Bonnie Hunt's building (first gate) wasn't cold, but the Don't Forget... building (second gate) was SUPER COLD! Brrr.... I think this is the one where they game other game shows, including Deal or No Deal. The warm-up guy, Bill, is hilarious! I've seen him three times and he is a Backstreet Boys fan, so he is quite fun. One thing about game show tapings- multiple tapings in one day... urgh. This can be really long. (Moreso if you aren't a paid audience member.) They have accessible bathrooms nearby too so it's not to bad. Don't let the staff tell you know-- just go in between episodes. Snacks and waters were allowed, but only to be sneakily eaten between episodes. They allowed phones, which is nice, but they need them to be put away. (For Bonnie Hunt, NO CELL PHONES were allowed... we had to walk back to the car to put it away... but they served us hot dogs and root beers while waiting). Long day, but fun if you are well-prepared. Be expected to be loud, do lots of clapping, and repetition due to retakes.

great Culver City history, where the heartland of movie still exist. Most people believe it's Hollywood but it's here where most of the shows are taped or also in Burbank. Come by for a tour of the studios.

ARTime BARRO is part pottery studio, part community space, and is a relaxing, chill place where you can unleash the creativity you thought was dead, where your artistic spirit gets to come out to play, if only for just a little bit of time in this crazy world. On a recent weekend, I had the opportunity to take the One-Time Class, which is a one-hour course designed for complete beginners. You get to make two pieces, one by hand at the table and one on the pottery wheel. The class size was small (just 5 people) and we got great 1:1 instruction and guidance from our knowledgeable instructor Max. I've always wanted to try the wheel and was surprised how hard it was to use it but it was such a great experience that I think everyone should try at least once. After you sculpt your pieces, you are invited to come back to hand paint (glaze) your work at no additional cost. You can also have them do a one-color glaze for you, but after I saw all the multi-colored pieces of other folks previous to me, it was no contest to decide that I wanted to color my pieces myself. You have up to 3 months to come back to glaze so it's very doable in anyone's busy LA (corporate) lifestyle. Pricing was very reasonable for such a cool bespoke experience. There are a lot of pottery painting studios (e.g. Color Me Mine) but this is awesome bc you get to make the pottery AND color it later! I've already recommended this place to countless people!

Our instructor was friendly and gave clear directions on how to mold our pieces. We each made 2 pieces, so the one hour really flew by. We had the option to come back to glaze our pieces or have the studio glaze them for us, and opted for the latter. There's a small lot behind the building, but it was full when I went. It wasn't difficult to find free street parking on a Sunday evening in this area. The pottery pieces could use a bit of extra care in handling (my wheel-thrown piece had rough edges and a random piece stuck on that wasn't there initially, and the glazing didn't look thorough on my other piece), but overall I was happy with my pieces. This was a fun experience, and worth the value!

I'd heard of Beyond the Streets before through various Art in the Streets exhibits, but had no idea that they now had a permanent physical home until I read that article. The hubby and I are longtime GWAR fans so had to go check it out! There's metered parking around the gallery, but you can also park for free on nearby neighborhoods streets. The gallery was quite sizable, with several exhibition rooms and a gift shop, of course. It's free to enter, and the exhibit was really great. Since then the hubby and I've returned for the Shepard Fairey exhibit and are looking forward to coming back for more!

Being able to be so close to some of the stage costumes of my favorite band was a truly amazing experience. The entire setup was very well thought out, and I easily spent way more time here than I would have expected. The studio isn't huge, which was a bit of a let down, but their space was certainly maximized for the art. The gift shop was nice as well, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the mixing of merch for GWAR with other past exhibits. It felt like they could have been a bit more organized about that. Parking is street in LA so you have to have realistic expectations. I did have some issues with the parking meters out front that did not like my debit cards, so it took a few tries at a few spots before finding somewhere that worked. I don't count this against them because that's LAs fault, just wanted to share it with all readers here. Overall, it was an experience I made and was absolutely necessary for a Bohab like me.
