This review is long overdue. I hosted my 50th birthday party here in July 2023. From the first phone call, Michael was accommodating and helpful with touring the venue, giving us advice, and letting us return as we were planning the event. I'm not someone that typically hosts a party, so the regular communication was really appreciated. The gallery space was perfect. We had a casino themed event (fake money and chips) with about 50 to 60 people. Tables, food, and drinks on the first level. With seating and games in the loft. The alley was perfect for the taco vendor to cook and serve the food. It was one of the most memorable experiences. I heard nothing but positive comments from my guests. Michael and Monk Space played a large part in that. Thank you!

Well I am proud and excited to be the first review of Monk Space as a wedding venue. My husband and I were married at Monk Space in November. It was a dream. I was interested in a DIY wedding. My husband and I are both creative people who wanted to create our own wedding from the ground up. We wanted something that was personal and intimate. We wanted our wedding to be in short, us. It was extremely difficult to find an industrial, off-beat space that would let us have the type of freedom afforded to us at Monk Space. At Monk Space we were able to create a wedding. We did not have to fit our vision into someone else's rules. We could choose our own vendors! This is such a luxury in the land of package deals. Further Michael is an amazing man to do business with. He was accommodating, easy to get ahold of and present when we needed him. He answered all of our seemingly endless questions and never failed to impress me with his kind, knowledgeable, calm demeanor. We loved working with him. We used all four spaces available to us for a wedding of about 100. ,We had an absolutely perfect wedding. Our guests are still talking about it. I seriously was happy with every moment and so were our guests. Thanks so much!

The Chocolate and Art show is held here. My Wife and I went here to see the art and I saw more than Art, There was body painting with topless women. The body painting was beautiful and tastful, The art is from local artisians showing their craft from Oil on canvas to pottery and jewelry. My Son is one of the artists www.manniemaniac.webs.com And it was a great show. I guess this review is for the place it was held in. Downtown Los angeles in Koreatown. The place has a beatnik / rustic feel which I love but the indoor part of it needs better ventilation as the bands start playing it gets really hot and stuffy. overall it has a great feel but as the show gets bigger, and it will, it is going to need a better place.

Haze to fill the room created light rays coming through the doorway.

I was hired to perform and create marketing imagery for a professional Argentine Tango group. Because they were all performing in the Long Beach area and would go to separate performances afterward I needed to locate a venue in LA. The client wanted texture and character in the environment which led me to Monk Space. He has around seven separate areas in the building that are phenomenal in their different feelings and possibilities. Upon arrival Michael met us there and explained as well as showed us the different areas. There is a great Green Room as well as multiple rest rooms throughout the building. All clean and well stocked. Just as important as the venue, Michael and his partner are not only extremely accommodating, but kind men. He also offers light stands, soft boxes and other items. All rooms have multiple electrical outlets. We brought our own strobes and modifiers, but having the ability to rent stands from him saves a ton of packing. They also allow smoke and haze machines in the location which was a must for this session. All in all I can only say that if you are looking for an incredible venue with a kind and welcoming owner, look no further!

On February 9, 2019, we held our daughter's Bat Mitzvah party at Monk Space. We are still basking in the glow. Monk Space was the perfect place for our party in every way. We loved everything about the look of the space - it was just the kind of arty industrial downtown vibe we wanted. Michael, the site manager, is one of the kindest most generous people imaginable. He made himself available every time we needed him, with patience, kindness and professionalism. He radiates calm, competence and downright decency. He lit the place beautifully and helped us in so many ways, large and small. The whole place just took our breath away when we walked in for the party. My daughter said her Bat Mitzvah was perfect. We agree. Our guests loved it and we got so many compliments on our creativity. Thank you Michael! Wish we could relive it a few more times.

We found this amazing place!!! We were so lucky to find this beautiful space for my daughter's birthday party. Its very hard to find a space for teen party and to find a service that was so accommodating. We met Michael(owner) who showed us the space. Michael was very professional & was prompt to his service of renting this beautiful space. I give 5 stars and highly recommend this space for any events.

    New Years Eve Wedding

We had our New Years Eve wedding at Monk Space. We planned the wedding ourselves, and Michael was lovely to work with, and extremely helpful. It was the fashion event of the year, and one hell of a party! The venue was easy to find. It accommodated our party of 100 guests. Michael took care of the table and chair rentals, sound system, as well as the "mood lighting." I 100% recommend this space to anyone!

On June 14 had the opportunity to attend a really nice event Red Tie Promotions - Reflections Art Show Featured 15 artist it was a great event Positive vibes , great art , live music , and food . Definitely will attend next year. My favorite is RIO love his paintings.

I'd heard of Beyond the Streets before through various Art in the Streets exhibits, but had no idea that they now had a permanent physical home until I read that article. The hubby and I are longtime GWAR fans so had to go check it out! There's metered parking around the gallery, but you can also park for free on nearby neighborhoods streets. The gallery was quite sizable, with several exhibition rooms and a gift shop, of course. It's free to enter, and the exhibit was really great. Since then the hubby and I've returned for the Shepard Fairey exhibit and are looking forward to coming back for more!

Being able to be so close to some of the stage costumes of my favorite band was a truly amazing experience. The entire setup was very well thought out, and I easily spent way more time here than I would have expected. The studio isn't huge, which was a bit of a let down, but their space was certainly maximized for the art. The gift shop was nice as well, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the mixing of merch for GWAR with other past exhibits. It felt like they could have been a bit more organized about that. Parking is street in LA so you have to have realistic expectations. I did have some issues with the parking meters out front that did not like my debit cards, so it took a few tries at a few spots before finding somewhere that worked. I don't count this against them because that's LAs fault, just wanted to share it with all readers here. Overall, it was an experience I made and was absolutely necessary for a Bohab like me.

And yes, I will sound prissy in some of my reasons. I am a huge priss. Can't say that I like that about myself! Pros 1. Beautiful lofts, with upstairs loft space. (Not just a big box.) 2. Brick walls and exposed pipes. Gorgeous! 3. Laundry w/in units. 4. Good sized pool compared to others we've seen in DTLA. 5. Nicely designed community areas. 6. Easy access to parking. Parking price included in rent. 7. Easy access to mailboxes. 8. Amazing gym, as the owner is a personal trainer. 9. Almost built a restaurant/market on-site. Wish that went through. It may still.. may still? 10. Urth Caffe right around the corner. 11. Gun Range next door! 12. Overall great artsy feeling. 13. Anthony. Insert Shout out to Anthony - He's the man who showed us around. He's amazing. He in himself was a huge selling point! We also got to meet the owner. Nice small community/neighborhood feel. Cons for me 1. Didn't really see many people in walking around the place. It was a Saturday afternoon and no one was using the pool or the community area. Made me feel lonely. 2. Really quiet community. 3. Views outside of windows aren't that great. 4. Didn't like driving up to the place. In the factory part of DTLA. Seems cool, but it felt lonely to me. 5. Refrigerators not provided. (small thing. really.) 6. Kind of pricey for what you get. (but I could also say that for all the lofts we've seen.) 7. Even though it's really not that far from DTLA and Little Tokyo, it seemed like it was.

ARTime BARRO is part pottery studio, part community space, and is a relaxing, chill place where you can unleash the creativity you thought was dead, where your artistic spirit gets to come out to play, if only for just a little bit of time in this crazy world. On a recent weekend, I had the opportunity to take the One-Time Class, which is a one-hour course designed for complete beginners. You get to make two pieces, one by hand at the table and one on the pottery wheel. The class size was small (just 5 people) and we got great 1:1 instruction and guidance from our knowledgeable instructor Max. I've always wanted to try the wheel and was surprised how hard it was to use it but it was such a great experience that I think everyone should try at least once. After you sculpt your pieces, you are invited to come back to hand paint (glaze) your work at no additional cost. You can also have them do a one-color glaze for you, but after I saw all the multi-colored pieces of other folks previous to me, it was no contest to decide that I wanted to color my pieces myself. You have up to 3 months to come back to glaze so it's very doable in anyone's busy LA (corporate) lifestyle. Pricing was very reasonable for such a cool bespoke experience. There are a lot of pottery painting studios (e.g. Color Me Mine) but this is awesome bc you get to make the pottery AND color it later! I've already recommended this place to countless people!
