Considering the location, it is a nice intimate venue for concerts. Located in the Korean district of Los Angeles, it has a great foyer for check ins, and two rooms for hosting, one for staging a small ensemble of musicians, and another for a reception. There is a third outdoor area for gathering your guests. Large enough to sell food and drinks. The only problem is the parking situation as it has street parking only, hence the four out of five stars. read more

Walked in dragging around more digestive drama than a soap opera, and walked out feeling like my gut had just booked itself a vacation. The staff (especially Leah) made the whole detox thing feel oddly comforting -- gentle, calming, and weirdly hopeful instead of clinical or scary. Whatever session I did -- with watery cleansing, gentle body‑works or that "let's reset your organs" vibe -- I left feeling lighter, calmer and weirdly proud of my insides for once. Even my brunch the next day tasted like a triumphant comeback instead of "why did I even bother." The place feels clean and welcoming, not the kind of "alternative spa cult" you hear horror stories about. Instead, it's more like a cozy hideaway for your gut, body and energy -- where the healing feels real, and you leave wondering if your digestive system just whispered "thank you." If you've been thinking about doing something wild for your gut -- this place might just be the gentle, slightly magical jolt your insides needed. read more

A hidden gem in Koreatown. I've been here twice for The Industry's listening parties. The perfect scale and articulation for those type of events. But because it's in Koreatown, parking is a drag. Make sure you give yourself at least 20-30 minutes ahead of time to search for parking. read more

This review is long overdue. I hosted my 50th birthday party here in July 2023. From the first phone call, Michael was accommodating and helpful with touring the venue, giving us advice, and letting us return as we were planning the event. I'm not someone that typically hosts a party, so the regular communication was really appreciated. The gallery space was perfect. We had a casino themed event (fake money and chips) with about 50 to 60 people. Tables, food, and drinks on the first level. With seating and games in the loft. The alley was perfect for the taco vendor to cook and serve the food. It was one of the most memorable experiences. I heard nothing but positive comments from my guests. Michael and Monk Space played a large part in that. Thank you! read more

I have never experienced a cooler, more professionally run production/event space in my life. And I have used, and been to, several: from New York to Berlin to Santa Fe to San Francisco. Monk Space has many evocative looks: gritty, urban, industrial, brick, authentic, distressed yet refined and adaptive enough to host a classical music series, hip weddings, and cutting-edge comedy. I especially like how hidden it is. It's like discovering your own LA hideaway, which is probably why Monk Space is used to host top-secret celebrity chef dinners, high-end photo shoots, and private acoustic sets by LA's top musicians. Michael Monk and his team are very discreet, and can meet all your needs beyond the shoot or activation, including craft service, security, event planning, and audio post through Springbok Audio Post at Monk Space. Michael says he is building an upstairs podcasting studio too. Wow. Just book it. You won't regret it. read more

Well I am proud and excited to be the first review of Monk Space as a wedding venue. My husband and I were married at Monk Space in November. It was a dream. I was interested in a DIY wedding. My husband and I are both creative people who wanted to create our own wedding from the ground up. We wanted something that was personal and intimate. We wanted our wedding to be in short, us. It was extremely difficult to find an industrial, off-beat space that would let us have the type of freedom afforded to us at Monk Space. At Monk Space we were able to create a wedding. We did not have to fit our vision into someone else's rules. We could choose our own vendors! This is such a luxury in the land of package deals. Further Michael is an amazing man to do business with. He was accommodating, easy to get ahold of and present when we needed him. He answered all of our seemingly endless questions and never failed to impress me with his kind, knowledgeable, calm demeanor. We loved working with him. We used all four spaces available to us for a wedding of about 100. ,We had an absolutely perfect wedding. Our guests are still talking about it. I seriously was happy with every moment and so were our guests. Thanks so much! read more

The Chocolate and Art show is held here. My Wife and I went here to see the art and I saw more than Art, There was body painting with topless women. The body painting was beautiful and tastful, The art is from local artisians showing their craft from Oil on canvas to pottery and jewelry. My Son is one of the artists www.manniemaniac.webs.com And it was a great show. I guess this review is for the place it was held in. Downtown Los angeles in Koreatown. The place has a beatnik / rustic feel which I love but the indoor part of it needs better ventilation as the bands start playing it gets really hot and stuffy. overall it has a great feel but as the show gets bigger, and it will, it is going to need a better place. read more

I was hired to perform and create marketing imagery for a professional Argentine Tango group. Because they were all performing in the Long Beach area and would go to separate performances afterward I needed to locate a venue in LA. The client wanted texture and character in the environment which led me to Monk Space. He has around seven separate areas in the building that are phenomenal in their different feelings and possibilities. Upon arrival Michael met us there and explained as well as showed us the different areas. There is a great Green Room as well as multiple rest rooms throughout the building. All clean and well stocked. Just as important as the venue, Michael and his partner are not only extremely accommodating, but kind men. He also offers light stands, soft boxes and other items. All rooms have multiple electrical outlets. We brought our own strobes and modifiers, but having the ability to rent stands from him saves a ton of packing. They also allow smoke and haze machines in the location which was a must for this session. All in all I can only say that if you are looking for an incredible venue with a kind and welcoming owner, look no further! read more

On February 9, 2019, we held our daughter's Bat Mitzvah party at Monk Space. We are still basking in the glow. Monk Space was the perfect place for our party in every way. We loved everything about the look of the space - it was just the kind of arty industrial downtown vibe we wanted. Michael, the site manager, is one of the kindest most generous people imaginable. He made himself available every time we needed him, with patience, kindness and professionalism. He radiates calm, competence and downright decency. He lit the place beautifully and helped us in so many ways, large and small. The whole place just took our breath away when we walked in for the party. My daughter said her Bat Mitzvah was perfect. We agree. Our guests loved it and we got so many compliments on our creativity. Thank you Michael! Wish we could relive it a few more times. read more

We had our New Years Eve wedding at Monk Space. We planned the wedding ourselves, and Michael was lovely to work with, and extremely helpful. It was the fashion event of the year, and one hell of a party! The venue was easy to find. It accommodated our party of 100 guests. Michael took care of the table and chair rentals, sound system, as well as the "mood lighting." I 100% recommend this space to anyone! read more

Wow. Just wow. Let me begin by saying that I have never dealt with a BETTER owner than the owner of Monk Space, Michael. From the moment I met Michael on the day of the viewing he was an absolute pleasure and more to work with. My event was a very specific type of event and he was able to accommodate 100% of my needs and many of them were very last minute. His communication, accuracy, attention to deal and professionalism was very impressive and left me nearly speechless. I would definitely rent this space again as long as Michael is steering the ship! Thank you so much Michael! :D read more

Great little venue for ... well anything really! Some people use this for weddings, parties, exhibits and shows. The event that I went to was an orchestral show with about 10 players. 6 strings, a percussionist and 3 singers. Venue sounded cool. The brick walls added a cool acoustic effect. Nice little snap to the reverberation. I was surprised how many people you can fit on there. There were probably a little less than a hundred people who went to the show. And the venue was perfect size. They have a outside bar area, a green room and another room that a theater company was renting out. I thought it was cool how small and kinda unmarked venues like these play host to the coolest shows. Feels like you're part of something new and innovative. I The guy who was hosting us, the clients was really helpful and tried to attend to every request we made. IEC cables, extension cords, fans, water, hardware stores, whatever. It was great. I will definitely keep this in mind for future shows or parties that I may need to organize! read more

I got married at Monk Space less than a month ago and I am so happy my husband and I chose this total blank canvas space to host our ceremony and reception. Michael, the owner, was easy to work, quick to respond to emails and answer logistical questions and always able to accommodate extra walk-thrus. It's very much a DIY as much, or as little, as you want venue. There are various options to for an event and we used a lot of them: hiring their staff to transition the main room from ceremony to reception space, renting their PA/microphone, etc. The best thing about the space is that we could create our own bar, which is a tough one to get with other event venues! With a cute courtyard and space for a food truck out front, according to our friends we had a totally "L.A." wedding and were so happy about it! read more

I recently rented this space with a group of girls to host an art show. I can't express how amazing each step was with the help of Michael. He made us feel totally welcome and reassured that we would be taken care of from start to finish. I would recommend using this venue for any event just based on customer service alone. But in this case, it's not just that. Monk Space and the employees went above and beyond for us. A truly rare experience. The space is really amazing. The lighting was perfect for our show and since it was all on sliders, we were able to move it around to just where we needed it. The artists utilized the entire wall from floor to ceiling so the lighting part was really great. There is an outdoor patio area that held a good amount of people and can we talk about how amazing the two bathrooms are?!! They even are separated for the ladies and gents which I thought was awesome. All together, this place is such a gem. I will 100% do another event here. read more

Michael was so helpful, accommodating and communicative. He had a ton of chairs and tables we are able to use. The dressing room came with clothing racks and makeup lights. There were 3 clean bathrooms stocked with toilet paper and paper towels. Best rental I've ever had. Used Monk space for a film shoot and everything went so well because of Michael's kindness. He really went out of his way to make sure I had everything I needed. I would highly recommend this place to anyone for an event or a shoot. You will be very happy. read more

I shot a few short content things in this space a few years back and I have to say, this is how location should be - easy, efficient, friendly. Michael is a real great guy and you get your rental done quick. We got 24 hour access to the space during our rental time and that is amazing. If this location fits your needs, don't think twice about it, just get it! read more

Well, what can I say? I been to this place a few years back for a show I was working on because Michael (whom I never met at the time) was nice enough to let us store our equipment overnight. He entrusted us with the key and all. Fast forward 2 and 1/2 years later. So I get to a location scout and immediately knew I was somewhere familiar. This time I was at MONK SPACE which is at the ground floor of the building to where I remember the show we used his upstairs space for storage which I believe are now uses as edit bays? Not sure. Anyhow, we all loved the place and the warmth that Michael had shared. Honest. Flexible. Genuine. Sincere. Helpful. He never said "no". Generous I've been working in events and some sort of entertainment for the past 21 years. Its rare and refreshing to encounter a real and genuine person to do business with. Michael and the people on his team/staff we equally genuine and helpful. I would recommend this place to everyone and the cool thing about this place is it can be used for just about anything. read more

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this space!!! If you are looking to put on a great event, a private party, an art show, film, photo shoots, whatever, this is the space for it. The owners are really great people. Michael is very helpful and very informative and kind. He is always available and whenever I need to get in the space he makes it happen, he is a great guy!!! This space has a rustic vintage feel to it but can be transformed into a magical scene out of a movie. It is equipped with lights and air so when all the guest come in they won't have to worry about perspiration. There is also a green room/dressing room. I encourage you to look at the photos on the website, before you book your next event elsewhere. I HIGHLY recommend Monk Space. read more

I shot my music video at Monk Space and it was the perfect location! Michael was such a great host and so accommodating. We were going for a spooky/horror vibe for this project and it worked out amazing. I'll definitely be back to film here in the future and I hope you do too. Thanks Michael! read more

I went to the Chocolate and Art show with a couple friends this last "smoke pot and forget to paint the town Kony" day, otherwise known as 4/20/2012 - or for those of us who grew up, Friday. The show itself was pretty awesome. the entire idea behind it is grandiose with local artists work, live indy bands playing, girls walking around wearing nothing but chocolate, more chocolate to eat, and booze! The problem I had with Monk Space is the layout. First it's impossible to find. Unless you know where it is, good luck. You won't find it. Then you walk into a room, slightly larger than your average living room with no air circulation. It fits about 30 people standing comfortably but is hotter than hell fully populated. So you have to make frequent visits to the miniature courtyard that separates the front and back rooms. Which is also very small and no matter where you stand, your in the way. The back room has the bathrooms, only 1 at a time so prepare yourself to wait if there's a decent turn out. And is also small. I'd love to check this place out with limited occupancy and maybe host a small show there or utilize it as a studio location. But for an event of this magnitude, Monk Space falls short. read more

I recently did a dinner event at Monk Space. Michael and the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating, and made the experience one of the best ones I've had as an event manager. I am a producer and director of a comedy web series called Bubala Please, and we were in need of an affordable urban/ industrial location to shoot a music video. We were referred to Monk Space by word of mouth (though a fellow filmmaker), and I am SO glad we made the connection. Working with Monk Space is about making a personal connection with Michael, who owns and operates the space. Within moments of speaking with and meeting Michael, I know Monk Space would be exactly what we needed -- with the personal touch. Michael took interest in our project, our production, our team, and our mission and made sure we had everything we needed to make our shoot successful. Firstly, the space itself is incredibly flexible and accommodating. If you're looking for a warehouse type space, I would look no further. The space has large brick walls on either side, plus there is a plastered area that can be painted and manipulated to meet your needs (we painted some graffiti on that wall to give it extra grunge). There is also a very cool painted brick wall that looks a bit like the side of an outdoor building. We made use of every corner of the space. Secondly, we booked the additional Monk Space Annex as well. We were able to use that as our "green room" for our actors, make-up artist, and crew. This room is large and would work perfectly for auditions or small green screen shoots too, but it was exactly what we needed for our production day. We even served our catering in that space. Thirdly, we made use of Monk's equipment and rentals. We used several flats, lights, grip items, and sets to make our production come to life, and luckily, we didn't have to run around town searching for them. Monk had about 80-90% of the lighting we needed, plus we were able to build a really convincing prison set within the space (which they have available). Finally, all this was available at a very fair price! We spoke to so many studios, all of which provided a fraction of the amenities, space, and flexibility for 3-4x the price. I was really surprised by the low price, thinking there must be a catch, but there really isn't. You can see the result of the music video here (warning, it's explicit!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h_ObEbqze4 Since we filmed our first project at Monk, we did go back to film a scene with a famous actor, Fred Melamed. Michael understood we were looking for a green screen stage, and invested in getting a green screen installed in-time for our production. I believe this is now available to all clients. Honestly, working with Monk Space is a pleasure. It's perfectly located in central LA, has a lot to offer, and is perfectly affordable for the independent filmmaker. I can't recommend it enough. read more

I had my 30th birthday party here and it was amazing. We put on an epic food fight, a dream come to life. It's hot, parking isn't easy, and you can't play music loudly after 10 pm, BUT the pros of the space totally eclipse any cons. The space is industrial but friendly, it can feel vast or cozy, great acoustics, very workable and in a central neighborhood. Michael, the owner, is a dream to work with. Straight forward, fair, with and professional, he will work with you to make your project a reality. HUGELY RECOMMENDED. read more

I LOVE THIS SPACE!!! I threw my girlfriend a 30th birthday party there and it was amazing. It's is a raw space and I was able to decorate it to my liking. The space is HUGE as I didn't even use one of the rooms. It is reasonably priced for the space you get. There are 3 bathrooms, which were cleaned and stocked before my event. 3 different rooms and an outside space. The owner Michael was extremely pleasant, friendly, professional and responsive. He was always around when I needed him. I had a minor audio issue and they were able to fix it within minutes. Michael was very flexible and allowed me to treat the space as if it were my own. Even the gentleman who was cleaning at the end of the night was super friendly and helpful. Although, you can't play loud music after 10pm, it didn't matter, with the outside door closed you were not able to hear the music outside and we were able to dance until the party ended. I would definitely use this space again and CAN'T WAIT to have an excuse to throw a party there again. Thanks Monk Space for helping in making memories we will never forget :-) read more

First of all, thanks to Pixeldrip for bringing out the Community fans to enjoy the fan art at this establishment. It was awesome. I read the previous yelp reviews and knew how difficult it would be locating this place. I checked out google maps, street view and made sure I got there with enough time to look around in case I got lost. I do wish that the place was close to an food and/ or beverage establishment within walking distance. Luckily there was a cupcake truck that parked in front. I had to stuff a mini cupcake in my mouth after we left the art show just so I wouldn't be starving by the time we grabbed lunch. The space is quaint so I'm not sure how it would work for a long event. Smaller than I'd imagined. The place does need a new paint job but that would include all the other businesses around as well. I know the exposed wall look is "in" right now but it could use a light facelift. It's very discreet on the street. Literally two doors with a number. There is plenty of free parking around the corner on Manhattan Blvd. Some metered in front. read more
