I heard about The Crux & Co through social media & found myself heading there on what was their opening day. I was expecting crowds but thankfully it was just nicely busy & I was seated in the window - great spot for a bit of people watching. The decor is light & fresh with a combination of large tables for groups or shared dining & smaller tables for those dining alone or in smaller numbers. It was the cakes that I had come for but I had a browse of the menu & was swayed enough to try the pork belly burger, which was pretty tasty & came with wedges & sour cream & sweet chilli sauce to dip them in. I probably could have used a couple more wedges but perhaps that was a ploy...it left me with space for dessert. The fridges contain cakes that look too good to eat, along with a selection of pastries as well. I was not disappointed by the raspberry/chocolate mousse cake that I had, it was a taste sensation!!! The Crux & Co are serving Five Senses coffee, tea by Ovvio & Mork hot chocolate. I was anticipating for the staff to be overly attentive & borderline annoying being the first day. I couldn't have been more wrong, service was incredibly friendly & relaxed & the food & drinks I ordered came out fairly promptly. Overall it was a really pleasant dining experience & I look forward to going back again.

Smoked salmon scrambled eggs on squid ink toast

Sunday morning on a rainy day means that there are no queues and though parking may require a wait due to the everlasting popular kettle black across the road, there are lots of spots and it's free. Crux and co is difficult to spot amongst a variety of corporate and apartment buildings. Enter a bright airy space with typo or kikki k like look and feel. Service is quick if not pushy even though there was no wait at this cafe. I was asked a coupe of times about my order within 3 minutes of sitting down. My extra hot skim cappuccino had a rough acidic flavour and I could taste the chalkniness of the milk separate to the pungent coffee. A coffee not well made. Between the two of us, we got the lobster bisque Benedict which arrived with two prawns on crusty stale squid ink toast and the smoked salmon scrambled eggs on squid ink toast. Despite being two different dishes, they tasted quite similar. I couldn't taste the spicy sriracha mayo on my smoked salmon scrambled eggs. There wasn't enough Benedict sauce on the eggs, which meant that it lacked flavour. Two prawns in one dish doesn't make it a dish with prawns as the highlight. Our bill was quickly placed in front of us within five minutes of us putting our forks down. The dishes are unique, taste good but if you order two different dishes you expect them to taste different. The coffee was below average. May go back to try other dishes but will be getting my coffee elsewhere.

Bisque benedict with tiger prawns, poached eggs and a lobster bisque hollandaise served on squid ink toast ($20.50)

Located a short walk from the domain interchange tram stop and just across from the equally popular Kettle Black cafe, Crux and Co was bustling on a Sunday morning. We waited about 20-30 minutes for a table of two when we arrived at 10:40am. The only natural light that entered the cafe was through the windows right at the front of the cafe, with the rest lit by ceiling lights. The interior was a little cosy with tables in very close proximity of each other. Squeezing in between the tables to reach the bench seat without pulling the table decor with my winter trench was a little struggle however once seated it wasn't a concern to me. Staff was attentive however I am led to believe the motivation behind the attentiveness is to get people in and out as fast as possible (we were handed the bill shortly after we finished our eclairs). While I can appreciate it is due to how busy they are, it did cut our catch up short as we felt we had to leave. Dishes that make up this review: Mocha Bisque benedict with tiger prawns, poached eggs and a lobster bisque hollandaise served on squid ink toast ($20.50) Salted caramel eclairs ($4.50) Yoghurt eclairs ($4.50) Mocha; was well balanced with no fancy latte art to marvel at. Bisque Benedict; I was a little intrigued by the tiger prawns mixed with poached eggs and a lobster bisque hollandaise after seeing it on instagram. The tiger prawns were just cooked (very tasty, great texture), eggs were perfectly runny and the lobster bisque had a bit of a seafood flavour to it but it wasn't strong enough to be able to tell it was a lobster flavour. Eclairs; The eclairs that I've seen so many photos of were beautiful to look at and had a tasty filling but I had expected the eclair to be a little more light and fluffy whereas this eclair was a little heavier than I had anticipated. Mushroom burger and pear blossom tea

Nice place for brunch. I'm not coffee person so not sure about coffee but hot chocolate and tea are very nice. Mushroom burger super yummy! Sweet potato chips are crisp outside and supper smooth inside. Love it! If you are tea person try pear blossom. You won't disappoint.

Great new cafe right opposite to the Kettle Black. Tried the blueberry croissant bagel with cream cheese and I love it. Buttery crunch goodness! Can't help but to take home 2 of the displayed pastry.
