Wanting to cover all the best brunch places (65 of them) on the urbanlist, I was excited when a friend recommended to meet at touchwood for brunch.
The walk along bridge road is truly a sight for all senses. So many nice cafes, shopping outlets, bars with really good deals and pop ups.
Touchwood is conveniently located across a tram stop (48 and 75). It has an outdoor seating area, balcony seats, two sets of indoor seating area.
Apparently you need to stand near a wall to get the concierge/seating person to find you with the clipboard and have you seated. Thank god for table service as the queue just for take away coffee goes out the door.
Once we were seated on two bar stools and encroaching on the space of a trio of guys, it was difficult to get the wait staff attention. I waited for about about 15 minutes before my friend grabbed us some menus.
By the time the waiter arrived we had decided on our food and were desperate for coffee.
We ordered a long black, skim cappucino, the sticky coconut quinoa pudding and the roasted curry pumpkin with brussel sprouts, kale, poached egg and goats cheese on bread.
We received our coffees at different times and my friend and I both complained about the small coffee cups. Coffee is delicious though and strong. While waiting for our food, the trio of guys seated next to us each ordered the chilli scrambled eggs which looked scrumptious and creamy. They also got a side bowl of crispy French fries. Ooh and coffees. Its funny to see guys replacing their burgers with healthier options. :)
The sticky coconut quinoa pudding was absolutely scrumptious. My friend and I shared it because it would have been too filling for for one person. It has pistachios, a variety of fresh fruit (raspberries, kiwi, apple, blueberries) and pieces of coconut. Its very starchy so must be cooked with coconut milk. Yumm
The curries roast pumpkin was bursting with so many flavours. I think I tasted cumin and saw some sesame on my plate. We didn't get any brussel sprouts. Just their leaves. Fail. Also got lots of kale leaves. The poached egg was nicely done. The goats cheese was bursting with flavour and went well with the pumpkin. The bread was delicious and easy to cut into it and the right balance between toasted and soft. I did think the dish was overpriced as you only get one slice of toast, one egg, and a little bit of pumpkin for 17 dollars.
All up our bill was 40.10.
