I've never had such a hard time getting a reservation in Charlotte as I did getting this! And for good reason - the Crunkleton is a classic spot for great food and they're especially known for their cocktails (whiskey fans check it out) located in one of my favorite Charlotte neighborhoods Elizabeth, the surrounding area has a ton of charm and is close to the city's center. While many live further south of Charlotte uptown, with Truist bank moving their headquarters to Charlotte, I can only see the city continuing to attract young people and growing the uptown scene. The Crunkleton reminds me of one of my favorite southern restaurants Church and Union which growing up my family and I would frequent the Charleston location. We started with the pesto burrata flatbread pizza that came with a sweet balsamic glaze which reminded me of Tomasso's balsamic vinaigrette that my family famously stocks up on every time we're in Kiawah. My fav items were the chicken piccata and the waygu burger although the Mac n cheese side def deserves a shoutout. I would definitely recommend The Crunkleton as one of the better dining options in the CLT area to grab a good drink, great food, and cozy fun atmosphere. Didn't have reservations on a Friday to celebrate my husband's birthday but was happy to discover they have a call ahead wait list option. We chose to arrive right at open, 5pm and were easily accommodated by friendly staff. There is a decent amount of seating outside patio, large and standard party inside along with very comfy seating at the bar. Courtney was our server and he did an excellent job providing a menu overview. He also made a few good drink and entree recommendations. We ordered the Hanger Chimichurri Steak, the Pork Shank, Bacon Artichoke dip, and Charred Oysters. All were absolutely delicious. The shank could have used a bit more seasoning for my husband's taste and I felt the artichoke dip could have been unbelievably a bit less cheesy and more artichoke. For desserts we tried the beignets and house made pecan pie! They were both so good it felt bad eating them! The beignets were the fluffiest and melt in your mouth version I've ever had in the area. On to the food...for appetizers we ordered the Duck Flautas and Fried Calamari both were delicious. I order a Wagui burger medium and it was well done almost 40 dollars for a burger that wasn't even prepared properly. I ordered an order an old fashioned that was watered down to say the least. The final straw for the evening after spending over 500 dollars on dinning to be hit with a 30 dollar parking ticket, for the lot they recommended I park at and then to be told they don't validate parking. Showed up at 4:45 on a Sunday (although hours showed 5) and the bar seating was full in all but the one spot remaining, which I gladly took. This is a membership only restaurant, which was not explained to me why, but you pay $10 for the year and you get benefits? Again, not sure what those benefits are, but because I was visiting from out of state they waived this fee. 1st drink - Mezcal Sour. If you like Pisco Sours then this is your tequila alternative. And Hailey filled it to the brim. 10/10. 2nd drink - The Brooklyn. Similar to a Manhattan. I would have preferred a Manhattan. But Hailey also filled this to the brim, so no chintzing on the alcohol. Ordered the Sweet Potato Gnocchi. Holy hell was that delicious. Very savory meal with A LOT of duck. Only a few pieces of gnocchi but I'm here for it. Only finished half and going to drool until I'm hungry again. Left room for the infamous Pecan Pie. I'd give it a 7/10. Definitely order, but maybe it was over hyped and I was expecting to roll over in my grave? I will 1000% be back whenever I visit the Charlotte area. We started off with 2 appetizers and a round of drinks: Mac and Cheese & Mussels. Now, I'm a vegetarian so I can't really speak on the Mussels but the way they were gobbled up, I'm sure they were good. The mac and cheese though? DELISH. I easily could have made that my meal, but since we had ordered it for an app, I decided against it. For my drink, I had ordered a Hemingway Daquiri which was strong and tasty. My husband had ordered the barrel aged old fashioned which he like but didn't love. And for dinner, my husband ordered the Pork Pasta & I ordered the sweet potato gnocchi. While my item was good, I didn't love it. I was eyeing the beyond burger and should've just gone with my gut. I brought a friend from out of town to The Crunkleton on Saturday night and we had a fantastic dinner! Our waiter, Samuel, couldn't have been more personable and fun to talk to (shoulda taken his rec and tried the rye & pecan pie - next time!) and we were lucky enough to be seated at one of the big half-circle booths, which was awesome. The space and vibe of the restaurant might be among my favorite in Charlotte - perfect balance of lively yet cozy, refined yet casual and quirky. Love their focus on craft cocktails as well - we both really enjoyed the ones we ordered (my friend's was similar to a margarita with champagne in it, and mine was similar to a Gimlet). The food blew our minds. We shared the calamari appetizer (which was so unique - cornmeal crusted/extra crunchy and tossed with olives, capers and roasted cherry tomatoes), then we split two sides (the Brussels sprouts, which were just a tad overcooked in my opinion but still flavorful, and the 7th St Mexican street corn, which was out of this world - Duke's Mayo truly makes everything taste better). The highlight of the meal was the entree we shared - sweet potato gnocchi with duck (both crispy duck confit and lots of dark meat duck mixed in), mushrooms, kale and a rich, creamy sauce. I will have dreams about that dish - it was like a luxurious ode to Thanksgiving in a fancy bowl. And finally we finished with the world's tastiest sticky bun - hot and melty inside with sweet, crunchy pecans on top. YUM. Had a fantastic brunch here to celebrate my husbands birthday. I was able to make a reservation 2 weeks in advance. There were a couple people able to walk in at opening on a Saturday morning, so a reservation is recommended but not required. The interior is beautiful. Leather seats fill the space as does the aroma from the hickory wood smoked oven. A vast bar lines one wall, filled with bourbon galore! We split the beignets to start and we're pleasantly surprised with how big the dish was-8 beignets total. They were warm and flaky. They tasted more like a croissant than a traditional beignet, but still a delightful pastry. I had the Charlotte hot brown as my brunch entree. It was fantastic.. and filling! It's is a medley of all things breakfast- bacon, French toast, fried chicken, and eggs... all in one bite. I loved the gravy and cheese that covered this dish. It was a sweet and salty delight! My gosh....we know the Crunkleton never misses...but my gosh! This trip I had such a great time. I visited recently with a friend and we had a time. We sat at the amazing bar, my fav seats in the house, and our fantastic bartender was Ash. I mean I knew she was going to be great just based off her name lol. But she really was so sweet and attentive and funny! We ordered so much yummy food and drinks this trip! My first drink was their barrel aged old fashioned and it was perfectly made and delicious. My 2nd drink was an espresso martini. This was my first time ever trying this drink so I was a little nervous, but it was really good too! Now the food!!!! All of it was literal perfection: ~ Raw oysters and charred oysters: I prefer a raw oyster and I loved the ones we got this night, but I also really loved the charred ones as well. Which is rare for me, but they were so delicious and the toppings complimented the oyster so well. ~ Calamari: OMG, I've never had Calamari that came with olives and bell peppers so at first I was like "hmmmm, what's all this", but that first bite! The flavors went so well together and I love tart/bitter food so it really was such a yummy surprise for my taste buds. I mean seriously damn good! ~ Wings: my first time trying their wings and I would 100% order them again. They were crispy and hot and delicious! ~ Mussels: Let me talk to you about this dang on butter sauce the mussels were in Oh.....my.....GOSH!!! I wanted to dip every piece of food we had in it! I visited this spot a few times for dinner but never for brunch. My birthday was the perfect opportunity to visit with family from out of town. Reservation: Highly recommended. Tip*** There is a $10 annual membership to dine. The membership allows two adults to dine per membership. Something to keep in mind for large parties. Out of town guest are not required to have a membership. Parking: There is a small side of the restaurant and bigger back parking lot. Carpooling is highly recommended for groups. Cocktail: Bellini 4/5 it was good but the glass was too small for the $13 price. I would've preferred to pay for a Kraft or have a larger glass. Order: Sticky Bun 3.5/5- it was served in a cast iron skillet but it was only lukewarm at best. This was disappointing. I would've given it a five if it was hot. I loved the pecans. Shrimp and Grits: 5/5 the shrimp and grits was delicious. The sauce tasted more like a tomato based sauce with plenty of shrimp and mushroom. The grits was cooked perfectly but there were too many tomatoes for me. I counted at least 9 cherry tomatoes. I just ate around it. Highly recommend. Hash-brown Casserole: 5/5: everything about this casserole was amazing. Highly recommend. Charlotte Hot Brown: 5/5 I was almost hesitant to try this because I don't like spicy food but it was delicious. The sandwhich had the perfect amount of heat and the egg and cheese gave it a savory flavor. The fries were good too. Tip for parents: They do not offer booster seats or high chairs. Service: Our server was pleasant and very knowledgeable about the menu. He even packed out food to go. Overall the food was great (besides the lukewarm sticky bun) and the small Bellini. Yes this spot lives up to the hype! For years my sister has been suggesting that I visit this spot when in town. The Sunday prior to my most recent departure I had the opportunity to check out brunch at this spot. I would highly recommend securing reservations for this restaurant. The best way to do that is to call! I attempted to make the reservation online and was not successful. My sister called and secured us a spot with no problem. First thing to note is that this is a private membership club. What does that mean? Well, in order to dine at this restaurant you do have to pay a membership fee of $10 annually. You can register for a membership online, or include it in your dinning bill during your visit. Once you are a member, you can bring a guest to dine with you who does not have a membership. Admittedly I do not like this idea. Essentially as a person who does not reside in the city I have to pay $10 extra for my meal. Ok, so what did I love about this spot? First of all it is just sexy! When you walk up you immediately feel the shift. It's as if you immediately feel relaxed and comfortable. The decor can be described as mid- century modern with a sprinkle of contemporary. Additionally the staff were friendly, attentive, and overall just amazing. It felt as if I was dining at a 5 star restaurant. Last, but not least- the food! I ordered the tree hugger omelet and my sister had the avocado toast. I really enjoyed all the veggies in my omelet. However, I have to say my sisters toast was amazing! That is what I will be having during my next visit! I am so glad that I finally had the opportunity to check this spot out. I would highly recommend checking it out. We had a wonderful time at the crunkleton! It is truly a unique space within Charlotte. I love their cocktail menu, as they give their take on many classic cocktails, and not only are they delicious, but also beautifully presented. The food is also great! We had the charred wings, French onion soup, and then shared the lobster risotto. Everything was well seasoned and flavorful. Kudos to the cheese pull on the French onion soup. They also have a really neat bar, and I love their open kitchen concept. This restaurant will give you an old-timey feel. It is very quaint and romantic. I also love how all of the servers wear the same outfit, with my favorite part of it being the bow ties. The service is great too! Something to also note: They have an extremely wide range of spirits, some even dating all the way back to prohibition. I went to the crunkleton with a few friends for my 30th bday celebration! I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time and It was the perfect occasion to go! I didn't get a great picture of It, but I started with a gin cocktail that has passion fruit purée in It. I believe It was called Saturn. It was really yummy. I ordered the steak frites and the steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. There were so many fries! Not complaining, I just couldn't even make a dent. Not pictured here is their mac and cheese and wedge salad. Both were divine. The only negative I could say is that we waited on our food for a long time! It was about an hour once we ordered. An Instagram post for Tomahawk Tuesday got my friends and I into The Crunkleton. The deal is half price Tomahawk steaks on Tuesday evenings. We were able to secure a reservation for a late dinner. Since we were dining late we ordered our steaks first and then our sides and then drinks. Totally out of order but we had to secure our steaks. At our reservation time of 8:45 there were only 5 Tomahawk steaks left and we got 2 of them. For sides we went with the large Mac and Cheese and the Fries. We also ordered the Mussels. For cocktails we all got the Old Fashion. Everything arrived at the table around the same time. We loved the amazing sauce with the mussels. The mac was creamy and the fries were full of garlic and hard to stop eating. The steaks were elegantly displayed. We ordered them cooked medium rare and medium. We felt like the steaks were missing something like a little more seasoning besides the char of the meat. We asked for salt and pepper for the table and seasoned each piece at a time. Overall we felt the sides and mussels stole the show. The steak was a wonderful experience but just wasn't flavorful enough. Exceeded our expectations. It was a more upscale that we had planned. We stopped by short notice on a Fri night and they said it would be a 30 min wait for a table outside. Fortunately, they had an immediate patio spot for us to enjoy a drink while waiting for our table. They clearly invested in the patio....it's a great setting with shading for sun diffusion and/or privacy. We started with the Loaded Hummus ($16) and it was a unique and enjoyable starter....very light and satisfying. My bride ordered the Really Good Burger ($16) and it was just that...she loved it! The Hollindaise pulled it all together, nice little side of asparagus & tomato. Also, the mignonette was great, so good with the onion. Highly recommend. Yes! Yes! Go! You will not regret it! Enjoyed dinner for the first time and please know that I'm going back (they have beignets and I was too full to try them, of course I'm going back)! The Crunkleton is a part of The Shops at 7th Street plaza so to prevent from passing it look for the Family Dollar that's also apart of the shopping center. There's also additional parking right behind their building... just be mindful not to speed through the parking lot. When we arrived, there was a wait (reservations are recommended) but after walking in and seeing the bar, the wait didn't seem that big of a deal. Plus we received a text that our table was ready a little earlier than the expected wait time, so all was good. Keep in mind, there is a membership requirement which you can take care of with the hostess but I saw a link on their website so you can probably take care of it there also. Once we were seated, I was able to pull up their menu via the QR code (SN: their decorative QR was dope and hopefully they keep those around). Our original waiter was busy but that didn't stop us from receiving prompt service from another (I'm horrible with names but he became my new best friend instantaneously). Our original waiter (Courtney?) was just as amazing and super helpful. I will say just from our waiters and observing others, every single one is knowledgeable about their food and the wide variety of liquor and spirits offered - kudos on that! I went with the Bees Knees (gin doesn't make you sin - it just makes you happy lol) and it was tasty. We also ordered Charred Oysters as an appetizer and me not being an Oysters person... I'm getting them every time from now on! Try them, trust me! I was in a rare mood for a burger so I went with my gut and ordered A Really Good Burger (added a hard Fried Duck Egg) with a side of garlic herb fries. Well... We found it! For-.out-of-towners it was a bit inconspicuous... But it is immediately adjacent to the Starbucks on the corner! Anyways.. so its a private membership restaurant and bar.....what does that mean? For $10 /year you and a guest may dine or drink there. It's worth it. We sat at the bar...there is a vast array.. almost overwhelming amount of liquor and choices...but bartenders-- like Benjamin can help you hone in on a good choice. They also have beers and even some wines! The bar seats are super comfortable... Only complaint for those who have shorter legs... Your feet.might not touch the foot rest...just saying! Anyways the food and all the drinks look amazing. Our charcuterie board was amazing! Tasty fun and filling with meats cheeses , pickled vegetables and mustard and jellies and homemade toasted bread.. Music is from 70's and 80's fun and upbeat ..not too loud .. so you can talk.. 2 TV's are available ( they weren't on). Their is a bar a dining area and a patio. I ordered the Pan Seared with Beurre Blanc and Southern Succotash. The succotash was different because I am a picky eater. Of course I picked around the lima beans, but the corn was still tasty. I could have done without the Beurre Blanc sauce on the Salmon. It provides no extra flavor for me. The Salmon it's self though was cooked to perfection. I could eat salmon all day everyday. I also had the pleasure of tasting their Gochujang Coconut Shrimp and charred wings. Both dishes were really good. I wish I could go into detail about the sauces but I forgot. Somebody please tell me why have I not done a review for The Crunkleton up until now ? I kid you not I have been here over 100 times for brunch and dinner . The Crunkleton is what would be considered a speak easy restaurant and bar. A membership for the year is only $10. The ambiance here gives off very underground New York upscale bar/restaurant vibes. So I'll share with you some of my favorites I have indulged in here ,because as I mentioned above I have been here several times for brunch and dinner . Some of my favorite items to indulge in here is the hanger steak , steak n eggs , mussels, & the charred & raw oysters . Although I have tried variety of drinks here I always seem to come back to the drink called The Painkiller, I have officially deemed that as my signature drink here . Far as the desserts I have had both the s'mores and the pecan pie . The pecan pie is to die for ! I'm thinking of going to get another slice Tomorrow actually . Unfortunately Tomahawk Tuesday was a bust. Even with an 8PM reservation (which we were early for) and multiple staff confirming that we were indeed there for the famous tomahawk steak, we were sadly told that the last steak had gone to the table behind us that was seated after we were. So... all I can really say is the restaurant looks nice and so does the food, but after spending 40 minutes waiting to not eat I don't think we will bother trying again.
