On arrival we were a little confused to where the dining area was as we came in what we knew later to be the back bar entrance. Leading us into a separate dining area which had no one about. The bar staff were busy and didn't catch on that we were a little lost. A member of our party tried a door which took us into the restaurant area. We had a good table and it was relatively busy for a Tuesday. It turns out Tuesdays are a night with steaks on offer also, a good deal but I knew what I wanted before I got there. I chose the local scallops, black pudding crumb, lobster & parmesan infused risotto this looked great on arrival however I quickly spotted there was no black pudding and an addition of chopped king prawn to the risotto. The dish was a little bland but with additional parmesan it improved. Another lady with my party did not enjoy the risotto at all and really only ate the small scallops on top. For main course I went for the flat iron steak having loved it at another restaurant. I was informed by the waitress it was served pink... My favourite way for a steak! When the food was delivered there was a little mix up and tooing and froing. What seemed like a little misunderstanding over surf with some turf, kinda felt like a big deal to one of the waitresses. Having tucked in I could see the steak was more medium-well and as i bit in realised it was very tough, chewy and over cooked. I tried another bit and it was the same. I brought this to the attention of another waitress who quickly took it away. She returned to assure me another was on the way and that they would speak to supplier as this was unusually tough cut. I got my replacement which was exactly how I had imagined however my whole party had finished their meal and I felt a little like I as holding them up. We had brought our own cake for dessert and organised for the obligatory candles, parade and song. However before taking the cake out the waitress didn't check our table and it was missed by the guys Mum and daughter who'd went to the bathroom. Id tried to make eye contact to kitchen door but Birthday spotted her and she had to continue. Ha what a palava! We got no plates or forks with the heavily iced bday cake which we had to chase. I don't know what to make of here. Nearly want to try it again due to food being quite nice, friendly but inconsistent service and the great reputation it has built. Maybe this was an off night?

Their steak night is every Tuesday and consists of 2 8oz steaks 2 sides and 2 sauces for £23, what a bargin. Steaks cooked to perfection and believe me I'm not shy at sending a steak back if it overcooked (if it's not rare it's not worth eating). They also do a great breakfast menu at weekends which is the perfect way to start your weekend. The bar has a great selection of beers, wines, spirits as well as a fantastic selection of craft beers including their very own.

I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. We've been here a few times and the food is usually memorable for the right reasons so we brought friends along who hadn't been before. On my last visit I'd forgotten my phone so I couldn't photograph the exquisite duck pasta I had (which is still on the menu and one of our guests chose and found it delicious too). This time, with phone available I've provided pictures, or as an American chum calls this practice: food porn. I don't see it that way, but I suppose it takes all sorts. Our servers were very affable and friendly. I started with the chicken liver parfait, which came on sourdough toast with a lip - smacking spiced apple style chutney. The chicken liver was smooth, light, mousse like, and delicious. In fact delicious sums up all the food here. I don't know how it happened, but parfait, which just means perfect, that was normally associated with sweet, cream - based desserts, has come to describe savoury food. My wife had a salmon tart to start and declared her food as lovely. Now I've a confession; I've never before eaten venison, so when I saw a venison ragù main, with favourites like pasta, parmesan, pine nuts and raisins I thought; sold. It was really very tasty indeed, with deep, complex rich flavours and I enjoyed the venison, but this dish would just be as good without it. My only niggle was food temperature: the food should have been much warmer and the bowl too should have been really hot. Parmesan crisps would be an added flavour hit. My wife had the battered fish & chip main. This was delicious fresh haddock, superb chunky chips and mushy peas. These weren't just any old mushy peas they were perfect mushy peas. If the fish was cooked with the option of tempura-style batter it would be truly wonderful. We all settled for coffees at the end then as darkness fell and autumn chill pinched we departed for Belfast to hear Andrea Bocelli. Some days are diamond.

All four of us loved our food here. I had delicious fish tacos (£16 with a choice of side). The fish was cod in a light batter with fresh lime, coriander, fresh chilli. My first choice of scampi wasn't available. I opted for a chunky chips side to share around as I didn't want them. While 5 star grub it's too expensive for what it is but was the only dish overpriced. I noted from the menu that a fillet steak with fixings is now £40. The desserts (all £6.5) were scrumptious and fair priced - I had raspberry ruffle baked Alaska and a flat white (£3). Cosy place. The staff are wonderful too. Hope we return soon.
