Bits were put in with the fish without asking for them, which was appreciated. Food was cooked to order. The chips with curry was excellent. It had a little bit of spice, but not a very strong curry flavour. However, it was still very good. Almost more like chips with gravy that had a very slight curry flavour to it. The only negative was that we had a long wait for the food. It was worth it for the hot fresh food, though.

I visited this little gem recently and had the best meal in a chippy I have ever had…read more I have been here a few times before but never had anything other than the standard fish and chips (which were delicious) but this time I thought I would be a bit more adventurous and try the fish of the day - which just happened to be 1/2 a lobster with garlic chips and marie rose sauce.....all I can say is WOW this knocked my socks off! To be able to get this type of fresh produce from a chippy is just amazing, you cannot ask for better - infact it was so fresh that we saw more fresh fish being brought in as we were being served. My boyfriend had the scampi and chips and although this didn't look like much on the plate, it was gorgeous and he also said its the best chippy he has ever had - high praise there believe me lol The staff are friendly and helpful, the seating area is small (there are only 5 tables) but if you are lucky enough to get a seat by the window you can appreciate the scenary while tucking into your chips :) I cannot recommend this place enough!

I'd read some glowing reviews of this fish & chip shop so I kept it in mind. I don't eat this food…read morevery often now but I did eat a lot of it in my early teens, but that's a whole other story. So pulled up into the car park, two degrees outside and 'are we human or are we dancer' coming out of the radio as I turned off the engine. First duty was into a nearby supermarket for a soft white bread pan. When it's fish n chips it has to be tea, bread and lots of butter. A good sprinkling of salt on the fish n chips too. Carbs, animal fats and hardly a healthy calorie in sight. So into the chip shop to a friendly welcome from a man, certainly didn't look like Paula but it's a funny old world so I thought better than to ask. Two fish and chips please (or as we used to say: two fish suppers) £11.60 was required. I checked it was cod and he almost seemed taken aback at my question - he said, 'of course'. I waited a bit pleased that the food was being cooked to order. The portions of cod were huge, with fresh, white chunky and skinless meat. If you aren't sure how fresh cod tastes try it here as it's very fresh. I thought each chip portion was a tad mean but once home and in the plate it was generous enough. The food is cooked in beef dripping. There is no substitute good enough, groundnut, peanut, rapeseed, olive, corn oils none come close. The batter was towards thin and I like that, and to be fair the food sat in a take out bag until I got home and put out the plates and do on. Despite this the food was excellent, perfectly good food and still quite warm. A chip buttie was a must. Now I've eaten some of the finest foods on earth but I gotta tell ya the taste of a white soft pan bread chip buttie with a bit of salt and a generous slap of butter is wonderful made all the better with hot tea. The glowing reviews are right, it's a great place. The next time I want very good fish & chips I know where to go. Maybe next time I'll sit in and have it at its very best. Who knows now that oil prices have fallen the prices here should drop too.

There are 3 things that make The Crescent the best chip shop I know…read more (1) Chicken fillet burgers (2) Curry cheesy chips (3) Battered Mars Bars To explain in more detail, for say roughly the past 5 years I've often visited both this branch (Monkstown) and their other in Kings Crescent. Used to be on a Friday night my friends and I would get the vodka in, go to the video store and rent a movie, then head to The Crescent for a good old dirty chippy. Ah those were the days! Their chicken burgers are nearly the size of my head, no joke! They're scrummy! You really can't get a better burger anywhere else. The chicken is unbelievable juicy, completely tender and battered to perfection. They also make the nicest curry cheesy chips (I'm sure some of you reading this will be thinking, curry? and cheese? What? But really, don't knock it until you've tried it. Then you can thank me, you're welcome in advance by the way!) And so we move on to the battered Mars Bars. Now, I know this is a controversial subject, a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it, but personally, I'm a lover (of Mars Bars, definitely not Marmite) and I dread to think that some of you poor souls won't even have heard of the greatness that is the battered Mars Bar. If this is the case, go to the Crescent right now and get one. It's one of those, you must try these before you die. You will not regret it!

I decided to try Geogia's on Holywood High Street as there's always a queue and I've always wondered if it was actually worth waiting for. First thing I am going to say is the staff are great, there were 3 working when I went in and they seemed to be running a tight ship, each person had their job and they were performing their jobs to perfection. I asked if they took debit card but unfortunately they didn't. The chap working said I could place my order and go to the ATM further up the road and by the time I got back my food would be ready. He wasn't wrong because I came back to the shop just in time to answer the all important question, 'Do you want salt and vinegar?' The food itself was good, although not mind blowing. There's plenty of competition in this area for fish and chips so Georgia's always had a lot to live up to. I got a 'Cod Supper' - I got loads of chips (too many) but the fish portion wasn't huge although it was fried to perfection. The meal was enjoyable and I will definitely be back although I might try something different from their large menu.

Great place that should deserve a lot more attention…read more A little difficult to find, and definitely need a second pair of eyes... The outside of this place was an industrial-looking building that nobody would have thought it's a fish n chips place. Parking was TIGHT! So be warned!! The moment you walked in, it gave out an old harbor diner feel (not sure if that's how you describe it)... Tile flooring, straight 90-degree wooden booths. They have both takeout and dine-in service, so we decided to enjoy the moment and sat in for our fishy. Most of the items have both regular size or what they called a "supper" size, which just means more on the chips... or fries for us North Americans. We ordered the classic Fresh Battered Fish and a Pastie (huh?) As you wait for the goodies, you could hear the sound of fish or chips being fried, that's really music to my ears! The fish was LONG! Fried to perfection with minimal batter, just the way it's supposed to be to showcase the main character- FISH! Despite ordering the regular fish n chips, the portion of the fries was perfect for us... those fries were THICK CUT and the size of my thumb!! And then, our mystery Pastie arrived. My first thought was "a flatten ball of..." FISH PASTE and potato (pure guesses on the potato part, not 100% sure). It was a very interesting fried loveliness for us... it tasted a little like those Asian fish sausages with onions. Overall, CHEAP and WORTH THE DRIVE! Both of these combined were only GBP 8 something (about CAD$13)! If you ordered the exact same thing back home, the fish n chips along already cost more than $13.
