I think it had passion fruit in it. It was so good! My friend's favorite dish was the scallops and mine were the prawns. :) They were giant and so tasty! The oysters were good too and I definitely would order more next time. Being from a landlocked area, it was so cool to hear how fresh this seafood is! This is one of the best dining experiences I've ever had…read more Prawn on the Farm is a delightful, casual-chic tent restaurant set on a farm lawn with a stellar vista over the Padstow area of Cornwall, out toward the coast where their fat, creamy oysters come from. It may sound strange to those with preconceived notions, but the place has the exact vibe of a well-done Burning Man camp, including the sense of being comfortably ensconced in the environment. The constant presence of the benign outdoors--beside the operation's hooped greenhouses--is absolutely perfect for a restaurant that prides itself on fresh, hyper-local produce, fish, and beverages. And what food! The menu is small plates...except for some larger whole-fish options. The strategy is to order 2-3 per person and share. This ensures that you are getting a cascade of delightful flavor combinations that remain surprisingly subtle despite deep character and a broad flavor palate that ranges from the mild creaminess of cannelloni beans and bacon sparkles under a small slab of baked hake, to a scallop grilled in a soup of Thai green curry. Flavors combine to gently surprise: tree ear mushrooms and fresh dill, candy-sweet cherry tomatoes and tarragon, kale with truffle oil. The combinations are so insightful and unexpected that it's often tricky to identify them, even though the dishes remain clean, simple, and pure. The extreme freshness and site-specificity of the ingredients means that quantities are limited and the dishes on offer are constantly cycling. If you see something that looks good, order quick before it changes to something new! The service is excellent, with a young, skilled and friendly staff both in the front of the house and in the open kitchen; a snafu with our order was quickly and easily resolved. Unsurprisingly, the bar offers local alcohol, including Padstow Brewery's excellent modern and traditional beers/ales, and Tarquin's interesting gins. The POTL team also has a taqueria in Padstow, and apparently the temporary tent will be replaced with a permanent structure next year. I hope they find a way to retain the current feeling of the place, because it's just perfect (even though the season is quite short). Be sure to reserve WELL in advance. Though you have no sense of packed busyness while there, this place books out during the summer season, and it would be a pity to miss out on food that tidily upends Britain traditional reputation for bad cooking.

WONDERFUL. Everything my party ordered was devoured enthusiastically. I got the hash browns with tuna & the calamari. The flavors were so good. For only ordering fried food, I was surprised at how much flavor each of the items had. I wish we had room for dessert! I hope to come back if I'm ever in the area again.

I let the server know my unhappiness- they offered to cook another but this order took so long that waiting for another seemed pretty sad. And we were so hungry from hiking around. Ultimately the server took 15% off this £19 burger as we finished less than half of the scorched pile but that was not much to make us feel okay about this place. Very frustrating to wait so long for a depressing looking and tasting meal.

But the food was sublime. There was a good menu (starters £15ish, mains £20-30), but we had the specials. A starter of wonderful crab in mayo, then turbot with crispy skin. Perfectly cooked, with firm moist flesh. A superb ice cream sandwich for pud, sat on poached summer fruit. For special occasions.

So we wondered if this place can compete or even take the throne. In short: No. The Oysters are nicely presented and indeed very fresh and good sized. But they lack the smoothness and creaminess of the places we've mentioned above. They're good, but not great. Service was a bit basic, not as friendly as I would expect it to be in such a place. And they quite made some calculation mistakes with the bill. Had to correct them twice. Good Oysters - yes. Best ones - no. But if you won't go anywhere near our top choices, this place still is a good option. There is other fresh seafood available too.

We shared butterflied prawns with crispy mcbites, both were superb. For mains, shared Cornish hake with black rice and Roasted haddock with potatoes and broccoli. The place is located at the working harbor, adjacent to the National Lobster Hatchery and--authentically if not attractively--with a view of the car park rather than the bay. Rick Stein is peculiarly ubiquitous in Padstow, with shops, restaurants and even accommodations. It's all very odd and almost Disney-ish, but we figured we should see what all the fuss is about. Glad we did! The fish & chips are a distinct blast from the past, in a good way: the cod was a thick, clean white slab like I haven't seen since the 1970's and both fish and chips are cooked in flavorful beef tallow, as is traditional. While the fish is spectacular and unprecedented, the chips were undistinguished and disappointing, though apparently exactly what the world expects them to be these days...everywhere the same. I prefer the more traditional version found on the quaint pleasure boat harbor-front of the town just a hundred meters away. More modern touches included a delightful spinach and watercress salad with an Asian dressing, and Rick Stein's gin and tonic, brewed up by local Tarquin's distillery using Stein's proprietary recipe that features the unusual flavors of anise and grapefruit peel.
