Had to send drinks back twice because it was made wrong (how do you ruin a vodka and soda?). Food was fine, but I've had better fish and chips from roadside shops. There is a great selection of other restaurants nearby. Save your time on stopping here.

But they lack the smoothness and creaminess of the places we've mentioned above. They're good, but not great. Service was a bit basic, not as friendly as I would expect it to be in such a place. And they quite made some calculation mistakes with the bill. Had to correct them twice. Good Oysters - yes. Best ones - no. But if you won't go anywhere near our top choices, this place still is a good option. There is other fresh seafood available too.

Rick Stein is peculiarly ubiquitous in Padstow, with shops, restaurants and even accommodations. It's all very odd and almost Disney-ish, but we figured we should see what all the fuss is about. Glad we did! The fish & chips are a distinct blast from the past, in a good way: the cod was a thick, clean white slab like I haven't seen since the 1970's and both fish and chips are cooked in flavorful beef tallow, as is traditional. While the fish is spectacular and unprecedented, the chips were undistinguished and disappointing, though apparently exactly what the world expects them to be these days...everywhere the same. I prefer the more traditional version found on the quaint pleasure boat harbor-front of the town just a hundred meters away. More modern touches included a delightful spinach and watercress salad with an Asian dressing, and Rick Stein's gin and tonic, brewed up by local Tarquin's distillery using Stein's proprietary recipe that features the unusual flavors of anise and grapefruit peel.

We shared butterflied prawns with crispy mcbites, both were superb. For mains, shared Cornish hake with black rice and Roasted haddock with potatoes and broccoli. Delicate flavours and very well matched with Cornish wine Carpe Diem. Desserts were beautiful as well, brownie sundae and burnt cheesecake were both delightful. Good value for money. Perfectly cooked, with firm moist flesh. A superb ice cream sandwich for pud, sat on poached summer fruit. For special occasions.

We both had crab linguine with chilli and lemon and again it was lovely, not too spicy, a nice hint of lemon, The only downside to this menu was the dessert, we were very full but we did look at the dessert choices to see what was available but nothing was really inspiring compared to the rest of the menu. A lovely refreshing sorbet with fresh fruit would have been quite nice instead of ice cream. We declined the dessert, however highly recommended, average, price, cost me £51.00 for the two us which included 2 beers and a lemonade.
