An amazing locally owned restaurant known for their tasty chicken. I've been here several times and always had a great experience, They have a variety of seating options including at the bar, booths on an elevated area overlooking the bar and standard tables. They are all comfortable and spacious with seats that will work with any body type. They have a pretty large drink menu with some fun and creative options (and of course you could always order something not on the menu). The food menu has their featured chicken, pizza, salads and entrees such as pasta. I don't know the secret to their breading, but is is crispy and packed with flavor and the chicken is juicy and tender. Portion size is great and everything I've ever ordered has been tasty. The one downside is that with the high ceilings and nothing to dampen sound, it can get really loud . Had a reservation last Saturday for 7pm. The night started off great we were seated promptly, greeted and order drinks quickly. We decided to try a pizza (hot honey) for an appetizer and it was delicious! We waited a little bit to put our food order in as per the waitresses recommendation because we didn't want the food coming out at the same time. However, we ended up waiting over 30 minutes for our food (maybe longer!) which was frustrating. The cheesesteak was good and a nice portion for the price l. I thought the chicken/fish and chips platter looked a little scarce for the price. The bar was pretty packed but the restaurant itself was not. Excellent pizza. Sort of New York style. Crispy crust with thin dough, just really good blend of flavor.

The atmosphere at Coxcomb was bland but acceptable, a lot different than Bella which they replaced. Our first time being there I was not impressed, being in the hospitality industry I expect a better experience. The service was good very polite and friendly and that's where it ended for me. Food took to long to be served and the value of what you received wasn't good at all compared to the same dish else where. I don't recommend this restaurant. I don't say that very often. Went here for brunch on a Saturday. I got the Coxcomb hash and it was excellent. My fiancé got the breakfast sandwich he said was also very good and bacon was cooked perfectly. Solid spot for pretty good bar and American food. Not sure why the reviews skew so negative. I got to try their classic white pizza. It was a great size and a solid deal for a well made pizza. Nothing exceptional, but still, very good. They definitely did not shy away from the garlic or the pepper with this pizza, perhaps excessively so. But, it was very thin and very flavorful, so I don't mind. It was wing night so we tried an order of six. Not impressed with their Coxcomb sauce. It tasted like it was smothered in Frank's Hot Sauce. Also ordered their jam burger which seemed to miss the boat. The burger was slapped together, and really didn't live up to its title. Couldn't taste any of the items that were supposed to be on it (bacon, special jam, etc). The included fries looked and tasted like they were a few days old (greasy, limp and way too salty). We were seated immediately but waited 20 minutes to get greeted by our waitress every though she made eye contact with us struggling with our very hungry kids the whole time. Finally ordered and the "coke" didn't didn't taste like regular coke, almost flat tasting. The food was well over seasoned and to each their own with that but I was super disappointed with how the kids' chicken fingers looked when they came out, they were really over done and I spent most of my meal scratching off the black on the fries so my kids could eat something. Wow! Went to coxcomb because Panera discontinued their French Dip. While it wasn't the ciabatta bread I was craving, it was a pleasant surprise. They put their French dip on a folded pizza that is DELICIOUS. It's huge, so I'm no longer surprised why it didn't automatically come with fries (at least on the DoorDash app). Anyway, amazing, you need to try! The only other comment is the crispy onions seemed like they needed to be cooked more, wasn't crispy and the onions seemed on the raw side but still amazing. read more

Well, I know of several people (my friends and family included) that went to the Coxcomb when it first opened and did not have a great experience. I went with my wife recently, after the restaurant has been open for about a year and wow what an opposite experience we had in comparison to those that went when it first opened. First and foremost, the menu is really extensive, with lots of different choices of food. Everything we had was great. My wife had a salad, which was full of good stuff. I had a panini sandwich, that I enjoyed immensely. We started off with Calamari. The atmosphere is nice with a decent bar area and lots of seating. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. If you tried this in the first couple of months that they were open and did not enjoy, I strongly recommend that you give it another try! read more

One of our new favorites in the Monroeville/Murrysville area. Been twice for brunch and not disappointed. The price and the tastes are both excellent. Personal favorite for both taste and value is the breakfast pizza! Space is great for small and big groups alike and the design is perfect for catching "the game" while balanced with a family friendly dining experience. Service is super friendly, but is fairly slow especially given the restaurant is not super busy. This is the single thing that keeps this from being a five star option, but if you're up for patience, the food comes out hot and is yummy. Highly recommend. read more

Coxcomb is the old Bella Luna. It got a major upgrade with food and service. The food is BIG TIME good and reasonably priced. Our waiter's name was Christian. He was awesome. Two stars for service. Why management would book a single bartender (working hard) + barback (working hard) on wing night during a holiday week is curious and potentially telling. Intrigued? See below! My wife and I have been to Coxcomb probably 10 or 12 time, but this last (final) visit was egregiously poor from both a quality and management standpoint. Here's the traditional "I've been service industry, and I'm patient to a fault" disclaimer, and I'll again state the service isn't the issue. This visit, we ordered two different plates of wings, a side salad, a chicken strip and fries entree, and a cheese dip app. Wings ordered crispy/well done. It took about 45 minutes (and two drinks) before the side salad came out, and to be fair, the lettuce was crispy and had dressing, just like a side salad (that's usually pre-prepared and comes out in five to seven minutes). After an hour, our cheese dip app came out -- alongside the chicken strip entree. The cheese dip was gloopy and thick and entirely inedible (and also arrived 30-45 minutes too late for *an appetizer.*) I told the bartender it was not up to standard, and they apologized and said it'd be removed from the check. After another 10-15 minutes, the wings arrived (which, ordering them well-done, is fine, contextualy.) Despite ordering two entirely different sauces, one with a dry rub (dry + wet = awesome), they were indistinguishable from each other and also were not at all well-done. I ate three of 12 wings and, disappointed, dumped them together on a plate. At this point the bartender said they'd get the manager. Upon hearing our complaints, the manager reiterated that they'd take off the cheese dip (heard), but that the wings were rung up as the same sauce, and my complaints that they were rubbery were untrue because "they came out of the fryer crispy." Cool -- not how they were delivered, so I wonder how long they sat for? She also said they were *very* busy, but I'm not sure how that makes my sludgy, inedible cheese dip or flabby, boring wings better. See again: maybe have the appropriate (or appropriately trained) staff...? Anyway, literally (not figuratively), in the middle of this discussion ,she turned on her heel, "apologized," printed the check, handed it to us, and left. So anyway, go to Coxcomb if you want decent bar service, bad food, and management that outwardly and obviously doesn't care if you had a terrible experience because they have a cache of townie locals who will go there no matter what. Also they own Pittsburgh Pickle Company which, since the pickles are in a jar, have never given me a negative experience (but makes me wonder if other jared pickles would give me a better experience?) and also Beerhive, which has a great burger but also I knew a bartender there from a previous restaurant so maybe I'm just lucky and the bulk of Beehive is bad at their job, too. We've been here twice now. Once in December 2023, ordered pizza, and it was good. Went again in April 2024, ordered an order of fried pierogi and they were good, then ordered the wings and they were horrendous. They had a lot of potential - they were very large wings. Kitchen must not have adjusted from the normal wings because they were extremely undercooked. They were served as whole wings. No big deal, if the wings are cooked properly the sections should tear apart. These... not even close. I struggled to tear these apart because I figured with the amount of effort I had to put in, the wing would go flying out of my hand across the bar. The skin was rubbery, the meat was chewy, and only 4 of the wings were cooked all the way through. These were, hands down, the worst chicken wings I've ever had. read more

Service by Csssi and helper was great! Went for happy hour for the first time with a friend and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Really like the atmosphere, sort of industrial. Nice happy hour prices on wine and beer and discounts on mixed drinks. We were both happy. We enjoyed wings, prefer the small ones, but they were still good. We also had chips with a smoked queso. chips were fresh and delicious. The queso was good. Will definitely return soon with a gang. We live nearby and feel we are limited in solid food/happy hour/beer choices. We generally enjoy local breweries as well as home made food (no chain restaurants). We were happy to see this restaurant opened so close to our home and took us a few months to actually try it. We went tonight and all around the service was awesome. From the hostess, to bartenders, to our server everyone was friendly and accommodating. We were extremely happy to see so many local breweries with beer on tap. The chicken wings were excellent. The chicken and fish were great and the pizza was good. Overall we are extremely happy with our experience at The CoxComb and are happy to have a new local favorite to frequent. We have a 3 year old and typically stray towards breweries as they are a bit more kid tolerant but felt right at home with our 3 year old. I'm sure we will enjoy many more happy hours here. We never tried the previous restaurant at this location but hope the coxcomb stays for years to come. I'm assuming the clientele from the previous restaurant to this one is very different and I would imagine the bad reviews would be skewed this way. If you want a yummy meal, I doubt you'll be disappointed here. read more

The actual fish was very good but the batter detracts from it. Fried pickles were the only thing that were just north of average. I would not make another trip from what we experienced. Their Chicken & Corn Chowder is a great offering but so far the rest has been mostly mediocre. Pizza was fairly good but Angus burger was not very tasty. As to service we have liked it. Noise level is a bit much especially near the bar. Will go back for the chowder and may try some other items but three stars is the best I can do right now. read more
