Got a table on the deck overlooking the ocean. Fantastic view and the food was on the same level. Had the bison short ribs and my wife had the seafood pasta. Wow. What a disappointing dining experience!…read more We were seated quickly, then waited half an hour to get service. When our drinks finally arrived, the margaritas were so salty and sour that we returned them. (Although I had to go find the server to report this, since she didn't once check in on us in the 40 minutes it took for our meal to be served.) We ordered the shared chicken souvlaki meal. The hummus had a hard, dry crust on it. The rice was basically flavorless and cold to the touch. Far worse than any of this, one of the chicken skewers was literally raw. My friend had finished her meal by the time they replaced my chicken and rice, which was, somehow, still cold. They were kind enough to offer wine to replace the bad drinks ( interestingly, not until after we pointed out the raw chicken.) After the substitutions arrived, we seemed to become invisible to our server, who walked by our table repeatedly without even glancing our way despite our multiple attempts to get her attention. They comped us wine and a shared dessert, then presented us with a full-cost bill for the main course. At this point, we just paid and left. I'm not sure what makes for adequate compensation for raw chicken.

Having adventured in a few new places in Campbell River we wanted something that we were familiar…read morewith, so we walked to Moxie's from our hotel 800 meters away. Yelp maps said it was more than 2 kilometres away, so not sure what happened there. Moxies did not disappoint, and our server Shaye was absolutely excellent. Outgoing, friendly and very good at what she did. Even took the time to make sure K's veggies were cooked on the more well done side that she prefers. Kudos to the kitchen also, for making it happen, small details matter. Her steak was cooked perfectly, and the mashed potatoes very nice. My Beet salad was very well made although I prefer my beets to be a little more al dente. The blackened chicken was good, if perhaps a little over. I believe they use a seasoned breast, which is not my favourite. Our beverages were nicely made, that said wine is difficult to mess up, but a good martini is not easy. The decor is typical Moxies, they are all pretty much the same. That said familiarity is often comforting, and we certainly felt that way. We will be back for sure.

Served with baby zucchini, roasted heirloom carrots. The Cobb salad was very different than any Cobb I have had before. It was an iceberg head halved wedge style topped with whole slices of bacon, croutons, heirloom tomatoes, feta, avocados, capers, hard boiled egg halves with an interesting yolk filling, a tasty white sauce with a slab of grilled salmon on top. It was a very nice change. Dined in a spacious lounge off set from the crowded main room suggested by the host. Service was 5 star and it was excellent way to spend lunch.

We were 22 strong, so taking care of us on short notice looked like it could be an issue. Not for Fifty Parallel! I called at a few minutes before 5 PM and asked if they could accommodate 20ish folks at 7 PM. I was put on hold for a minute and told that yes they could, that doesn't happen often. The staff took exceptional care of all of us. They were very friendly, accommodating and just right. The place was hopping the entire time we were there, so the locals must enjoy the place as well. The menu is quite wide ranging, from Greek fare, to Italian, pizza, seafood, you name it. Usually when there are this many choices they are decent at the range, but not outstanding at anything. Not the case here, everyone raved about the food and the beverages as well. Our beer drinking crowd loved the selection of mainly BC product.
