In Campbell River to attend a wedding tomorrow, our group was looking for a place that we could have dinner together. We were 22 strong, so taking care of us on short notice looked like it could be an issue. Not for Fifty Parallel! I called at a few minutes before 5 PM and asked if they could accommodate 20ish folks at 7 PM. I was put on hold for a minute and told that yes they could, that doesn't happen often. The staff took exceptional care of all of us. They were very friendly, accommodating and just right. The place was hopping the entire time we were there, so the locals must enjoy the place as well. The menu is quite wide ranging, from Greek fare, to Italian, pizza, seafood, you name it. Usually when there are this many choices they are decent at the range, but not outstanding at anything. Not the case here, everyone raved about the food and the beverages as well. Our beer drinking crowd loved the selection of mainly BC product. Couldn't have gone better, and we will be sure to return our next time in Campbell River. read more

Stopped in for a light lunch on a recent road trip to Campbell River and wasn't disappointed. Service was great from the hostess seating us to Nikki and the guy who batted clean up. Ordered some wings, calamari and Hawaiian style shrimp. Wings were nice and crispy as was the calamari. My son had the strips and fries and gave the thumbs up. Shrimp was good, could have used a little less sauce or have it on side but otherwise it was good. Enjoyed a pint of Beach Fires Amber Red Ale that was suggested by Nikki as well. Came to have dinner with my family and 50 Parallel never fails to impress me. I had a reservation and was quickly served, despite the business of the place our server never failed to make sure we were always topped off for water, or for any other needs we might have for our table. The restaurant decor is a very homely modern log place feel to it. Tables were well spaced and there was plenty of room to move around. We had a table with high seats which was good, even if the table we were seated on was of different heights. (They were side by side but of different heights?) We ordered drinks to start off, a chichi and tried their flight board. Drinks arrived fairly quickly and the chichi was excellently made! We had a saganaki to start, the goats cheese and pita bread were cooked well, a simple but great dish to start. We ordered the beef dip & fries, seafood fettuccine, crete platter as well as a cauliflower crust pizza. Firstly, portions for everything were amazing. The food was delicious and well seasoned. The pasta was absolutely creamy, the seafood was chock full, prawns, shrimps and whitefish. A delightful and filling dish for sure. The beef dip was seasoned to perfection, the bread was stuffed to the gills with beef and the side of fries is just the way to go. The crete platter offered me the chance to try a little bit of each of their greek menu, roast lamb, kalamari, moussaka, spanakopita, dolmathes, rice pilaf, greek roasted potatoes, greek salad, tzatziki & pita. I really enjoyed the roasts on the dish. The cauliflower crust pizza was really surprising. Crust was thin and tasty, with all the expected crunch from a pizza crust. The sauce was really flavorful and I really really enjoyed this dish. 50th Parallel is a place I will be back for sure several times. We've had two dining experiences here and both ended unpleasantly. On the first occasion an appetizer wasn't to our liking so we didn't finish it. Our server asked us if we we're finished and we told him yes. Moments later a staff member came to our table and asked us why we didn't like the food. We told him it was over cooked and not to our liking. This person did not identify himself. We learned later that he was the owner. He became quite verbally aggressive to the point of harassment. We asked him to please leave us alone. We didn't ask for the item to be removed from the bill but it was. We couldn't wait to get out of there. A month or so later we decided to give it another try. Our server was excellent (Phil). The food was very good. We ordered a dessert to share. In our opinion it was substandard so after one bite each we left it. Our server politely took it away. Deja vu The owner rushed up to our table and confronted us. I said we didn't like it and he argued with me! I told him that this was the second time our experience ended badly and told him to leave us alone and go away. Our server then apologized profusely. This is the new location for Acropolis Kuizina. This location used to be Freddie's Pub. Don't compare it to either! This place is neither a Greek Family Restaurant nor a sports bar/pub. My husband and I both had the fish and chips. The batter on the fish was perfect and the chips/fries were also good. As an appy I got the cup of seafood chowder. I was only disappointed in the meager amount of seafood in the bowl. It was very heavy on potatoes, carrots, and celery (mostly potatoes). It was also less creamy and more soupy - chowder is usually thicker. I think you could work on this. read more

We have been several times and have never been disappointed. The staff was very friendly, the food was fantastic. We had 4 at our table and all had different meals. My husband said his lamb dinner was unreal. My moussaka dinner was fantastic, the seafood linguini had fresh delicious seafood and the rib dinner fell off the bone. Couldn't ask for any better than that. It was a packed restaurant and the service was still fantastic. The owner came and asked how our meal way (traditional in a Greek restaurant) We left very satisfied. read more

What a disappointment - thick dust on the windowsills, a huge spiderweb in the bottom corner of the window we were sitting at. My lamb was flavourless and cold in places (I suspect that it was heated in a microwave - how else can you serve lamb in 5 - 10 minutes?). Colossal disappointment!! We lost the best Greek restaurant and got another substandard pub! Portions are small and not very good. Beer is overpriced. Atmosphere is extremely loud and cramped, with lots of highway noise if you are seated outside. Twice the price, for half the restaurant. Sorry, we won't be back. So very disappointed. read more

Been twice. Both times food has been alright. I order the order of pulled pork street tacos each time I go. The tacos are very small. Last time I went, I asked the waitress if she could add a taco to the order to make it 4 instead of the normal 3. Of course added to the bill, and not looking for free. The waitress said she had to ask the owner, and came back and said the owner said no. I could add a side of fries or salad to my tacos , but not a extra taco with charge. Also lots of people ask for an extra taco added to their order due to being very small. Our whole table could not understand why I couldn't be charged for an extra taco , which are very simple to assemble in kitchen. I've heard from other locals the owner is very arrogant, and saw it myself that meal. While eating the owner came out to ask how the food was. I ignored him and he walked away. I will never eat there again and be sure to let others know that the owner is not looking to please his customers at all. read more

Well that was an experience to say the least. The owner is horrible. We came in and the hostess advised us if we wanted a table they only had the patio available which they are not able to serve liquor on. We said that was fine as we came for dinner and we didn't need to have drinks. They sat us at 6:30pm and didn't come to our table for almost 20 minutes. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and said nothing because they did look busy. we ordered our food at around 7:15pm and they came out to tell us there was no calamari at 7:40 . Our food did not arrive until well after 8pm. Once our food arrived someone from our table asked to see the manager because we had been waiting a while and they didn't tell us our order was unavailable until 25 minutes after we had ordered. He comes to the table and we explain that we have been waiting for a while and we just thought he should know and the first question he proceeds to ask is "are you from Campbell River?" As if we wouldn't understand what decent service is if we were from out of town. He was completely unapologetic and simply made excuses for the poor service. He said he owns another restaurant and this never happens. We just said well we think you should know it was just a very long time . He proceeds to be argumentative with us and then he says he'll leave and come back when we're done as the food was getting cold. He then comes back less than five minutes later to pull up a chair at our table with the receipt from the kitchen and say see your food wasn't rung in until 743.... as if we didn't order it at 715. At this point we are uncomfortable we want him to go and he's legit debating us on what service should look like.. still no apology. He then proceeds to say "well what do you want me to do?" He was treating us as if we were just trying to get a free meal in reality it was our moms birthday dinner. No solution was made at that time and he left the table. The Waiter came back and was pleasant and took 20% off our meal. The food was decent, but honestly the whole ordeal was so off putting we will never go back. I have never been treated so poorly by a manager I wouldn't recommend this place. read more
