This business location might put some diners off as it is by a less than prestigious hotel on Gordon Highway but the humble facade is hiding a wonderful dining experience. The first thing I look at is the health rating and I was pleased to see they had a perfect score. The interior was spotless and reminiscent of an old time diner. The staff were friendly and attentive. They were doing a steady take out business but we enjoyed dining in as the staff was so welcoming. The soul food offerings here are "off the chain"! We stopped by for lunch and had a great meal. I had fried chicken, collards and macaroni and cheese. Everything was well seasoned and sooo tasty! My niece had the pot roast, fried corn and lima beans. We tasted each other's plates and decided the chef definitely knew their way around the kitchen. The Salisbury steak was flavorful, delicious also appreciated the portion, it paired well with the rice and gravy. The green beans were cooked well however could used some seasoning. The fried chicken was good, nice batter however nothing that set it apart. The collard greens were good. Service: Friendly and Courteous service. What delicious food. The collard greens are amazing, the fried chicken crispy yet tender, and the best macaroni and cheese Outside of my own kitchen...maybe. It is probably better than mine. We ate in but I watched so many take- outs going out the door. What is special about Country Shack is the friendliness of the crew. I got the last hoe cake in the pan and while I was eating, the cook brought me another fresh off the grill because she did. Great food served with love! Can't beat that! OMG!!!! Let me begin by saying a friend recommended this place to me for some down home cookin' Georgia style!!! Not really knowing what my options were I drove over to the restaurant and placed a To Go Order for Salisbury Steak over a bed of white rice and gravy along with two sides and I choose Black Eye Peas and Green Beans. I asked if a roll came with the order and the sweet man behind the counter said "it comes with cornbread, ma'am". I rushed back to my hotel and let me tell you, half is all this little lady could eat that night! The next night my "leftovers" filled up my belly just right! The place is a corner restaurant with not much ambience except for the locals that dine in and I would bet on a regular basis by the taste of the food. And they are as friendly as can be. I will be going back and the next time I'm getting dessert!!!! All I can say is it is Simply Amazing!!!! An absolutely Must Have place in Augusta!!! As I walked into the door the smell of all the delicious food was amazing, Fried Chicken was being cooked fresh the baked spaghetti looked great. I was just a little disappointed more in myself that I had gotten there so late and missed out on so much. I wanted to try the fried corn but they were out, so I got myself the Salisbury steak with black eyed peas and lima beans flavors of the South were truly delicious. The gentleman in this place running and working the line we're doing a truly amazing job and well spoken. The Ambiance of this place is almost like a down-home diner.
