I tried out this highly rated restaurant in Haysville. I got the swordfish with broccolini and mashed potatoes. I would say the swordfish is a little thin and there was not much broccolini. Everything tasted wonderful though and the service was impeccable. It's amazing how a little town in the mountains can have such good fine dining. I would try something different next time. I hear the steaks are awesome and would love to try the lobster. Bring your checkbook. read more

So, I have previously given them a five star. And they deserved it. But this last visit put us off pretty bad. Service and ambience are still top notch. But here's the 60 dollar steak story... I ordered Pittsburgh Rare, as I have done in the past and (previously) theyve gotten it perfect. So, this time they WAY overdid the steak. Barely even a hint (and I mean hint) of pink. So had to send it back. The waitress expressed for the second time that they only do Pittsburgh Rare, and not medium. Seemed an odd comment to repeat, so I said what about a blue rare instead? And the steak that came back was rare. With no seasoning or butter or anything else. Plain and not very tasty. The previous steak had a sauce, onions, melted butter on it, etc.. This one didnt even have salt or pepper. I didnt complain while there, just had it packed up as my wife was already well done with our anniversary dinner. And I debated this review for some time, as they have always done perfectly in the past, but this was just wierd and felt like retaliation for sending a steak back. I hope that next year I can update this review again, as they have been our go-to five star special occasion resteraunt for 12 years now. read more

I would like to give 4.5 stars but couldn't quite do 5! First of all, what a find in this small town. Do not miss this place on your visit! We are from the Nashville, TN area and it is better than some high end restaurants back home. Good: bone marrow, crab cake, spinach salad (esp the dressing!), popovers, mashed potatoes, carrots, service, ambience, sweet anniversary card on the table! Could be improved: duck was overcooked, stems on spinach. Really that's all. We will definitely visit our next time in town! read more

We enjoyed the Valentine's Day menu. This was the best filet we have ever had. The seafood bisque and desserts were just as delicious. We had amazing service from Holly and Emmanuel. We visit this place several times a year. Drinks at the bar are always fairly priced and very well made. Holly is great and knows how to make a solid cocktail. The menu does not change very often and usually delivers quality items. Pricing is in line with quality... Our last visit we had several diff options for apps and meals. The Caesar and Mushroom soup are must haves. As is the shrimp app and pork belly. 2 of us had the halibut during our most recent visit and the fish was spot on. Sadly the plating was not good and the fish was served with mashed potatoes, which is lazy. Fish should come with rice IMHO. And plating at a fine dining establishment should matter. This is a place that's absolutely focused on being upscale. But they almost miss it a little bit. They don't have things you can order that are in the mid range, unless you eat seafood. It's a large number of seafood apps, one mushroom app, And that was it. I do get that I think they're trying to be a steak and seafood place and the menu was consistent with that. There didn't seem to be a lot of choice for a vegetarian or anyone who didn't want a huge $30 entrée. I had a salad, they clearly made earlier in the day and put it in the fridge. I get it, efficiency, but take it out of the fridge earlier, because my salad was too cold The service was absolutely charming and lovely. That's why I left a big tip. I would hesitate to come back for a full meal though. It wasn't really "good enough" for the pricing. Easy parking. read more

The copper door offers a traditional fine dining experience that is not widely available in this region. I had heard very good things about the restaurant and had high expectations. I was a little disappointed. My husband and I were visiting this area for our 14th wedding anniversary. I emailed them a few weeks in advance to let them know we were celebrating this special occasion (the reservation confirmation said to email them with any special info). I never got a response and no one in the restaurant had any idea we were celebrating anything until we told them. The service was good but nothing special. The food was good, but again, nothing special. They have a very extensive wine list. Overall it was a nice meal but nothing stood out to us. It was a bit pricey. read more

There's an article on the wall by the bar that compares this restaurant to the likes of French Laundry, and while that is pretty lofty, the food at The Copper Door was definitely unexpected for a small town in North Carolina. And it was definitely the best spot we ate at on our 2 week trip to Lake Chatuge. We came twice and had both the menu in the restaurant and at the bar. Drinks were good too, and I don't find many places outside of the UK where Pimms is on the drink menu. The menu in the restaurant is a 4 course menu, which you have seasonal options to select each course. Food was well presented, prepared and delicious. The bar menu is a la carte, and was just as good, but you can't get items from the restaurant menu and vice versa. Hence , having to go twice to explore both menus. read more

This was our third time in the last year and it was the third 0/10. Each time the service has been attentive 8/10. Food at best a 2/10. Our salads were basic and nothing special for the price. The well thought of carrots were doused in chili powder and over cooked. Each steak or chop my husband has had was not cooked to order. My seafood has been sub par. Either super salty with scallops or shrimp and grits where the shrimp were tough and the dish swimming in butter. Add to it the popovers were well done. A $200 dinner should be outstanding. Let's start with the amazing service we had from the minute we walked in the moment we left. We started with the escargot, shrimp in butter, mushroom soup bisque, & honey lavender salad. All so yummy. Would not change a thing. So many flavors, but well balanced. Main course 16oz ribeye with loaded backed potato & crawfish tortellini. Steak cooked to perfection. We came here expecting a fabulous meal, and were sadly disappointed. We aren't a fan of popovers (which is their table bread), popovers are empty shells of bread. Not the place for a vegetarian for sure! They had a prix fixe menu, and some other entree selections. I had the wedge salad, which tasted exactly like a wedge salad, nothing fancy just 1/4 cut of iceberg lettuce with dressing. I also had the mushroom bisque, which had a strange aftertaste so I didn't eat very much of it. Our friends had steak, and the onion soup which they said was "fine". One of our friends has Celiac, and the gluten-free offerings were extremely limited which disappointed her. The service was a little slow, but very pleasant and cordial. Their Long Island Ice Tea was terrible - not sure what happened there. Make sure to check out their beautiful art work inside. They had many lovely paintings painted by the Chef's mother! read more

This place is the epitome of fine dining and surprisingly located in a small town in North Carolina. The ambiance and decor are perfect for the area on which it is located. There was not one thing we tried here that was not too notch. We had reservations so did the price fixe menu. I would check before you go because I understand it changes monthly. The standouts of the night were definitely the oysters and pearls first course and the tomahawk steak entree. You should come to this place expecting to have an expensive bill. We had an outstanding meal here over the weekend. A party of 4. dinner ran about 2.5 hours...was perfectly paced for a 4-course prix fixe meal. Our server was very knowledgeable, attentive without being overbearing. Started with fluffy, tender popovers & took off from there. All enjoyed the salad course & appetizers. Everyone ordered either the hanger steak or a filet. The hanger steak was one of the most tender hanger steaks i've ever had. Outstanding flavor. The desserts were lovely...highly recommend the table side bananas foster. The flourless chocolate cake was the only so-so bite of the night. Such a nice (and unexpected) spot in downtown Hayesville. Went there for our anniversary been in Murphy for the last five years and everybody told us this was a good restaurant the food and the service was very good. The ambience of the restaurant leaves a little to be desired for a high class expensive restaurant. When we enter the restaurant, you go through the bar and there's people sitting in the bar in shorts and flip-flops . Plus when you're sitting in a booth, you have people arms length away from you sitting at tables. It takes a little bit away from the restaurant, especially when the dinner and tip came to over $200 for the two of us. But after saying all that we will probably go back there on a special occasion only . read more
