Terrible food tonight! I've had decent luck at The Coop in the past, but my recent experience trumps the rest. The "wet" brisket was so dry and overcooked it was a match no knife could win. Black pepper on the bark overpowering all other flavors. Missing corn bread muffin because they only cook them "once a week" and had run out. Maybe that was lucky for us? Mac & Cheese with Burnt Ends was worse. Overloaded with red pepper flakes and accompanied by more super dry, overcooked, over peppered burnt ends (we love pepper btw). That dish hardly got touched. The Coop is one of my friend's favorite restaurants/bars. He was coming in multiple times a week for their food and drinks. My partner and I have tagged along a couple of times and there are definitely some items we liked more than others. The brisket tacos are phenomenal. The brisket is tender and easy to bite into. And they're huge! Other notable mentions are their daily specials. There's and everything sandwich that our friends rave about getting. I haven't tried it yet, but it's on my list. We really wanted to like this place when they remodeled, but it just doesn't feel like a cosy bar. Windows all around with a view of the parking lot. Metal chairs that scrape. They missed an opportunity. Service is great. Brisket is fabulous, EXCEPT it is unfailingly cold, along with the dry mashed potatoes and cold cornbread muffins with no butter. Also cold. Boring coleslaw was warmer than the brisket, I think. But the flavor of the brisket is fantastic! I think we'll give up. I'm tired of sending my dinner back every time. read more

Excellent food, excellent cocktails. We had chorizo meatballs, which don't seem to be on the menu anymore. Maybe it rotates. But just based off the meatballs, I'd go back and order anything they made. As for cocktails, I had the Mountain Manhattan and the wife and the Christopher Oaxacan. Both of them were excellent as well. Great flavors, somewhat innovative, definitely nothing that we had ever tasted before. Great beer selection and an amazing drink / cocktail selection to bring out your boujie. The menu here is eclectic and goes from solid appetizers to full scale dinner fare with solid options. Burgers are cooked to order and the fries are to die for. A mix of "comfort food" and "I should try that." There's something here for every one. A dozen tap handles and a full bar for your pleasure. After looking on Yelp for a good place to hang and watch sports while dining, I found Roosters which was close to my hotel. I checked out the menus and found the food and reviews to be good enough to make the short walk over. After arriving, I decided to try The Coop, not knowing the difference between the main restaurant and the small venue attached. The atmosphere was very quaint and menu looked more like a smokehouse bistro. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I sat at the bar and ordered a couple of starters instead of an entree. Their menu is a bit limited, but enough for me at the time. I ordered the Coop Poutine which had an awesome gravy over fried cheese curds and fries. A bit salty, but quite savory. I also took the Smokehouse Wings with the spicy plum sauce. There were 8 large wings. That should have been enough even without the Poutine. Andrina was my bartender and was excellent. Again, I confirmed that draft beers are only 5% ABV, but bottles and cans were standard. Every State has some type of crazy law and Utah is no exception. I chose the Roosters Double IPA in a can. We wanted to love it here. Our service wasn't wonderful. Our drinks were given to another table, I understand that we went on a Saturday night... but it wasn't very busy. My husband and I ordered burgers, we both asked for our burgers medium, but they were both extremely well done, more than well done. Very dry and no condiments were brought with the burger. No mayo, no mustard, no ketchup ir any type of sauce. The buns were buttered and toasted. I got pickles on the side of my burger, the husband didn't receive any. And the pickles were pretty tasty. On the other hand, the cheese tray was delicious, and the queso and chips were also good. I'll come again and give it another try, but overall. Not impressed. read more

Excited to see this space finally used! Went in on Friday this weekend. You seat yourself, and you must be 21 to get in. Loved the vibes, they did a great job on this location. Good Music playing , bar was poppin, service was great! Ordered 2 dishes to share as we were not that hungry, and 2 cocktails. Food was fast and delish! Okay, hands down best bar with GOOD food in Layton. I love this place. We come back here a lot. There's the ambience and many places to choose where to sit. I love that they give you the option to choose where to sit!!! You have to get the chips and dip for appetizer! The ribs with yummy sides are our favorite dishes to order. We were so excited to try The Coop last night! It's a new bar / small plates eatery next door to Roosters in Layton brought to us from the great people behind Roosters and Roosters B Street. The menu is small but filled with delicious options. We started with the chips & dip, THE most addicting thinnest chips ever with a delicious green garlic dip. My husband had a bowl of clam chowder and a half order of chicken flautas for dinner. He loved them. I tried the flautas and woah, they were so good. I had the Coop burger - a wagyu burger topped with Beehive cheese and tomato jam. It was great and those fries were keepers for sure, yum. This is a desperately needed addition to Davis County, we are very lacking in fun spots to go for drinks and food!! read more

We are huge supporters of Roosters. Whether in Ogden, Layton or B Street... we visit often and really enjoy this family owned business. When we heard they opened up The Coop in Layton, we couldn't wait to give them a try. We have been twice since they opened this 21+ establishment. Our first visit was the first week they opened and our second visit was this weekend. When we visited the first time.... I would give them a 10 out of 5! The food was great. we tried the homemade chips and dip, clam chowder and Chicken Flautas. Everything was a wow!!! Great flavor and great portions. We couldn't wait to go back. The food server we had, did a great job and was attentive. So why the 4 out of 5 stars. It disappoints me to share, but I am always honest when it comes to reviews. We stopped in Friday night and after showing our ID's, found a seat. The host quickly greeted our table. We placed our drink orders with our food server. After about 10 minutes, another server brought our drinks. We were in no hurry, so we enjoyed our drinks and relaxed. Our food server (who was the same person we had during our first visit) never returned for 45 minutes. She visited the table next to us 4 separate times, yet never checked on us. At the very least, we wanted to get our food order placed and order another drink. During the time we sat there, two other tables arrived and left, because they were never acknowledged. I finally flagged down our food server, so we could pay for our drinks and go somewhere else to eat. It had already been 45 minutes since we arrived. We were understanding and explained we had to leave due to the amount of time we had waited. She became very defensive and abrupt; stating they just opened up and the kitchen was behind. (Not sure how it's the kitchens fault, when she didn't stop by our table for 45 minutes. - sorry, it's 100% on her!) Her attitude ruined the evening and candidly, does not fit the norm for the type of team members Roosters (The Coop) employs. She needs to be managed out of the business, as she is going to cost them loyal patrons. This particular night, she caused 3 tables to leave without dinner. We will try again in the future, as we love this restaurant/bar... but rest assured, if we get this same server again, we will find another table or leave. read more

Had drinks and food here last weekend. They have both a limited food and cocktail menu. The drinks were delicious and unique, but a tad pricey for a bar in Layton. On food, we shared the poutine to start. It was just ok. There were a few fries, fried cheese curds, and a gravy that was good. I tried the wagyu burger and thought it really lacked flavor. Probably the best place to get a cocktail in Davis County. Everything Rooster's does is gold! I highly recommend the mango blood orange seltzer. I typically don't like store bought seltzers as they tend to be too carbonated. Roosters as definitely perfected their seltzer game. The food is good, but I do prefer the food at the Rooster's restaurant. The BBQ and wings are on point though. Their staff is another highlight. Drina, Preston... all of them are just amazing. The ambiance gives that happy hour, just coming from the office vibe. My only complaint... is that they're closed on the one day that office professionals need them them the most.... The drinks and the chips were delish. The risotto balls were terrible, it was bland, balls of rice that was fried. Very flavorless unless using a lot of the sauce that comes with it. I'm looking forward to trying different items on the menu though. read more

I have been traveling to Ogden and Layton almost once a month for the past three years and I can honestly say that the Coop is now my favorite spot. Tonight is my second visit and I'm actually more impressed than i was on my first visit, which was a 10/10! I have easily dined at 50+, different restaurants or bars over the past years and it is hard if not impossible to find good food, good atmosphere and good service in one location. But the Coop has all three and more! It has personality!! The drinks are good, they make a real effort to use fresh ingredients, and to make any cocktail requested, as long as they have the items. Bartending staff and servers are very nice. The appetizers, or small bites, were also very good. Though, when we decided to have dinner here, the food was not that great. I got an enchilada dish and the person with me ordered one of the burgers. I didn't finish my enchiladas, they just were not made very well. I was told the burger was pretty average, and not what they expected based on the description. Staff is great, and they do make good drinks. I prefer it over the parent restaurant, Roosters, the atmosphere is better at The Coop, imo. read more
