I'm not certain why the amount of time elapsed since my very negative experience would be relevant, and I'm not certain what exactly the manager is suggesting my motive might be for writing a false review. Chris never mentions how he knew the review was written two years after my experience. I didn't bring it up. It is accurate, I did wait a substantial amount of time before writing my review (no motive except laziness), but I don't see how the manager would know without looking up my receipt or transaction information. I did a silly thing and got a scarf stuck in my 2-year-old HP laserjet B&W printer. It responded with large ugly streaks and shadows and vengeful clicking. I didn't want to recycle it and wanted to get it fixed. The fix cost me $75 labor plus cost of parts ($200). Now, aside from the questionable wisdom of paying as much to fix my printer as I probably would have spent on a new printer, my experience with the Computer Fixer was overall positive. I'm currently a student at Drexel so I found them through the Drexel IT website. I think the value in their service is that they help individual customers and price accordingly. Yes, it's expensive, in my pricing research for fixing this print, it would have been more expensive with a corporate fixing company geared towards corporate businesses. The location of their office was easy to find. The technician was courteous and got back to me promptly (within 3 business days) with an estimate of what the total cost of repair would be. The fix was completed two days after I okayed the ordering of the fuser. My printer now works just like new. In addition, there is a 90-day warranty of the fix. Although I do think that the cost of fixing might for some people go for just buying a new machine (computer or printer), I think that there is ecological value in fixing what you've already got. read more

Located in the basement of Drexel's Korman Center, this non-university-affiliated business is there with an open-hand when some dumb college student (me) spilled a bottle of water into his laptop. As much as doctors must hate giving bad news, the people here must love it. Every "I'm sorry, sir/ma'am" is money in the bank. Almost two years ago, when said incident happened, the Computer Fixer kept me waiting two weeks and 300 dollars later to find that my computer was dead. In addition to the 300, they asked for 80 more to salvage the hard drive. This experience really hurt me, as did the outage of not having my computer as a working writer. For some reason, I thought this would be better than Apple. The staff is friendly and somewhat compassionate, but as they hire Drexel students, I get a bit skeptical. As I move into my next laptop, I much prefer warranties than being left to the whims of places like these. read more

Terrible terrible terrible. Hate it so much here. Quote from Lindsay, whom I totally agree with-if I could give 0 star, I would. $45 for detecting no problems. Then I had to bring it back for a second check since there was obviously serious problems with it. Changed the memory module of my laptop which functioned normally. Charged me around $90. The problem persisted so I went back again and was asked to pay for replacing my logic board. Thank god I didn't replace my logic board there. Don't know how much that would cost or whether the problem truly lies there. Since there was nothing wrong with my memory module, which means I shouldn't have changed that at all, I was expecting at least some portion of refund. However, that never happened. The boss is always on travel! I brought in my laptop last year in December! They told me I could get refund in February and March. People. August is coming. I called once and visited twice about this issue, the only thing that I got was their attitude. I keep emailing them and never heard back from them. I simply give up. 0 stars! Don't waste your time, money etc. Worst service ever! Didn't do the repair, kept ordering the wrong part. Never got refunded! Had my phone for 4 days for a simple charge port replacement. Not only did I not get the service I paid for, he also cut the wire for the volume buttons on my phone! He stated he forgot to plug them back in, I took my phone to "my cellphone repair" in neshaminy mall. They replaced my charge port in 30 minutes! They opened my phone in front of me bc of the volume buttons not working and showed me where he cut them. Jay u are a absolute jerk! I cant believe I trusted you at all! You cost me $600 for missing work 2 days, charged me $110 for a service never completed and ruined my quality time that I supposed to have with my family waiting on your garbage service! Summary: Jeff is an asshole, no data transfer and no refund I am a local student. Brought in my computer that had died, and they confirmed that the motherboard was fried, but they could still get data off the hard drive. Later, brought in my old computer and external hard drive, hoping they could transfer the data over. Talked to a bunch of my computer science friends after the fact, who all said that that is an elementary fix. Anyway, after requesting my new computer and a charger, making me walk to the store every day for a few days to bring them new things, they tell me they are unable to transfer the data because "the new hard drive is causing the program to shut down". This is a brand new hard drive from the Apple store, which according to them is "broken". However they said they could get different pieces of data off, and I had them transfer my photos to the external hard drive. Why could they move some data but not all of it? I called later and tried to get them to explain the problem, but the guy was an asshole and mansplained to me the entire time, and denied me a refund. At one point, thinking he had covered the phone with his hand, he yelled at his employee that "people are never satisfied anymore". No Jeff, I'm not satisfied!! I've had The Computer Fixer repair my previous 17" MacBook Pro on a couple occasions. First, I dropped my phone near the trackpad, dented the case and damaged the hard drive underneath. They were able to recover the data on the drive and get my computer back to me within a day or so. A second visit repaired a faulty logic board. When my computer needed a repair for a third time, rather than undertaking a repair they suggested I get a new one instead, which I appreciated. Definitely will be using them in the future. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! Thank you to The Computer Fixers for leaving me 75+ hours of being phoneless, further breaking my phone, and having the audacity to try to up-charge me. Just had the worst possible experience. Brought in my phone to have the back camera and flashlight fixed on Saturday afternoon. The guy in the store, Elijah told me it was a quick fix and to come back in 20 minutes. I came back, and he said he needed longer and to come back in 30 minutes. I came back 40 minutes later and then he informed me that he had messed it up and now the phone display was not working! I would need to come back on Monday night to pick it up a fixed version, and I wouldn't be charged. When I arrived home, I had an email saying my phone was ready to be picked up (?) and I emailed back asking to clarify but no response (poor communication skills). I then get an email on Monday morning saying he needs more time and to pick it up on Tuesday afternoon. Now going on 75 hours of being phoneless, I go to pick up my phone and am handed a dead phone. I asked Elijah to charge it so i can test whether it was actually fixed. In the meantime, he has the audacity to ask me to pay a higher price than the quoted amount, even though he told me it would be free after he broke the display!!! I am livid by this point. For Penn and Drexel students (and everyone else too), DO NOT EVER COME HERE. Literally one of the WORST if not THE WORST business around University City. Stupid of me not to be suspicious of the reviews in the first place. Anyways to make the story short I brought in my computer mid-month and they promised me that it would take 3 to 5 days to fix once they got the parts (no more than a week). Time passed and finally after 3 WEEKS I called and inquired about why it was taking so long. Turns out, they FORGOT ABOUT MY ORDER AND NEVER GOT THE PARTS. How incompetent can these fools be? So after they got my parts they were unable to fix the problem and blamed it on the pretense that the parts they ordered were dysfunctional. I'm under the impression that computer parts are produced via assembly line and the chance of this assumption being actually true is extremely low. So not only is the customer service terrible but they cannot be trusted to do a job. Plus even with all the screw-ups and taking a month to get everything together, they are charging a $45 fee. Do not get your phone fixed here. I brought my Samsung Galaxy in to fix a cracked screen, with no other issues- the phone was functioning perfectly, only the badly broken screen needed fixing. Picked the phone up today, and the bottom buttons would not work, and the graphics were having glitches, and the brightness adjuster would not work! I asked for my money back so I could send it to someone who would actually fix it, but they refused. I left the phone with them, hoping they can actually fix what they broke- but the only guy who fixes phones is not based at the West Philly location! I am beyond frustrated. Stay away. read more

My laptop crashed and I went to Computer Fixer because it was on my campus. After three weeks I get my computer back with outrageous charges exceeding $600. They replace silly things like my keyboard, which had nothing to do with my computer crashing. It would have been cheaper to by a new laptop. read more

I don't know why the lady in the circulation desk is so mean to the customers. The man on the phone is quite nice, but when I arrived there at 4 pm, there is only one lady in the circ. desk. Well, that's fine, I can leave my laptop there, pay $45 and wait for the results. But she refused to help me when I said I don't want to turn on the computer because it is water damaged and if there remains water inside the laptop, getting charged would no doubt do harm to the main board and the circuit. She just ignored what I said and told me if I do not turn on it to see what's wrong with the laptop, screen or keyboard, they cannot accept it and check it for me. Then she just turned to the man waiting on line next to me and left me there. I am a local college student attending Drexel University and my computer has experienced a form of DC power jack failure (basically it doesnt charge anymore), and I took it to the computer fixers seeing as they have some great reviews both from students and online. I brought my computer to them for the repair I wanted, and told them I need the DC power jack repaired if possible, if not, replaced. They got back to me after two days, with a 45$ DIAGNOSTIC FEE (even though I told them what I wanted; I understand that this is to make sure there is nothing wrong with the computer and that they wouldnt be held responsible, but come on, 45$ for nothing if I knew my problem already and what is expected out of them), and basically told me that my DC power jack is broken, and that I needed to replace my PROCESSOR which is what my power jack is mounted on, and that it will cost me around 700$. Pause. Hello? 700$? Are you kidding me? for a 30$ soldering job that is easily done by a 10th grader with some equipment, you want me to REPLACE my ENTIRE processor ANDDDD you're going to over charge me 200$ for it? Being the helpless student with assignments due in a week at their mercy, I returned to them and told the guy in charge of my computer that I need my jack soldered on, and they said "we will look at it again, and search for the part online and get back to you with the price, but there is a chance that it will not be fixed or work.. and we have to charge you for it anyway..". So let me get this straight, a computer PROFESSIONAL can't do something that I have done myself back home countless times watching internet videos with a soldering kit and some screwdrivers.. After a few more days, they got back to me with the "20$ for the replacement power jack(10$ over priced), and 100$ minus the 45$ deposit as the service fee(50-60$ over priced). Despite the fact that it cost 120$ total for a 60$ job, and took a week longer than it should, the guy had the audacity to tell me that I shouldn't even use their promotional coupon over the phone and just pay the price because the job was very DIFFICULT. Who is this guy trying to fool? It's a delicate job, not a difficult one. I basically paid 120$ for some mediocre computer guy to tear through my beloved ASUS and replace my DC power jack with the worst soldering job I have seen to date. Lesson Learned? I think so. Sorry Computer Fixer, stay with the virus clean-ups and mac book pros; when it really matters, goddam computer conartists making money off the poor and clueless college students. Guess what guys?
