This review is so overdue, and for that I apologize, Dan! As a student in a tech boot camp program, I knew I *could* get away with using only my Macbook Pro, but I also had a 21" iMac from 2012 that Mac OS Mojave had obliterated, and the computer was taking up a ton of space on my desk, and a ton of emotional energy to keep ignoring or trying to use in its condition. Trackpad stopped functioning all of a sudden, and I took it in right away in the AM. I was told they were backed up and would get a call in the evening. I explained that, while everyone wants preferential treatment- I legitimately had a big concert coming up in 3 days, and needed it critically to run the show. My first ever Yelp review - felt compelled to write something after such awesome experiences. I first went to Dan a year or so ago to fix my MacBook Air. He let me drop off my computer (lifeline for work) almost immediately and had it finished very quickly. He was upfront and clear about cost and explained exactly what he did to fix it (it wasn't turning on because the inside was flithy - he deep cleaned it and fixed it for just $150. Oh, and mind you, the Apple store quoted me $700.) Flash forward to this week and my laptop isn't turning on due to hardware issues. Again, he let me come over immediately and is very clear about the possible issues and outcomes. He checked it out, explained what was wrong in great detail and what he would have to do, and quoted me $480 and he said I could have some time to decide if I wanted to move forward. I recently had Dan put together a custom build for me. I purchased all the components on my own and dropped them off with him to be assembled into a complete system. Dan was incredibly knowledgeable and worked remarkably fast. Most other computer shops would take anywhere from 2-5 business days to complete a system build -- I dropped off everything on a Saturday afternoon and it was ready for me to pick up the very next morning, all over the course of a weekend! During assembly, Dan was very communicative and even sent me text messages and pictures of the computer to make sure that everything was put together just the way I wanted. I had a few very specific requests and everything was done to my exact specification. He also partitioned the hard drives, installed the OS, and updated device drivers. I took my Macbook Pro to Dan after my husband spilled milk on it. After reading terrible Apple forums of what happens when you take a liquid damaged laptop back to the Apple store, I just needed to find a place that I felt comfortable explaining what happened without feeling judged or asked to pay hundreds of dollars to just open the thing up. Anyway, fast forward to dropping off my laptop. The location is a bit strange as it is a home based business, but having taught in the neighborhood, I didn't feel freaked out. I was even more put at ease when I saw he had a security camera system in place which made it much easier for me to feel comfortable leaving my laptop with him. He opened the laptop up while I was there and showed me where there was still milk puddled in places. He told me he was going to dry it off and see if he could play with it a bit that night. I live about 30-45 minutes away from his place and before my husband and I got home we received a call that the computer was on and functioning well. He was going to keep working on it that night and the next morning to test it out but it looked like we were going to dodge needing a new logic board. The next day, at about 10 am I got a call and said it was functioning beautifully and I didn't need any additional work or parts. I could cry I was so happy. My husband picked it up later that day. Dan's prices are reasonable and we even gave him a tip for the great service. I could not have found a better computer tech for our needs and will definitely go back if I should ever need anything in the future. I'd say the only downside is the cash or check only payment policy since, if I had needed a new logic board or other parts, I don't exactly have that kind of cash laying around, but thankfully we didn't have a large bill that we couldn't handle with a cash payment. My laptop shut down on me, and after a few days of messing with it and asking my tech savvy friends I was convinced that I would have to buy a new one. I suspect Dan's work is very good for the great majority of his customers, particularly those who are not in a hurry. But I had a 2-star interaction with him, based on three issues: He installed an immediately-faulty keyboard in my computer (forgivable), he refused to replace that keyboard with another one unless I paid for the replacement labor as though the dud was my fault (less forgivable), and he was really unwilling to deal with a customer who wanted urgency and better communication. The last issue sounds weird, but here's what I mean: I asked if he could provide rush service, and he said he'd take a look at the machine by the next day. When I texted him the next day--understandably or annoyingly, he keeps all communication to texts--he got upset with me for checking in with him so quickly. I apologized, maybe a little quizzically. He said he needed more time, so I asked if I could pay him extra to get a rush job, and he indignantly told me it would be unfair to his big pile of other clients. I then felt I had to treat his ego very carefully, putting myself on my best behavior and apologizing profusely to him since I was relying on his help. Ultimately, he refunded me for the dud part ($35), but neither refunded nor supplied the labor it would take to replace the part. I worked with the faulty keyboard (which had one sticky key, a few non-functional keys up top, and no backlight) for about a year, but it just finally failed entirely last week. A group in NYC that Dan had mentioned did the work for me for $250 plus shipping. If I had sent it to them directly, I would have saved a lot of time and money, even with shipping! At the end of the day, Dan's is probably a good choice for someone who does not need great customer service. He certainly seemed like he knew what he was doing. Well, except for one thing, a final complaint: He did a keyboard replacement while the laptop was closed, which exposed the display to (apparently) lots of rubbing. When I got the computer back, the display laminate, which had been okay, was also almost entirely ripped up above the keyboard. It was a minor issue and I didn't tell him, but it would cost another $175 to fix according to a recent estimate. read more

When I accidentally spilled water on my MacBook Air (only a year old), the Apple Store could only send it out for a $700+ repair without checking anything. Dan took it apart, gave it a deep cleaning and found out that the keyboard was short-circuited. No spills here - just had an old MacBook Pro, circa 2009, needing some help in her old age. Its service battery alert was activated for at least 3 years, and general functionality was slow and sputtery. Dan replaced my battery and replaced my hard drive and memory (I think-- I'm also tech illiterate) for a beyond reasonable price (considering I was thinking about buying a brand new computer due to just not knowing how to fix a vague problem like "slow"). I'm really happy with this service, because even though my Macbook is old, it's now completely functional. Dan, Dan, he's your man, if he can't fix your computer NO ONE CAN! I have a 2011 MacBook Pro, and was having a major issue with starting up my computer and keeping it on. After some internet-sleuthing I found that this is a common problem with this kind of laptop, and the issue most likely was with my logic board or video card. This repair would cost HUNDREDS of dollars at the Apple Store....a devastating expense for me! Plus those Apple repair guys can be kind of snobby, am I right?! Anyhow, I spilled snapple on my macbook air and could not get it to power back on. I brought it in to Technesia and it was fixed within a couple of days for CHEAP. Only problem now is that ever since I got it fixed here I have malware (VERY rare to get on Apple computers especially if you don't torrent, etc.) and I have a sneaking suspicion that this fella installed the malware so he gets a repeat customer even sooner... Every time i click on a link I get taken to a new tab with a warning/ad saying I have malware and should buy this and this and this product ASAP to fix it...Can't say it was 100% him but it is a bit a shady to me and if it weren't for this I'd be giving this service 5/5 stars. read more

Dan was fabulous! He replaced the track pad and slow hard drive on my 2009 Macbook pro, as well as updated the software and cleaned up the system to make it run faster.
