Wow! What a great sandwich!…read more My wife and I visited Pittsburgh for the first time on July 30th, 2026. This is gonna sound crazy, but we stopped in for a sandwich at 9:00 a.m.!!! They've been around since 1933 and when you walk in you can feel the history. The walls are covered with painted caricatures of famous locals. This place is an institution. My wife and I sat at the counter and ordered a roast beef sandwich. All sandwiches come topped with tomatoes, coleslaw, and french fries. Yes, you read that correctly, they pile fresh cut fries onto all their sandwiches! The sandwich was massive and delicious! We are so happy we sought this place out and you will be too! Seek it out!

Sigh, man this place was underwhelming. It's famous, it has a name, it has a reputation. But that…read moreseems to far outpace the quality of the food and service. One employee was VERY nice to my father who has mobility issues and let him sit inside in a chair while we stood in the line to get in, which did move relatively quick. I think 20 people ahead of us, and we were at a table in under 15 min. 5 of us ordered 5 different things, and only one person had an actually 'good' meal. That is not a high % of quality food. The rest were super bland and off the mark flavor wise. Our waitress was also nowhere to be found half the time, we often needed drink refills and she only came over to take our order and that was really it. We had to ask another employee for water and napkins. I just don't 'get' it. The hype is not worth it.

My first restaurant since moving to Pittsburgh! We went on a Friday night and the restaurant was…read morepacked. We waited about an hour for our food which was kind of frustrating but they were absolutely slammed. Our server even brought us a second plate of bread and oil to make up for it (which we appreciated)! The food was worth the wait! Loved heirloom pasta and gnocchi w/ meatballs were delicious as well!! We also got tiramisu for dessert (not pictured) yeah, no. The mascarpone was dense and I believe they used cake instead of the ladyfingers. It genuinely pretty bad and I wouldn't get it again which sucked because tiramisu is my go to dessert (also pretty pricey for the portion we got). At that said, I will be back to try other dishes!

Our waitress, Emily, was wonderful and so kind. The bread was good, but I wish it had been served hot. I also wasn't a huge fan of it sitting directly in the olive oil and vinegar like that. The gnocchi was one of the best I've ever had. The texture was incredible. I also got the short rib pasta, which was just okay. The meat was very tender, but the overall flavors didn't really stand out to me. The portions are definitely huge, though! We also got the Caesar salad, and the dressing was really good, but the shishito peppers were almost soggy, which took away from the dish a bit. Really good spot for a date!

I was a little disappointed my 3 piece dark meat didn't come with a thigh but thats ok. The white cheddar grits were well cooked. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor but that might just be white cheddar. Hubs had the chicken BLT that had a great flavor from the chicken breading and other sauces. The bread was super crispy and perfectly golden brown. Stop by if you're in the area and need a yummy quick meal!

It will tell you it is multiple vendor stalls, central seating. Instead, the first thing I noticed was a barrier to my experience -- a hostess counter. WTH? I politely ask her how this works. Do we walk around or do we get a table? Im confused and she is just as confused by my confusion. Apparently, it is a sit-down, get escorted to a table just like any other full-service restaurant model and with an hour wait to do so on this Picklesburgh Sunday so we did not partake (FYI, we had a great meal with no wait at Nicki's Thai restaurant). So, guys. If you are going to tout this as a beer and food "hall", remember what the concept is. (Um, Faneuil Hall?? In Boston ring a bell?)
