Finding barbers when you move cross country is always challenging and you just have to try till you find the right match. I am happy to have found Brandon M at Commodore! My first visit was all about the consultation - how I wear my hair, products I use, how long I keep my hair etc. Brandon M was patient and provided good feedback on what he thought would be good and professional. Since my first visit I've been back multiple times. Appointments are easy to make on their website and their location at Westside is perfect. You can grab a coffee/snack or a drink before or after just hang around the area. Parking is easy in the garage nearby. The shop is expansive, and at full capacity with over 6 barbers/stylists, and they all do a great job. You have a lot of options to choose from - haircut or haircut and shave etc. and you never feel rushed or forced to buy their products/merchandise. No stress, high quality shop. They have a sitting area to wait your turn and on the weekends you can expect to wait a few minutes (remember you don't want to feel rushed so be courteous to the people before you). Coffee, water and beer is provided to keep you occupied... One shout out to Brandon M - he always makes sure my cut is perfect even though I may want it a certain way - so that it grows back in shape and I don't have all these random strands all over the place. I came a couple months ago and I had High expectations for this barbershop but my experience was HORRIBLE! It's a beautiful barbershop from the outside but the second you step in it smells like weed right away! Also, they play loud techno all day. Am I in a barbershop or a rave? I thought it was suppose to be family friendly music. There were families and older gentlemen in the shop, and they looked uncomfortable with the obnoxious music that was playing. I couldn't even hear myself talk most of the time. The worst part of the haircut was my barber himself. I wanted my son's hair nice for the holidays, so I booked a more advanced haircut. I ended up getting Chris. Right away you smell alcohol and weed from him and looked drunk the whole time! Booked a haircut with Lou. Showed him a clear detailed picture of what I wanted. Asked if he had any questions. He said no. Asked if he was comfortable delivering that. He said yes. 45 minutes go by, not one question asked, he turns me around to a completely different haircut than I asked for. I asked if he could fix it. He refused. I asked if could turn me over to another barber in the shop. He said, "we don't take walk-ins." I asked if he would please work with me to get something I was happy with. He said, "bro, I have another customer waiting." If the first pass wasn't what I wanted and he fixed it, this would be a very different review. This is the worst haircut I have gotten in eight years. The first location in the Chamblee area is beautiful and completely customized inside with incredible decor, but this Westside location is the crème de la crème! Located in the Westside Provisions District, the Commodore Westside has reserved the best possible location to expand their intense vision! West Midtown is booming with growth and is the hippest district in the Metro Atlanta area. Restaurants, bars, night and day life is bustling! Westside Provisions is the most walkable area of Atlanta and not just a place to go get your haircut. There is plenty of free parking on the property with 24 hour security. Before you walk in the door of the shop you can immediately see the attention to detail. As you walk through the breezeway there is a video playing on loop on the interior wall showcasing the Commodore's talented haircuts, beard trims and styling from their professional barbers/hair stylists. Their logo is gilded with copper leaf on the front windows and you see above the front door a custom neon sign. Inside is vibrant with clean lines and meticulous detail with the blueprint of this artwork that emerged from a building structure. Custom wood benches, tables and shelves; euro style expresso machine, free craft beer refrigerator; basketball hoops in the back; sonos stereo moving the energy of the stylists inside; soapstone and maple barber work stations, etc... I just can't say enough to encapsulate the design of this place. Now the most important question: are the haircuts consistent with the shop's aesthetic? I've traveled all over the world and I can promise you that you've never been to a classic men's barbershop like this. I've been getting my hair cut at the Chamblee location since day one and it is incredible seeing the owner's passion unfold into this masterpiece from conception to fruition. Both this location and the Chamblee location have extremely talented barbers that not only give you a good haircut, give you what you asked for, but also help you understand why they do what they do. They look at your hair, look at the growth patterns and determine how to give you the best haircut possible that will grow in well so that you never look bad. Was visiting some other establishments in the area on Wednesday. This shop caught my eye. I walked in with no appointment and joined another gentleman who was waiting. In the time I was waiting, two customers' cuts were completed and transacted. I asked the person I sat next to if they had an appointment, they didn't. After 10+ minutes with no approach or acknowledgment from any staff I decided to move along. Maybe it's just not really a walk-in type of place. If any expectation was set by any member of staff, I would have gladly waited. It just kinda felt like I was unwelcome/unseen. Reminded me of fancy spots in NYC where you have to be in the know to know. Where you have to seek out the instructions and information for a quality experience. Beautiful shop. The owners have a real attention to detail and won't let you leave without a great experience. They have two locations; one in Chamblee and the other in Westside Provisions. Brandon Herrera is my barber and I followed him to the new West Side location and I was even more impressed with the location. He is an expert in fading hair and listening to what you're looking for. I've been going to the Commodore for a couple years now. I've been to both locations and had my hair cut by multiple stylists, and I've never been disappointed. That's right - not once did I walk away thinking "s/he didn't listen" or "s/he did a bad job". I've paid more for much shitty haircuts. Honestly, they could probably charge more and I'd be fine with it. I don't exactly have the best canvas for them to work with since my hairline is receding. Which also makes me picky. I'm not saying they specialize in making balding men look good, but maybe they should. It's not easy. Come for the haircut, stay for the conversation and dope playlists. An amazing experience from start to finish. I have insane, thick, and curly hair that is not easy to cut. Zach took his time to consult, figure out my hair, and gave me a really really great looking cut. I was at the shop well past closing time because of his thoroughness - he did not at all rush to get out of work as you would expect from most employees past closing. I left feeling so impressed with the professionalism, attention to detail, and general atmosphere of the shop. It was clear all of the barbers at the shop are passionate about cutting hair, and being in that environment is really special.
