So I was a very frequent customer at The Codfather on Spruill until it closed. Today I had a real longing for some British fish & chips ... my family & I drove from Mt. Pleasant 33 miles, over an hour drive & it was worth every minute. Outstanding authentic Chippy food..We even took home some Take & Bake Pies... It's clean and oozes charm. The staff are so nice & helpful. Nothing is a problem for them. I noticed they have a very nice long bar, which is fully stocked. Parking a breeze. I had been on the fence about trying this establishment...so glad I did. Definitely try them ... I will definitely do the 33 mile trip again.

Curried chicken pie and chips. Plus a pint of Old Speckled Hen

Got the chicken curry pie and chips, with a pint of old speckled hen. Food, pint and service was excellent. Really like their pies and mine was awesome today.

How can anyone rate this place under 5 stars? Being from Chicago, the name "The CodFather" immediately caught my attention, so I stopped in looking for a simple dinner. I honestly wasn't expecting anything special, but I was absolutely blown away by how good the food was..., and how inexpensive it was for the amount you get. The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and the homemade tartar sauce made it even better. I also had the batter-dipped fries, and they were excellent. Crispy, flavorful, and a perfect match with the fish. The portions are very generous for the price, the service was great, and everything tasted fresh. Great service, great food, and a great price. What more could you ask for? Definitely a 5-star experience. I'll be back

We love the Cod Father!!! We have been several times since they opened the new location in Nexton and it's been awesome every time! Our kids loved the British decor and high top tables. There is a full bar separate from the restaurant with equally cool theming. The service was excellent and the kind people working there answered all of our questions about the ingredients in the meat pies. We ordered several orders of fish and chips and a sausage roll. The fish is so fresh and crispy, the house made tartar sauce is the best I have ever had! The portions are huge and definitely could be shared. The second time we went, we decided to try the Chicken curry pie and it was just as delicious with a flaky, buttery crust and warm and creamy chicken curry yumminess inside! We will definitely be back!

With Codfather selling it's Park Circle location we are fortunate to have Codfather Nexton to still find great fish and chips. The restaurant is roomy and decorated with both English staples and salutes to local first responders. Unlike its originator they cook their fish to order so there may be a slight wait, but it is very much worth it. When I go, I like to order the Tennet's lager which is smooth and crispy and full of flavor. Instead of chips we tried the Manchester Special which are their famous chips with gravy and cheese. The gravy was rich and savory with plenty of ooey gooey cheese. Perfect on a cold winter's day! We tried the Battered Sausage which had a large smokey sausage fried golden brown. It was ok but I wished the sausage was spicier but that's just me. I have never had a Doner Kebob, but I discovered that it is basically a gyro. Now I went with the standard lamb with onions, lettuce, and tomatoes with a feta spread and tzatziki sauce, but you could also order different sauces and toppings. All in all, a pretty decent gyro with lots of meat. Finally, you can't come here and not try the fish. Nicely battered and cooked to a perfect golden brown this filet really hit the spot. We may be losing Park Circle but at least Codfather lives on in the Nexton area!

What more can I say about an awesome place like this! We pretty much go here twice a month and thoroughly enjoy the fish and chips as well as the curry meat pie. Hi always leave happy and full!

Fish and 1/2 Order of Fish N' Chips

I liked the hand breaded freshly prepared fish. Nice crunchy exterior and properly seasoned. The chips were delicious. Service was fast. There is an attached bar area that you can get a drink and eat the food ordered in the restaurant. It has a nice British pub vibe but a bit cramped. I was in a corner high top near the door with a trashcan and broom. Seemed a bit off versus the rest of the area. Bartender was quick with service too.

Half fish and chips w/tartar sauce

WOW! I've heard so much about this place and it took me this long to go. Very lovely set up of the place. Plenty of seating and there's also a bar connected to the restaurant. My friend and I ordered the half fish and chips and man the portion size is HUGE. I can't imagine the regular fish and chips. I couldn't even finish half my food. I love how your order is wrapped in this long paper and given to you kind of like a present. Its super cute! The food was piping hot, freshly made. The fish was crispy and flavorful! The fries were seasoned just right and the tartar sauce was tangy with a hint of sweetness. I loved the whole combination of flavors. I was very pleased!!! The pricing is pretty great too (it's about 9 something for a half fish and chips) overall 10/10!

This was the 1/2 Fish and Chips

I really liked the fish and thought the portion was good for what I wanted (the 1/2 fish and chips) fries were a little dry but not bad. Tartar sauce was great with the fish.

I would change the name because the name suggests they have oysters only and it turns out there is more, not a whole lot but enough for a non oysterholic to come in and have something to eat while you chug an ale or one of the shots with a slimy thing in it I got to try a shot of something that tasted like bloody Mary's mix with an oyster inside, I felt the slimy thing going down the hatch and later ordered a dozen or so oysters Parmesan, cooked taste a little like scallops, not bad and I could go back and try something else The calamari was ok, not as great as I can make them if I had a fryer with a thermostat, the batter was a little too thick and I tend to like them with a see through batter not a filler, it was crunchy ok but maybe a little overcooked and not a lot of people know that calamari should be flash fried for about a minute and if you go beyond that is like the Michelin man The place is fun and be prepared for a loud environment because it is small but go with an open mind and it is a nice different experience I will go back and try their fish and chips

A traditional Shrimp Po-Boy is made with coleslaw and it's expected for places to experiment with the recipe. But when this place says Shrimp Po-Boy, they definitely mean it because you get 6 small shrimp on A LOT of sub bread, some scraps of lettuce and a light seasoning of leftover tomatoes. Due to the restaurants name, I expected the hushpuppies to be a slam dunk yet they were tasteless, burnt outside and raw inside. Lastly the soda area was dirty and smelled like a kindergarten bathroom. It is worth the drive to get AMAZING seafood at Bowens Island Restaurant or just get a better sub at Jersey Mikes for cheaper. Hushpuppies charges too much for its low level of service, quality of food and lack of cleanliness compared to many other average restaurants.

Our experience was excellent, and so was the food. The restaurant was very clean, the prices were fair, and for a fast-casual restaurant, the service was fantastic. What really stood out was that during a lull, the chef--who I suspect may also be the owner or manager--came out to greet customers and check on the quality of their meals. On his way back to the kitchen, he stopped and bussed a table. It was a small thing, but it says a lot. Clearly, this is someone who cares about the business and the customer experience. We'll definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to others. And one last thing: the crab cake sandwich was fantastic!

We were there with our vendor, and the restaurant provided the perfect setting for a productive lunch while still feeling relaxed and enjoyable. Let's start with the ambiance and happy vibes. The restaurant was classy in the best way--beautiful, comfortable, and polished without feeling overly stuffy. It has that upscale steakhouse atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped out for something special, while still being warm and inviting. The service was excellent, and the staff was absolutely wonderful. There were as many as 4 servers assisting in between meals. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and professional without hovering over us. For a business lunch, that balance is important, and they really got it right. And then there was the food! My sweet tea with lemon was excellent and a perfect accompaniment to lunch. Our table enjoyed a variety of dishes, including the vegetable ravioli, the Halls Chophouse lunch cheeseburger, and the Halls Chophouse salad with salmon. I ordered the spinach steak salad, with my steak cooked medium-well, along with strawberries and Gorgonzola cheese. It was delicious! I loved the combination of the savory, succulent steak and Gorgonzola with the sweetness of the strawberries. It was a great choice for lunch--filling without being overly heavy. Of course, I couldn't leave without dessert! I ordered the Crème Brûlée, and it was the perfect way to finish the meal. Creamy, sweet, and a wonderful ending to an already delicious lunch. Overall, Halls Chophouse in Nexton was a fantastic choice for our business lunch. Great food, excellent service, a wonderful staff, beautiful ambiance, and plenty of those happy lunch vibes. It was upscale and classy while still being comfortable enough to enjoy good conversation.
