Clock shops this day in age seem to be harder and harder to find! I inherited a coo coo clock from my grandmother when she passed away and it was working (a bit inconsistently) for about a year before it just up and stopped one day. After a lot of google and yelp searches I landed at this family run business in Brookside. What sold me on them is that they are the same family that restored the clock in Union Station and I figured if the city can trust them with such an important artifact, I can trust them with one of my most prized possessions. When you walk in you know you're in the right place as everywhere you turn there are clocks, and along with them the comforting tick-tock of about a hundred of them trying to keep time in as close of unison as possible. I wasn't there at the turn of the hour but I bet the place just explodes in coo-coos and the deep hum of a ding dong from one of the larger clocks in the shop. When I dropped off my clock I came in and explained what was going on (that it wasn't working) and they said they could fix it but wouldn't know the exact price until once they got going. They quoted me around $100-250 depending on the issue. They also said they were backed up 12 weeks and confirmed I was okay with that. I said I was and left my beloved clock in their possession. They hand you a ticket to help connect you to your clock. In truth as charming as paper tickets are it gave me a little bit of anxiety, what if I lose it!? Do they have my information correct? Fortunately I didn't have to worry as this story has a happy ending. Flash forward about 13 weeks and I called to see if my clock was done, they asked for my ticket and said it was about to be worked on. All in all it was about 16 weeks before my clock was ready for pick up but they did call and when I got there it was just under $100 with tax. Now that it's been up hanging happily in my house for about a week I'm glad to report it sounds better than ever and I haven't had any issues. I'll for sure be back next time it needs a repair! read more

I loved the Clock Shop!!! We called and we're offer a appointment for a house call not even a week later. The gentleman was actually early which was wonderful. The minute he walked in the house he didn't even get close the clock and knew exactly what it was. Took him about 30 minutes to fix and the clock sounds beautiful. It hasn't run in probably 30 years or more and has been moved at least twice. He also had me call the shop as our convex glass piece for less than $30!!!! We were quoted over $200 from a glass shop in Oklahoma!! I would highly recommend them for any of your needs. We plan on going by their actual shop because we have obsessively been looking for an antique or original German cuckoo clock from the Black Forest and he said that they did have those. Great experience with The Clock Shop! We had purchased an antique mantle clock that would not keep time. Took it in for service. Customer service was top-notch. They gave us a quote and a timeline. We called at the due date to pick-up the clock to find that there was more wrong than expected. Not a problem, they would fix it right! They stayed right on budget, kept their promise to return it to us by the (extended) date... totally understandable seeing that they had to do a significant amount of work compared to the original plan. In my grandparents' house there was an old clock from the 1940s that did not work. Fortunately, it seems that everyone thought it was too wonderful a piece to throw away, even if no one was willing to pay for it to be fixed at the time. Still, being an optimist, I brought the clock to the Clock Shop, and miraculously they were able to fix it. It works well and its mechanical chime is a joy. It is important that there exists a place that one can bring a clock in need of repair! read more

We bought a 19th century Junghans clock online and it arrived with a lot of damage. We took it into The Clock Shop who recommend we return to seller for repairs (because it was going to cost us a lot). We sent it back to seller for repairs and when it arrived there were again a few issues. We brought it back to The Clock Shop and they were amazing! I would suggest strongly that you find a different man to work on your clocks. Having charged $120 dollars to have him come out and service my grandfather clock (come to find out this is just oiling the clock) I called him back because the clock was not operating properly. When I suggested I had read about an adjustment in the manual to adjust the ticker, he adamantly said it was self-adjusting and there is nothing more he could do. When I began to describe the procedure from the manual, he cut me off, again said there was nothing more he could do, told me for the third time he's been servicing clocks for 42 years, and get this, he stormed out of my apartment as if he were a young child. Seriously? I would not use this company. read more

After going to another shop and receiving less than ideal service, I brought my family's heirloom mantel clock to The Clock Shop in Kansas City. I'm so glad I did. Beth was efficient and a great communicator. I knew exactly what to expect and when to expect it. It was also very reasonably priced (charged $85 for something the first store told me would cost at least $100). I received my repaired clock in less time than it took the first shop to give me an estimate! Other businesses aside, this place deserves five stars all the way. They also have some beautiful clocks on sale inside that are very reasonably priced as well. Definitely check them out if you're in need of any repairs, or a new clock! read more

Went to the shop years ago and had fond memories of my visits then. Was needing some help with my watch so I went in and they took care of my problem in very little time. I usually don't write reviews, but this needs to be known. Beth charged me $95 to just oil my clock. She said if I ever needed to replace the movement she would credit the $95. She charged my brother a lot less to oil a similar clock. I brought it home and it wouldn't engage the chimes. Took it back to beth. She said she sodered a couple tooth on a wheel and it was chiming. Brought it home and it quit working. Brought it back to beth and she suggested to replace the movement for $395. A week earlier she gave a discount to my brother of $50 on a movement and $10 off a bottle of oil(she did this right in front of me). I asked her for the same discount which she agreed, but did not want to honor the $95 credit I originally paid. She told me to leave and was't going to go lower on the price. BTW - all she would be doing is taking screws out to take the old movement out and screwing screws back in for the new movement. 10 min tops. No integrity, does not honer her word and $95 is unreasonable to just oil a clock. I am a women and she seems to cater to men. She just offered the discounts to my brother(discrimination). A true repairman would clean and repair and oil the clock. read more
