Parkville Jewelers - Incorrect size on hinging bail

Parkville Jewelers

(17 reviews)

This is not an honest business. Use extreme caution when working with the owner, Troy. I was…read moreswindled out of over $1000. Here is my experience, which I have reported to the state government and the BBB with evidence: On 5/20/25 I requested a custom order. I came in person with two items: one opal pendant that was bezel-set in sterling silver and one small 14K yellow gold pendant with three natural diamonds. I requested that the two pieces be combined into one pendant, wherein the opal would be set in the same kind of bezel setting and the diamond pendant would be soldered to the side of the bezel, all in 14K white gold. I also requested a hinging bail so the pendant could fit over a string of pearls. Troy called on 6/2 with an estimate: $175 for the hinging bail, $400 for the bezel setting, and $250 for labor, totaling $825 before taxes. I gave him the go-ahead to begin work, he did not require a deposit. The completed pendant was ready for pickup on 6/16. I was out of town, so my husband picked it up on 6/18. The total charge was $943.20. I was immediately displeased, as Troy did not make the pendant according to my requests. The setting was not a true bezel setting like the previous one in sterling silver had been. The opal had been GLUED to a strip of 14K white gold covering the sides of the opal, there was no backing to the stone. The diamonds had been added on the side in yellow instead of white gold. Additionally, the hinging bail was not wide enough to fit around pearls. I contacted Troy with my complaints via a contact form on his website on 6/19. I received a response via email requesting that we discuss on the phone. We scheduled a time to talk and Troy called on 6/21. I explained my dissatisfaction and requested that he remove the opal from the setting, return the stones and original settings to me, keep the 14K white gold that was used, and refund me for the cost of the materials, a total of $575. He initially refused this agreement, instead offering to remedy the issues and remake the pendant to my satisfaction for ZERO additional cost to me. I held firm in my desire to have the pendant unmade and materials refunded to me and he agreed. After our phone conversation concluded, I sent a follow-up email outlining this arrangement, to which I received no response. My husband dropped the pendant off at Parkville Jewelers again on 7/1. Troy was extremely upset that I was requesting the pendant be unmade and refunded, he asked for the chance to remake the pendant to my satisfaction for no extra cost, as he had offered during our last phone conversation. I considered this and wrote him another email agreeing to it. He called to confirm on 7/2. Troy gave me continued updates on the pendant's creation via text message over the course of the next several months. He sent me two photos of the completed pendant on 9/23 with no other written communication. I did not know that the remade pendant was officially ready for pickup until receiving another text on 10/21 that read "We are letting our customers with pending pick ups know that we will be closed this Saturday for a little vacation. We are open this week through Friday. Thank you!" Because I was traveling for work, I couldn't go in person to pick up the pendant until 12/12. Troy and his wife brought the completed pendant to me for inspection. It was not great, but I was glad that the experience could end, so I thanked them and turned to leave. They stopped me and demanded an extra $350 in payment. I reminded them that the agreement was for the pendant to be remade at no additional cost, but they insisted. I paid $354.49 and left. Troy consistently refused to have anything in writing, demanding that we only speak on the phone. Troy is a swindler who does not deserve your business, and his work is shoddy anyway. The final pendant that I have now does not have a hinging bail, the bezel is crooked and doesn't match the level of the face of the opal, and the prongs on the diamond setting are bent. Stay away from this business.

Another fantastic locally owned business for you to support. They've been a long standing shop in…read morethe parkville area for over 20 years so they must be doing something right. We came here just to get a ring size and ended up buying a new ring. Not once did we feel pressured. They are just a family who wants to inform people of the best value in jewelry. We were very happy with our experience and plan on coming back.

Mission Watch And Jewelry - Owner flipping me off after cussing me out for requesting a refund or additional repair of broken necklace

TLDR: Cheap repairs at best - but the owner followed me out of the store cussing in my face and…read morethreatening to sue me over my requesting a refund or proper repair of a necklace. I have this on video. Initially a great experience, timely and "cheap" repair of a 14k necklace along with a watch battery replacement. Paid $60 for both and went on my way very pleased with the service. Unfortunately, the new jump ring from the replacement clasp snagged and I noticed the chain had disconnected but the engraved pendant had already fallen off into a grassy area. After contacting him know of the incident, he offered to look at the break and see if it could be fixed or refunded as discussed in the attached texts. Upon inspection today, we both agreed it was not NECESSARILY a fault of the repair but I still hoped to have the chain repaired with 14k gold clasp. I mentioned that I had requested this initially and he got angry. I requested a refund again and he handed me the necklace back refusing because "I didn't have a receipt" - despite him asking me to bring it in over text. That is still all fine - uncomfortable and irritating but I was fine with leaving and cutting my losses UNTIL he followed me out of the store calling me a "cheap *****", flipping the middle finger (pictured), and threatening to sue me. For what? I'm not sure. I am a young woman with self-respect and refuse to be screamed at by anyone especially not someone offering ME a service. He only changed his tone and backed away from me once I started recording him - but his grandson or nephew took a photo of my license plate as I got in my car. It felt very violating - I cannot recommend this store for repairs of any kind.

This antique mall is stuffed full of vendors, unique finds, and all of your antique shopping dreams. They have such a fun layout with four floors. You could wander around for hours. If you are coming in with a large bag/purse they will ask you at the door to lock it in one of the lockers. So keep that in mind when stopping by! This is a must especially if you are visiting the city market on a weekend or this area in general. It is easy to get to and such a gem.

My friends and I spent two hours wandering around in here marveling at the sheer absurdity of 90% of the pricing. The booth rental must be astronomical here! Seriously, the prices are so high. You're lucky to find anything small for less than $10. The bigger items? You might as well forget it unless you've got a couple hundreds burning a hole in your pocket. The plus side is that it's a really neat antique mall with tons to look at. It's fun to browse and they have a massive selection! Also! I was scrutinizing everything carefully and as far as I can tell, there is zero AI-generated imagery in here from the booth owners or the antique mall itself! No crappy tumblers or 3D-printed dice towers either. That was very pleasing to find. It's a worthy stop if you're fond of days gone by but don't expect to find bargains here.
