The Cliffy is my go to bar. Accommodates all people, super welcoming, and overall a vibeeeee! There's new owners as of march of this year. Dogs are now welcome 12-7 during the week, and 10-6 during the weekend. Who doesn't love seeing a dog drunk at the bar! LOL. The atmosphere is top notch, there's pool, shuffle board, darts, and other table games. Come see the new drinks and deals. The drinks are stiff up at the Cliff! Who doesn't love the cliff room?! It's a total dark divey bar where all the locals hang out at. Yesssssss we go and over drink and meet a ton of people. It's impossible not to. Everyone is friendly and cool. Especially the bartenders. The beer is iced cold and the ambiance is my jam! It's always my late night stop. read more

Zero stars, came here with some friends & was not only extremely dissatisfied with the bartender's attitude (he was a complete jerk; the brunette one with a ponytail) which I get, maybe it sucks dealing with drunk people... but also maybe don't work in this industry if you can't at least put a smile on? As if that wasn't enough to completely ruin the vibe; he yelled at us for accidentally hitting the light switch for outside as we were taking photos... I ordered a drink, tipped in cash & HE TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO ADD HIS OWN TIP ON MY CREDIT CARD AS WELL. I'll be disputing that as fraud & calling the manager. There's many bars to go to in Santa Barbara. Stay farrrrr away from this one. read more

I only suggest going if you're looking to be treated rudely by the bartender. Aside from the general glare and tone, other complaints include: She claimed to be unfamiliar with a "vodka sour", gave my friend a Malibu coke when she asked for a rum and coke. I wonder if it had something to do with us being young women. She made us two nasty drinks we didn't ask for, and we left before drinking them. The only reason I give 3 stars is because my mom left my dad partly thanks to this bar. Not joking. Thanks. read more

We went to celebrate our friends birthday and the bar was packed! Bennie was working his ass off! We ordered a drink he didn't know - a red headed slut - I told him what was in it and he made one of the best I have ever had and still managed to keep a full bar serviced! After a night going downtown to the usual spots like Sharkeez, The Cliff Room takes the cake. Love the place, get to know the bartender, my first time there he gave me a free shot & a drink. Over the dart board area there are stickers that spell out the following: "Why go downtown?" This message hits home The Cliff Room's appeal. The Cliff Room is effectively the anti-downtown bar that isn't overrun with hipsters (Elsie's). A classic dive bar with good bartending. They accept credit with no minimums...they have not one but two pool tables, and they even have foosball. What's not the love? Important note: The pool tables are among the best in Santa Barbara. Only Don Q would be able to claim nicer tables but that's a dedicated pool hall. (Games are $0.75) This place is great. Plenty of parking in the back. read more

This bar is cozy and clean and well stocked. They have nice seats and a pool table. HOWEVER if you walk into the bar and see a dark curly long haired olderish woman, leave immediately. She was rude and had horrible service - she was bashing me for the French gimlet I ordered. She said that "rose water and lime is disgusting and who would ever want to drink that". What is the point of bashing what a customer wants to drink? I'm sure other bartenders there are nice and have great service, but honestly we left as soon as possible - didn't even finish our drinks. One of my favorite dive bars in town, along the same lines as The Sportsman. Wood paneling, dark lighting, strong drinks, good selection of beers on tap, huge circular booths, dart board. There's not one but TWO pool tables and they're only 50 cents a game. Giant parking lot and a tiny smoking area out back. This is definitely not a downtown SB bar. The clientele is generally older and not very hip-- a mix of hardcore drinkers, sports fans and city college kids, mostly guys, but hey-- it's technically it's a sports bar. I know a few people who won't step foot in there so maybe it has a seedy reputation. Go with a group of friends if you want safety in numbers, but I've been here with a group of other ladies and haven't had any problems. I get the feeling that if this place was in LA it'd be crawling with hipsters. Being located on the Mesa, I'd say it's off the hipster radar. Pretty underrated if you asked me. Definitely check out Monday nights for karaoke night! read more

I really don't mind this place much other than the fact that the bartender Brad is very bad at his job and doesn't care about the customers. I would definitely advise to never go to this place on Thursdays so you can avoid ordering drinks from this prick. What bartender complains out loud to a customer for closing their card instead of keeping it open and then declaring they will start ignoring them? I may stumble across this bar again since I literally live across the street but most of the time I'm going to avoid this place especially when Brad is behind that bar. Just FYI this is a review from 2 years ago. I'm not sure if Brad even works there anymore. Yelp took it down, so I'm re-posting a more G-rated version. read more

Really cool spot! The atmosphere was good. Everyone was really nice. The bartender made some good drinks. It was Clare's bday that day (karaoke lady). She was super sweet. I'm only knocking it down 1 star because the quality of the speaker/Mic for karaoke wasn't that great. Other than that.. cool place to grab good drinks at a reasonable price. read more

This place is such a dive. I'm the type who likes dives, so that works for me. However, I am not terribly fond of the "dives" downtown because they are just not that divey or relaxing. This is the kind of place where 50 year-old women get hit on the same time that my girlfriend (21) and I (24) feel perfectly comfortable. A solid dive, it just needs more business and a bottled Belgian beer(like Duvel or Westmalle Triple) and it would really be great. read more

Hmm... It's a weeknight and I need a drink. I live up on the Mesa and I don't feel like going all the way Downtown. Well, in that case you will probably end up over at a little dive bar called the Cliff Room. It doesn't help that it's within walking distance from my girlfriend's house (As well as quite a few City College and the odd UCSB student) Little dive bar up on the Mesa where I always seem to get too drunk and have a nice little hangover as I sit at my desk at 8am. Darts, pool tables, a little back patio, and one of those new download jukeboxes keep you drinking on thru the night. read more

We were in the hood for dinner and wanted to check this establishment out for an after dinner drink. First impression, upscale dive bar. All the prerequisites are in place: two pool tables, darts, a couple of individual video games on the bar counter and juke box. The clientele were all low key and of mixed age as any good dive bar should be. Add to this $5 house vodka martinis and you really can't go wrong. read more

Having just moved to the Mesa, I was excited to check out the local watering hole. I can only give this place 2 stars because the service was horrible!! There were only a handful of people there and it took me 10 minutes to get noticed and get a drink from the bartender Thursday. She was talking to her friends at one end of the bar and she finally came over, walked right past me, and got on her phone. I was about to leave when the guy next to me called her over. Apparently this is the norm on this girls shift according to the people I spoke to on the patio. If your thirsty, don't go on a Thursday! On a more upbeat note, I'm looking forward to see the changes they are going to make when they remodel. This place could use a facelift and a good cleaning! I will be back! read more

I had only been here a couple of times.....WAY before they hired Wendy as a bartender. Now, I go just to hang out with her. You should too! She is so awesome, and a very good bar tender besides that fact. She brings a light into that place. She even are her boss order a decent Chardonnay so that I would come in more often. I came here for karaoke night out of desperation (I was having serious karaoke withdrawals, and this was the only place in town for karaoke that night), and was... sort of paralyzed by fear, shame, disgust, curiosity, and thirst simultaneously. Ultimately I grew accustomed to the someone-else's-musty-living-room surroundings, and after a few jaeggermeisters, I was all set to sing. Crowd is strange: a rollicking combination of bikers, hessians, and country lads and ladies. The clientele is a bit hard and rough-around-the-edges. Are we still in Santa Barbara? We were told to order at the bar, so while the rest of our party was seated, I stood there for five minutes before someone took my order. Totally fine, but no sorry for the wait or even smile or any warmth from the male bartender, who disappeared for a five minute break shortly after taking my order. The tables at the outdoor seating area were very sticky and since there were no employees in sight I (and the other patrons who arrived then) cleaned the tables ourselves. After waiting 10 minutes I went up to the bar and assumed since our drinks hadn't been delivered, I was supposed to pick them up, I was told don't worry, we'll bring them to you, and after another five minutes, our drinks arrived. The cocktails were decent, nothing revolutionary but I am spoiled in this department, well made but nothing to get excited about . After 30 minutes of enjoying the genuinely nice outdoor area we ordered another round, three shots took another 10+ minutes. When we realized we had to leave to make our reservation, we asked for a box for our untouched food, and we were told we don't have boxes. They ended up finding one for For us, but it appeared to be a pastry box from somewhere else. The female bartender who took over after the male clocked out, was much more personable, but not much more efficient. To their credit, this bar has an excellent selection of tequilas and Mezcal's, so if you're not in a rush and you enjoy those spirits it's definitely worth stopping by. The music was really great and was definitely the highlight of that bar.

I lived on the mesa for many years while attending college and working late nights. We would call the Cliff Room the "Office" and would go here to shoot pool and enjoy a couple rounds of Boilermakers. Now after the remodel it's really clean and less of the nonsense that happens at dive bars. read more
