I went into the store that has a lounge in the back and bought a punch for my cigar. Because I didn't buy the cigar there, even though I bought a cigar there recently, they wouldn't let me use the lounge. This arbitrary rule will keep me from ever going into the store again because I won't always be satisfied with its limited supply of over priced cigars. Because I cannot use the lounge for one cigar, it will lose business for all future purchases doesn't make sense in this current limited economy. My brother in law and I decided to take the time to come here for the first time Saturday (8/12) arriving at 4:39 pm. We were excited to try this place out as we normally go to a local one in the east bay. Great selection of brands that we typically look for and the prices were reasonable. While there my brother in law decided to call his battle buddy for some suggestions as there were some cigars we wanted to try. While we're trying to figure out which cigars to buy, the gentleman working that day had approached us and demanded us to buy something as according to him we were in there for "an half hour." He proceeded to ask what we were looking for to which my BIL responded that we're trying to figure out which cigar to buy and if it's an issue that we've been looking for particular cigar. The gentleman then proceeded to say "we have lots of cigars just buy one" in a rude manner. It honestly made us very uncomfortable and unwelcome as our first experience. After the encounter we promptly agreed to leave without purchasing anything only 15 minutes after our arrival at 4:54 pm. We really wanted to give our business there but not with someone who is going to speak to customer's like that. Maybe in the near future we'll return, until then it really left a sour taste in our mouth for our first time there. read more

Allow me to start with I love Cigars :D This place is fantastic! It'll be my new place to stop by to get my smoke on when I'm in the Tri Valley Area. The manager, Russ, is extremely knowledgeable and I had a great conversation on cigars that I didn't have an idea about, the different kinda of wrappers, fillers and locations of growers. My brother and I spent an hour in the store looking at all of the different pipes, cigars, humidors and tabac that was out for display. The prices of the cigars remind me of Cigar Warehouse here in LA, with a competitive selection with many new items, such as the Alec Bradley's and the new Patel Bros. Both of which are great! Thanks Russ! The location is good, there's lots of parking and it's near other food and liquor place so if you want you can eat then smoke, or vice a versa. The interior has a lounge area, it's not as rustic or warm as some of the others I've seen like The Big Easy or Tobacco Hut, but a large screen TV, mini kitchen and 4 large comfy leather seats make it for a relaxing place to smoke and watch the game. Nothing negative to say about the place, except for this is a cigar smokers cigar shop, where you buy what you like, not what you read about. I've never felt so unwelcomed by a retail establishment. And after reading other Yelp reviews, it seems as though I'm not the only woman who has felt this way. I've actually been in here three times. The first time was with my boyfriend at the time while he was buying pipe tobacco; that time was just fine. The second time was when I stopped by after work (alone) to buy my boyfriend pipe tobacco. When I walked in, I almost wondered as if they had never seen a female before. And from what they had heard about women, they didn't like. No one greeted me or asked if I needed help with anything. It wasn't until I stood in front of all the loose-tobacco containers for about two minutes until someone finally asked if they could help me with something. When I said yes, the man helping me seem bothered. I paid and left. The last time I was at Mission Pipe was when I wanted to buy my dad a few cigars for his birthday. Again, I walked in and immediately felt unwelcomed. After looking at the cigars for about FIVE MINUTES, someone finally asked if they could be of any help. I told the guy my budget and that I wanted to get two or three cigars. He was borderline helpful (hence the two stars instead of only one). I paid and left, except this time I will not return under any circumstances. This place seems to just not like women. The guy I've encountered twice comes across as some elitist sexist asshole who shouldn't be working in a customer service oriented business. Why are you going to make me feel unwelcomed when I'm willingly coming into your store to buy something from you? This should be called 'woman haters club' run by Spanky and the gang! I stopped in here to look into getting an inexpensive pipe for my husband. We had some pipe tobacco and needed a pipe to try it out. Clearly we are not smokers and so some instruction was needed. Despite the strip mall atmosphere outside, the interior is Luxe. The smoking lounge in the back was very comfortable. But it was most certainly a 'men only' lounge. The smoking lounge is well ventilated, I couldn't smell anything but the rich scent of unsmoked tobacco. Too bad they couldn't ventilate the nasty attitude coming from men INSIDE the lounge. Note to married ladies, if want to know what your man most likely thinks of you? It's that we talk too much and can't keep our answers to a grunt or one word answers. What a downer for whoever is married to the jerks inside the lounge. As a woman, it takes some guts (that are located below the bikini line) to walk into this type of establishment. But, I did it! I met this Associate named Todd. He was the typical sort of counter sales man, and truly not interested in talking to a woman. But, he warmed up once he figured it out that I wasn't leaving without the goods! Todd became more helpful, and he certainly knew his stuff. But he suggested I go to you tube for instruction. Again, I stood there and asked questions, which he answered. I did go to you tube later and all the instruction Todd gave was exactly as what I found on the YouTube. As I was getting ready to get purchases together to leave either the manager or the owner asked me if I 'needed anything' which is nice but I gotta say it was with the exact same 'lady you aren't in the right place, move along' sort of attitude I got from Todd when I first entered. Large selection of fine cigars and definitely has a cigar club atmosphere so it can be a bit intimidating if you're not an aficionado. All their cigars are clearly marked but if you don't know your way around the cigar world (like me) it all looks the same. So does it mean if its more expensive it means its a better smoke? Customer service was not the greatest and they guy really only rang me up. I just picked what I've heard friends tell me what was good. One of my buddies brought me here, and I have to say, that it's a great little shop! This place is a tobacco aficionado's dream come true! The room is lined with cigar cases of all types, and they also have a pipe tobacco section as well. Tobacco pipes, cigar cutters, lighters, humidors, and other tobacco paraphernalia are all for sale as well. You can smoke your cigars in the store, and they have a couple of chairs by the front windows for relaxation. They also have a small den in the back with leather chairs and a flat screen tv, as well as a fridge for your beverages. I hear that during football season they have NFL redzone back there! Just one word of warning/advice. I heard that if you drop your cigar in the back room, then you have to buy a round of cigars for everyone back there! Fantastic selection of cigars. OK prices. Smoking room is small but can usually find a seat. Regulars there are friendly. Some staff are great, very knowledgeable and helpful. Others not so much. DON'T TRUST THEIR WEBSITE! They have events listed there that are NOT happening. Went there today for a Joya event. Guy at the counter didn't know anything about it when I asked and sarcastically said "we never have events on weekends ". I guess part my fault for not calling first. Cool place, but think twice before buying anything here. They are two to three times as expensive as anywhere else! I looked up the price of what I bought at online retailers like cigar international, and Mission Pipe Shop sold me a lighter for $23 and that exact item costs $8.99 at two online retailers, and I won't go into detail about the other stuff. Unfortunately I just got a load of cigars in and my humidor was not getting to the humidity I needed so I dropped by here. I misplaced my beloved Vector lighter so had to buy a new one. Should have stuck with matches....lol. Aside from price, the sense of tension I got when I walked like 'who is this guy' came over me. I am not a newbie to cigars and know my way around them and humidors. It just felt one of the gentlemen behind the counter expected a newbie question. He was a little condescending, but when I asked about hygrometers and the Xikar Wireless hygrometer system, that changed. I agree with some folks, that if your green to the cigar business, you may not get treated the same as someone who know the leaf. I don't believe its the whole staff. Still it feels practically criminal how much they mark everything up....and some items they carry are crap I could get at Target for a fraction of the price. read more

Excellent place and service. I went in planning to get my hubby a humidor for Christmas. I ended up walking out not having spent a dime but a whole lot smarter about cigar smoking in general. The helpful gentleman wanted to make sure that my husband was ready for a humidor and not just cause I wanted to give it to him. He asked me questions...basically it would have been easier for him to have just sold me one but as a true enthusiast, he was more interested that my cigar smoker was ready for that step. So...I am with Jason W, my visits to mission pipe have been friendly and very educational. I have dropped in to buy some cigars before a party and was able to get great tasting cigars and had the option to spend whatever my budget might be. Mission has a wide selection of different priced cigars. If you are looking for high end hard to find cigars this is your place. I am not super knowledgeable but the staff at Mission Pipe is and they always seem to find what I am looking for based on my somewhat vague request. I tell them I want "smooth" " burns well" BUT "no expensive"cigar BAM they give me just what I wanted. Or I tell them I want to impress my good friend who is a cigar aficionado and BAM they get me just what I need. I also had the opportunity to attend an event on a Thursday evening a while back, it featured Diamond Crown Cigars. WOW it was great, food, lots of friendly people, and those Diamond Crown Cigars are something else! I cannot buy them all the time but when Mission Pipe has a sale take advantage. Diamond Crowns are not offered at just any cigar shop form what learned during my visit. Anyway just wanted give Mission Pipe some props the staff are in fact friendly and the selection is second to none. We go to Mission Pipe on a regular basis for our cigar habit. The staff has always been very helpful and knowledgeable. The vendor events are always well attended and fun. The store is always clean and well stocked. Nice lounge in the back as noted by everyone. I have experienced a bit of attitude a couple of times, as I will admit to being rather new to the cigar experience, and still learning. But, for the most part, I have had good experiences with the guys. And, even the patrons are nice to chat with. read more

Too bad some of you had bad experiences. Mine was entirely different. The shop employees seemed very nice, but then again, I knew what I was looking for, so i didn't really need any help. What I do know is, this shop carries an excellent selection of cigars. Where I had a tough time finding Padron 1926 Anniversary and Oliva V Series cigars, Mission had plenty to go around. Also, their prices are the best I've seen in the Bay Area so far. I don't know if the rent is less in Pleasanton or something, but somehow every stick was less than any South Bay shop. Online is still the best deal, but if you must buy from a B&M shop, go here. The small smoking lounge in the back of the store features several comfortable chairs a loveseat and a flat-screen TV. Water and sodas are available in the fridge for a quarter. read more

This place is great; they have an amazing selection and decent lounge. FINALLY the old manager is gone; this guy was a sourpuss downer that had nothing good to say about anything, he complained about the other workers and the owners. On multiple occasions I tried to engage him in conversion while hanging out in the lounge and he always seemed to busy even though all I ever saw him do what stand in the front of the store and smoke. The younger guys that work there were always much friendlier and the new manager is great. A cigar shop/lounge is supposed to be a place where you can get away for a few hours and enjoy a smoke with some friendly conversion, now I feel like I can do this at Mission, not to mention, the selection is the best in the East Bay. I say wow at the past reviews because I had the best customer service experience at Mission Pipe Shop. I walked in to buy a Pipe, as I am starting to enjoy pipe smoking, andI admit I don't know much about it. I enjoy the taste of pipe tobacco and bought my first pipe a month ago, it was a cheap pipe, and I knew I needed something better as well as better quality tobacco. Well, they were beyond helpful in helping me choose a pipe and not only that, the dude spent 45 minutes of his time giving me advice on how to smoke out of a pipe (properly), take care of it, and in general the basics of pipe smoking. I bought a fairly expensive pipe and I respect that they took their time to give advice on pipe smoking so that I can enjoy this pipe for years to come. Who does that anymore? You mean you actually care about your customers and spend the time to ensure they are educated and provided your expert advice and knowledge? WOW! One star is too much. I was with my girl-friend having some ice cream next door talking about our respective boyfriend/husband. We walked by the Mission Pipe shop and on a whim, I thought I'd get my BF (who is a very occasional smoker) a cigar. My friend, who has been smoking cigars all her life and comes from a cigar smoking family, and I went into the shop. The guy there is a condescending ass. I went to the counter and explained that my BF is an occasional cigar smoker and I'd like to get him a cigar, what does he (the worker) recommend. The guy working there literally wouldn't recommend anything. All he could tell me was that there was nothing he would like, he (the worker) was the expert and he knew best, that anything I purchased would not work for my BF. I kept asking for a recommendation and he kept telling me (basically) that he couldn't recommend anything because he was too busy telling me there wasn't anything my boyfriend would like. I was so irritated, I thought "I'm not leaving here without purchasing something from this jackass...who doesn't want to sell me anything". So, I started to say "I'd like to buy something" rather than "what can you recommend"...and then he recommended a cigar, with the preface that my BF might not like it. I said, well, if he doesn't she will (pointing to my friend...who LOVES strong cigars". His response, "she'll die if she smokes this cigar unless she smokes every day like I do". Frick-you you jack ass. I ended up with a cigar for my BF and I bought the same thing for my friend who said it looked interesting. In the end, this guy is a JERK. I'll never go there again. P.S. I went to Mission Pipe Shop because I needed a gift for my boss. A friend recommended I go there but I had no knowledge of cigars. Thankfully, the staff was very friendly. A young guy (Greg?) helped me. I told him how much I wanted to spend and he helped set up a package for me that included a couple of cigars, a lighter, and a leather case. Horrible customer service! The selection is regular for a cigar lounge, no rare or hard to find cigars here. I did not read the reviews beforehand or I would not have gone. They were very standoffish and unhelpful. Although I didn't need any assistance picking regular cigars out, when questioning the staff about hard to find items they acted like they didn't want to be bothered and hoped my husband and I would hurry up and leave. He wanted to stay and smoke a cigar I told him not only were we not staying ... we're never coming back. If it wasn't hubby's birthday we wouldn't have even given them a dime of our money.
