I ordered the fish and chips. The fish had a nice coating but was a little bland. The fries were very good. The prices were decent for the amount of food we received. Note: go to the bar to get drinks before you order your food - it seems to speed things up! There was also live music, which was very entertaining. There was a nice vibe in the place, and a lot of people were dancing. The service - another story. Many people come to bars to take their time and hang out, but my friend and I were tired after a long day at Asbury Park and wanted to enjoy our food and drinks and leave. Once we sat down (which you do yourself), we were deciding on what to eat and our waitress never ended up coming. 15 minutes later, my friend got her attention and we ordered. After eating our food, our waitress was nowhere to be found. We eventually saw her and asked for the check, which also took a while to receive. My friend was charged for a drink that she paid for in cash at the bar, so we had to track down our waitress once again to make this correction. She was very nice about it, but ultimately she never apologized at all. Quintessential bar food with a nod toward more up scale dinning without coming off pretentious. The wings were great along with their take on fried pickles called "frickles". The burger was probably my first great burger I've had in Monmouth County since moving down here. The fish tacos were awesome, though I think a quick shot of cabbage would have been nice for contrasting texture. Staff was great. We were a family of 3 (of which included a 2 year old) which is probably not something they were normally accustom to dealing with as the place seems to be geared towards adults and the drinking crowd, but they were awesome and treated us like any other patron. Some places pretend to be "low brow" because that's the hip thing to be, but it's disingenuous. Chubby Pickle is a beer/shot joint that is honest about what they are; a great place to hang with friends, have a few drinks and eat some pretty great food. Highly recommended. read more

Saw this place on yelp and the menu sounded good so we went to check it out. We got there around 7PM, walked in the door and there were a few (older) people at the bar (maybe 4?) but it was otherwise empty. The bartender took our drink order and then asked if we wanted to know the specials. When we said "Yes" she turned around and pointed to a chalkboard handing above the bar. Thanks!? She left us with two menus and walked over to her smartphone and messed around for a bit, then left the bar, came back with cordless phone and proceeded to talk on that for a bit. My favorite bar. I am a local regular. Bartenders are great, they know my drink order - slightly dirty Tito's martini before switching to Pinot Grigio. Makes me feel special LOL. I am there most Wednesdays for trivia night, which has a decent local following, mostly the same teams every week. As for food, appetizers are the way to go. Fried pickles are AMAZING. In my opinion, the food is not great, the drinks are consistently watered down, the service consistently slow and unorganized, and the atmosphere in not nearly nice or unique enough for me to want to put up with the above. The pickle could be something great with not much more effort on the part of the bartenders and servers. But until then, I don't recommend it. read more

I went here last night for some food and drinks and I was so beyond content. It is a cute joint with a bunch of high top tables and a bar. Lots of TVs and a juke box so that you can pick your tunes! The menu is simple and has great bar food. I even loved how they had some lighter fare for people who are watching their waistlines. I decided to have the grilled chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. I was super impressed by the presentation of the dish and the it had two nice pieces of chicken on a brioche bun. The sweet potato fries were crispy and super fluffy on the inside. The waitstaff were great and totally knowledgeable with their drink choices. I was into whiskey last night, so my waiter helped us figure out what we wanted. I definitely will be back again. I don't know if I would go JUST for the food because it doesn't really come off like a restaurant and then a bar. It's definitely a bar and then a restaurant. Either way, good stuff! :) read more

Love coming here. Friday nights are country night although last Friday night, the "country" band wasn't great. Besides the band, the music isn't too loud and they have plenty of TV's to catch all of the sporting events. Always a good selection of beers- I'm a fan of cider and they have always had one either bottled or on tap when I've visited. Had the potato skins a few weeks ago- just what I was looking for- delish! I probably wouldn't come here just for dinner... I ordered a beer that was not commonly ordered and was invited to have open discussion with the waitstaff about my opinion on it. It was wing night so we tried 3 types of wings. My husband and I come here often in the spring & summer. They have great food & a large selection of beer. They will even let you sample the IPA's before you commit to a whole pint - LOL! Friendly staff - very friendly & pleasant to talk to & will give you an honest opinion about the food. Speaking of the food, the CP Tater Tots, Beer Battered Onion Rings, & the Jumbo Chubby Wings are really good. Margarita was amazing..... Heard great reviews about the burger. Went on a Sunday so think the Wednesday $5 burger might be better. Bun was great but burger meat was old so it could not be cooked the way we asked. My friend ordered the 50/50 burger (half bacon half sirloin) but definitely did not have bacon in it.
