Angie is our waitress today at Chubby Mullet Bar and Grill and while I tried earnestly to coax a smile from her, I failed miserably in my efforts. Despite her downcast disposition, I ponied up a 30% tip as she was on point. I put in an order for the Inlet Tacos with Mahi-Mahi and a Patty Melt. Awaiting Angie's return with our fare, we relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful views. One has to nod to the location, not that it matters in the review, but it is gorgeous down here. Before too long, Angie brought our order and after taking a few pictures, I settled into the job at hand. The Inlet Tacos are served in warmed tortillas filled with cabbage, manchego cheese, pico de gallo and a special house sauce. While I found the fish slightly above average, the special sauce is the highlight. It was complex and flavorful on the palate. The resulting piquancy was a delightful surprise to my taste buds and outweighed the average-tasting fish. The beans were tasty, though they lacked a "wow" factor to garner any special mention. It's all about the sauce. Moving on to the Patty Melt. This is the reason for the 1/2 Star that pushed this over the bar of average. The burger was cooked to perfection, juicy and agreeably seasoned. The accompanying side of fries, without doubt of the frozen variety, were deep fried to a model golden brown while keeping a tender inside. Whoever was slinging the slop today was on point. The Big Boy says, "There is nothing wrong here and while the views are spectacular, the food was only slightly above average and there is much better similar fare and views less than a mile away." read more

I'm not sure where all the great reviews came from, and it was the reason we decided to make the drive over to give this place a try. Extremely disappointed in the service and the food. We sat outside to enjoy the relaxing view of the Indian River, though there were trash cans placed about 20 feet from the outdoor tables where the waitresses emptied the trash from the food tables. We each ordered a beer which took 20 minutes to be delivered to our table. It was not terribly busy, and there was no reason given for the lengthy delay. It was definitely not the coldest beer in town as another reviewer mentioned. It took our waitress another 15 or 20 minutes to come back to take our food orders. Food came another 30 minutes after that. Both the fried cod and mahi were rubbery tasting. The coleslaw was dry and bland. It's pretty bad when the best thing in front of you are the french fries which came out of a frozen bag. On their website draft beers are advertised for $2 during happy hour from 3pm to 7pm. When we received our bill, we were charged $2.25 a beer. When we questioned it, the waitress said that whoever does the upkeep on the website information must not be doing their job. She did not honor the $2 price that they currently have posted. Of course, the most amazing thing of all is that The Chubby Mullet doesn't serve mullet.... at all! Marking this spot off our list. This is a hidden jewel of a place! The small, rustic restaurant is located in a marina (just north of Sabastian) overlooking the river. Super friendly staff and awesome laid back atmosphere with 70's music softly playing over the speakers. We fell in love with this place immediately. The meals we ordered were absolutely delicious and oh so fresh! The fried calamari was tender with a crispy coating. The fried cod was astonishingly good. So fresh and perfectly fried and served with their house made tarter sauce. The coleslaw was crunchy and the vinegar dressing was perfect. The Manhattan Clam chowder was so good, it felt like a perfect comfort food. We enjoyed this place so much that we made a point to return again on our way back from our travels. read more

Prices are very reasonable. The clam chowder was really good, as was my husbands chubby Mullet cod basket. Fries were also good. Happy hour offered beer and wine at $3.50 each. Wow... My first impression was in getting pleasantly surprised. Don't let the outside appearance of the marina stop u from visiting. It's an indoor, air conditioned restaurant with a view of the water. The service was impressive. The menu has both seafood and land lubber selections. I ordered the fresh catch... A Mahi reuben. We stopped in to enjoy the Sunday Special of Prime Rib, this was also our first time here. Grabbed a seat, had a couple of beers, all while waiting for the bartender To take your order. She was friendly and casual, but not very attentive to her job. We ordered 2 King sized Prime Rib dinners and were very excited! 30 mins later our food arrived- the Prime rib was not the King portion we paid for, instead they gave us the incorrect portion (Queen) - the meat was also overdone, we asked for Rare and both received medium well at best, we brought this to Elizabeth's attention, instead of taking the food back, she turns the lights off at the restaurant off as the "chef" told her that artificial light can alter the way the food looks. At this point, all the other patrons are also in darkness. The prime rib tasted well seasoned. But it was not what we paid for. I also asked for ranch dressing that was never brought to our table. After dinner, I ordered a piece of Key Line Pie- this was delicious!! It took another 20 mins to arrive and I had to ask 2x about its whereabouts as they seem to have forgotten I was a paying customer. I even asked her to cancel it when I realized that they had forgotten about it. But she stressed that it was about to come out, and sure enough it came out about 2 mins later. In the end we paid for Everything we ate, we're not even offered much as a good will gesture for the now ,$64 and then $75 with tip, meal being incorrect and inefficient. The place is very clean, cute and has a good view of the Indian River. I was personally entertained with the storing and moving of the boats at the marina. We ordered clam strips with fries, my husband had iced tea, it was a bit watered down. Our little waitress was very preoccupied with her phone calls. She was dashing all over the place, something about picking up her child from school. Our food finally arrived and was hot and very good. It was the red plastic basket with clam strips and so I thought lots of fries on the strips. Turns out there weren't many clam strips underneath but just enough food for me, which meant my husband would not get full. It was a bit pricey for the amount of food we were served. Perhaps some of the WORST food I've had anywhere-especially for a riverfront venue Husbands burger was like a hockey puck, my shrimp tacos were completely tasteles-and NO toppings at all-no lettuce or cabbage, no salsa, no avocado, NOTHING, and no seasoning on the shrimp. Plus, they advertised black beans and rice as a side-got mushy overcooked red beans instead. When I asked the "bartender" about it ( and use the term loosely as they only serve beer and wine ) - she looked at me cluelessly and said "yeh, they look kinda dry"- nothing about that they clearly weren't black beans. Now, I don't mind substitution, but let it be known. We have never returned, and never will. It doesn't take much to put out decent "fresh" food- and you don't need a chef to do it. There was boats on a dry dock and a big pickup truck looking right at me. Idk where the food came from. They may have cooked it on the truck engine for all I can tell. Bathrooms? Yeah, just walk outside of the restaurant and two doors down, right next door they have a bathroom. Really? A restaurant without a bathroom? The service was real good at first. Then it was like we were forgot about. We never got a refill on our cokes. We even put the empty glasses at the end of our table so that she would see then empty. But hey! They have crushed ice which is great, I like crushed ice! The place looks nice and it was very clean. The art on the walls is pretty good. They have done a great job at making this place look nice and friendly inside. The food was I guess ok. My wife got the salmon club which was pretty good. It was nice and large. You could taste the lemon in it. Even the bacon was nice and thick and also tasted like lemon salmon. I got the fried conch sandwich. Out in Palm Bay and looking for a nice seafood spot by the water. I came across this place on Yelp of course and decided to give it a try. We walked in with masks and our waiter chose to wear one as well to serve us which was nice. They made us aware that they implemented an automatic 17% service tip, which I thought was fair. Ended up getting the stuffed clams which were different and the flavor was good. Also got the fish fry special, both mahi mahi and cod which were breaded and seasoned perfectly. Only down point was that there wasn't any outside seating to enjoy the inter-coastal water views and have more social distancing. They also had nice happy hour specials Good experience overall. Sooo glad we stopped here instead!! Our server, Robin had only been there for a couple of months but she was awesome. She stayed calm & helpful even though some of the frequent customers were giving her a hard time about their bill. Our food was delish! I had the half chicken and half ribs plate and hubby had a mahi sandwich. Everything was cooked perfectly and did not have one complaint. I think the manager on duty-Heather? was doing the cooking.
