There isn't a single thing I could complain about at The Chop House. We enjoyed drinks, appetizers, steaks, desserts, and espresso, and every single item was excellent. My wife is usually very particular about how her steak is cooked, but The Chop House got it exactly right. Even though our server was quite busy, she was attentive throughout the evening and never left us waiting. We had an incredible time celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary here. Walking in, the hostess was extremely sweet and welcoming. Our service team was just as gracious. I have not experienced this level of service in a very long time. Perfection! My martini was exactly what I had in mind. I wanted a citrus martini extra cold. Our server shook the shaker at the table and asked if it was cold enough for me. It had a little squeeze of fresh lemon that has me thinking about its perfection still. Our dinners were more than delicious. Layers of flavor, executed with precision, surprised and delighted us. My steak was cooked to the perfect temperature. My friend's salmon Oscar was incredible. The potatoes were gooey good. We commented on the tasty dinner rolls and the server sent us home with a few. Make sure to notice the delivery of your entrees. Two servers arrived, raised the plates above our heads, and made a toast with the tap of our plates together, before placing them in front of us. This place is amazing. Great steaks but don't sleep on the seafood here. Dover sole (either way they prepare it) is outstanding. The grouper is excellent, their queso shell fish is great. The wine list is great as well. The staff is second to none. They run a top quality business. It is not cheap, if you are looking for a cheap steak go to Ponderosa. First time here and on my birthday and it was a real treat! I've never been inside and realized how deep it goes! We were brought to a dim lit area downstairs and the vibe felt moody and romantic. Right away we were greeted and got water and some drinks ordered and they brought us some bread and butter to eat while we picked out what we wanted for dinner. I already had decided on trying the Beef Wellington because I've always been curious about that dish and had never been anywhere fancy enough to serve it. Since this restaurant serves items à la carte we decided on two sides: we ordered the brussel sprouts and the au gratin potatoes. Both were unbelievably good! The brussel sprouts had Dijon mustard and bacon lardons which made the sprouts shine and the au gratin potatoes were rich and cheesy and I loved them! My Beef Wellington really exceeded my expectations! They mentioned with it having a puff pastry the steak could only be cooked medium rare to prevent the pastry from burning which I am completely fine with. The puff pastry and the filet were so good together especially with the Cabernet demi glaze that came with it. The flavors really complimented each other so well I finished this and was super satisfied! I also want to mention I've never been to a restaurant that plated everyone at the same time. It felt very fancy and special and was awesome to see all around us. My water glass was never empty either! The servers were obviously very well trained and so helpful. For dessert we ordered the peanut butter tart and that was so yummy! They drew a happy birthday message for me which always makes me feel special no matter what age I am. We went to Michigan this past weekend for a little getaway, but unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate. Thankfully, we decided to spend our evening at The Chop House, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we arrived, the experience was exceptional. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful throughout the evening. A special thank you to Andrew, who took such wonderful care of us and made the entire dining experience feel seamless and welcoming. The food was outstanding -- from the steaks to the lobster, every dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. One detail that especially stood out was the team's willingness to accommodate our request for Oyster Rockefeller, even though it was not on the menu. As someone who does not eat meat but occasionally enjoys seafood, that level of hospitality truly meant a lot. My daughter and her boyfriend surprised me for my birthday and it was so amazing!!! From the moment we walked on to the moment we left, we were pampered and taken care of. Everything done at the Chop House is done with intention and with care and it's just amazing. Their house salad with the dried cherries and the creamy goat cheese. The appetizer of lobster and crab cake was one of the best crabcakes I've had outside of Baltimore. The entrées were amazing and the desserts - oh my goodness!!! I'm actually still dreaming about the Tres Leches carrot cake!! I could eat that carrot cake three or four times a week. It was so much like pudding on the inside and you had to break through the wonderful caramelized outside. My only suggestion would be maybe lightening the cream cheese frosting for it (maybe throw some mascarpone in) because it's such an amazing, warm puddingy, delightful dessert. The same goes for the Crème Brûlée- torch it just a bit more to get that 'crack' to break through to the creamy custard underneath. The only things that seemed not to the high standards of the rest of the meal. The staff and service is so polished, ALL plates are set down in front of each guest AT THE SAME TIME. For visit 2/5/2026. A colleague and I walked over from our hotel. We had reservations and we were immediately seated. Service was excellent! Our server checked in regularly and was very nice and helpful. I tried the chef's special, filet mignon and lobster tail. It was cooked to perfection. I wish I had remembered to grab a pic! First things first. We had made our reservation 3 weeks in advance and received a confirmation and reminders. Upon arrival we checked in and the hostess didn't say a word to us, just told the other girl where to seat us. Right next to the waitress/waiter stand. Our waiter was nice and informative. I love a good steak, so I was really excited to get over to The Chop House. I made reservations for my girlfriend and I on new year's eve. The service was incredible, and while I do love the ambiance, we were seated right next to the food service door which was a bit annoying. The server asked if I minded a butterflied filet as the cut was a bit thicker and I agreed, which was my mistake, but I don't think that should have been offered given the result. The steak was overdone (I like my filet medium) and a bit dry. The sides I ordered included a baked potato and brussels. They were decent, but the price was insane for such basic sides. We came here for the first time on a Wednesday night before going to a show at the Devos Center. The location is convenient downtown, although you will probably need to park in a garage nearby. The interior is an "old house" feel to me, but in a good way - dark wood, wine bottles on the wall, open ceilings, 2 stories, but not too "outdated" either. I was told they are known for their martinis and old fashioned's - I got an espresso martini. We shared the 36oz porterhouse steak and the "Fresh de Mer" seafood entree with the brussels sprouts as a side. The seafood dish was a little smaller in portion than expected, but it was OK since we ordered the larger steak. The steak was cooked perfectly medium, which was recommended over medium rare since it's a large on-the-bone steak. Honestly, the brussels sprouts were too "mustardy" for me with the sauce, but cooked perfectly and the bacon bits were so good and the largest bacon bits I've seen. It also comes with free, house-made brazilian cheese bread which is my favorite and was SO good. I could've eaten 3 more if I wanted to. Three of us had various cuts of steak - all thee reported that they steaks were tender, moist, and flavorful. The four person had twin South African Lobster tails and unfortunately reported that they were dry, tough, and not flavorful. We were able to get a reservation the same day on a weekend, which was surprising. It was decently busy inside so I would still recommend making one. Service was good but felt a little bit pushy. We started with oysters, which tasted great but I do feel that serving them in a dish with 80% melted ice is a bit below this kind of restaurant. For an entree, I tried the beef Wellington, cooked medium rare. It was cooked perfectly and the taste was great. I did get slightly turned off by the duck liver pate. I definitely prefer a Wellington with a veggie like mushrooms. The side of macaroni and cheese was great. It was served in a cast iron pan. It was perfectly creamy and cheesy but the crispy bread crumb provided it with the perfect combination. For dessert, I shared an affogato and tres leches carrot cake with my husband. The affogato was absolutely delicious- espresso was smooth, ice cream a good vanilla flavor and some crunchy toppings. The tres leches cake was so good my husband asked for it as a birthday cake - so I guess that is a high rating! Overall I felt like the food was fine, but I don't plan on returning. Our server was really sweet and brought out a candle in a raspberry with "happy birthday" written in chocolate for my brother in-laws birthday. For the prices, I would say this is for special occasions only. We had leftovers and when we got home to unbox it, the sauces that came with the steaks didn't seem to make it into the to-go boxes. It's definitely not in-expensive, but one of those memorable meals that you can say you've eaten. We had an early reservation starting at 4:30, and although we were told we'd have to be out by 7:00, when I made the reservation, we weren't rushed at all. Best steaks we've ever had. I had the 8 oz. filet and my husband had the New York Strip, half salads, and we shared the lobster Gnocchi. My martini was vodka, double dirty-shaken and poured at the table. This is one of the nicer restaurants in Grand Rapids. I have been to my fair share of nice steak houses. I would not say this is the best one but I would put it in the top 3. I would highly recommend reservations. We had a 6:15pm time and were seated promptly to a nice booth. It felt very comfortable and cozy. The restaurant is dimly lit to create a nice ambience. The menus are digital tablets and easy to use. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Now ... the food. We skipped an appetizer because I knew I had to try a dessert. (They make the desserts "in-house".) I started with the Chopped BLT Salad. It was a very basic salad with a nice blue cheese dressing. My husband and I both ordered the NY strip, but his was dry-aged and mine was not. Big difference in our steaks. His steak was near perfection. Mine ... unfortunately was a little tough and chewy. I ate about half of it. The whole time I was thinking that I should have ordered a fish dish instead. It was the sides and desserts that impressed me the most. The mushrooms were so buttery and delicious. My favorite part was the carrot cake at the end. So, if I came back, I would 100% get a dry aged steak and probably try one of the soups. I have been here twice and it's been less than par. If I'm going to pay $$$$ for a dinner I expect the best. I got a lobster bisque that was more bisque than lobster, then a Cesarsald that was bland, my entire was a 15 oz fillet that I ordered medium rare. It was more rare than anything. Seasoning was on point! Then my side was a loaded backed potato that looked like my grandson cooked. I've given this a chance twice I. My adenovirus here. Never again! I wish they gave more of them because it was delightful. For my appetizer, I had the lobster bisque. It was very thick and luxurious with the concentrated lobster flavor. I had a ginger soda and it was refreshing. We ordered a bunch of sides: The Creamed Corn - I love their version and would order it again. The next two sides I would not order again. We did not like the calamari because it was a bit too sweet and the Brussels sprouts were not cooked in high heat like I like. The sprouts were more sauteed, which I do not care for. The Lobster Tail - Beautiful presentation and very juicy. The Cowboy Steak - Bone-in ribeye perfectly medium rare. I real treat to have a proper medium rare. Delicious. For dessert, we went for the creme brulee. I was full by this time, but it was really good as well. If you're in Grand Rapids, the Chop House is a great place to have a decadent meal.
