What in the name of teriyaki sadness is this? Ok... I want to be fair and full disclosure. We ordered 2 things, white rice and teriyaki beef. The pros: the white rice and the staff were good. The con: Who in their right minds serves 5 beef teriyaki sticks that have less meat than one normal teriyaki beef from any other place. But seriously.... each stick looks like a sad worm that's been starved. We come up here often and can say that we will probably not be trying anything else in fear that it might resemble their teriyaki beef. read more

Awful!! This used to be a fairly OK Chinese restaurant, but it has gone downhill very badly. Dinner there was terrible. The hot & sour soup had almost no solids and was just hot with no flavor. In our travels, we stopped for something different other than McDonald's, Burger King, etc. So, we chose take-out from China Chef. Worst choice ever made! I ordered Pork Fried Rice, Lobster Sauce, Chicken Fingers and Fried Shrimp. My wife ordered the Chicken Lo Mein. We had some ways to go before we got to our hotel, so we didn't get to look at everything and discover that they had the gall to sell us Pork Fried Rice that must've been at least a day old, Lobster Sauce that looked like (sorry to be so blunt) the contents of a backed up toilet bowl and the Lo Mein also looked a day or two old. The only edibles were the obviously recently fried Chicken Fingers & Shrimp. Even the Fortune Cookies were old. We threw away the Rice and Lo Mein. Because we had to be on the road early morning, I didn't drive back there to get my money refunded. I wouldn't serve that shit to my worst enemy. I really wanted to like this place but their food is just meh. My son wanted Chinese so I ordered white rice, chicken wings and chicken and noodle soup for takeout. The chicken wings were not crispy or flavorful. The chicken noodle soup wasn't flavorful either and the noodles were a little mushy. The white rice was fine. There were a lot of customers inside the restaurant when I went to pick up my order so maybe the food is better if we eat in?? It was MLK Day weekend so Conway was reasonably busy but this restaurant didn't have enough staff. One cook and one poor woman answering the phone. I waited almost an hour to get the food and it was hot but truly not the best Chinese Food. Pretty greasy and bland. That said, our order was accurate and the food was hot so ymmv. read more

Do not eat here. The quality of the food was poor quality. Our egg roll tasted several days old. The rice had no pork in it and was this horrible brown color. The consistency of the chow mein was watery the same as the chicken with broccoli. read more

Ordered a pork fried rice, boneless spareribs and chicken wings, a lunch special #11. The two chicken wings were as expected, as were the seven mini boneless spare ribs and two beef teriyaki. The "pork fried rice" was 100% white rice w/soy sauce poured on for color. Absolutely zero spring onions, carrots, broccoli, yellow onions, egg, bean sprouts, veggies, or pork. What cheapskates! One of the two restaurants that I've ever walked out. If you rec'd what was attempted to be served on me, and eat it, then you must think McD's serves steak. read more

This is my go-to for Chinese in the valley (with Peking as a close second, as I grew up with it). But there is something about the food at China Chef that makes it come out on top. It just seems as if the ingredients, especially vegetables, seem more crisp and fresh. I also feel that it's a bit less greasy than the competition. The service has always been kind and prompt. And the prices are average, what you'd expect in my opinion. I have come with my family and eaten in the dining room, as well as with friends and sat at the bar. The owner has always been welcoming and friendly, and I have never had any complaints about my food... not in presentation, taste, quality not quantity. As far as I'm concerned, this is THE place to get Chinese food... and scorpion bowls. read more

I am not from this area. My family and I were searching for a place to order food from. Well I wish like hell that I read the reviews before I ordered from this place. My husband ordered the general gau's chicken dinner combo that literally came with 4 small pieces of chicken. I ordered the chicken finger dinner plate with plans to share them with my 2 kids who eat like birds. This came with 4 chicken fingers which I was expecting, however they were approximately 2.5 inches long by .5 inches wide. We couldn't help but get a good laugh at how pathetic our meals looked. They had NO flavor to them. My meal also came with chicken wings that tasted like they were cooked in a food dehydrator. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT order from this place! 1 star is too high of a rating for this place. read more

Full disclosure, went once last year xmas eve, and it was very fair. Today, not so much. My brother said he feels sick, and the poo poo platter was beyond terrible. I don't write many reviews unless I feel wronged. Either 1. This place got sold to someone else (and that's why it sucks), or 2. They completely could give a shit less and are not consistent. Mediocre greasy food. Horrible business. Got seated in an empty restaurant right away and were told to put in our food as quickly as possible as they were busy. We put in our drinks and an appetizer as we were seated. We ordered our main course about 5 minutes after being seated. Over 45 minutes later, we still had no appetizer but had already long finished our drinks. After asking our waiter a couple of times what the delay was, we asked to speak to the manager. The manager/owner came over and told us we needed to be patient because they had a lot of take out orders. I don't know what type of restaurant runs on giving priority to take out orders vs. customers who are dining in and paying your valued staff their tips. Absolutely horrific. The only reason we stopped by here was because it was open after 9 PM and we weren't very far from this location. The other low ratings on Yelp are justified as the quality of food is poor. We ordered shrimp fried rice, chicken with cashew, and chicken with pineapples. Shrimp fried rice was great, but the other two were meh. There was no spice in the food. Last time I ate here at China Chef was back in 2008 and since my go to place in town has changed I wanted to give them another try. After a long ride to the notch on Conway Scenic, a scorpion bowl was calling my name. We were seated right away, ordered our drink and it came out fairly quick. The Scorpion Bowl was on point, so we ended up getting 2 :-D. The dinner plates came out within reasonable time as well and the food seemed like it has gotten better then it was in the past. Their fried rice is surprisingly good and I really like their crab rangoon. Our waitress was a nice girl and the prices on everything are so affordable for a nice dinner. Next time, we'll stop somewhere else. The portions were small, which is a good thing considering the food was bad. But wait, there's more! Our waiter didn't check in on us at all, unless he was bringing us food. When he did visit, we were left wondering if our dietary restrictions information (nothing drastic, just no nuts/sesame, no MSG) had made it to the kitchen. The last straw, however, was when an extra charge appeared on our check for a substitution, a charge not listed on the menu. The manager was very nice about it and immediately rewrote our check without any fuss. Nonetheless, we both felt very unwell on the way home, and for hours afterward. Portions are smaller than average Chinese Restaurants but taste was good. Don't think about sharing get your own plate, you'll stay hungry. There is no free refill for soda and you don't get extra napkins unless you ask for it...I rather spend 7.75 on a Combination Platter than at KFC... Average Chineese food. I ordered the General Tzao's dinner combo and a soda to go. It came to $12.00 even. It came with crab rangoon and I asked if I could substitute an egg roll for it but was told it would be expensive to do so. The man behind the counter was very friendly and conversational otherwise. The order consisted of 5 fairly large pieces of tender chicken batter fried in a spicy sauce, a few florets of broccoli, a crab rangoon and some fairly uninspired fried rice. There was containers of hot mustard (with a great hot kick) and a very thin duck-type sauce. I usually can only eat half an order of General Tzao's takeout but I polished this off. As mention by others portions are small, but even more disappointing is the taste of the food, ugh. Even the duck sauce tastes awful. Gen gaus had too much breading, Mongolian beef was sparse with beef and overloaded with too many onions. Spring rolls were awful, even the chicken fingers sucked. Do yourself a favor and order pizza from elvios much better and cheaper! Should have realized there was a problem when I went to pick up the place was deserted at 8 on a school vacation week. HO IS THE MAN! My girlfriend and I went here every night of our vacation for our date night. We were served at the bar by HO! This man is extremely friendly and has a great way about him. We got to know him and his restaurant over the week we were in town. Very friendly. The last night my son joined us for dinner and he couldn't have been nicer. The food is hands down the best Chinese food in North Conway. The prices are fair but overall the entire experience was great.
