It was a Wonton's Chinese food sort of day. Plenty of left overs. Always pleasant staff and the food is amazing

    Scorpion bowl.

Service was excellent, the scorpion bowl was tantalizing and refreshing. The chicken fingers were the star of the show, light, crispy, hot and absolutely perfect with their hot mustard. The beef teriyaki was tender, flavorful, moist and executed perfectly. The boneless spare ribs were excellent. The pork fried rice was fresh, hot, filled with onions, pork and scrambled eggs, I loved it. Pro tip: Bring a DD and have 2 of the scorpion bowls... you can thank me later.

Interesting place, very casual atmosphere. We waited a while to be seated, then we waited a while for service, but they were busy. When she did come around, she took the entire order, drinks and food, without writing a single thing down, and came through like a champ. We got the Seven Lakes Spicy Specialty, which is a dish for 2 people, it's Mongolian beef, general tao's chicken and Szechuan pork. It comes with white rice, or pfr for an upcharge. It was really good, I lived the chicken but I think the pork was my favorite. All really well seasoned and fresh. Everything we tried from our friends plates was really good too - the eggrolls we're the typical variety that I like, and the boneless spareribs were good too. There's also a great drink selection. Looking forward to going back to try different menu items.

However, the service is spotty and the wait for food is ridiculous. This time, we had a 6:00 pm reservation. We ordered our appetizer and main course at the same time. The main courses also include a salad. I ordered a coke zero and my husband wanted a regular coke. This is the third time that he wanted one and they've been out of regular coke. How the heck do run out of coke... especially since they don't serve alcohol. We finally got our appetizer, the lumpia, which by the way is delicious, 45 minutes later. The salad finally came out 20 minutes later. We asked the waiter about the main course. He said he checked with the kitchen and they said in five minutes. 15 minutes later still waiting. Looking around we noticed that almost every table is dealing with the same issue. Honestly as much as I love the food...I doubt we will be back.

But our hostesses was very friendly and accommodating. We started with sushi appetizers with my wife choosing the avocado salmon roll and I picked the chefs sampler along with a cup of egg drop soup. All were excellent and the soup was maybe the best I've ever had! For our main dishes my wife picked cashew chicken and I picked red curry chicken at medium heat. Both were not quite up to the appetizers. Her dish was loaded with green peppers (not her favorite) and seemed short of cashews. My curry was very spicy (not really medium) but tasty. I had to add some duck sauce to calm it down to make it easier to handle. All in all we liked Easern Paradise we just have to find a quiet time to enjoy them again. And skip the curry!

An excellent third stop on our impromptu culinary tour of Portland, and our party grew from two to four. I had the Shanghai cowboy cocktail, the bourbon hits, and you can definitely taste the mint more than the guava. All the foods in order of my preference, this was a tough list to rank because everything had great flavor and came out hot!! Lobster rangoon: yes, I would love to have another order of these! Great flavor, nice crisp wonton, just a wonderful rangoon experience! Pork pot stickers: mmm, love me some pot stickers, and these lived up to my expectations, great flavor and texture! Sa cha chicken skewers: so very tender, great flavor, would gladly eat again! Garlic meatball skewers: good flavor, nice dipping sauce, happy we added these to our selection. Shanghai soup dumplings: in general a fun food item, great flavor and they were highly recommended by the everyone who suggested we eat here. Mongolian beef: the beef had great flavor, the broccoli was cooked properly, not mushy, the onions were well caramelized; delicious! Har gow: good flavor, nice steamed dumplings, glad we tried them! Peking duck buns: my friend was in love with these, it was good, but not something I was immediately obsessed with. More than enough food for the three of us adults! Seriously, unless you've been living under a rock in New Hampshire, blissfully unaware of the world beyond Hampton Beach, you might think this establishment is a hidden treasure. Spoiler alert: it's not. It's a dump! Do yourself a favor and steer clear! **Atmosphere/Cleanliness:** Picture this--walking into Shanghai and feeling like you've just stepped onto the set of a horror movie. The carpets are so dirty they could qualify for their own reality show, and the walls look like they've been auditioning for a grime-themed art exhibit. The stains on the carpet? Those are just the remnants of long-forgotten furniture. And don't even get me started on the restroom! The urinal was a charming shade of yellowish-brown that I can only assume was a tribute to the local wildlife. If the front of the house looks like this, I can only imagine the back--probably a scene straight out of a dystopian novel about a third-world country. **Service:** Now, let's chat about the service, or as I like to call it, the "Please Don't Make Me Cry" experience at Shanghai. I took a seat at the bar, ordered a drink, and it arrived faster than my hopes and dreams shattered upon seeing the decor. But when I tried to order food, I was informed the computer was down. Really? Are we in the Stone Age? You can't write my order down and run it to the kitchen? It's called taking an order, not launching a SpaceX mission! **Food/Drink:** The one drink I had was decent, but I was so turned off by the dumpster fire surrounding me that I lost my appetite faster than a kid who finds out broccoli is on the menu. I was tempted to order food based on this "great" reputation I'd heard about Shanghai, but honestly, I think the universe did me a solid by preventing me from subjecting myself to whatever culinary catastrophe was lurking in that kitchen. For those of us true New Englanders who know better about our Chinese food, this place is an affront to the taste buds. **Cost:** I paid about $10 for my drink, which is fair if you're in the mood to be mildly disappointed. **Will I be back?** Oh, hell no! Shanghai should be shut down and condemned. I'd be mortified to admit I even stepped foot in here, let alone work here. Maybe it's a paradise for the low-class granite staters who think Canobie Lake is on par with Disney World, but for those of us who've experienced the culinary wonders beyond our borders, this place is an embarrassment. Avoid it like the plague!
