My five stars are for the establishment - but as my followers know this is about the chicken sandwich. Great cocktails, very friendly staff. This place shares a kitchen with Juke next door so they are KNOWN for their chicken. The good: flavors were a great mix. I got the spicy chicken option - the heat wasn't too bad and offered me a mild scalp sweat. Well balanced heat. The bun was also dynamite. Great structural integrity and it held together the sandwich well. The chicken (THIGH) was perfectly fried. No notes there. The not so good: the spicy option means it's kinda smothered in the spicy chili - which I assumed to be a spicy chili flavoring not like an actual sauce. That really threw the texture equilibrium off for the whole sandwich. You couldn't feel the crunch of the breading or the slaw and was just kinda a mess. 7.1/10 for the spicy chicken sandwich. I am certain that that the regular would be spectacular but the overall texture of the spicy one really was a disappointment. Definitely get the ranch, very tasty. read more

A crazy find when I was in Vancouver for a few days. Tucked at a corner of an average street corner of the Chinatown. No fancy decor for a cocktail bar but fancy drinks that elevate your evening. I started with Forest Moon (Ketal One, Woods Amaro Chiaro, Mastic Infusion, Grapefruit, Sea Buckthorn oil), then stuck at Medusa Strategy (Shinobu Peated Pure Malt, Torres 10 Brandy,El Gobernador Pisco, Amontillado, Tawny Port). Great drinks, great chicken, great value. A lively bar attached to Juke Fried Chicken. Fun decor and neon set up the scene. Servers were friendly and on point with recommendations. Went here for a pre-cinema drink and snack which turned into a full meal. The happy hour beer came with two large pieces of fried chicken - very good un-Vancouver like value at $7.50. We followed it up with 10 chicken nuggets - they come regular or spicy. We went for the spicy, which is reasonably mild heat wise with a wonderful tajin tang. Honey mustard dip was divine. Fries were great. Coleslaw was good, though could have been a bit creamier to my taste. Great place to go for happy hour. read more

If you want Juke's chicken and to dine in, then Chickadee Room next door is your spot. In addition to serving Juke's they have a lot of different cocktails. Fried chicken (spicy): I had assumed the chicken was marinated in a spice mixture but it came out in a sauce. The chicken wasn't super spicy and had a good crunch on it too. All dressed fries: These fries are topped with a lot of things but pickles were one of them! Nuggets: My favorite from the order. Went there on a Tuesday evening to catch up with some friends and they had a lot of tables available. They have a small dine-in space but the vibe of the place is quiet nice, very upbeat and a good place to get some after work cocktails + fried chicken. We asked for a table for 5 people but the table they gave us was probably only good for 4 people. They do have a bar table that can fit a bigger group but I would say if you are looking to go with a larger group, this place might be a squeeze. Their cocktails were really good! I wasn't drinking that day so I asked them if they had any non-alcoholic drinks, they said that they could make few of their cocktails without the booze so I did that and it was pretty nice! I got the mint cocktail which was really refreshing :) their drink menu is bigger than their food menu. For food I got their famous chicken and waffles and really loved it!! I got it with extra spicy sauce and jalapenos. The fried chicken itself was spicy as well. Compared to the usual chicken and waffles, these were much better because it had more flavour. My friends also got their wings, brussel sprouts, sandwiches, and salad. Everything was pretty good but the salad was not the best. This is more of a fried chicken place. Solid place for cocktails, plus comfort food from Juke Fried Chicken next door is really great too! Chinatown has a lot of hipster places now, and Chickadee captures that essence, yet feels very down to earth at the same time. Maybe it's the time that I've been going at (coincidentally my last two trips were on a Sunday night), but the service is undeniably stellar. There's an ease to the way everyone works here that's hard to find elsewhere. The comfortable atmosphere is half the reason I want to keep coming back. The other is the truly remarkable drink menu. Chickadee is super creative without being excessively showy about it. Check out their features and you'll see! If you visit this month and want my recommendation, it'd be the "quinine brigada" - licor 43 (vanilla liqueur), lemon, tonic, and coffee dalgona. I've been into more bitter cocktails lately, so the dalgona satisfied that craving, while the lemon and tonic spoke to the classic g&t I love. Met some friends here the other night and was quite impressed with this intimate lounge! The place is small but has an uptown vibe, with exposed brick, neon, a few booths and some smaller tables. There were two guys working here when I visited, and both were awesome. They knew the food and cocktail menus inside out. I asked for a cocktail that wasn't gin based and more on the sweet side. They brought me out this drink that was unbelievably delicious - one of the best cocktails I ever had. No exaggeration. I had two of them! Everyone in my party loved their drinks. All were so so good. Food-wise, they get their food from Juke next door. The food menu is pretty small but they can make you some dishes to order that aren't on the menu. My friends had fried chicken and waffles, and various chicken sandwiches, and all these dishes looked and smelled incredible. My friends loved them. Unfortunately, I ordered a salad. It was $15 so I thought it would be...special, in some way, with some sort of protein in it, or some nicer vegetables or cheese (beets? Goat cheese crumbles? Something). But it was SO plain, consisting mostly of chopped lettuce, some radish and red onion slices, a few halved cherry tomatoes, a sprinkling of seeds on the top, and a few pieces of cubed orange cheddar cheese. Very very basic and, although fresh and decently portioned, not worth $15 IMO. To top it off, it was presented in a disposable circular cardboard container (like for take-out. Not even on a plate, despite us all dining in). Next time I'll stick to the chicken or rib food options. This place is great for cocktails, and for limited - but excellent - fried chicken dishes. With its intimate seating and dim lighting, it'd be a great date night place. read more

Amazing ambience and atmosphere, great food, delicious drinks and very friendly staff! Kudos to a place that can make an amazing mocktail on the fly. Wanted to mod one of their featured cocktails, and they're like, "We can't do that, but we can make you something amazing." And rather than bring me out a tired Shirley Temple, I got this magical elixir. I must admit, I'm surprised that the Chinatown area can have such good food experiences. The fried chicken is of the batter + cornflakes type. Crunchy with a kick. Also, it's been a while since I've gotten cornbread that went the savory route, which was happiness and nostalgia for me. I'm kind of reluctant to give a review so I can keep this place a bit of a hidden gem for a little longer. Their bartenders are seriously talented. They obviously love what they do, they want people to love their drinks, and they are allergic to just letting people have another manhattan. There is a boggling amount of variety on their drink menu, and each one of their drinks is something they designed in-house. I trust these bartenders so much that I almost always ask them to just make me whatever they want ("Dealer's Choice"). This is my favourite bar in Vancouver. Food is served by the Juke kitchen next door. You need to eat Juke chicken in the restaurant or when it's freshly served. That spicy sauce is SO good but can get your fried chicken soggy when cold. 12/10 would come here again! On a whim, we decided to meet some of our mates from Australia and do a trip to Vancouver! We were actually waiting for a table at the restaurant across the street, and decided to stop in for some drinks and light snacks. Natasha was the main bartender, and she was the absolute best! She made our drinks with style, and was super personable (all the other employees there were wonderful as well)! I had a moscow mule, as well as one of their signature drinks- a pineapple and vodka drink with mint (it was amazing). We also had some popcorn chicken, as well as the fries. Loving this pop up cocktail bar, they are a social distancing bar! I love how you can view the menu and order on your phone. My fav is the create your own or dealers choice which was fun. I said I liked Amaretto, sour and Smokey and they made a delicious creation that might just be my new fav! Only downfall was that although we had a reso, there was a time limit of 1 hour that we were not aware of, so we ordered food from Juke next door and had to take it to go by the time it was ready. read more

If "pretentious hipster douche" was incarnated in bar form, this is what you'd get. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh because the ambience is cool and the drinks look great, but the customer service was not. If you're a hot dressed up girl or a suspender wearing moustache waxed hipster, expect to get treated well. If you're just an average bloke looking for a quick no nonsense drink, steer clear. I told em I was just looking to get loaded on my way to a show. They took their sweet fking time even tho there were barely any customers. I've worked in service for years and if a customer sits down at the bar and says they are en route to a show, take the hint and get them a quick drink. Majority of staff stood around while one guy tried to do everything himself (and made a big show of it too, must be what happens when all your customers are obsessed with instagram) 30 minutes later, all my time wasted, I had one piddly little weak ass drink in me and was 20 bucks poorer. Rogers arena would have been cheaper. Server failed to mention the specials and was totally unwilling to help me get the strong drink I clearly communicated to him I needed. My friend is better at speaking "pretentious douche" than I and had the sense to use the term "spirit forward" which the server seemed to respond to in a more helpful way. I know that a lot of vancouverites really enjoy this overpriced pretentious bullshit but it just wasn't for me. If you spend lots of money on your physical appearance, went to art school, and have a rich daddy, please, take my seat, this place was built for you. I'll be over at the shameful tiki paying a reasonable amount for a VERY strong drink in a more relaxed atmosphere; and it'll take about 5 minutes to get it to me even with a packed house. read more
