Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the building, the upstairs seating area is only accessible by stairs. Quaint, charming café that serves lunchtime treats, coffee, and pastries. The hot cocoa is divine! I really like the literary/"dark academia" vibes and decor, as well as the many cute birdie knick-knacks roosting about the space. Service was friendly and unrushed, I felt free to linger and enjoy at my leisure. I will make it a point to stop in here whenever I pass through Port Huron! I dropped in during the week and there was zero-wait for a table, although I imagine the place probably bustles on weekends!

It's a cute place with a cool theme and is likely great for neighborhood folks who have their regular orders and stop in since it's close. Cons: I felt the place could have used a detailed cleaning. They brought out my friend's salad with *completely brown/gray avocado* on it. And when I say completely gray, I mean completely. Why it left the kitchen and made it to the table is a mystery. We addressed it with the server. Server was nice, but seemed perhaps not as informed about details of menu and drinks. I ordered the peanut butter mocha, but tasted no PB at all. I drank it all - it wasn't that big of a deal, but I agree with other reviews; iced coffee drinks are a touch weak. Pros: Staff was friendly. Cozy atmosphere. Nice size menu. Rest of what we all ordered was good.

The hostess was rude, and when we were seated, there were straws, wrappers, and spilled liquid underneath our table. No one offered to clean it, and after being sat, no one came to our table for over 20 minutes. When our waiter finally arrived- without greeting or introducing himself he just asked "has anyone been with you yet?" *mind you he had been in the section tending to TWO other tables the whole time we were there*. We ordered drinks (an old fashioned and a mocktail), along with cheese curds for an appetizer and a steak and burger for dinner. Our drinks didn't come out for another 15 minutes. When the waiter brought them, I asked if he could put all of our food in at once if he didn't already. He stated he already had because the kitchen was backed up. After that, we never saw him again. Meanwhile, the couple seated right before us received their drinks, meals, and even dessert. Another table was served three appetizers during the time we sat there waiting. Our table was available after being on a waitlist of 35 minutes at 7:11pm and by 8:30pm we still had not received ANY of our food or seen our waiter again. We left money on the table to cover our drinks and left. To make matters worse, the table next to us remained dirty the entire time we were there, and an 8-top nearby sat covered in dishes the whole evening. Where was the manager? The owner? There was no one walking around apologizing for long wait times, no communication, and absolutely no effort to offer compensation or make things right. I have worked in hospitality in years and the way this night was handled was absolutely careless. I have given this establishment MANY changes, and this was the last straw. An absolute 0/10 experience. This was supposed to be a special Valentine's night out for us, and instead it was frustrating and disappointing. I will not be returning to Freighters, and I will be sharing this experience with others so they don't waste their special occasions the way we did.

By my local standards, Bridges would rate closer to 3.5 stars. However, the excellent service that I received from both here and the hotel (and almost without exception - see below), is sometimes worth the round up. Our audit group ate here twice, both times on a Sunday evening for fellowship and planning out the upcoming week. I enjoyed the menu choices (especially the french onion soup) and their somewhat limited selection of Canadian wine. The dining room itself was spacious and comfortable and I thought that the table service was friendly, engaging, and prompt. At one point, they even provided free munchies for our meeting room that we needed before dinner. The only exception regarding service was in the lounge. The server was a little short with us in general and unsuccessfully tried to "deputise" me when one of my Canadian colleagues left the lounge area along with his drink. I'd like to think that for her, it was just a "one off". I kindly waived her off and gave her a good tip anyway.

A gargantuan rack of beef, melt-in-your-mouth tender inside, perfectly roasted to black crispness outside, with a rich wine demi-glace sauce and side. (I picked the serviceable home potato salad.) I will daydream about this dish for weeks to come. At $18, it blows away the sad, basic, tender but tasteless $25 BBQ pork ribs I had the night before at the nearby "... Bay Grill & Bar" joint rated 2.5/5 stars. If you're in the mood for a hefty, deeply satisfying plate of roasted meat, skip the BBQ joint and, oddly enough, head for the chain-hotel restaurant.

This is a cozy, no-frills place with quite a few booths (that are comfy!) and a high ornate roof. I…read morelike that the tables were not cluttered close together and so it would be a great, not-too-noisy place for conversation and working. However, some of the booth seats seemed a little old and torn, and the window area by the booth seemed a little dusty, like it could be neatened up more often. Other than that, we really liked this place though. First, the service was warm and excellent. The staff were great at answering questions about the menu and giving recommendations. Next, the chocolate butter tart was excellent! There are two options of butter tarts (a particularly Canadian treat), a plain one and a chocolate one. Having consulted a server, they highly recommended the chocolate butter tart for chocolate-lovers. The tart sides were delicious, and similar in texture to an egg tart. The inside was gooey and almost like chocolate sauce with a rich buttery base. The inside sauce really reminded me of a Chinese bun we love in Singapore, the liu sha bao or salted egg yolk custard bun. All in all, I highly recommend the chocolate tart for a small but punchy pop of decadence, and it goes perfect to complement with a cup of coffee. Other than that, the peppermint latte was wonderfully decorated according to my peppermint-loving friend (although another said it was definitely on the sweet side). Meanwhile, although my plain latte did not have the best latte art, staff proactively offered to add a variety of powdered toppings (cinnamon, cocoa and nutmeg) that put a smile to my face. All in all, it's a great place to chill and relax if you're not too fussy about everything being perfectly spic and span. As I said to my friends, sipping my coffee with my chocolate butter tart, "this is the life!"
