We havd come to Dr.Heaslet for the past 18 years or so through thick and thin with all our pets. She has been totally knowledgeable in all aspects of animal health care..and is currently treating our dog who has diabetes, who is now doing very well. She is respectful and compassionate with our dogs,(and us) and they walk into the office with tails wagging, loving all staff members and the doctor..You can't ask for more than that.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Annette Heaslet and her team at the Cheerful Vet. I have been using Dr. Heaslet for vet services since she opened her first clinic in Ashland 20 years ago, and was the first vet to offer truly holistic services, including acupuncture. She was my Dachshund's vet since she was a puppy and now cares for our rescue Lhasa Apso and rescue Siamese cats. Over the past 20 years she has continued to develop her practice, always staying on the cutting edge of holistic veterinary medicine, and offering the best natural pet foods at prices that even beat online stores. Their office visit price is $45, which is in line with other vets in town. I love that Dr. Heaslet knows that feeding your cats things like "Friskies" is likely going to make them sick over time, and that clay litters are likely to cause respiratory issues. If people feel criticized by that kind of information, there are plenty of conventional vets in town who you will feel more comfortable with. But if you want the best information actually based on science, then Dr. Heaslet is who you want to see. But the very best thing about Dr. Heaslet and her team is the truly caring, friendly attitude they maintain with their patients and patients' owners. I don't know how they are able to do that day in and day out over so many years, but they do it every time. It is obvious that Dr. Heaslet and her staff truly love what they do, and they really go above and beyond to give the highest level of care. Bottom line - The Cheerful Vet is the best vet in Southern Oregon, and I say that with 20 years of experience.

I brought my dog in thinking he was really sick. He ended up being totally fine, however my bill was still around 400$. Not affordable!

She started drinking excessively, urinating in the house, shedding and panting excessively. Dr. Winters tested her for everything possible and he was so nice through all of that while being aware of the cost. All test have come back good and now we are on to internal medicine to see if they can help. Dr. Winters has been great through this very frustrating process. My other dogs have seen the other vet Dr. Wheeler and she is also amazing especially with my very anxious dog. Our most recent visit was unplanned and I felt it was emergent. I loaded my fur baby into the car and headed straight to the office. I was expecting the worst case scenario, but hoping for the best. Dakota (Front Desk Coordinator/ Miracle Worker) has been consistently kind, compassionate and always upbeat and welcoming over the years. This visit was no different. Dakota is very calming and compassionate. Even though it was an extremely busy day of surgeries and scheduled appointments, Dakota managed to plea on our behalf and was able to fit us in for a "drop off appointment" for just $70 (NOTE: This is extremely generous considering the circumstances; about the same a the cost of an annual exam). I agreed to the necessary x-rays and signed off on the quoted range for what was the best case scenerio: Two x-rays + the medication/procedure to induce vomiting (I recall it being a range of $323-$520 something) *fingers crossed* Even with such a tight schedule, Dr. Glenn Winters himself called me within ~1hr and told me the "good news". My pup did not swallow an object as I suspected, but rather had a case of "Dog colitis". l had to look it up. Dr. Winters is very confident that they only needed to take a single x-ray and my pup needed 2 medications to soothe the inflammation of his bowels; I was able to pick him up and take him home right away. I was hopeful, yet skeptical that the severe symptoms (sudden blood coming out of rear, some vomiting, no eating for 24hrs, becoming lethargic) were so easily diagnosed. Dr. Winters did not require blood work, no extensive lab panel(s), no overnight fees, no extra fee-fee, very straight forward. The final bill was MUCH LESS than originally estimated. He was exactly right on the diagnosis. Damn, this Dr. has a real gift when it comes to animals. This place Under promises and OVER DELIVERS each and every time. 10/10. 5-stars for Yelp, but when a place is consistently 5-stars, you just hafta give them proper credit. I picked my pup up right away, I brought him home and force fed him his 2 pills and watched him like a hawk for the rest of the day. There has been an almost immediate improvement in his condition after administering the 1st doses. Wow, just wow. Thank goodness for Dr. Winters, I honestly don't know what I'd do without his EXPERTISE :D

Dr. Davies does a great job of explaining the procedure and what is to be expected after the surgery. Since we have been through this once already we were ready for what was to take place. Every thing is going well. We are a week into the healing process and so far our dog is doing well. The medication is a tremendous help. She seems to be more comfortable than we expected and can get around pretty well on her other three legs. We're able to keep her sedated enough to prevent unwanted activity at this point. I feel like we are on our way to a great recovery. We would definitely recommend Northstar Veterinary Surgery to anyone in need.

I am heartbroken and extremely disappointed with the care my dog received at Crater Animal Clinic…read more I first brought her in because she had lost interest in food. She was prescribed antibiotics, but after a week there was still no improvement. The vet then suggested IV antibiotics, followed by an ultrasound, which showed a small lesion on her liver. The recommendation was a surgical biopsy. When I asked how my dog would recover from surgery when she still wasn't eating, the response I received was simply to "force feed her." Another test was suggested (a chest X-ray), and desperate to help my dog, I agreed. After hours of waiting with no communication, I had to call myself--only to be told by a vet tech that the X-rays showed no abnormalities and the note from the vet was, "continue with what you're doing." When I arrived to pick up my dog, the first thing I was met with was a request for payment--before I was even able to speak with the vet. It became clear to me at that moment that this office prioritizes dollars over the well-being of their patients. To make matters worse, my dog was brought out soiled and clearly uncared for while in their holding kennel. The following day, a home vet came to evaluate her and immediately identified jaundice--something this vet office never mentioned. Tragically, my sweet girl did not recover, and I had to say goodbye. I am sharing this experience because I would never want another pet parent to go through what we did. Our animals deserve compassionate, thorough, and attentive care--qualities I did not see reflected here.
