Wow! I just moved back to Toronto, and was recommended this place by someone. It exceeded my expectations! I went to see Aaron last week and for the first time in a very long while, I felt HEARD. He actually listened to me about my issues with my hair, my tolerance for "edgy" cuts, and my complete lack of skills or interest in spending more than a few minutes on my hair every day. He gave me a fantastic cut. It's the first time in years that I saw ME when I looked in the mirror. Not someone cosplaying as a Golden Girl... Hallelujah! The salon is very brightly coloured, but the vibe was very relaxed, convivial. Everyone I interacted with seemed genuinely kind. It was very comfortable place. I had an amazing experience at The Cellar Salon. A friend of mine has been coming here for years for her hair, so it was only natural for her to recommend me this place. Melissa was very quick to respond to my Yelp messages, and she ended up working on my hair with one other lady named Soo. The two worked together to turn my hair mess to the gorgeous ashy colour I dreamed of, and actually exceeded my expectations. I had a brief hair consult with one man before I made an appointment to get it done. I was initially told it would cost me about $180-$220, depending if I choose to get a hair cut or blow dry or both. On the day of my appointment Aaron met with me and we discussed what would be best for my hair based on a couple photos I showed him. It was confusing at first but Aaron really laid out the steps for me and broke down the price, even with taxes. The price ended up almost doubling, but I was already in the chair and was determined to get my hair done, plus I really liked how he was being very honest with me. It took 3.5 hours of colouring and washing, but I am super happy with my new hair and have been receiving compliments left and right. I highly recommend this salon. I'm a nervous salon goer due to bad experiences, but there was one time I loved a visit and I'm 99% sure Aaron was the manager or owner there too (Kearns & co wayyy back in 2014 when I did my first hair donation). Huge coincidence that I am to stumble across this salon and it's the only one since 2014 that I've actually felt excited about my hair upon leaving. The Cellar Salon/Sarah/Aaron is/are amazing! If you get to read this Sarah, please let me say again the biggest thank you!! I had a hard time understanding the colors terminology on this visit, so I walked in with quite a wide spectrum of "ideas". Sarah took the time to really help me narrow down what I wanted. I really appreciated that she also took the time to explain what can be realistically achieved and the steps it would take. After the first color reveal, I was a bit shocked because the color was a bit lighter than I expected. She could definitely tell I was not 100% into the look & was determined not to let me settle. I really didn't want to waste her time, but she really genuinely cared & took the time to discuss going one shade darker. Off to the chair I plopped for an additional 10 minutes toner and it turned out totally perfect!! She did an amazing lob cut with the chocolate beige balayage! I'm loving the new me & I can't thank Sarah enough for putting up with me (which she did graciously for 4 hours)!! She's amazing! The staff here are super friendly and the atmosphere is just really positive! I can see why they have so many regular clients! If you are looking for a place to go, this is the salon you know you can trust. :) Ask your stylist questions and make sure you share what you want to achieve. You'll receive a confirmation email right after you book and a reminder email a couple of days before your actual appointment. Hairdresser You hafta select a hairdresser when you book online, so I selected Sooran, the co-owner of the salon. I found she listened to what I wanted and explained every step of the process. She even asked me what styling tools and products that I had at home to replicate the style. Since the style I wanted was sorta messy/beachy, she taught me how to use my hair straightener to do this. This was much appreciated as I realised that I was setting my straightener much too low. Even though I went on a Groupon, I never felt judged or treated in an inferior or rushed way. So the whole experience, beginning to end was great! Setting You hafta enter through 186 Davenport Salon and go down the stairs in order to get to The Cellar Salon, in the lower level. They do not have a separate entrance. Sorta weird, but whatevs. Salon itself is quite small, but cozy. There are large windows, so it doesn't really feel that you're in a lower level. There are 3-4 chairs in total and clients can wait by using iPads to watch Netflix/Next Issue, a nice touch. Clients are also offered tea, coffee, water, & biscuits. :) Prices are quite reasonable/going rate and are all listed on the website. So there aren't any "surprises" at the end of your visit. Anyone whose familiar with this salon and Aarons popularity would know you need to book atleast 3 months in advance if not more. I did the same and reminder fell off my calendar. Most salons send either a call/mail/message reminder to confirm but not cellar. They called me on the day off 30mins after my appointment to remind me I missed it. I apologized because I felt bad for missing their appointment time. I was asked for a 50% charge for late cancellation. They apparently send email reminders because this keeps happening with them but didn't have my email on record. I don't think anyone can confirm their available 3 - 4 months in advance. Since they had no email proof of reminder, they have blacklisted me for Aaron. After such a humiliation and no ownership of mistake, I don't think I would want to visit again. This review is long over-due. I went there the last October. Based on what I had read online I called well ahead of time and booked an appointment with a senior stylist for a haircut. On the appointment day I left work an hour early to be at the salon on time and arrived there ten minutes ahead of my appointment only to be told that the stylist could not make it and she was sick since morning. When I said why didn't they inform me earlier in the day the receptionist said she had been busy since morning and she did not get time, but she "kindly" gave me the option to go ahead with their junior stylist who had been hired only a few weeks before. I was hesitant at first but when , September, who looked like a very nice young girl, told me she had five years of experience in other places I decided to accept in particular because I had a picture of my own hair from a previous haircut (layered such that it would stack show the waives) on my natural hair (not colored, permed, etc...). She said she perfectly understood what I wanted and started while the whole time she complemented my hair being healthy and naturally shiny. However, what I got at the end was my hair over 10 cm shorter with a simple straight cut, no layers what so ever. Over the last seven months I let my hair grow to (almost) where it was but every time I looked at it or tried to examine its ends or brush it I hated it and felt bitter remembering the nasty memory of that day, from irresponsible receptionist (with an attitude) who, for whatever reason, did not respect the client enough to give them a call or send a text or an email to let them about the senior stylist canceling the appointment, to the final result on my head. I will never go back and do NOT recommended it to anyone! read more

Over priced for mediocre service. I had a haircut and deep treatment -- a total of 45 minutes service altogether. While the cut wasn't anything impressive, the deep treatment was a waste of time and money. My hair came out as dry as it went in. I wont return and don't recommend. read more

Aaron is one of the best colourists I've ever had! I kept changing colours every 6-12 months because I was never happy with what I had. And I get bored easily. But since he did my last balayage colour a year ago, I haven't wanted to change it because it looks so good! He is great about telling you what will work for your hair. I love the hair masking service which is basically a roots touch up at the top and front of my head, but cheaper than a full head roots colour, it's way more economical and is perfect for extending the life of my colour. Love it! The salon itself is super cute. Everyone is really friendly and they provide drinks and digital entertainment (Netflix and next issue mags) to keep you busy! Love it! read more

Go here. Trust me; I'm not a doctor, but I am pretty fussy when it comes to my hurr. The Plus Points: -The staff here are fantastic. They communicate clearly, give appointment reminders and always take tonnes of time with you before the scissors even touches your hair. -It's a cool little salon in the basement of another business. Funky! -Coffee. The coffee is amazing! My story: I was nearly an hour late for my appointment [I know, I know!]. Blame a major car rental disaster, coupled with bad traffic and someone hacking my bank account for that one. But they handled it wonderfully and still managed to accommodate me that day. While I'm sure that's not possible all the time - and I certainly wouldn't rock up late intentionally - it demonstrates that they really do go above and beyond for their customers. They were really sweet about it AND didn't rush my appointment at all, even though they would have been totally justified in doing so. Rachel; you're a legend! Went to the Cellar Salon for the first time this Saturday and it was AMAZING!!!! The place is so cute and everyone is so kind. I was greeted with tea and biscuits and all of the stylists regularly asked me if they could get me anything, etc. I saw Aaron on the Marilyn Denis Show and booked an appointment with him. After seeing him on the show it was evident that he was incredible at what he does. On Saturday he gave me blonde highlights and lowlights which were beautiful and I asked him to use his creativity to give me a cut. My hair is very fine and rarely has a lot of body to it. It's also very damaged and Aaron was able to create a cut to my shoulders that I LOVED. He then added beachy waves to the look and I left so happy. My hair seemed so healthy and had so much body! Saturday night I went out and people were actually stopping me to tell me they loved my hair. Aaron is the KINDEST man, really funny, and incredibly talented. Will be going to this salon forever! The staff here are incredible! After a few messages out to businesses, this salon messaged back right away and slotted me in to a cancellation. The stylist did a great job but after getting it blown out I realized it was a bit brighter than I had expected. Without question, they slotted me back in and fixed it right up. I can't recommend Aaron enough. I have been living in Toronto for three years and in that time have spent so much money (more than I care to admit ) on trying to find a hairdresser that can do blonde highlights correctly. I have been left with orange roots, thick highlights , patchy highlights. This was going to high end $alons I came across The Cellar salon online and after reading Aaron was trained in Europe I booked right away. The salon itself is fab, friendly relaxed and very comfortable. Aaron was amazing- first off HE LISTENED to what I needed/ wanted and really took time to make sure I was comfortable. My hair was damaged from a bad experience I had a few months before so I was scared to get it cut so Aaron gave my ends a *light dusting* to rid of the split ends but keep my length. MY COLOUR was fantastic - thin woven natural highlights & clean blonde from root to tip. He even gave me a treatment which boosted the condition of my hair. He knows exactly what your hair style and colour should be to make you look and feel your absolute best! Aaron is excellent at listening to what you want, but also directing you in the right direction as to what will look best with the shape of your face and your skin tone. I told him that I wanted something that was low maintenance, and easy because I am a busy mom and don't always have time to do my hair or to go get it done. So he did ballyage in my hair in such a way that the colour blended together as it grew out and 6 months later it still looked as good as the day he did it! He will also recommend the proper products to use in your hair to keep it looking it's best! The Cellar Salon is so quaint and cozy and everyone that works there make you feel right home. Aaron is an expert stylist and colourist. Without question, he has technical and artistic talent. What really distinguishes him, however, is his willingness to really listen. Rather than impose his vision on clients, he asks, listens and responds. He also does a wicked blow dry. Aaron is also smart and generous enough to surround himself with strong and gifted colleagues. Bryan was totally respectful and did exactly what I asked. I would definitely trust his skill and expertise again. I had the benefit of the introductory special (what a bargain), but can say these people are worth the regular fees. Kind, professional staff that care about your experience. I went and saw Aaron to get Balayage done. I have blonde hair already but haven't had any colour in it in a long while. I wasn't quite sure at first how it differed from highlights but wanted to try something different. Aaron took the time to explain exactly what he would be doing to my hair and gave me really honest and great feedback for what i could expect. He was patient and took his time on my hair to ensure it was perfect! I've had highlights from a bunch of different places but never has my hair turned out this great. It was exactly what i wanted and he did an absolutely amazing job on my hair. Absolutely fabulous experience at the Cellar! Had my hair cut with Rachel and I left extremely pleased. I went in knowing that I wanted to change the style I had, but I didn't have a specific outcome in mind so I don't doubt how annoying I must have been! Rachel spent a solid twenty minutes discussing options and advising on things like face shape, skin tone, etc. She was very patient and also wasn't afraid to offer her own opinion which I really appreciated. At the end, she spent more time teaching me how to style my hair myself - something a hairdresser has never done for me before without charging a ridiculous consult fee. The salon itself is very comfortable and the staff provide a cosy, friendly atmosphere. I've been here twice for a haircut with Soo, and have been super happy with my cut both times. The first time was with a Groupon, and i wasn't treated any differently than full price customers. Obviously I've been back a second time and I've recommended Soo to several friends. My hair is tricky, and even though I always tell stylists about the problem areas, I almost always need to make a second trip to a salon for fixing. Not with Soo; she listens and makes a perfect cut! I get compliments on my haircut cut on a regular basis, even when I haven't even styled it! The main downside for me (though some might appreciate it as a break), is that I don't have 1.5 hours to spare for just a cut/style. It's also an inconvenient trip to downtown Toronto for me, so by the time I'm in and out, it's a full afternoon gone! Nonetheless, fully worth it, and I am happy to carve out the time for exceptional service! read more

Absoultely amazing experience! I've had my hair colored by Aaron for years, so I was very happy to find out he now works at and co-owns The Cellar Salon. I made an appointment online through their website, which was very straight forward and convenient. The salon itself is small and cozy. Nicely decorated and has great service. They take your coat right away and offer you tea while you wait (I came in a bit early). They also provide you with tablets to browse magazines or watch Netflix. I got a haircut with Soo, who was great and did exactly what I asked. I showed her some pictures and she was good at replicating the style. I also had my hair colored by Aaron (balayage highlights) and it turned out as amazing as always! He has consistently been good at listening to what I want, but also at telling me what he thinks will work best and giving me realistic expectations, which is exactly what I want from a hair colorist/stylist. Avoid at all costs. I went here after looking up reviews online with high hopes. When I explained that I wanted a full head of highlights that color matched my extensions, the stylist was apprehensive. I couldn't understand why, I have had this done many many times before in lots of different salons with no issues whatsoever. After over an hour of back and forth and nothing happening, the stylist colored my hair. Instead of blonde, it turned out browny copper with some blonde chunks. And it was fried. I have no idea what kind of bleach this salon uses, but it honestly ruined my hair. My hair has been falling out in chunks ever since. When I queried about my extensions now not matching, the female stylist and the male owner were beyond rude and told me to buy a toner and tone them (????). I said I was worried about ruining these expensive extensions, to which the owner replied 'So?? Buy new ones then'. I was dumbfounded and really just felt like crying. The stylist kept trying to convince me to cut my hair into a bob (again...very confused by this. I just came for highlights). They put the toner in my extensions anyway, despite me expressing my worry. Then the worst part - the stylist handed me my soaking wet extensions in a SANDWICH BAG. My jaw was on the floor. She said she wanted to leave for the night and didn't have time to dry them. It was no where near closing time. I was charged out the nose for this horrendous experience. Devastated at the state of my hair, and too afraid to argue with them, I paid and walked home sobbing. Worst experience I have ever had in a salon. Do not go here. read more
