Do not go here for a haircut!! The hairdresser did an absolutely horrible job, as you can see from the photos it's uneven, I don't even know what's going on on the sides and the back but it's the worst haircut I have ever seen. My son has gotten many haircuts and he is great at sitting still but the hairdresser was so aggressive with him that she made him cry multiple times and made the whole experience terrible for us all. Originally they were going to charge us $75 which is already outrageous but when the receptionist saw how horrible it was she charged us $35 instead. Which is still insane for the horrible haircut he got. We had a family photoshoot planned that I had to cancel because his haircut is so so bad. I went to this location to ask for advice. More or less a consultation whether if I can dye my hair again due to it being dyed several times before. I asked three questions, each one trying to avoid a hair test. I am just scared of a test because I don't know how much hair they will be taking. I asked the first question regarding a dye for my full hair, second question regarding only dyeing the top of my hair since the receptionist , cici said that I'd have to get a test to see if the bottom bleached hair would be able to withstand the colouring and the third question being how I can get away with not getting a hair test, I am literally asking because I just want to see if there is a solution or some way around it. I know I don't have the knowledge so I'm literally asking because I know I have no prior experience to this topic. She gets pissed off at me and gives me attitude for the third question and I'm so confused as to why she was pissed off when I clearly do not know. I am genuinely scared because I don't know how much hair you would take .... She never explained that fully. She just rolled her eyes and raised her voice at me. I just wanted to ask and get more knowledge before I go in with it. Due to this experience I will not ever walk in again. And afterwards when I saw a line up of people trying to pay, this receptionist goes and plays with a dog instead of cashing people out... read more

I had a horrible curtain bangs cut, like the worst you can imagine, choppy, too short and so very blunt, not blended at all. I'm not even sure how anyone could get curtain bangs wrong! Called Aveda on Queen best Duncan, and Mai not only fixed it, she made it look good. She was super friendly and super quick, I had to dip out during work and she totally got it. I have to be honest, I didn't "love" my follow up visit to this salon for a blow out. It *was* with a different person, so I have to say the previous five-star review with Anthea still stands as is and if she is still there would return to her. This time, the blow dry was $42 plus another $15 for a finish with a hot tool. Most salons include the hot tool, but at the end of the day I just want to be happy, have my hair look great and last several days so i went with it. I booked an appointment 3wks in advance with My hairdresser. Texted the salon called the salon made sure appointment was set for Tuesday 14th booked time off work to make sure I make it on time. They called last minute and cancelled the appointment!!! Then to reschedule it they had no appropriate times to book they didn't know the schedule of the staff member and said they would call back but did not!!! Worst customer service!! I was hoping to make this place my new go-to salon, as it's close to my home and there were so many great reviews here on Yelp. However, I left feeling dumbfounded and utterly disappointed. I called to make an appointment and was assigned to Jimmy, an "advanced" stylist at the salon. When I arrived, I was ushered to the waiting area at the back of the salon and the receptionist offered me a drink. I had a cup of green tea. What a nice start to my day, right? Jimmy greeted me and guided me to his chair, where he asked me what I wanted to do with my hair. I said that I didn't want to lose too much length, but two inches would be fine. I said I usually just keep my hair straight with long layers. He said he didn't really want to cut layers for me, and instead wanted to give me "texture and movement". I didn't understand what he meant, and he said he wasn't sure how to explain it, but he would show me. I hesitantly agreed - I wanted to give him a chance. Before the haircut was a shoulder massage. Jimmy explained that it was part of the "Aveda ritual." The shoulder massage was very gimicky. I couldn't exactly identify the scent of the oil that was used, but it wasn't strong enough to be particularly invigorating or calming. The massage was weird. Jimmy gave me some shoulder and neck rubs, but they were very gentle and didn't serve to release any tension/tightness from my muscles. He also waved his hands in front of my face and ran his fingers down the sides of my deltoids, like he was pretending water was trickling down. It was just... so strange. I get it, Jimmy's not an RMT. I just don't think that the massage served any useful purpose. It did not relax me one bit. In fact, it was sort of awkward and a bit eyebrow-raising. Jimmy then washed my hair and then proceeded to cut it. This was by far the most bizarre haircut I have ever had. Jimmy did very little actual hair cutting. For the vast majority of the haircut, he would just take a small section of my hair, twirl the section, and then hack at the ends with a pair of thinning shears. Apparently, this was his way of creating "texture and movement" but I couldn't really see how this technique was able to achieve that. Honestly, my hair now just looks choppy at the bottom and it lacks shape because all my existing layers were cut off. To Jimmy's credit, he did take the time to ensure that the left and right sides were even (I have had problems in the past where one side is longer than the other and have had to even out the sides on my own). Jimmy asked me how I would like my hair styled. I mentioned that I was going to a wedding later that day, and that I usually flat-ironed my hair for special events. He suggested doing something wavy for a change, and I thought, "Sure, why not?" Honestly, this was some of the worst hairstyling I've ever experienced. I have extremely thick and coarse hair. In order to make hot tools work on my hair type, you have to work on small sections at a time - even a hairstyling amateur like me knows this. However, Jimmy clamped and twirled very large sections of my hair with a flat iron to make waves. My hair was droopy, flat and limp. I left, feeling horribly embarrassed at how bad it was. In fact, I washed and restyled my hair as soon as I got home. I was able to use the new customer $20 off promotion that was mentioned by some other users here on Yelp, so my haircut came to $55+tax. That's fine - it's a reasonable price for a haircut - but I was extremely disappointed at the poor workmanship. I would never come back and pay full price for the low quality haircut and style that I had received. Also, you can only give cash tips, which I thought was odd. I paid by credit card but did not have the option to add a tip. I had to ask the receptionist to break a larger bill into smaller denominations for me. I used to go to Civello Rosedale to see Arya, who is a rare angel who knew exactly what I wanted and delivered it every time. She's moved to another city, so I switched to Civello Queen to try Elio. This is my third cut with him. The first two were good - this third one is awful. He dry cut it despite my specific request to not dry cut it, first of all; dry cutting makes my hair very flyaway and makes my scalp super itchy for a week, even after showering. I asked for a textured pixie that was a little longer on top so my cowlick didn't stick up. I got this ultra short, one length pixie that makes my cowlick the centre of attention. I cannot get the bangs to lay nicely; they are all different lengths and won't gather, even with lots of product. I had to shower as soon as I got home as my hair had not been combed out of the dry, cut pieces and it was awful. I feel so stupid because this is my third time with this stylist, and I wasn't paying a ton of attention at the salon and still tipped. I wish I could take my tip back, because as my hair settles it just gets worse and worse. Back to hunting for a different stylist *again* - finding people who know how to do nice short cuts without dry cutting nowadays is difficult. read more

I've been to their aveda institute as well as this big brand Civello. I've been very impressed by their customer service. From the moment I stepped in the door, the receptionist greets me and gets me seated where my stylist performs her artwork on my hair. They serve tea, coffee, and water to their guests and treats them with respect. My hair stylist, Erika, has been there for my hair since the beginning of her career at Civello. She knows what I want and understands how I feel about my hair. She also tries to get to understand how you are feeling during the week and creates small talk. She's good at remembering that information and makes you feel better during the cut or the styling. Her updos and styling is absolutely amazing! One time I had a vintage look and all I needed were some red lips and some 1950s clothes to complete the look! Fantabulous! I would definitely recommend people to come here at least once in their lifetime. Yes it is a high class hair salon, but it is that way for a reason! read more

I came here for the spa, having received a gift card years ago that I forgot to use! Thankfully, it didn't expire and they let me use it. Civello is better know for its salon services and Aveda products that you can buy in the boutique. I have never been here for the salon, but it looks amazing, including the little espresso bar at the back! The spa is upstairs. There is just one change room, a bathroom, and on one end of the hall are treatment rooms and on the other end there is a waiting area and side by side chairs for manicures/pedicures. In terms of the facility itself, it is not the most luxurious spa. I would have appreciated somewhere to lock my bag and clothing. Instead, after leaving the change room, you have to leave your belongings in an unlocked closet. But the basics are there -- waffle bath robes, tea (they recommended this amazing herbal tea, can't remember what it was called...), and good service. I had the Caribbean Therapy body treatment (75 minutes, $120). It's a scrub, back and leg wrap, and massage. Everything was so relaxing and the RMT was very professional and attentive, asking me about the room temperature, music, aromatherapy, pressure etc. to make sure I was comfortable. I love Aveda products -- everything smells amazing. At the end of the treatment, the RMT noticed that she was almost at the end of the bottle of Carribean Therapy body wash, so she let me have the bottle (just 1-2 uses left) to take home. The treatment was a great way to unwind. I wouldn't say it's the type of massage to target specific muscle groups or for a specific therapeutic purpose, but I left feeling blissfully relaxed. Since it was my first time visiting Civello, they gave me a $25 giftcard to go towards my next service (spa only, cannot be used towards salon). I will definitely be back for the personalized service, convenient location, and great overall spa experience. read more

I always have good experiences at Civello. The service is always great and I love the essential oils, plus the robes they use don't cut off my circulation at the throat. 1st visit: Got my colour fixed by Tianna, rinsed out by Maxine, and a cut by Lauren. Only minor issues were that I was promised that I'd get to see Lauren for a consultation before my colour, but it didn't happen until I requested it. I was also promised a scalp massage because when I was waiting for my colour to work its magic, they couldn't give me the shoulder massage that they normally would. It didn't happen either. And I didn't get a coupon for my next visit, though I suspect they are no longer do that for first appointments. But I was very happy with my results - I attached some photos for refernece. Lauren is very talented and gave me a great cut & blowout. 2nd visit: Got a blowout from Sophie because I had to take a professional portrait the next day and couldn't book an appointment for the day of. Sophie gave me a lovely quick massage with the essential oil of my choice, and it was so perfect for the end of a work day! Sophie was very nice and did a great job - I fell asleep in the chair a few times. :P 3rd visit: Learned Lauren's no longer there. :( I had a cut with Sophie instead, who did a decent job. I love how she's not pushy with getting you to get products. Would come back and would recommend this place! I am a yelper and the only reason I went to Civello was the high overall rate in yelp. I went there for the first time to balayage my hair. Warm welcoming, coffee and massage was great. But my first visit was not very satisfactory. At the end, my hair was very brighter with reddish tone. After washing my hair twice, it looked even worse, very brassy and much brighter than I like. I contacted lisa ( business manager) and she booked me a complimentary reassesment. On my second visit which was quite long (around two hours), Flix did a pretty good job fixing my hair without charging me any extra. I never, ever write reviews, but this one was one I had to take a moment to think and type out. My hair is the biggest burden ever, and naturally it is jet black, extremely thick, and until a month ago, extremely long. I had called and viewed several salons around Toronto to get my hair lightened (eventually getting to blonde), and decided to go with Marisa at Civello, because of her amazing work and exceptional reviews. I walked in with some highlights and we talked about the lengths my hair can go in terms of lifting and if it was even possible to get to a caramel colour. I've dreamt of going blonde for so long, and all in all I wanted to get my hair lighter before going on a trip, and Marisa was really patient and listened and showed me what was possible. Before we started, she let me know the pricing of my hair because I have thick hair and need more product and I really appreciated that! As she was doing my hair (I got a balayage done), she was so precise and skilled (and super efficient!!) My hair ended up lifting more than I expected and it was even toned to an ashy tone, even though my hair lifts pretty brassy. The end result exceeded my expectations and I am so grateful that Marisa was able to let my hair dreams come true. I cannot be happier with what I walked out with. The entire process (from sit down to walking out) was less than half the time it usually takes, with way better results. Marisa is truly a hair wizard and I will be coming back to her. So I have no clue as to how much a haircut is here, but I'm guessing it's at least $$$*** I've been to almost the same calibre salon in Mississauga and the difference that I've noticed with Civello Vs. _______________, is that Civello seems to focus on customer service. Whereas _____________ local salon had a really catty atmosphere, gossipy, hairdressers talking about customers/other coworkers, etc. Civello really caters to their clients and makes them feel pampered, YES, even if they're there as part of a tv show makeover. So, as a first-timer at the salon, that was quite impressive to me! As soon as you're offered a robe, you're asked if you want a drink (non-alcoholic). Before the colourist starts his/her job, you're asked if you want another drink. After you get your hair coloured, the colourist gives you a neck/shoulder message, very relaxing. Dylan, the Creative Director, cut my hair and she was very professional and polite. I feel very lucky that I had the opportunity to experience the salon that I normally wouldn't even consider going to. read more

I decided to donate my hair, which would be a drastic style change for me. I wanted my hair to be in good hands, so I chose this salon as it seemed very professional and my friend recommended it! You can conveniently book an appointment online. I explained that I wanted to donate my hair and showed the hair dresser a few pictures of hair styles I liked, and he knew exactly what I wanted! Before he cut off my donation ponytail, he showed me the length in the mirror to double check if I was happy with it. My stylist explained everything as the cut went along. I loved the end result! As for the "amenities" mentioned in other reviews: they offer refreshments, provide a very brief scented oil shoulder massage (it doesn't really do anything). I had a very disappointing experience today. I feel cheated. I booked the appointment earlier this week for a balayage for today. I was quoted that it would cost roughly between $140-sub 200 for just the balayage. When I was charged today, it was for $245 (excluding tax). I was shocked. Why? Because it was $140 for the balayage, $70 for the root colour, and then an additional $35 for the toner. Excuse me? I didn't realize I asked for all of that. The problem? They DID NOT communicate with me. During my appointment, I told my hairdresser that I wanted to fix my highlights. He suggested we bring down my root colour to blend them more. I said sure, he knows best. What he failed to mention was that this root colour would cost an addition $70. Had he communicated that, I would have skipped it and said that we could've done without it. After all of the colour, he said that he was going to apply to toner to bring out the blonde colour more. He didn't ask. Just said it was needed. Again, failed to mention that this would cost an addition $35. So now we have gone up by $105. Excuse me? If the hairdresser mentioned these extra costs at the time, I wouldn't have mind paying it because then it wouldn't come to a surprise. But this additional cost without discussing this with me is just ridiculous. I feel robbed. It was not was I was quoted or asked about. I'm sorry but this extremely upsets me because at the end, you have no choice to pay and you exit feeling like an idiot. Never coming here again - and I will tell everyone else the same. Avoid Civellos on Queen at all costs! I am extremely disappointed in their service. I went to Civellos because I thought they were a trusted brand to get my hair dyed from brown to bleach blonde and ended up with bright yellow hair. I was told that she was an experienced colourist but clearly she doesn't know what she's doing. She bleached the middle of my hair and then waited 25 minutes to bleach my scalp and my ends which made it so that I had copper and somewhat yellow middle and white platinum roots. I was processing and she left me alone and went downstairs for a full 25 minutes with bleach blonde hair on my scalp without checking. I have very long hair that she left hanging down without pinning up, applying a bag or applying heat (which caused it to be far more painful than any other bleach job I've had). When I was 'finished' (She had chosen to make the call to wash my hair early before it was ready). She had sent someone else to blow dry my hair and I was expected to leave with the yellow result. After waiting 30 minutes for her to come downstairs to talk to me about the yellow, she told me that she did her best. I literally cried when I saw the yellow as I explicitly told her that I did not want yellow hair. She told me that I didn't ever say that and said that because she said it may be warmer and I should've known that that meant yellow. She persisted to then tell me I didn't ever say that I didn't want yellow hair. She also told me that she takes her work home with her and that this effects her, BUT does she need to go out in the world with this terrible hair she's just given me? I was told that they closed in half an hour so my only option was to get darker toner put on. After the darker toner was put on she then persisted to tell me other solutions that could have been done instead (highlights, etc.) and said only now that she had all the time in the world to curl and style my hair. If you have the extra time to style my hair, you should have given me other options to fix the mistakes. The result of her "fix job" was a mess and after just one wash I could see all the mistakes she's made with the bleach and all the dark tone was gone, it was all back to yellow. It was a bad dye job and terrible customer service. I went to another downtown hair colourist and he even said that it was a terrible die job and clearly an inexperienced colourist. I was charged $350 for yellow hair and had to spend another $350 to get it fixed at another salon. I was charged for two colourings even though the first cover was only on the middle of my hair strand. The second colouring was of my ends and my roots. I would consider that one color. She did pay for my last toner to "fix"the problem but that doesn't make up for the damage that she caused my hair. I will never go back to Civello's and I will recommend that all of my friends stay away. read more

I'll start with the positive - the stylists here all do a wonderful job. I've had cuts from Izzy and colour from Courtney and they always do a great job and I love how my hair looks. It is hard for me to leave a negative review because I always love how my hair turns out. However, the front desk staff are INCREDIBLY rude. I've noticed it at past appointments but today seemed especially bad. I was waiting to check in for 5 minutes at the front while the guy and the girl at reception were busy taking selfies. I constantly find myself feeling like a second class citizen when dealing with rude reception. read more

CIvello is now using its own new line of products and the colour is nowhere near as good as Aveda. Although my colourist did it the same way he always does, it has left my hair heavy, greasy-feeling, and the colour is already (one week later) coming off the roots. First things first, when you make an appointment as a new customer, be sure to mention the $20 discount for new clients!!! This makes your first time experience automatically 10x better. Tip I got from my stylist Cara was to book on a Sunday if you're not looking for a specific stylist. Sundays sees less stylists on the floor but because of that, there's less people and it's much more quiet. Saturday's are their busiest days, followed by Friday and Thursday respectively. The approach they take with hair cutting is very step by step, they'll cut a little bit and work with you to see how comfortable you are with the current length/look before continuing to cut off more. Despite the slower approach, I was still able to be in and out within the hour. read more

I had a nice highlite for the entire hair (long hair) with Vanessa 2 months ago and I really liked it and it was worth the 250$++ That I payed that day. I decided to do the roots and (half head) again although its been only 2 months but I wanted to keep it fresh. I went there after getting a hair cut (barely shoulder length hair) and surprisingly They asked me to pay 250$++ again for half the service. I asked them if they changed the rates? I called on the day of my appointment to ensure that this person knew how to cut curly hair and knew how to do fades. However this turned out to be not true. The stylist was very nice and the customer service was great, however there is clearly a lack of skill. I came home and realized that the back of my head was extremely uneven, and the hairline was also not cleaned up. My hair is too short to be fixed and I'm stuck with this until it can grow out. It's embarrassing. I waited 8 weeks since my last hair cut, letting it grow out, and I spent a lot of time researching where to get my hair cut before I decided to give Civello a try. I've been getting my hair cut and coloured here since I moved to Toronto a few years ago. Aveda salons are usually a safe bet and so is this one. Overall, really happy with the service and would recommend it! Really great: - each appointment starts with an aromatherapy scalp/shoulder massage -when you get colouring done, they often offer hand massages while you wait -the 'chair' where they wash out shampoo/dye is a fully horizontal lounge chair -as soon as you arrive, you put on a robe (to avoid getting hair all over your clothes) -you're always offered tea/coffee/water on the way in, and a 'lip gloss' touch up on the way out Not-so-great things to be aware of: - If you're paying by credit card, you can't 'add a tip.' I don't understand this and almost every time I go in, we have a discussion about it. Tips can be paid in cash or added to the total on debit. - they require a credit card to book your appointment and if you don't cancel with enough notice (24 hours I believe) you're charged for the appointment. I understand the concept, but it sometimes makes it difficult to make appointments. My job isn't really 9-5 and sometimes things happen beyond my control. I gave Parlour 4 stars and my recent Civello experience was much better...so 5 stars it is! I actually tried Civello over a year ago initially and the experience was pretty good but not completely exceptional. I had a girl called Jessica at that time and the cut was fine but I don't think we clicked so I hadn't been in a rush to go back. One of the great things about Civello is that they give you a $25 gift card after your first visit. I'd been carrying it around for ages and had half forgotten about it. Then, in typical disorganized me fashion, I was a few days from a trip away with hair like a rat's nest and no appointment made for a cut. I had a voucher for Toni & Guy but they had no availability so I wandered into Civello on the off-chance that they could fit me in. It was so easy to get the time I wanted which was late on a Saturday evening. I just love their opening hours! The guy at reception was very friendly and after a chat about what I wanted recommended Morgan. On the day, I arrived and discovered that he had accidentally put me with Kennedy instead. I'm sure Morgan would have been great, but it actually worked really well for me that I had Kennedy! One of those happy accidents. She was so sweet and was really motivated to help me to keep length in my hair. I hate being scalped! I'm hairdresser phobic but she put me at ease. No Valium needed this time. We had an extensive consultation, she washed my hair herself and she took great care with the cut. I liked it that she didn't flat iron it before cutting and we got to agree on how much was going. The cut is much better than the one I got at Parlour and she was cheaper too-$55. She was chatty and really easy to get along with. I will definitely go back to her! The salon itself is clean and you get a nice robe to cover you so no annoying hair bits afterwards. I love that the chairs at the sinks are basically beds and the Aveda products. The little shoulder massage is a nice touch and it was also a nice surprise that there was a Yelp check-in bonus of shampoo samples. The refreshments are also great-I love my coffee! Again, Parlour failed on that. There's nothing I can fault after that experience really. I was scheduled with the wrong person, but it ended up working out beautifully. I'm still really happy with the cut-my hair is much more manageable and looks far better than after my more expensive Parlour cut. I'm a fan! read more

They provide GREAT service - not only with talented stylists that deliver the best haircut every time but also a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Some hair stylists forget that service is not only the QUALITY of their hair style and hair cut but it is ALSO the way they treat their customers. The atmosphere at Civello is so pleasant! I get my hair done once a year mostly because I've never had any great or stellar experiences with my haircuts. I tried Civello because of all the stellar reviews on Yelp and it did not disappoint. For my haircut, I told Kenedi two inches off and a lot of layers- she gave me exactly what I wanted. :) Great service and great location... prices are higher.If you're like me and get your hair done once a year I think the price is justifiable. read more
