I went to MOMO Hair Salon to get my first digital perm. Not going to lie, I was a bit nervous since I wasn't sure if my previous thick black hair could be transformed into nice curly waves. Wow, Liz and Sumi certainly worked their magic on my hair. My appointment started out with a thorough consultation to understand my hair type, my face type and how I style my hair on a daily basis. Then, we proceeded to a trim to the side of my head and at the back of my head. Sumi asked lots of great questions and walked through every step of the process to make sure I was aware of the procedures and communicated what was going on, which I really did appreciate. Then, we proceeded to the application of the solution which was pretty cool as it was 3-person teamwork project to apply solution while putting my hair into curls. It was actually a fun experience. The final reveal of my hair was amazing. I was in awe of how my dull and boring thick black horn could look naturally shaped with the curls. The style was clean and smart and the staff provided helpful tips to ensure that I can maintain my look for a long-term basis. I highly recommend this spot if this is your first or ongoing perm appointment. It was one of the most pleasant experiences, especially for this person who does not like sitting in a chair for long periods of time. read more

It was fairly easy to get here. There are lots of street parking and parking lot/ garages around. Service was excellent - my sister enjoyed a very relaxing hair wash before getting her haircut. My first visit was a decade ago to get a balayage and this time I came back for their digital perm. This did take a couple of hours but my hair looked amazing! I literally slept and didn't wash my hair for 4 days and the curls was still nice (I didn't brush my hair either). Highly recommend if you want low maintenance but nice blow out hair. read more

I went here a few years ago. I've had a lot of dye jobs in the past but haven't dyed my hair in a few years so was like why not! Seize the day! The staff told me that with the colours I wanted (an ashy purple or a honey brown ombré) I would need to come back for multiple dyes because doing it all in one day would just wreck my hair. They were very polite in discussing my options with me and informative. I did not want to come back nor did I have a big budget to spare. I ended up deciding on bleaching my hair and then dying it again purple after. They explained that the purple dye would also serve as a treatment to condition my hair so it wouldn't get too damaged or dry. It would be really purple at first (which it was!), but then fade into the ashy purple I wanted. Not only that but the purple would counter the orangey colour that hair often turns to after being bleached. So I was like sounds good to me! The whole process took like 6-8 hours, as dye jobs often do... so I sat back, had lunch and chatted with my friend. The end result was beautiful and I was highly satisfied! I did leave feeling very upset however because there was miscommunication with the prices. I was under the impression my hair would only be bleached once, but it was actually bleached twice in order to let the purple treatment sink in. The price I was given in the beginning was for one bleach only. So I was shocked and felt upset when I received the high unexpected price total (that actually almost brought me to tears because I really didn't expect it) and needed to go to an ATM to withdraw more money since it was WAY more than I budgeted for as a broke uni student (can't remember the exact pricing but it was close to $500). The staff were apologetic about the misunderstanding and promised to be more clear in future communications. Overall, despite the communication mishap, I did feel the dye job was high quality and was very satisfied because a year later, the purple color faded to a lovely blond-ashy ombré which was almost like a second dye job, so I would still consider returning in the future but would just budget for much higher. read more

I've been coming to Momo Hair for about 1 year now and I will never go anywhere else. I get a Japanese straight perm and cut when I go and they are the BEST. They are so professional and nice and AMAZING at what they do. I always leave the salon looking and feeling amazing. Even after perm my hair feels amazing and it doesn't smell like the perm chemical which is so good especially because the solution has to be left on for two days post-perm and I have a sensitive nose. Even the haircuts I receive are so flattering and always grow out well. During the appointments they're always checking in too, which is super nice. They are so amazing! This is pertaining to the Japanese Hair straightening: They are so good, they gave me a quote and looked at my hair and was honest about the possible outcomes. I have curly long and dry hair, and they let me know that the perm may not come out as nice due to the damage my hair had from constant straightening (my dry hair) and they let me know they can cut it but it will be a cost but to just do the perm and see, as I did not want to cut my HAIR AT ALL. So we did the whole thing - washed and dried my hair and applied the necessary chemicals, and then 2.5 hours later it was AMAZING. Will definitely go back and I recommend it if this is what you want! First time visit. I decided to come here after yelping. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. They even took notes while I was describing my hair condition. Not sure if they would really create a profile for me but it did seem very caring. It was very pricy though. I did Japanese perm and the price was way higher than Maya. They did head massages when washing my hair which was relaxing, but didn't have ear covers so I had to use hands to cover my ears when ironing. Minus one star because of the price and ear covers, reserve one star for future as I want to see how my hair looks after one month. read more

How have I not given this place a review??? This is my go-to hair salon. They have awesome customer service but at the same time will gently tell you if your choice of haircut may not be the best. Lol (i had wanted to cut my hair short and she asked if she can trim it bit by bit until we reached the length that I liked - thank goodness she did because I would not have liked the outcome if I got my way!) The only thing is their operation hours are a little strange since they don't open on Sundays. I went to this salon 3 times. The three times my hair looked great after color and styling. The last time I was mistreated: 1. They ignored my text asking to book an appointment even though they were clearly free when I decided to try walking in. They said their phone was working and I received no apology for the lack of response. 2. One of the stylists kept pulling my hair and had the hair dryer so hot it kept burning my scalp. I told her she was hurting me and she kept going until I couldn't physically take it and removed my head. I was crying in pain from the burn. She didn't apologize. Im never going back, makes no sense to treat customers this way especially after charging them more than $100 for a root touch up. read more

I booked an appointment online, indicating I wanted a haircut and highlights. Someone texted back promptly, giving me a date. I confirmed through text again that I wanted a cut and highlights. When I went to my appointment, I was told they only do balayage or full colouring, NOT highlights. They were polite but did not take any responsibility for wasting my morning and attributed the problem to "miscommunication." Been here a few times and the prices have gone up to $65 last time for a haircut. While the overall experience was pleasant I most likely will not return. The hair wash was pleasant and the people were very sweet. The cut was very brief and the stylist did not ask if I wanted additional adjustments before moving on to the next client. I visited here because it was close to my home but for this price I will not be returning sadly. I may have found the prefect hair salon in Toronto after many years of trial and error. First off, Momo's customer service was outstanding. My hair stylist Roye personally messaged me the day before to remind me about my appointment and to establish a connection. She also answered any questions I had. When I arrived Roye was very attentive. In fact, I felt the entire staff was very professional and warm. Second, their pricing is unbelievable. I got balayage done on my long black hair for approximately $300. This also included the cut, layering, wash, toning, and styling. Mind you my hair took on the dye and bleach well so I didn't need more sessions. Third, the quality of the haircut and balayage job was what I was most pleased with. Compared to other salons that would do a rushed job, at any given point at Momo I would have 3 ladies working on my hair and examining the quality. I especially loved how they also use high end products from a variety of brands like Schwarzkopf, L'Oréal, as well as Korean and Japanese products. It is now 1 week later and after 3 washes with purple shampoo, my hair still looks the same as when I left the salon. read more

The service here was really friendly and nice, as others mentioned, they greet you well when you first arrive and take your coat. I haven't had my hair cut professionally in 10 years, so after extensive research momo seemed like a good place. I also wanted to get my hair balayaged, and they seemed to specialize in it. The haircut itself felt very rushed. I asked for layers and to keep the length, but it looks like I've just got an asian mullet now! Not happy with the cut. The balayage itself was $180 for ONE bleach session which turned out ok but would have been better with two sessions, as advised (+$180 plus toner) but it was too pricey for me. Be advised to be very specific and show lots of reference photos. I wanted and stated to have my balayage to start mid high but the front sections of my hair are bleached to the top down (way too high), so it looks like I've just had a bad bleach job done in the front. I should have been more clear or been alert during the bleaching process when I saw the stylist apply bleach closer to my roots, but I wanted to put faith in what the stylists were doing. Overall they have very friendly service, but I came here expecting to be satisfied with my hair: the haircut was not great at all, and the balayage was done too high - though bear in mind, it could have turned out ok if I paid the additional bleaching round, and I could have stated more clearly or repeat myself to follow the reference photos to start lower or be more alert during the process. read more

I find the hairstylist very rude and upfront. When I asked about how I want my colour to turn out, the girl (Liz I believe) said she can only do ash brown which is fine. What is not okay is that her attitude is extreme condescending and rude, I almost feel humiliated in front of all the other customers by the way she talks to me. Didn't look like she is sorry about it and no apologize. Also, this place is not cheap, I spend almost $300 there. With this kind of service, I do not recommend anyone to go there. read more

Bad EXPERIENCES! AVOID this salon. Did Japanese straightening there! I am loosing my hair and very dry! I contacted them! Right away they rejected any discussion! So on top of this there is no customer service! An update on this tragedy happened to my hair in this salon. I reported this incident to ' Ontario College of Trades'. After the investigation, the report came that the lady worked on my hair and applied the chemicals was not licensed so not authorized to work and she was the wife's owner sister!! I based my decision to come here soley on the reviews here. I wanted to fix my bleach and dye it blonde. Colorist said it was impossible with my hair so we decided on a gray that was done on another client. i was quoted $410 (half head bleach=160, full head bleach=200, color=50). After the second bleach was processing (5 hours later) she came back to me while I was sitting in the chair and said she "quoted" me the wrong price ( and this is the same person who quoted me in the beginning) The actual price was.. 1. Half head bleach = 160 , full head bleach = 200 , toner =30 TOTAL= 390 OR 2. Half head bleach=160, full head bleach= 200, color=160. TOTAL= $510 She explained the difference was because COLOR lasted 3-4 weeks and the TONER will come out within 2-3 WASHES. Because I was already sitting in the chair with brassy yellow bleach I had to choose the more expensive option for it to last longer. Stylists there advised me that my scalp will be burned but the owner (Liz) recommended me to go for color because she has colored her hair 5 times in one day and she had no problem. Based on her expertise I proceeded with dying my hair the third time. Process took me 6 hours, a 2nd degree chemical burn and fabulous hair.. for one day. So far I only washed my hair twice (no shampoo) and I already see blonde streaks peaking through. I called the salon to see what they could do because i paid a premium yet it only lasted less than 48 hours. The stylist told me she said color only lasted 3-4 WASHES and toner just makes it brighter. I explained to her that's not what she told me and I could not do any more processing on my already burned scalp. She then said there's nothing she can do and that I wanted blonde hair so color fading is not their problem. I proceeded to speak to the owner(liz) and she tells me color($160 option) was used to achieve a ash blonde color. If i did not use color and instead toner($30) i would have not achieve "ash blonde". I was never told this in the salon, and i'm quite frustrated that they've changed their story at least 3 times. The color stylist specifically told me i could achieve gray from both methods, but toner would wash out faster. So why did i pay $160 when the result is the same as the $30 option? They have refused to refund me the coloring expense($160) Do NOT listen to the other reviews here because that is what I did and here is the outcome. $510 for 48 hours of gray hair followed by a chemical burn all over my scalp and blonde streaks showing through on the third day. read more

Now that they've moved up stairs, the ambiance has improved, but sadly the service and prices are reasons to stay away. Prices have doubled. Service is terrible!!! Don't go. JAPANESE STRAIGHTENING BANG ON! I've had Japanese straightening done twice before coming to Momo's. At least I thought I had. After being unhappy with the results (from two different salons in London, ON), I searched online for salons in Toronto. Momo popped up with great reviews, so I gave them a rang and booked an appointment. I was shocked they could get me in within four days! I was promptly greeted upon arrival. The salon was busy, as expected for a Saturday. Staff were so upbeat and happy. I was amazed at the friendliness of everyone. Not pretentious at all. I felt very relaxed. Claire, who did my treatment, assessed my hair, and explained how she would blend her work, into the poor work from previous treatments. I felt confident with my hair being in good hands. Four hours later, my hair was what I expected post-treatment. But, I couldn't write a review, until after I washed my hair (two days later). Because after the wash, I'd then be able to really see the magic Claire did (or possibly didn't). So, today was wash day (and thus, review day). Wow, my hair has never felt this soft! I did a rough blow dry, and combed it as instructed. My hair is honestly pin straight (except for the garbage at my ends from previously, which I knew would happen). Hair looks incredibly shiny too. Once I chop off the crappy ends, my hair will be lovely thanks to Claire and her skills. I'm glad to have finally found a salon that can give me the quality of Japanese straightening I would expect. And, I don't mind driving in to Toronto for the day to get it done either if it means my hair is frizz-free from now on. Prices were VERY competitive, considering what I paid for the same treatment in London, with very poor results. read more

If only there was a 4.5 star option.I took off half a star because of how pricy it is. I found this salon via googling japanese straight perm and this place was recommended. Although a bit pricy ( i paid 450$+40$tip) its well worth it, my hair came down till mid back, took about 4 hrs for the whole process. Its been almost a month since I gotten my perm and it still looks great.Ive have 2 Japanese perm at other places, although alot cheaper, they did not last as long or the process wasnt as comfortable.I think this place would be great if you are welling to pay more for better results. read more

The service here is very friendly, but unfortunately I have been disappointed with my haircuts the last two times I've come here. I found that the cuts were done in a rush and ended up being very sloppy. I have very short hair (2" at its shortest and 5" at its longest) and none of it was thinned out, which resulted in it growing out into a poofy, uneven mushroom cut soon after my haircut. When I asked for it to be thinned the second time, my hairstylist said I have thin hair and shouldn't thin it out anymore. Perhaps the stylist didn't have expertise with short hair. Also, I explicitly mentioned to keep the front of my hair long but the stylist cut it, so here I am a few months later still trying to grow it back out. Sad times. I wouldn't come back for a haircut, but I would come back to get colouring done, as it seems like that's their specialty. read more

Finally. After over decades of living on this planet, I have found the BEST hairdresser of all time. Liz, owner of Momo Hair by Liz, is wonderful. I showed her a photo of what I hairstyle wanted (of course, taken from a recent episode of "Sweet Munchies" Korean drama) and she knew exactly what I was going for. I also have to preface this by saying I have been growing my hair long for awhile to make wigs for kids with cancer, and she was thrilled to cut off a 16 inch ponytail. After she cut and styled my hair, I took a shower and for the FIRST time in my life, the cut/style did not disappear once I shampooed at home! She cut it in such a way, that my hair just resumed position, as if I had just stepped out of a salon (again). She is incredible and I am going to post this review on every site I can find to spread the word. She and her lovely employees all deserve the best shoutout. With the pandemic, she is working at much lower capacities, taking your temperature when you walk in, give you a mask to wear, clean the salon seat, etc. The employees are all wearing masks and face shields. I wanted to get Japanese hair straightening for almost 8 years and decided to go to Momo's Hair Salon after I researched extensively. Here are my pro's & con's of my experience... Pros: - Staff is very friendly - Staff is very knowledgeable with Japanese hair straightening - The ambience was inviting and relaxing Cons: - No parking on site - Non-transparent pricing - Although I liked being assisted by multiple staff members doing my hair, I would have preferred just 1 member focusing solely on me I have medium length hair (2 inches below my shoulders) and I was only able to get the straightening done for half of my head due to previous bleaching and colouring. The staff member told me $200 which made sense to me because I looked at other reviews saying they paid $220 for the digital perm which is actually more expensive on their website then the straightening so in my mind I assumed they took $20 off because the bottom couldn't be done. I had several ladies working on my hair at once and when it completed my hair was very silky and looked amazing - these women are very experienced and I had 0 reason not to trust them doing my hair. At the end when I went to pay, the lady told me it was $300. I was a little bit shocked because I thought she said $200 at the beginning of the appointment but that could've been my fault. On their website it states $180+, I wish I sent them a picture of my hair before my appointment to have a price estimate because not only did I pay $100 more + tax + tip, I drove 2 hours for this appointment and paid $25 for parking nearby. If you're going to say $180+ on your website, state it's only for short hair, $300+ medium hair, $400 + long hair. My hair wasn't even that long and I only had half my hair done and $300 for what I received is quite pricey. The work I had done was amazing and I will definitely be returning, my review is simply for other women/men who want permanent straightening but with clarified pricing. read more

Came here as a recommendation from my sister who got her hair done two weeks ago and was pretty impressed. The reviews speak for the amazing service and there was nothing less of that at my experience here last week. The hours are pretty flexible so I was able to make an appointment when I called the day before I went. I have been trying to find a decent hair salon and I think this might be the place. Immediately, when I walked in for my appointment, I was greeted and was offered to have my jacket hanged. They also offered me tea or coffee. One of the helpers washed my hair and gave a really nice head massage. Then Liz who cut my hair came by and greeted me nicely and asked how I wanted to cut my hair. I told her I needed a nice trim because my hair was super long. I told her to cut about 4 inches off and style to what she think was best. I was super impressed by her expertise in how fast she cut my hair! She trimmed it to my liking, brought some layers/side bangs back and they even curled my hair after. All in all, the whole wash, cut, style was just $45 plus tax or if you pay cash you can save on the tax. I paid cash and gave a nice tip for Liz because she did an amazing job. I have/had very curly frizzy long hair and came in for the Japanese Straightening treatment after seeing all the great reviews, i've been wanting to do this forever but have been putting it off because the whole permanent thing was a scary commitment. I booked my appointment and came in a week later, so excited!! As soon as I came in I was warmly greeted and things got going, three people working on my hair!! Amazing scalp massage at the sink, appointment flew as I watched the staff expertly work their magic on my head, lol. At the beginning I was told to expect a 60% improvement due to my super curls, at the end I was blown away with the smooth sleek perfection on my head, the staff outdid themselves!! I am SO GLAD that I went with this salon. I was close to just settling for a salon near by my area because this was quite the drive from where I was. Upon entering the salon, I was greeted right away by the staff and we started getting to work right away. Like, literally.. which in the end I understood why. Liz introduced herself to me and proceeded to talk about the steps on how to achieve my hair goal whilst showing me pictures. What I like about her is that she was honest with me from the beginning on what can be done and what we cant do. For short, just trust this woman because you wont regret it... she knows her stuff! My hair was a long process (7.5hrs, thats why we started right away when I came in) and the whole time they would offer me drinks and even asian food. Lol. Other places just offer drinks but they legit offered me food because of the wait. How can you not love this type of customer service. Prices depends on the length, texture and service needed for your hair. I had a lot done to my hair (balayage, ombre, colour fix and hair cut) and paid quite the price so I seriously suggest you consult with them for everything they need to do to your hair BEFORE you start getting it done. I thought I would just be getting a balayage/ombre when I came in but in order to achieve what I wanted, there were some stuff needed to be done first prior to doing balayage/ombre so it added up. So seeing them in person first would be much better in my opinion to get a proper estimate...just so some of you wont be shocked at the price point later. In conclusion, liz and her team are impressive and will take care of your hair. I have finally found someone who I can trust with my unmanageable asian hair so I highly recommend them!
