I strongly recommend Yin Lin as your hair stylist specially if you need someone for a Japanese straightening perm. I can be extremely picky and its hard to find a good hair salon where you trust the scissors. She uses amazing hair products, very friendly staff, very good location. I normally don't pay more than $180 on my Japanese Straightening but it was worth it to spent $240 + haircut The place was clean, to me Yin is a Pro she cut and styles like magic, my hair is thick, wavy curly, long, coloured and dry with too much volume. Now I would recommend you to visit this place because they are excellent. After 4-5 hours later my hair looks amazing, soft, shiny. I'm looking forward to my new appointment. Patricia was a sweetheart too :) STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!! NO DISAPPOINTMENT!!

I came here to get my nails done, not my hair. The Shellac Manicure was being advertised for $30 dollars. Even though it's mostly a hair salon this review is for their nail service. The person attending me was really accommodating - she took off my old shellac without charge, and let me pick an accent nail with no fuss. She also spent time shaping them perfectly, and re-did one of my thumbs that had bubbled. It was detail oriented and clean (everything was sanitized). The only downside is that you can't see the TV from the station so it's a bit boring (they might want to flip the table) and there's only one person doing manicures so they can do solo trips but not outings with friends. Otherwise, it's good service at a great location (right near Yonge and Wellesley subway station). I would go back for another set of nails. Here's the instagram of my nails: http://instagram.com/p/wUuyZlMmZb/

If you are a guy looking for more than a barber clipper haircut, this is it! It is a hair salon at a reasonable price. Jennifer took the time to trim my hair with scissors and cut my hair according to my style. The shampoo and massage is a feature amongst Chinese salons and is much appreciated.

Please read my review. I paid 200.00 for this. So upset.

I paid 200.00 for the picture I have uploaded of my hair. I had blonde highlights at the end and specifically asked to colour correct since I was going red brown, so I wouldn't end up with two different colours. He said I didn't need to because I was going darker. I now clearly have two different colours. My hair cut is the worst hair cut I've ever had and ever seen. It's to the point where my friends asked if I went to first choice. Maybe I should have considering I paid 4 times the amount they would charge and would probably get a better result. Please take a look at the picture I have attached to the page. I went in to ask for a refund as everything about this was terrible and embarrassing. They offered to fix it but it's beyond repair in regards to the cut and I can not trust them To touch my hair again for obvious reasons. They said they couldn't refund me because they didn't know how to explain it to "the boss" and because the hairdresser spent two hours doing my hair. When I asked for the boss they said the lady who was talking to me was the boss? Which was clearly not the case with the previous statement about "not knowing what to tell the boss." A refund would mean two hours of the hairdressers time wasted? Well I wasted 200.00 of my money and 2 hours of my time. I have to walk around with my hair like this now until my sister in London Ontario can cut it all off. My sister is a hairdresser and when she saw this job done on my hair, she was so upset with how much I paid she emailed them herself and got no response. If I am too scared to let you "fix it" you should know there's a problem. Don't go here.

    Cut plus grey ombre dye!

I came across Hair District on Yelp as I was looking for a new hair salon to go to downtown. After seeing all the positive reviews, I thought I would give Hair District a shot. I wanted to cut a decent length off (about 3 inches), as well as dye my hair a grey ombre. I would like to start off by saying that all the staff at Hair District are very attentive and polite (I went to the Wellesley location). I also did not have to endure the forced small talk that you experience in many hair salons. Yin was my stylist and she was very helpful in the process. I originally wanted my hair to be dyed a solid ombre (the bottom portion of hair would fade into a solid grey colour); however, she suggested I do a highlight ombre (the bottom of my hair would still have some strips of my original colour) as it would be more natural and less harsh looking. I completely agreed with this as soon as she brought it to my attention. Also, the assistant at the salon (a young Japanese man) who washed my hair was very nice and gave me an excellent head massage! I was at the salon for about 7 hours (I know, very long). However, I know my hair is naturally very dark, so it would take some time for the bleach to sink in. As for the actual hair cut, I really liked it. I was going for a long textured bob, which is exactly what I got. As for the actual colour, the grey was slightly more of a warm tone than what I wanted (I was aiming for a more cooler blue tone) and it was not as much of a gradual fade as I would have liked. However, I still think the colour turned out great, and I truly love my new hair! The total cost of the cut, bleach (x2), and final dye was a little north of $300. All in all, I recommend Hair District for anyone looking for a good hair cut and colour, with fantastic service, and at a moderate price! Will definitely be coming back! Thank you Yin and the rest of the staff at Hair District.

Latest haircut - took 2.5 inches off the back to make it more even w/ the front. Love my textured lob.

I've been getting my haircut by Yin for a couple of years now and I've never been disappointed. Love the lay down washing stations and head massages. Plus Yin always gives me a great cut, listens to what I want and never gets "scissor happy" or takes off too much...in fact this last time I kept saying "no, more, cut more lol". Always easy to get an appt. and in Toronto the price to me is really great!

I live in NY so I have a U.S. bank and wasn't able to pay the $20 deposit because I don't have e-Transfer, but I emailed the salon and they said it was no problem and not to worry about it. I was able to use my Visa credit card (they also take Mastercard) to pay. If you do pay the deposit, $20 is deducted from your total. The hair washing station is really relaxing, with lie-flat chairs so your neck doesn't hurt and sparkling lights on the ceiling. I'm so happy with my cut ($80 CAD before tip) and I think I got a great value for the level of service. I highly recommend Sam and this salon, his technique was so meticulous and I love my cut.

Our appointment was for 11 am but at 1030, Amanda text us that Bella was stuck on a GO Bus and wouldn't be able to start until 1130. Normally that's not a big issue, but I was dealing with really tight timelines because of nap times and attention spans, so I couldn't just burn 30 more minutes than expected. I explained this to Amanda, and she said if I could get there soon, she would cut my daughter's hair. The salon opens at 11, but Amanda started with us at 1045. The level of customer service was unreal. Friendly, accommodating, apologetic and I got what I came there for - a sophisticated haircut for my daughter that wasn't just a "who cares you're a kid" cut. The salon is beautiful inside, the sparkling lights about the hair washing station was a nice touch. At the very end, Bella did show up and she seemed nice as well, but Amanda really came through for us. We will be back!!

So I went out on a whim during the Civic holiday dialled around in Chinatown to see if I can walk in for an appointment. Let's be real, there is no day off in Chinatown. Lucky me! Jane was free on the first call, and I did not need to wait or book appointments! $22 for a women's cut with cash only! What what?!?! Remember to tip! I usually pay at least double for a haircut, and can I honestly say it's double the quality of what I get from Jane? Nope. Jane took an after pic of my haircut. I only wanted a basic B hair chop with minimal layers at the end and she nailed it. Whoops forgot to take the before pic for comparison. You'll just have to imagine the girl from the Ring, that's me, hair to my waist. Jane and I had a good chat. Her native tongue is Cantonese, and she's giving me tips on how to style my hair. She mentions now with the pandemic, her client base is much more diverse. For health and safety, she is always masked and I put on a transparent disposable salon gown. I was the only person there! Likely, people didn't know she kept the store opened on Civic holiday. The place is very spacious for one person operating the whole shop. Jane explains she operates all three chairs there and switching between chairs for the next client coming in so that the chair doesn't stay warm for the next person.
