This is a small place split between a cafe and lounge, making it a pleasant place to dine. I had the Pad Thai and it was excellent. I topped it off with the chocolate covered key lime pie. The place is tucked inside a five business "mall" right off of the main drag in Solomons. Easy to miss. Other reviews comment on the potential wait for seating. We arrived at 6pm on a Thursday and had our pick among five tables. But the small dining room was full by 6:30. The food. I ordered a chopped salad tossed with homemade blue cheese dressing (about eight bucks) and the appetizer scallops (which some other reviewer labeled the "best thing I ever ate" (around $15)) and finished by splitting the creme brulee and a tiramisu cheesecake with my wife and ten-year-old son. My son had a salad that included pear and apple with a balsamic dressing (around $8) and black bean soup (around $11). My wife had the black bean soup paired with a an "Asian" style salad ($7). I feel bad rating this place 4 star, because we did not order specials or their more signature dishes. I didn't want to pay $27 for a crab-stuffed trout even though it sounds divine. The salads were $7.95. Honestly, please call it $8! I love that they tossed the salad before service--why don't most places in the U.S. do that? They all tasted good, but the ingredients were pretty standard for such expensive salads. The black bean soup came with several nice touches: a slice of fried queso (very unusual looking slab plopped down on the soup...it doesn't melt into the soup so the family just fished it out onto the lip of the bowl for dissection), fresh pico (very nice crunch) and some salsa. My wife and son declined the sour cream...what where they thinking? The soup was satisfying and quite spicy. The scallop appetizer was beautiful. I expected tiny bay scallops and got three good-sized scallops seared perfectly, paired with basil, tomato, bacon and a creamy, spicy, sauce on the crusty bread. It wasn't the best thing I have ever had--that is a bit much for any dish to live up to--and I can't say it completely worked for me. I want to pick up the bread and eat it. Couldn't do that with these. And either the bacon or the sauce seemed too much. Dessert was yummy. Creme Brulee delivered. Served warm! The Tiramisu cheesecake was good, but we could not figure out why they used canned whip-cream next to a "home-made" dessert. But it was a great finish. And we watched the sunset under the bridge and over the red barn...one of those surreal visions that makes a night truly memorable. We visited this restaurant when my wife and I stayed at a local bed and breakfast. Solomons Island doesn't exactly have a burgeoning list if dining choices, and if there's a main part of town, CD Cafe could be said to be "off the beaten path". But we found it before the entrance to town, and had lunch the first day we were in Solomons. I chose a cheeseburger, and it was cooked perfectly, medium-rare as Ii like it. Everyone knows that it's not just the quality of the beef that makes a great burger--and this was high-quality, hand-made--but the bun it's served on deserves equal billing. And I hate when restaurants serve burgers on oversized buns. Not here. Not only was it perfectly-sized to handle the just-right portion of the burger, it was fresh and just buttery enough to form the perfect flavor combination. I love my burgers unadorned with massive slices if tomato and wedges of lettuce, so I ordered grilled onions with CD's choice of cheese--a terrific Gruyere. My side was a well-constructed potato salad, not too creamy with just the right amount of salt. The place is small, maybe just 40 seats plus a small bar. I'm sure this helped the 2 members of the wait staff service the lunch crowd, but our service was stellar nonetheless. It's clear they place a premium not only on great food but above-standard service. We tried to get in for dinner the following evening and weren't willing to wait the hour, so we dined at the Next Door Lounge, which shares ownership and the kitchen with CD Cafe. The food at CD cafe was delicious and very unique. We tried the curry chicken salad and the roasted vegetable sandwich. Both were amazing. For an appetizer we had the savory cheesecake which was a goat cheese in a warm red pepper sauce that was slightly sweet. I brought my parents who can be picky- as well as my two kids who both have severe allergies. They were busy (always a good sign) but quick to accommodate us. The specials were well chosen, and the menu was fantastic. Something for everyone. When it came to my boys who have sever allergic reactions to certain foods- the waitresses were very knowledgable and incredibly understanding. They checked all the ingredients and I even saw the waitress and chef taking the time to talk so they thoroughly understood the allergies and changed ingredients if necessary. My parents were blown away with their orders. My boys were thrilled and ate everything right up. There was a chilled beat soup I got a bowl of and it was so great I wanted to lick the bowl. I went to the Cafe at the suggestion of a friend while I was visiting in Hollywood. There were three of us in our party and the the food was absolutely amazing. After Liz read the specials I didn't need to read the menu any further. What did I have? I don't know. It was a delicious meal that I will not forget but obviously can't remember specifics. There were cheesy grits with Gouda, pork, pancetta, klamata, and goat cheese! I will be back the next time I am in town. It was too delicious and I will not miss the opportunity again! Came here for dinner after a cold sail from Deale in November. The food was fresh, tasty, and well cooked. The do not take reservation, but we apparently hit a slow spot as we were quickly seated. This place always has a line before it opens. Fills fast and always has a line of expectant customers waiting for the chance to take your taste buds on a trip to oral ecstacy! NO JOKE! You will exclaim "Oh My God!" after every delicious, melting, morsel you place in your mouth! I am so impressed with the CD Cafe. Not only are the dishes and service always great, but I applaud their policy to not provide straws unless specifically requested. Why should we all forgo the straw? It's something we use for mere minutes then toss, where it clogs our waterways and threatens wildlife. I urge everyone to try to skip all single-use plastic items. While in town on business, we found this wonderful place by accident since our usual place was closed for the Super Bowl. We were treated like royalty from the moment we walked in until our server chased us down because we forgot our doggy bag. We both had Deb's special because of the glowing review of our server. She even suggested replacing the wild rice with the risotto. We were both smitten with our choice. Then we split the Key Lime Semi Freddo for dessert. It was absolutely devine! Terrible. First tried to eat lunch and got turned away; they said they weren't open. Then tried to go back again at 9:15pm on Memorial Day weekend for dessert and coffee. Even though tables were eating, the extremely rude and obnoxious waitress said they were again closed- no sign on the door- and practically shoved my friends and I out the door. We walked by an hour later and there were still people sitting in the restaurant eating. Needless to say, I will never dine at this place. I ordered creme brulee for my birthday. I was not told it was NUTELLA cream brulee. it was creme brulee made with NUTELLA ( HAZELNUTS)????? I think that any patron should be warned when there is something made with nuts = nut allergies. CD cafe was once the nice restaurant to go to on solomons. Unfortunately this is not true anymore. We have been here a dozen times or more. Over the past year the quality has gone way downhill. Our visit last week will be our last. First they need to change the menu and clean them. The menu has never changed in years. We typically order one of the specials. Our appetizer came out cold and we sent it back. They microwaved and it came back lukewarm. Salad was inedible. The dressing was overpowered by anchovies. Main course of fish special was okay. Fish was excellent. However topping of crab was not lump but shredded bits. Not what I would expect-in Maryland. Service was good. Too many other choices to come back here. read more

The food is always wonderfully eclectic and the service is always decent (if at times a little slow). The food is all wonderfully fresh, very little (if any) pre-packaged items from this place. It might take a little longer to get your food but if you get a seat by the window it's not a problem as the view is entertaining. I recommend the savory cheesecake, the house salad (they make a tasty dressing in house), the roasted vegetarian sandwich and the curry chicken salad. (I don't go often for dinner so lunch is what I know best). They have a decent wine selection and their extended waiting area (bar next door) is interesting and comfortable. Customer service has never been great here, but today was worse than usual. We asked what the soup of the day was when we sat down, the waitress said "I can't tell you until after I get your drinks". The curry salad is usually good, but it didn't taste the same today. We asked if it was a different recipe. Black bean and chorizo soup used to be very good, but has gone way down, for $10.75 is way over priced. We asked the waitress to split the checks, she said we don't do that here, you will need do figure it out. Ten years ago the CD was reliable and innovative. We tried it again last night, with the same disappointing results as our last time a month ago. The menu hasn't changed in ten years, and their "specials" are a combination of too many ingredients sloshed on ordinary items in an attempt to disguise yesterday's leftovers. Last night my wife ordered the NY strip, it was tasteless and tough. Obviously frozen to long. My selection was the Mussels and scallops over Linguini. The tasteless scallops swam in a watery "cream sauce." The CD is capable of better, we think they have lost their way, and are riding on past reputation and location in Solomons. read more

My husband and I have been here twice. Both times the food was amazing. Seating is a bit limited. The food and service are both wonderful. Stopped in for lunch and the brunch menu looked great. My friend got the seafood omelet which they enjoyed and I had a few bites and thought it was very good. I got the shrimp tacos which were disappointing. 2 small tacos filled with chopped up plain raw vegetables and about 4 tasty shrimp and a good sauce. I ended up eating just the shrimp as the raw vegetables were just yucky and out of place. The side of black beans was lackluster in flavor and watery and filled with chopped raw onion. Shrimp tacos definitely not worth $16. Service was meh - waitress doing nothing for over 5 minutes while we watched our food sit at the pickup window. Probably will not return. read more

Not great... Not worth the $60 for two entrees. Got the Shrimp Sauté. The risotto that came with it was not good... I've made better risotto from the box. My husband got the flounder sandwich, which you can't really eat as a sandwich.
