Pulled in, thought they were closed. No one else in the dining room or parking lot. Dead flies sitting in every window sill. The kitchen is watching some football game screaming in the back. Unprofessional, gross, and dirty. Would have left if I drove myself but I didn't. If your bar is that slow, you have more than enough time to clean. Wow. Can't say enough good things about my experience here. On a dreary January night I was really excited to see that Fitzies was opening up to do a seafood buffet. Stoped in with my family and the place was hopping. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was fun. The staff was excited to see everyone and made everyone's night enjoyable. You could tell they were people who really enjoyed their job and wanted everyone's night to be great. We were even treated to the owner, Dan stopping by and make sure we had everything we needed. He made a point to visit every table and was working shoulder to shoulder with the staff the whole time we were there. The seafood buffet was great. Crab balls, shrimp, fried oysters clams. They even had a carving station with top round and chicken. Something for everyone and we can't wait to stop back in the spring or if they open up again this winter! read more

We went to Fitzie's a few years ago and had a less than favorable experience, but we tried them again today and it is fair to give them an updated review. You can scroll back and read my previous one so I won't write everything again, but I will tell you that the service was significantly better, the food was still sort of in the middle, but the view carries the review! It is worth going to this place although the food is a little pricey, the view more than makes up for it. read more

I love this place. It's a boat ride away and the orange slushies are divine. The crab cake is excellent. Fried shrimp was great. The hush puppies are awesome. The atmosphere is definitely a water side bar and it has an excellent view of Breton bay. Gas is available. Docking is available. read more

The crab cakes was good, not great. But I feel like it's probably the best you're going to get in St. Mary's. It was good for southern Maryland. It was a little filler and could use a little more seasoning. Good effort though. The cold slaw was not great. Just basic and dry. Hush puppies was good but a little over cooked. read more

This is a great local spot for seafood w/ a gorgeous view. All of the items that we've had are super fresh and quite tasty. Portion sizes are excellent also. We typically share an appetizer & entree or sandwich and leave stuffed!!! Prices are great also considering this is fresh seafood. I've noticed a lot of seafood restaurants in the area use frozen seafood, especially when it comes to shrimp. Not Fitzie's! They use fresh shrimp. We've only gotten their fried but this past weekend we saw a pound of the fresh steamed shrimp go by and it looked amazing! They have a nice outdoor seating area w/ small tiki bar. Although its hit or miss if the bar is actually open serving drinks...if its not open it usually takes quite awhile to get your drink order. Which speaking of drinks one negative is they don't have a drink menu, you'd think w/ the outdoor area & tiki they'd have a some different tropical drinks or crushes. Also some times they aren't staffed well enough. This past weekend when we went there were two waitresses serving the 10 or so outside tables they have and one waitress handling all inside tables. So it did take a long while to get drinks and food. I felt bad you could tell our waitress was overwhelmed, but she was super friendly and accommodating. They had run out of a lot of dishes also (thankfully we got the last order or crab dip!) Luckily the weather was perfect and there was a gorgeous breeze so we didn't mind the long wait. read more

I'm starting to think we are invisible. The bad service reviews from last August continue now. I was hoping they had worked it out, but this first visit may be or last. Two servers have completely ignored us while greeting guests who came in behind us and walking right past us even after we greeted them. My husband even went inside attempting to get a drink to no avail. Wow. (So something I forgot to go back and add after we found out how the story ended... We did ultimately eat. To this day, several months later, we joke about driving past several farms selling asparagus en route to Fitzies, only to be served canned mushy asparagus as the side. And bonus- my husband ended up barfing within s couple hours of eating there. He ate the "scallops," I didn't. First time I've ever known him to throw up. So the one star stands.) read more

Nestled on a small beach from which you can see Virginia on a clear day, Fitzie's is a great location to get away and enjoy great food. I've only had the pleasure of visiting Fitzie's twice and each time was for a basketball celebration. The buffet presentation was excellent, the food was plentiful, and the servers attentive and polite. I could imagine this being a wonderful summer location to dock your boat, get some good grub, and then sit on the pier and catch up with old friends. I look forward to returning here. read more

I'll call this place hit-or-miss. The view is utterly outstanding, the seafood is usually on point, and some of the other food is really good (the mozzarella moons, for instance). But sometimes I get cold, pre-packaged french fries from Sysco, and it makes me go "meh". Also, there are instances where the service sucks out loud. When having dinner with the family, it took forever to keep the Yuenglings/vodka/wine flowing to our table, not to mention we had to wait damn near an hour to get the checks after we finished our dinners. The person who said that four waitresses recently quit...I can believe it. My last visit had prompt several days ago had prompt, concise service, however. I should also add this is literally the closest restaurant to my house (even closer than the McDonald's in Leonardtown), so I'll likely be back in the future - even if it wouldn't be my first choice for dinner, seafood or otherwise. read more

Our visit started out with no hostess waiting for us. We just walked in and didn't know what we were supposed to do. A nice man from the kitchen came out and said "sit were ever you want and I will get a server for you". So we sat down at a table and waited for a few minutes for our server to come and take our drink order. He came back with our drinks. One person in our party ordered coffee, when he gave them their coffee he didn't bring a spoon or and sugar and cream. They asked for some sugar and cream. He came back with sugar but he said they were out of cream. The person drank their first cup black. They got their second cup and the server brought sugar and some milk. We ordered some appetizers the steamed shrimp were very good however that was the best dish of the night. I ordered the Shillelagh which comes with their  famous crab cake, scallops, fried shrimp, and chef's fish selection. It was Luke warm and most of the coating on the fried scallops was falling off. The fried shrimp were good and battered well. They were lukewarm as well. Everyone in our party of six didn't really like food. The service stunk the server was nowhere to be seen. Didn't get silverware until our entries arrived. Erik's have been nice to have with our appetizers. We won't be going back. read more

Drinks prices are very good too but it seems like the last few times going in there the service really is lacking!! But the waitresses are running around and owner is sweating and trying to make people Happy but if only they had more help there it would be a perfect place to eat drink and Be Merry!!! The outside is soooo nice! I have never had a bad meal there so I am giving 5 stars and the view is so nice! But I sure hope the next time we go there we could get better service!! Stopped by for lunch today on a perfect Saturday. First time here and found it by accident. All I can say is wow! What a great little gem in southern Maryland. Definitely a place for locals but very welcoming to newcomers. The staff was great, very friendly and attentive. Food was exactly what we wanted. We split the crab balls appetizer, delicious! I have the steamed shrimp with hush puppies and coleslaw, the wife had crab cake with salad. Exactly the kind of food you'd expect at a marina restaurant, fresh tasting and delicious. What really pushes Fitzie's over the top of over similar places in the area is the view. From the tiki area outside to sitting at the bar you are surrounded by amazing water views with boats coming and going. If you're in the area looking for fresh local seafood; give Fitzie's a try, you won't be disappointed! read more

We thought that we'd give this restaurant a try since my friend said she saw it while kayaking nearby. Big mistake. There were a lot of cars and bikes in the lot so we were hoping it would be good. Wrong. We went to an outside table; and it was about an hour wait until a waitress came by and if we'd like a drink. Then it took another half hour to get our drink and a menu. Another 30 min to get our order taken, and then about another hour and a half to get our food. My friend had the fish n chips, good but not great for the price. The cream of crab soup was very ve re y good, and I had fried flounder with a salad and fries. Good not great, very pricey for avg food. Our waitress felt bad and gave us a freebasket of cheese and crackers, and a free basket of fried crab balls during our wait, which were also delicious. I really wanted to love this place. The location is spot on. The staff were polite and friendly. But the food was absolutely terrible. Ordered the Erin Go Braugh seafood pasta in garlic/wine/butter. The pasta was a weird brownish color and tasted as if it had been cooked in dirty water. That was about the only flavor in the whole dish other than an old, fish, seafood aftertaste. There was no seasoning that could be discerned at all. The rockfish was greasy and appeared to have been cooked in old oil -- it was burnt looking. Flavor was mediocre. The hush puppies were good. The chicken tenders my son had were tasty. The crab dip was decent. Would not return unless it was just to have a beer and enjoy the view. read more

Went for dinner last night and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was since reviews were all over the place. Service was good and the fried crab cake dinner was fantastic. The crab cakes were excellent and had little filler inside. Husband had salmon and scallops which were also above average but not as good as the crab cakes! Chose this restaurant to bring my college son based on the lovely waterfront pictures. What a huge disappointment. The outdoor seating is limited, plenty of tables but not enough non-broken umbrellas. So we had to eat inside. Clearly an employee or two did not show and our waitress let us know in no uncertain terms that we would have to wait and all customers were causing her stress. I wanted to leave but we'd driven 30 minutes and stayed. Food was ok. Never had worse service by someone who was too stressed to be nice or even close to friendly. Place has great potential but not today or any time soon. Will not be back and can not recommend. Everyone has a bad day but that's not my problem. Oh and the bathroom was filthy. read more

Family Favorite and hands down best appetizers on the Lower Potomac (or any where, for that matter). The highlight of any summer weekend is having weather conditions that allow us to boat across the Potomac to Fitzies. It never disappoints and we always order the same things because they are all the best: Crab dip - deliciously creamy with distinguishable lumps of crab served with baguette bread Crab Balls - deep fried with the right mix of crab and binding material Mozzarella Moon Pies - unique size and shape, cooked to perfection Wings - crispy, meaty and flavorful IMO, all of the above are 10/10. Fitzies also has a gorgeous view and this summers outdoor seating with huts offers more comfort and shade. The servers are nice and usually efficient though we are usually there before peak hours. Just wish Fitzies has a satellite restaurant on the Northern Neck side of the Potomac so we could visit more frequently. read more

Great destination while out boating. We pulled up to the gas dock and were greeted by a courteous employee who tied up and helped with the fuel. The kids stretched their legs and played in the sand. The adults kicked back in the adirondack chairs and enjoyed a IPAs, orange crushes and daiquiris. Lunch consisted of Maryland's finest crab cakes & steamed shrimp.
