Their website says they are open 7 days a week. I came on a Tuesday at 3:30. I drove 2 hrs about $60 in gas to get there and the place was dead and doors were locked. I thought y'all closed at 5? So says your website. I called multiple times to confirm before heading that way but no one answered. Couldnt get in touch with anyone. Wasted my time & money. I loved this venue! Getting there was easier than expected thanks to signs along the road as well as helpful staff members showing where to park and where your seats are. It's an easy walk down to the mouth of the cave and even easier once inside; they also have cars that shuttle people to and from the entrance if need be. I do recommend wearing a few layers or bring a heavier jacket because the longer I sat in the cave the colder I became. All in all I enjoyed my experience at the caverns and am looking forward to attending another show when I can! read more

This was super cool! I would highly recommend it for anyone who likes live music. I can't tell you enough how happy we were to do this. I mean really, how many places can you watch live music in a cave?!?! We aren't super into bluegrass, but we appreciate live music and even more so we appreciate good music. This had both. It's kind of a haul from Nashville, but the drive off of the highway is pleasant. There are a ton of gas stations so don't worry, you won't run out of gas in the middle of nowhere. Parking is a little tricky, they need to park you so make sure to build in time for that. There is also only one road in so it will back up a bit. Once you are parked you head up to the store to grab your tickets. The grounds are very pretty and wooded so stop a second to take in a deep breath of fresh air! From there you will walk down a pebble path to the cave. It's like a 5 minute walk. Once you get to the cave a guide leads you down to the venue. It's another 5-8 minute walk. The hill down to the cave floor is pretty steep, but not unmanageable. Once down there are chairs and picnic tables. You can grab a seat wherever. You can also sit on the cave wall. While we were there a storm rolled through. We had no idea, except that the lights flashed. SCARY!!! It was fine, they have generators. This isn't their first rodeo! The bands are on schedule so make sure you arrive on time. They have a snack bar that serves soda, coffee, candy, and chili dogs. There is also a merch table and they have bathrooms. There were plenty of kids in the cave and even some babies. It's really a great experience for people of all ages. If you are thinking about it, then just do it! This isn't something you will regret. read more

This venue is INCREDIBLE for pictures! All of my pictures at this place turned out beautifully! The lighting on the caves really makes the perfect backdrop for any performance. It just didn't feel real, it was so beautiful. The reason I'm giving this place only 3 stars (despite my INCREDIBLE pictures) is because of the overwhelming smell of sulfur. I guess this is just a "temporary" issue that they're experiencing right now during Bluegrass Underground, and they said that they are working on getting it fixed. But this definitely had a negative impact on my experience. Also, this place is COLD. Bring a winter jacket. Wear a couple layers of socks. Bring mittens. You will be so happy that you did. I was freezing my butt off in there with just a heavy sweater and a pair of long jeans. I ended up leaving early, because I couldn't feel my toes. read more

The overall beauty of the grounds, as inside the caverns, is absolutely breathtaking. All of the staff was so pleasant and on top of keeping the place clean. I have been dying to go for a while now and could not have asked for a better event to take me there (Pretty Lights). The experience did not disappoint. Very hopeful to return again soon. read more

THE CAVE TOUR was amazing!! The tour guide was FIVE star! Not only full of knowledge and infectious enthusiasm but truly wants you to have a great experience!! My sister and son and I wanted to do a cave tour and chose this one without knowing the PBS roots or history of the venue and concerts. What spoke to us is the uniqueness of a cave with indoor music and concert abilities. No other cave offered this level of ingenuity while maintaining respect for the history of the cave. Then we get there and meet the two very nice gentlemen that own it and who also provide excellent customer service as well as do an excellent job as tour guide. There are a couple interactive spots you can climb through if you choose. The historic marking were all pointed out. The audio component when the lights go out in one area of the cave is genius. This is a true gem that shouldn't be passed up. No rushing on this tour as they want you to soak up the experience. We'll be watching now for concerts here and are sure to return!! read more

Took my sisters to see a show at The Caverns in Pelham, TN, and it was an incredible experience. The cave is beautiful, and the sound was very clear. In addition to the great acoustics, and the beautiful place, the staff at The Caverns were very friendly and helpful. Wow what an experience at this place! We purchased tickets to see Los Lobos on 5/4 and to make a long story short they couldn't make it to the show. So the show started very late and it was pouring rain with an opening group and then almost two hours later they informed us they were not going to make it. I thought it was a joke but no indeed true! Received an email from the Caverns saying they are rescheduling for 9/28 which is great however there is no way we can make it that date. The cave is quite a journey and we were in town for that weekend and bought tickets seriously the day off as something to do. So there is no way we r making the trip all the way from Southern California for this. When I request a refund they got silent and unresponsive...? Which is a little concerning. Went on the guided cave tour, which was awesome and our guide was really knowledgable and informative. He also recmmended a trip to Greeter's fall and the Fiery Gizzard South at some local parks. What an awesome concept and fun experience! A bluegrass concert 333 ft underground in a cave, with cool acoustics from the natural rock formations. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the area. It was affordable, entertaining and a lot of fun. Notes: It's really cold - all year round! It's 56 degrees on average down there. Wear long pants, bring a jacket and I recommend no sandals - your feet will freeze. Even though you are 333 feet down there is seating, concessions (you are only allowed to bring water in) and bathrooms. Also - there's no cell phone service down there. read more

Don't listen if they say rain delay because the band still keeps playing. They only have 2 person at security so the venue should employee more people. We missed half the show because the venture was slow to check people in and told us it was a rain delay when in reality the band started on time. read more

I spent $380 on tickets for a concert last March. The concert was canceled due to COVID. They announced no refunds on tickets but we could use the tickets at the rescheduled event in November. They also said we could try to sell the tickets through a partner website of theirs. Now they just informed me that the concert in November has been cancelled. Oh, and forgot to mention...we live 8 hours away! They basically just stole $380 from me. A terrible way to do business. read more

This past weekend, 11-2, we attended our first concert at The Caverns. Big Head Todd and the Monsters are always a must see for us whenever they are close enough. We had heard of the Caverns last year when the BHTM fans were retelling their experience seeing them perform there so we put this venue on our must see list and we are so glad we did! The Caverns made seeing our favorite band a special experience so now it's going to be a yearly event for us. We'll be watching for more concert schedules often hoping to catch more of our favorite artists to perform here. We live south of Atlanta but this venue is worth the drive. read more

I'd heard of Cumberland Caverns since I was a kid, but only recently learned there were bluegrass music events held there. (I think I saw Ricky Skaggs on a PBS show and first learned of the Bluegrass Underground venue.) Well, I just had to check this out! As it turned out - - what a treat! First off, this past Saturday posed an excellent day for the ~2 hr. drive from Nashville. (If you are on the east side of town, I highly recommend jumping off I-40E at Lebanon and taking the more scenic route along TN-26/US-70 beyond Watertown and on through Smithville. It certainly beat a boring I-24 trip hands down!) The event started at 1pm and we arrived about 11:45am. This permitted a leisurely pace and no need to rush. Parking is provided on a small gravel lot and a larger, adjacent grass field. With the nice weather, this was no problem. (I suspect rain could lead to a more "soggy" experience, though.) It was just a short walk to the ticket office/souvenir shop to pick up our tickets (actually, wristbands) and then a quarter-mile (?) stroll on a wide gravel path to the cave entrance. A line had already formed. There were ~80 people ahead of us. (Note: tickets are "general admission," so early arrival is advised.) At roughly Noon, they began admission and we walked into the cave, apparently descending 333 feet by walking along a dirt path through the cave about 1/8 mile in distance. This took us to the main performance area - the "Volcano Room" - where there was seating for ~400 people. (see picture.) The performance began right on time (at 1pm) and featured The SteelDrivers. They were EXCELLENT: Great on-stage presence, good blend of instruments and a variety of vocals that covered traditional bluegrass sound to new paces and intonations that were very pleasing! (see picture) The Volcano Room provided great acoustics, too! They played for about 1:45 minutes and returned for a brief encore. All in all, this was a thoroughly enjoyable event, with an entertaining and satisfying group of very talented musicians! I highly recommend the experience! A few planning thoughts: 1. Cave Temperature - They claim the Volcano Room has a consistent temp of 56 degrees. Honestly, I found it very comfortable. I wore long pants and a short-sleeved shirt - I took a jacket, but never put it on. (My wife brought a sweatshirt and put it on part-way through the performance.) 2. Seating - consider bringing a seat cushion for added comfort. The provided seating is metal chairs and a few wooden benches...Some people brought their own lawn chairs, but the terrain is a bit too uneven for those, in my opinion. We chose seating on one of the wooden benches (gaining a somewhat elevated side-view of the stage.) But, the ol' butt can get numb after a while on a flat wooden bench! 3. Bathrooms - There are bathrooms provided both behind the souvenir shop, as well as at the back of the Volcano Room. I'd suggest you use the facilities before entering the cave (appeared to be less congestion/shorter lines). 4. Eating - We bought sandwiches and water at the concession stand (in the rear of the Volcano Room), but they only offered the standard concession stand fare. Service was extremely slow and moderately disorganized (Note: cash only, too). It'd be a pity to be stuck in line when the performance begins... I'd suggest you pack a lunch and bring it in with you (permitted). In summary, this was a very enjoyable experience. With the right performance, I will return! read more

This is an incredible venue. After a not too long walk from the main building to the cave you enter the cool Cumberland Caverns. A meandering walk brings you through the caverns (take your time and look around, it's awesome) and it eventually opens up to the Volcano Room, 333 feet below the ground.The room is huge, holds around 600 people. The desent into the cave is a bit steep, so be careful. It's fully equipped with concession stands and rest rooms. There is a grand chanellier above you. Whether you sit in the chairs provided, or perch yourself on the many rock surfaces, you will have a good view of the stage. We saw Old Salt Union and Lonesome River Band. Both groups were outstanding. The sound quality is superb, but as you can imagine, stringed instruments need to be retuned on several occasions. I can't imagine a better concert experience, it really is unique. We plan on returning as often as we can. read more

This may be one of the greatest concerts I've ever attended. I attended the 3-day pbs taping of bluegrass underground. Although I only made it to a little over one day of shows, I was impressed. In awe of the venue, the bands, everything. Being underground for the concert puts you inside a concert venue inside a cavern. As you walk in, down into the cave, you move past cave formations and a lit underground pool. Eventually you hear the music and enter into a open room under towering rock walls and a huge chandelier. The seating area and the stage is small and personal so you're fairly close to the bands. The bands ranged from raw bluegrass to soul and each one gave an amazing performance and had me rocking in my seat---er I mean, my rock. read more

Went on the 1-hour walking tour with my husband and two daughters (10 & 7), led by Volley. We had a great time exploring Big Mouth and Big Room caves! Perfect for adults and kids. They encourage exploring inside the caves, and Volley did a fantastic job explaining the historic and scientific facts about the gave in a way that kept my kids interested. read more

I would say the worse concert experience ever, except this venue is so bad I couldn't stay for the show! The old cavern has a scenic walk through to a spacious cavern that was cool and dry even on rainy days. This cave had chairs sitting in an inch of wet muck while water dropped from the ceiling onto my head and the seats. Cold wet and nothing pretty or scenic about it. Couldn't sit anything on the floor, purse because of the water everywhere and it's a cold cave!! Ugh! I've never been so miserable, and I've never left a venue before the show even started and I love The SteelDrivers! I can't believe this place is allowed to operate. read more

First Timer. Always wanted to hear Bluegrass Underground live, and got to see Blue Highway this past weekend. Unbelievable music and acoustics. Not a bad seat anywhere, and lighting was perfect for the venue. All the staff were fantastic. Wife is hobbling with a cane, and they went out of their way to get her close to the cave and to get her to our car at the end. I would have loved a longer show, but the 1 1/2 hr show was fantastic. Everyone needs to be aware that as a cave it is damp, dripping and cool. Don't plan on putting purses or jackets on the floor. I would also wish there was a policy on babies, because with the smaller size venue, and great acoustics, the crying and small children were very distracting to those around them. This venue is not for babies or small children. Just saying. But I will be back especially when wife's knee is better. 8/24/19. Saw Rhonda Vincent and her opener Dori Freeman. The Caverns is made for this type of show. Acoustics were unbelievable. Dori was great. Rhonda Vincent was fantastic. High energy bluegrass. Promise Land harmony was the best. Will continue to make this an annual event. Again I think children under 16 should not be included, unless they love bluegrass. Had probably an 8 and 12 yr old in front of us. Very distracting. When parents have to give kids a phone game app they to occupy them they shouldn't be there. And parents should respect other ticket holders read more

Fantastic venue! Nothing like nature's air conditioner to keep you cool. The sound was great, everyone was friendly and seemed to be having a good time. My 11 year old loved seeing Keller there and was even able to squirrel his way to the front for a few dances! The walk from the ticketing barn to the caverns is not far. The employees were always friendly. They were even friendly when they had to tell the little one to quit climbing the rocks a couple of times (hard to resist!) We can't wait to go back! read more

This place is great! Worth our drive from Atlanta. Visited the former location many times and loved it. The new location in Pelham, TN is more convenient and comfortable. Seats are comfortable and not overly crowded, and sound is very good. Sight lines are terrific. Staff is incredibly friendly. During tonight's show (Los Lobos), the band's plane was turned around on the way to the venue. The Caverns' staff handled it perfectly. After the opening band played an extended set, the staff apologized and explained the situation to the audience, told us the new date, invited everyone to the rescheduled show, offered everyone a free beverage, and kept the party going for another hour. Despite the disappointing news, people were dancing and smiling and having a great time. I'll definitely be back for the rescheduled show and others. This is a solid venue that cares about it's customers. read more

We saw Old Crow Medicine Show on 08 Sep 19...fabulous acoustics and very memorable performance !! The only downside was standing for 41/2 hours. A real challenge for 73 years...but the show and the underground venue made it all worth while. We'll be back. read more

So my wife discovered this place on the internet, and we scheduled a tour. We're new to Tennessee and were looking for exploration opportunities in the age of COVID-19. We drove to the Caverns, but a few miles out our car started acting strangely. As we pulled into the gates, my car stalled out completely. We were out of cell service (AT&T, at least). Huge bummer potential, especially since I had a ton of work done on it right before we moved here last month. The owner, Todd, and a couple of other patrons pushed my car out of the road. Then Todd said all the repair shops are likely closed since it's late Saturday afternoon. Let me make some calls for you while you take the tour. Relax and enjoy yourselves. Well, the tour was great. The caverns were impressive. Deep and dark (once the lights were turned off). We also went to the performance room. This is dug out of the living rock, the water diverted that had formed the cavern. While we were touring the place, the owner called his friend Matt, who drove 40 minutes to come help us. Within fifteen minutes, he had sorted out that a hose clamp had come loose, draining all my coolant. Hose reattached, coolant replaced, we were able to head home in safety and comfort. Not only is the place fantastic, but the hospitality and helpfulness of the people completely lived up to Southern reputation. I can't wait until they can start having shows again. In the meantime, I will make due with Bluegrass Underground on PBS. Thanks, guys! You made a possible disaster into a great experience and memory for my family. Kirk Dietrick read more
