Went on the 1-hour walking tour with my husband and two daughters (10 & 7), led by Volley. We had a great time exploring Big Mouth and Big Room caves! Perfect for adults and kids. They encourage exploring inside the caves, and Volley did a fantastic job explaining the historic and scientific facts about the gave in a way that kept my kids interested. read more

I would say the worse concert experience ever, except this venue is so bad I couldn't stay for the show! The old cavern has a scenic walk through to a spacious cavern that was cool and dry even on rainy days. This cave had chairs sitting in an inch of wet muck while water dropped from the ceiling onto my head and the seats. Cold wet and nothing pretty or scenic about it. Couldn't sit anything on the floor, purse because of the water everywhere and it's a cold cave!! Ugh! I've never been so miserable, and I've never left a venue before the show even started and I love The SteelDrivers! I can't believe this place is allowed to operate. read more

First Timer. Always wanted to hear Bluegrass Underground live, and got to see Blue Highway this past weekend. Unbelievable music and acoustics. Not a bad seat anywhere, and lighting was perfect for the venue. All the staff were fantastic. Wife is hobbling with a cane, and they went out of their way to get her close to the cave and to get her to our car at the end. I would have loved a longer show, but the 1 1/2 hr show was fantastic. Everyone needs to be aware that as a cave it is damp, dripping and cool. Don't plan on putting purses or jackets on the floor. I would also wish there was a policy on babies, because with the smaller size venue, and great acoustics, the crying and small children were very distracting to those around them. This venue is not for babies or small children. Just saying. But I will be back especially when wife's knee is better. 8/24/19. Saw Rhonda Vincent and her opener Dori Freeman. The Caverns is made for this type of show. Acoustics were unbelievable. Dori was great. Rhonda Vincent was fantastic. High energy bluegrass. Promise Land harmony was the best. Will continue to make this an annual event. Again I think children under 16 should not be included, unless they love bluegrass. Had probably an 8 and 12 yr old in front of us. Very distracting. When parents have to give kids a phone game app they to occupy them they shouldn't be there. And parents should respect other ticket holders read more

Fantastic venue! Nothing like nature's air conditioner to keep you cool. The sound was great, everyone was friendly and seemed to be having a good time. My 11 year old loved seeing Keller there and was even able to squirrel his way to the front for a few dances! The walk from the ticketing barn to the caverns is not far. The employees were always friendly. They were even friendly when they had to tell the little one to quit climbing the rocks a couple of times (hard to resist!) We can't wait to go back! read more

This place is great! Worth our drive from Atlanta. Visited the former location many times and loved it. The new location in Pelham, TN is more convenient and comfortable. Seats are comfortable and not overly crowded, and sound is very good. Sight lines are terrific. Staff is incredibly friendly. During tonight's show (Los Lobos), the band's plane was turned around on the way to the venue. The Caverns' staff handled it perfectly. After the opening band played an extended set, the staff apologized and explained the situation to the audience, told us the new date, invited everyone to the rescheduled show, offered everyone a free beverage, and kept the party going for another hour. Despite the disappointing news, people were dancing and smiling and having a great time. I'll definitely be back for the rescheduled show and others. This is a solid venue that cares about it's customers. read more

We saw Old Crow Medicine Show on 08 Sep 19...fabulous acoustics and very memorable performance !! The only downside was standing for 41/2 hours. A real challenge for 73 years...but the show and the underground venue made it all worth while. We'll be back. read more

So my wife discovered this place on the internet, and we scheduled a tour. We're new to Tennessee and were looking for exploration opportunities in the age of COVID-19. We drove to the Caverns, but a few miles out our car started acting strangely. As we pulled into the gates, my car stalled out completely. We were out of cell service (AT&T, at least). Huge bummer potential, especially since I had a ton of work done on it right before we moved here last month. The owner, Todd, and a couple of other patrons pushed my car out of the road. Then Todd said all the repair shops are likely closed since it's late Saturday afternoon. Let me make some calls for you while you take the tour. Relax and enjoy yourselves. Well, the tour was great. The caverns were impressive. Deep and dark (once the lights were turned off). We also went to the performance room. This is dug out of the living rock, the water diverted that had formed the cavern. While we were touring the place, the owner called his friend Matt, who drove 40 minutes to come help us. Within fifteen minutes, he had sorted out that a hose clamp had come loose, draining all my coolant. Hose reattached, coolant replaced, we were able to head home in safety and comfort. Not only is the place fantastic, but the hospitality and helpfulness of the people completely lived up to Southern reputation. I can't wait until they can start having shows again. In the meantime, I will make due with Bluegrass Underground on PBS. Thanks, guys! You made a possible disaster into a great experience and memory for my family. Kirk Dietrick read more

Totally 5 stars for the venue as a cool place to listen to music. How awesome to be 333 feet underground and listen to an amazing band like The Hillbenders. I am so glad we did this! Some things to know for those coming: Come early. You will park closer. There are farther away parking lots (down the hill) if you come later. Come early. You can line up and get better seats. Get a wrist band inside the store. Walk around to the back by the bathrooms and there is a line forming down the path. If you do stand in line, be aware that weather happens. You may wish to be prepared for that. Even if it is not raining when you enter, it may be when you leave. If it is hot in the summer, that line is even warmer (not much of a breeze). I wished I had one of this misting fans with me. If you dislike standing for an hour... bring a little pillow to set on the ground and have a seat. There was some discussion about people coming early and doing the cave tour and *maybe* being able to be in a better place... but it seemed to me that many people ended up towards the back of the line. There is a no bringing in food or drink policy (it was apparently changed some time ago). But when we went nobody was searched so really (I hope they don't read this!)... you could smuggle in something. :) We packed a picnic lunch and there are some nice places to eat at near the cave store. They have a few picnic tables. Another advantage of getting there early and parking close. The food and drinks in the cave, are very limited. If you like burgers and hotdogs, chips and cookies you are all set. Me... not much I would eat. They had cans of soda, hot chocolate, coffee and tea. No alcohol of any kind. Mind your head when walking in the cave, there are many low ceilings. Have a great time! I sure did. read more

We flew out from California to catch the Flaming Lips' New Year's Eve show. I was a little concerned because I know this place was new and somewhat isolated. Would they be able to handle a large crowd ready to party? I was amazed at how well everything was organized. Parking was a snap both coming and leaving (a big concern we had going in). You can walk or take a shuttle bus from the parking lot. There was zero wait at will-call to pick up tickets and everything was very smooth. This is definitely one of the more unique places to see a show. We did the cave tour beforehand, got there in time for the 4:30 tour. They cut our tour a little short according to the guide so they could get the next group in before the show. After the tour they took us back outside and we stood in line for about an hour to be let back in. As other reviewers have stated, the concession stand serves only chili, hot dogs and BBQ with chips and candy and sodas. Next time I'll either pack us a picnic to eat or eat before heading to the venue. It's quite a way from town so there's not the option of going for dinner after the tour and before the show. If they would upgrade the food options just a bit to have something healthy or vegetarian, it would be five stars. Their website said they had nachos but they didn't the night we visited. read more

Attended Bluegrass Underground for the first time this past Saturday May 22nd. Was a very beautiful drive up from Atlanta, well once we got past Chattanooga. We arrived at about 10AM and the first cave tour was at 11 so we signed up for that. The ticket situation for the concert could have been handled a bit better. We purchased our tickets online beforehand but couldn't pick them up until 11, when the cave tour was starting. So that added a bit of stress. The cave tour ended in the Volcano Room, where the concert was held, thankfully it ended right at noon so we were able to grab seats before the people only attending the concert started to arrive just after noon. The room was quite impressive, 333 feet below ground, about 90 feet from floor to ceiling with a giant chandelier. The concessions were all reasonably priced, cash only (we had planned ahead on that but for those who had no cash they were sadly SOL.) The only complaint I really had was in the acts themselves (the only real traditional bluegrass act was Ricky Skaggs) and some shortened set lengths due to the PBS taping. We will definitely return with the added knowledge that we could have brought our own food and beverages (not a giant cooler or anything). We will try and make a weekend out of it next time and stay in Nashville or Chattanooga for the night. read more

I absolutely love The Caverns!! Just getting there is the beginning of an exciting evening! From the minute you walk down the path toward the cave you know it's going to be an experience like none other. It's spacious, and comfortable. (Wear comfy shoes, you are walking through gravel and standing on concrete) The acoustics are great no matter where you are, although I believe the best sound is closer in. The venue is beautiful and Need to Breathe was great, but unfortunately our experience was subpar. All ticket prices were the same and the information listed was that pods were assigned based on time purchased. We had made the pre-sale purchase and checked out within 5 minutes from when tickets went on sale. There were only 3 pods farther than ours in the back of section 4. Not good! We preordered 3 sandwiches. Had an emailed they had been delivered to our pod. Only 2 were there. Then we were told that they had run out! How can that happen with a preorder? They brought me the only sandwich they had left, not what I had preordered. Lastly, the bathrooms clogged and were closed. This became a public health and environmental hazard. Hopefully they will bring in lots of porta-potties for future concerts, correct ticket sale procedures and become accurate on per-sale purchase. Until they do, I cannot recommend attending a concert here. read more

We loved the experience at the caverns with Victor Wooten and Sinbad. Problem was I went to hear bass guitar and it was too boomy to hear what he was playing. I know sound panels would take away from the beauty of the cave but something needs to be done. I will not buy tickets to another heavily amplified show. read more

They said they would send me a refund over confusion from their tickets and they never did. I bought the cave tour add on to a show and the receipt email I got was worded in a way that made it sound like I would be able to see the concert. I didn't know for sure though so I tried reaching the company. Two weeks before the show I left two voicemails and sent two emails. They didn't respond back until four days before the show and they told me the add ons don't count to watch the concert. By this time I had already booked a place to stay and counted on going to the show with my girlfriend I then sent them two voicemails and two more emails asking for a refund they promised to return but they don't respond to anything. Their customer support is terrible and if you make a mistake in your purchases they WILL keep your money and not contact you back read more

Horrible ran with no concern for concert goers. We attended the Flaming Lips New Year Eve show and told by Email to arrive early! Parking lot opens at 6 pm and cave at 7pm. We get to the parking lot and are told we are "crazy early" but since we paid a mere $124 for general admission we had to park at bottom of the hill we had just driven up and take a bus! The revue was sold out the parking lot was empty, I was early but those spots weren't for me. Mind you it had been raining all day so I got to park in a mud pit. Tickets clearly stated door open at 7pm and show starts at 8pm. The rain had let up and it was after 7 so we decided to stroll down the hill,you have to go down a hill to get to the cave, and get in. We were suprised that there was line to get in being how the doors opened 15 minutes before. Silly me I forgot I was a lowly $124 ticket holder and couldn't get in. They made us stand in the rain for 45 minutes until we were let in! Oh, the VIPs were let in and no one bothered to tell us of any time changes. The opening band started at 9 and the headline took the stage at 11. Not one word conveyed to the crowd. Maybe they should only sell only VIP tickets and the rest of you all stay home! Really enjoyed this venue. Got to see one of my favorite artists ever here, and the entire band mingled with the crowd after their set, which was really nice. Very intimate setting, obviously really a unique, unforgettable experience. The only reason for four stars, is the standing room only. I understand wanting to sell as many tickets as possible, but there was definitely room for more seats. The chairs they had were spaced apart so far, if they were a little closer together, there should be a lot more room to allow all of your patrons to sit. Standing on that hard ground was really uncomfortable and the amount of people surrounding you isn't great if you're a little claustrophobic. All in all, we had a killer time. read more

Update- After the Bluegrass Underground Cancelled the 3 night show in March,due to the coronavirus, which they call it being "rescheduled", to Nov. 2020. Then they considered themselves done, and were like, too bad, no refunds! Our show was cancelled by them, not by us, so the 3000 people coming that were coming that weekend were either supposed to eat the money they'd spent, make arrangements to come in November, or they tried to pawn everyone off on a company called Lyte, who "might" buy your tickets, at a loss, and here's the kicker, then Lyte won't even give you the money for your tickets till after the concert in November is over! I bought my tickets last December, they cancelled the show in March, but I'm supposed to wait and get a refund next November, IF that concert goes thru, and at a loss. Plus, the company Lyte isn't buying most tickets people have anyway. So basically they tried to tell me, eat the nearly $600 you spent on tickets! So to everyone out there who got ripped off, contact the Tennesse BBB, and your credit card company, because you did not receive what you paid for. Some places are just unethical! read more

Thought the venue did an excellent job with covid protocols. The staff was friendly, helpful and enthusiastic and that makes a difference when you're having to go through these safely measures. Sincerely disappointed in the length the band played. Wasn't able to get into our pod until 7:15 and the band ended their set at 8:30. Traveling 1.5 hours to attend a concert that only lasted 1.5 hours was more than aggravating. Hopefully the venue can work with artists and groups to ensure a longer concert experience for the ticket cost and the travel time . I'm sure I'm not the only one disappointed. (4.24.21) read more

We went to see Moon Taxi play at the outdoor stage, and a storm was coming in. Instead of cancelling like they should have for tornado warnings they carried on. Since we went $380 on tickets we went! The rain was coming in quickly and the band started early while everyone was still trying to get through security and played 5 songs by the time we got to our Covid bubble. Thirty minutes later the show was postponed due to a tornado close by and we rushed to our cars to wait out the storm. On the website it says the Caverns will adhere to the CDC's guidelines pertaining to the mask mandate and social gatherings indoors. The CDC said no gatherings indoors - but instead of cancelling and potentially refunding guests they continued the concert in the cave going against the indoor advisory. Very poorly handled, I was looking forward to this concert for months I would have even taken credit to try again.... In the future the outdoor space is not worth it, you also have to go out past security to use the ONE functioning bathroom they had available. read more

It was really incredible, especially being as that I've never been in a cave before. Always wanted to see Bluegrass Underground and sprang for the full package with lodging for two costing $1422.20. Leading up to the original date, it was like radio silence from The Caverns. All the hype about a personal touch and someone calling to keep you posted never happened despite me sending emails and calling for support. Then Covid got in the way. In support of the show, the venue, and the musicians I held my tickets for the November reschedule. Now the reschedule is cancelled until who knows when and the performers could be who knows who. The Caverns offered a "Full Face Value" refund via Lyte. What a joke. The Full Face Value is $150 less than originally paid, takes over two months to process, and then only processes via PayPal. This whole thing is a rip off and a black eye for PBS. It is all about The Caverns and the customer comes last. Given their track record I don't think I would feel comfortable with their attention to service in a post-Covid environment. Obviously this is a $150 lesson for all concerned -- I am out the money (which I can absorb, but other may not) and The Caverns have lost a customer for life. Not a place you want to go any time soon ... if ever! read more

This place is a hidden treasure. I wish they had some decent places to stay in McMinnville as this little town has a lot of potential. The caverns were awesome and I saw the civil wars and it was great. The staff were friendly and food prices were cheaper than what we had anticipated. The music was incredible and the venue is awesome. We did the bucket list package for our anniversary and the cavern, tour and music are worth at least five stars. The accommodations for the two nights included in this package are at Fall Creek Falls State Park which is an about an hour drive each way from the cavern in which the show is held. The accommodations are in a motel (not a cabin). Read reviews of FCF before you go. At the show, the bucket list package is well worth it. read more

They have DEFINITELY changed it from some of the pictures. If you went to the old bluegrass underground, that one was way better. The only apparent reason they changed to the caverns is to make more money. The staff is very annoying if you step on rocks and will yell at you even if there is not a sign, but all in all it was pretty good. read more

This was our first visit to the caverns, traveling from Pittsburgh. The good - the process was very well organized from parking to picking up tickets at will call and getting into the cave. The food was good and reasonably priced. The bad - the band we saw, the Mavericks, were very much a stage show rather than just a band playing music. It was very loud which detracted from the music for me. But the worst thing was that the keyboardist invited everyone down to the front. We were not inclined to stand for the entire concert, so all we saw from then on was the backends of people. I felt very sorry for the people who had paid for VIP tickets and weren't able to stand. Would I go again? Probably. But I'd make sure it was a less intense show. read more

Absolutely beautiful venue space. I attended a Manchester Orchestra concert here and it was probably one of the best concerts I have ever been to. There was plenty of seating in folding chairs and picnic tables as well. Concessions offered a good variety of items and they do take cards now! Of course the acoustics are amazing here and I loved the overall experience of the cave itself. Our tickets were will- call and the line for the show wristbands wasn't too much of a hassle. This venue/ attraction is definitely worth the drive from over an hour away and if you're lucky to catch a concert here, I guarantee it will be unlike any you've attended before. I could not have asked for a better first experience at the Caverns! Lettuce and Butcher Brown put on an amazing show that kept everyone boogying all evening long! The lower cave temps make a crowded concert a comfortable place to be. All amenities you could need are available--restroom, bar, food, etc. This is hands down the most unique venue that I've been to and I can't wait to return for future shows! read more

Very difficult to find answers to basic questions before going. I discovered when I attended the temperature inside was not very cold. It was in early September and weather was in the 90's outside. I had found a couple online reports that the cave stays in the 50's year round so struggled how to dress. Upon entering the cave it was obvious most were wearing shorts and tee's and were fine. Also, the statement about "limited cocktails" is misleading. There are canned beverage alternatives to straight beer but no true liquor. After experiencing a night of performance at "The Caverns" I am not understanding the very, very high ticket prices. It was more an underground dance club with good bands, not a concert performance. Also don't expect anything much where food is concerned. Do expect to walk a long way from where you park, do expect to wait in long lines for drinks, food and bathroom facilities. As I have seen in many posts, the staff and security personnel are very courteous. read more
